they should have shown him the actual weapon customization menu, i'd be interested on his take on the different options etc that are possible. it seems like they just showed him pre-recorded clips of certain weapons.
If you do do another episode on MGSV, I'd suggest having him cover Zorn-KP Grom-11 Hail-MGR-4 Karbarga-83 CGM-25 Bullhorn SG Serval AMR-7 Renov-ICKX TP BIS (This one is rather hard to get and can only be used on FOB missions)
And also the water pistol on missions, because short-circuiting enemy's comm stations and splashing enemies' faces before they can raise the alarm may add some context to the weapon existence
I'd love to see another episode on Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. With arguably the largest collection of guns in *any* game (aside from procedurally generated ones), there is loads of interesting stuff to look at!
I mean it's not so far from reality he already did a review on splatoon and used a water gun to compare the guns from the game to something more "realistic"
What's interesting about the tranquiliser gun is if you shoot anywhere except the head, it does actually have a delayed effect, you can even use this to your advantage by hitting multiple target in succession and then waiting for them all to fall asleep.
Woah, he actually said "sawn-off" instead of "sawed-off!" Not only does he mnow guns, he knows grammar too. What a badass. Almost nobody gets that one right. It's such a common misspelling/grammatical error that countless games list the weapon as a "sawed-off" shotgun, but the past participle of 'to saw' is, indeed, "sawn."
What's funny about the water pistol is that if you sneak up on guards with it, you can still use it to hold them up and interrogate them for information.
6:40 I believe this was based on washer silencer, and he was talking about baffle suppressor. I have no idea if the washer version was ever used on anything but a small pistol, I guess if we ever get his answear, then we will know.
The 'whipes' on firearms like the wellrod certainly loose their effectiveness. I haven't seen anything about wet suppression in decades but remember reading how they can be more effective with water in the tube. Anyone know?
We need more MGS guns! Jonathan is really entertaining and a good explainer. I'd like to see him to react to guns from MGS1, such as MK23 SOCOM, Stinger, the fictional Nikita missile, Vulcan minigun, etc., or guns from MGS3, like MK23 "Hush Puppy", modified M1911 (and Snake explaining it), Single Action Army (with Ocelot), EZ Gun, and of course, The Patriot!
I always like to mention the Trigun connection to the Tornado revolver in MGSV. The twin revolvers in that show have the same long barrel at the bottom of the cylinder with a large metal section on top; in Trigun that section houses a secret secondary weapon with some kind of fantasy powers connected to that whole world's story. Trigun is especially relevant because of the numerous connections between Vash the Stampede, Trigun's protagonist, and Venom Snake, MGSV's protagonist.
The early Soviet suppressors had rubber baffles that allowed for only a couple dozen rounds to be fired properly suppressed. As you fired the baffled degraded and the shots became louder.
@@owenhughes2653 the welrod for sure is made that way, it would degrade after an op or 2 and then you would need a new one if you needed the integral silencer to actually silence the gun
You should get Jonathan to react to the guns in MGS3: Snake Eater, especially some of the cutscenes depicting guns and the gun-related codec calls from SIGINT.
One of the fantastic bits of detail in this game is that a lot of the weapons are custom made by the Diamond Dogs Mercenary group. They come from all walks of life and from all over the world, so it would make sense that the weapons that they develop have influences from different weapons from different countries all mashed into one.
Funny thing is that the marines just recently tested AI security systems and the only thing that got past it was a dude sneaking around in a cardboard box
1:25 - maybe a little inspiration by the Ruger 22lr pistol? 2:48 - similar to AEK 971 handguard 4:30 - inspired by the Mateba and/or the Chiappa Rhino revolvers
It’s genuinely quite shocking how many random details they put into the water pistol despite it being a joke weapon. You can actually even use it against bosses, which gives you a bit of unique dialogue in case of the man of fire. Funnily enough if you stay at it for 20 minutes or so you can actually finish him with it, in spite of what Miller tells you. It also works on the Skulls!
I kinda wish they showed him the triple barrel launcher after the double barrel one. Also, the water gun has a lot of niche uses beyond being a joke pistol.
3:00 I was about to say that buttstock looks a lot like what we have here in Hungary, then you immediately went on to mention my country. Props to you for knowing about that!
I love these so much, Jonathan very obviously loves talking about guns and is excited to share his knowledge and in turn that makes me excited to learn from him.
I was hoping they'd show him footage of the oversight in the initial release that let you equip any modification to any weapon. The grenades with silencers glued on were hilarious.
Oddly enough, the water pistol is very useful. Spray some electronics, radios enough and they don't work. Not my personal choice. But I did use that way.
