I've started to dedicate this RUclips channel above all to have fun, but also as a way to document my entrepreneurial journey for the next few years as I try to grow my companies. Hopefully, people can learn from my example, successes, and failures.

My first AK was a Zastava, so was my second AK. Even though the furniture interchangeability is a thing, they’re very well made rifles that aren’t any more expensive than a WASR. Zastava also has proven that they listen to their customers on multiple occasions. 10/10 would recommend as your first AK

Glad to see yoh promoting the use of headspace gauges. It is definately important and too many people claim it as being not necessary, especially in the AR world. Headspace measures from the bolt face to the datum line (about halfway down the shoulder of the casing where the casing bottoms out on the chamber). Always good to have a go, No-go, and field gauge.

My first true experience in building an AK (Hungarian AMD 65) happened 4 years ago. Had built plenty AR's but putting together a QUALITY AK required lots of PROPER work and TOOLS! I have a friend who is a very experienced AK builder who schooled my son and I on how to do it correctly with QUALITY parts, and yes that included the choice or rivets and proper drilling procedures with jigs as well as head spacing and proper fitament of parts. After the building was complete, we then accurized the barrel. This AK is a tack driver! This by far has been the build I am most proud of. Thanks for a good video on some Need-to-know things of great importance!

Looks like I lucked out as mine has solid mag lock up, all rivets are flush n straight. The trussel? Appears to be forged. Barrel is straight, sights are good. The bullet has 1/4" spacing from casing when inserted into the business end of the barrel. I really appreciate you making this video. It has educated me on future purchases. Ciao

My first and maybe last AK is the KUSA KR-103 SFS. Love it. Very high quality, chrome-lined CHF barrel, casted trunnion, all parts look like correctly and well made. The only thing AK snobs like to put down is the milled billeted BCG. That’s no problem for me. There is a video where someone fired over 5,000 rds out of his KR and no problem. The BCG has wear, but nothing serious or out of the norm for regular firing, especially is some of the rounds were corrosive. The fact of the matter is, the QUALITY of the metal in this case matters so much more. I can guarantee you if the billeted BCG uses high quality steel vs a Casted BCG that uses low quality steel, then the casted one will break quicker on you.
Edit: two or three years down the line, once I get all the guns I need now, I may plunk down money for an Arsenal 5.54 AK-74.

I ended up getting a Yugo not knowing that it wasn't able to accept most parts until about a week later. I only swapped the stock for the Magpul Zhukov folder and the muzzlebrake for a cheap AK-74 styled one, did wonders for muzzle-climb. Personally kind of like the weird plastic pistol grip on it, as for the handguard I'm more just disappointed Magpul didnt follow through on making a Yugo compatible version of their existing AK handguard like they apparently had said they would. The handguard itself isn't awful, not good either just... Ok-ish. I'm currently waiting for Texas Weapons Systems to make more of their Gen3 Yugo railed handguards, I just want a little front grippy boi to hold onto like most of my rifles.
In the end I'm overall happy with it and expect it to last a long time.

Great information, people think the AK platform is just indestructible and will work no matter what, and really AK's are pretty forgiving for the most part, but there have been millions of them made, hundreds of thousands made from people who had no business building a firearm in the least bit, not knowing the importance of headspacing ext.... this is a great video explaining these things, good job Brandon.

Century BFT 47 ! Don’t care what you say but century got there act together with this one ! Putting a lot of rounds through mine and no problems so far . Bulged trunion , chrome barrel , threaded for brakes parts hardened to jack hammer standards . They finally listened and solved many problems! And at least they have life time warranty that your soviets don’t! Might as well buy America 700 dollars!

Things i look for in addition to the rivets, canted components, cast parts rifling condition, and headspace.
1 peening on the bolt lugs, bolt carrier (back and the guide lug channel), and on the trunnion.
2 condition of the magwell, also how a standard mag fits including the front trunnion where the front of the mag sits.
3 rusty parts espcially where parts meet and wear to chrome lined surfaces such as the front face of the piston.
4 straight barrels. Ive seen a few barrels where the front trunnion was mialigned and tweaked downwards a few degrees. These rifles still shot fine, but front end furniture fit funny. Im not scared to say i first saw this on a century build with some quite shoddy rivets on the front trunnion as well.
5 smoothness of the action. As well as tight bolt carrier to rail interface. It is normal for the bolt carrier to ride over the hammer a bit when racking without the trigger depressed. Also that the bolt carrier can lift out the back without too much effort but also that the cutouts arent too large either. I saw a beautiful gun on an nds reciever that you couldnt get the bolt carrier out without prying on it.
5 bent center support. This can happen if you drop the hammer on it repeatedly. A mistake i myself have made a number of times. Some are beat up like crazy tho.
6Wear to the ejector. Although ive rarely seen them damaged.
7 overall condition of the surplus parts. Pitting of these parts that have been refinished can tell you if the gun the kit was made from was ridden hard and put away wet. One of the things i like about polish and hungarian guns is the beauty of their machine work. Pitting can ruin that. Other guns like maadis and chicoms can be considerably rougher. Not that it makes them worse guns in operation, just less pretty imo.
8 Loose or super tight safety selector movement (can be corrected fairly easily tho usually
9 how the receiver fits into the front and rear "trunnions" sometimes they dont curl into them properly. Its mostly cosmetic. But it dont look right when its done poorly.

Wassenaar Arrangement Semi-automatic Rifles (commonly referred to as WASR-series rifles) are a line of rifles sold in the United States by Century International Arms. The rifles are manufactured in Romania by the Cugir Arms Factory and are a modernized variant of the AK-47 assault rifle. Century imports them and modifies them in order to comply with national legislation before sale to the general public via licensed traders.[1] The WASR series takes its name from the 1996 Wassenaar Arrangement, a multilateral export control regime to monitor and limit the proliferation of certain conventional weapons and dual-use technologies. So the Rifles are modified in US,from Romania they are shiped at a good standard. But money counts
so they need to cut some things to make them cheap