I figured the WU Pistol was supposed to be a play on the Ruger Mk2, specifically the AWC Amphibian S, which was an integrally suppressed Ruger Mk 2 used by the special forces in the 80s
Really enjoyed this. I love the weapon design in MGSV. It's clear to me that the folks at Konami who did this had a real affection for Cold War weapon design. Couple of points worth noting: Some of these optics are meant to be an old school aimpoint, but with a magnifier. The game lets you mount the equivalent of an ACOG inline with a reflex, which I thought was nonsense until I read US SOF did that at some point in the 2000s. Some of these weapons come in different calibers when you get into the "tech tree" so if the caliber seems wrong, maybe there's a variant there. I thiiiink the SMGII had a similar buttstock ot the Macht-37.
I'd love too see Jonathan react to the guns of Deep Rock Galactic, this game has from regular double barrels and revolvers to giant lasers and electromagnetic hand cannons, as well as some very interesting designs I'd love to see Jonathan analyze
Legit on the same day I get back into MGSV after a few years and get curious about the in-game guns, this gets uploaded. Not bad, Ferguson. You're pretty good.

Surprised this "expert" had no idea this was infact a real if somewhat rare, exotic firearm

I would love it if he listened to Snakes full description of his colt 1911 from MGS3 at tells us what each thing would mean for the gun and if it is true to real world. "Its feeding ramp is polished to a mirrored sheen"
So the 5.56 machine gun is an upgrade option to a 7.62 machine gun (which still looks like a mag same as the 5.56), which once you upgrade it more gets a shorter barrel, minimi style heat sheild, and picatinny on the receiver. The 7.62 can also be upgrades into an m240 era mag57 with the modern heatsheild
Wasn't that Big boss that said that in MGS3 ? Ocelot's revolvers had engravings and Big Boss called him out for them. I guess Ocelot might have repeated that line in MGS V but I think I missed it.

I was fairly sure the Tornado-6 was named after Ocelot's Mocap actor, "Tornado" Yoshida.
@@JeffHikari This is the correct answer. The revolver itself is based off the real life Mateba 2006M.
YES!
they should have shown him the actual weapon customization menu, i'd be interested on his take on the different options etc that are possible. it seems like they just showed him pre-recorded clips of certain weapons.
Show him some of the abominations people made when the customization was glitched, like beltfed, suppressed rocket launchers.
I really want to see Jonathan break down the guns from The Order 1886
I know folk didnt like it that much and the Game was a bit shorts but i reaaaaly like the designs and aesthetic of that Game
@@vivamexico254 Yeah, their Steampunk weapons just look so good even until now
This, a bad game with the best asetetics
I just downloaded that today after beating Collisto protocol. I'm excited to play it for the 1st time
@@douggaudiosi14 hope you enjoy it man. Genuinely, not a very popular game, itd be cool to have at least one person like it
If you do do another episode on MGSV, I'd suggest having him cover
Zorn-KP
Grom-11
Hail-MGR-4
Karbarga-83
CGM-25
Bullhorn SG
Serval AMR-7
Renov-ICKX TP BIS (This one is rather hard to get and can only be used on FOB missions)
Now wait till he listens to the codec to MGS 3's codec about the Colt M1911 Custom.
For April fools, you should have Jonathan look that the nerf guns in Nerf Legends. Love to see how cursed he finds them.
I mean it's not so far from reality he already did a review on splatoon and used a water gun to compare the guns from the game to something more "realistic"
Surprisingly he is knowledgeable on nerf guns aswell. He's mentioned them before lol
What's interesting about the tranquiliser gun is if you shoot anywhere except the head, it does actually have a delayed effect, you can even use this to your advantage by hitting multiple target in succession and then waiting for them all to fall asleep.
I think even Jonny here will agree with this famous quote from this game franchise:
"Engravings, give you no tactical advantage whatsoever."
I wonder how John would react to hearing the weapon descriptions in MGS3, especially snakes appreciation of the 1911 lol
The tornado revolver I'd wager is based on the Mateba revolver, and the macht 37 gives more of a Walther MP(L) vibe with that charging handle
“I’m not a cardboard box specialist I’m a firearms specialist.”
WELL GET ME A CARDBOARD BOX SPECIALIST
What's funny about the water pistol is that if you sneak up on guards with it, you can still use it to hold them up and interrogate them for information.
6:40 I believe this was based on washer silencer, and he was talking about baffle suppressor. I have no idea if the washer version was ever used on anything but a small pistol, I guess if we ever get his answear, then we will know.
The 'whipes' on firearms like the wellrod certainly loose their effectiveness.
I haven't seen anything about wet suppression in decades but remember reading how they can be more effective with water in the tube. Anyone know?
I'd love to see him tackle MGS3 and judge Sigint's explanations of the firearms too.
Missed opportunity to use one of Ocelot's most famous quotes from this game
You know the one
"Engravings give no tactical advantage whatsoever"
i always thought that the AM MRS-4 (the initial rifle in the game) was some sort of mixture between the K2 Korean Rifle and the M4
I personally think it resembles the Japanese Howa rifle. Considering it's a Japanese company.
I always though it was like a AK5.
@@AVWUVU AK5 is an FNC, innit?
Its pretty obviously the FNC. Compare them side by side.
Another!
YES! I wanted to see you cover weapons from Metal Gear for a long time. Kept me waiting, huh?
Suppressors won’t wear out, but your gun will get louder when in it flies across the range.
The early Soviet suppressors had rubber baffles that allowed for only a couple dozen rounds to be fired properly suppressed. As you fired the baffled degraded and the shots became louder.
@@mikhailryzhov9419 exactly, and same with British ww2 suppressed pistol. Can't believe he forgot about those
I believe this is how WW2 supressors worked. Rubber wipes or something? Defo a nod
@@owenhughes2653 the welrod for sure is made that way, it would degrade after an op or 2 and then you would need a new one if you needed the integral silencer to actually silence the gun
Its nice that he recognizes that the guns gotta be 'legally distinct'
Metal gear as a series could keep Johnathan busy for a year.
Mad props to whoever recorded this footage for having Quiet in the background of every shot.
MGS4 is a must for a future video, so much variety there.
"An oddly thoughtful and realistic edge to an absolutely absurd idea" That it. That's all of Metal Gear Solid.
You should get Jonathan to react to the guns in MGS3: Snake Eater, especially some of the cutscenes depicting guns and the gun-related codec calls from SIGINT.
There is a stand alone form of the GP-25, it's the RGM-30 Kasket, basically a rod with a stock and sights that the GP-25 attachs to
With the MRS-4 I'd say it's a mash of the AR-18 and the FNC with just a hint of G3 on the front end
The Jonathan Reacts we were all waiting for.
Pretty good.
I would love to see another episode on Insurgency Sandstorm's newer weapons, or multiple episodes on Warframe's guns and melee weapons.
When John mentions a gun can we please get an image of it.
Oh yeah, more Johnathan Ferguson!
1:25 - maybe a little inspiration by the Ruger 22lr pistol?
2:48 - similar to AEK 971 handguard
4:30 - inspired by the Mateba and/or the Chiappa Rhino revolvers
It's gotta be weird being in charge of guns in a country with no gun rights

Cardboard Specialist reacts to Meatl Gear Solid
I love these so much, Jonathan very obviously loves talking about guns and is excited to share his knowledge and in turn that makes me excited to learn from him.
At last, thank you GameSpot for making this video a reality. Good to know that Jonathan is having fun too!
I'm surprised he didn't recognize that the tornado was clearly based on the Mateba 2006m.
Can't wait to see Jonathan take on the guns of Deep Rock Galactic.
Also would like to see him take on Valkyria Chronicles 4.
I was hoping they'd show him footage of the oversight in the initial release that let you equip any modification to any weapon. The grenades with silencers glued on were hilarious.
Shame they got rid of the most ridiculous adjustments - I'd have loved to have seen Mr. Ferguson's reaction to the hand grenade with the suppressor.
Ocelot's tornado 6's ability is a reference to the Ocelot boss fight from mgs1
Oddly enough, the water pistol is very useful. Spray some electronics, radios enough and they don't work.
Not my personal choice. But I did use that way.
Apparently Johnny has not heard of suppressors that use washers which do stop working after around 10 rounds.
Whenever I see something like the Tornado-6 or the Mateba I always think of Vash's and Knives' revolvers from Trigun.
One of us! One of us!
I thiiiink the SMGII had a similar buttstock ot the Macht-37.
finally! was looking forward to this episode :D
I'd love too see Jonathan react to the guns of Deep Rock Galactic, this game has from regular double barrels and revolvers to giant lasers and electromagnetic hand cannons, as well as some very interesting designs I'd love to see Jonathan analyze
The Ghost Recon series needs a video! Particularly Future Soldier or Wildlands
I've commented on so many of these videos for a Wildlands or breakpoint reaction,Needs to happen.
Legit on the same day I get back into MGSV after a few years and get curious about the in-game guns, this gets uploaded. Not bad, Ferguson. You're pretty good.
As somebody who has been hit with "less-than-lethal" rounds, I can promise they don't bother to bounce them
If it's recent, then yeah. That instruction is for older less than lethal rounds and guns.
@3:52 the "Tornado 6" is a real life revolver, though it is called the Mateba 2006M; Italian made from the late 70s/early 80s . Also popularly seen in Ghost in The Shell as Togusa's signature firearm. Pretty popular pistol in Japanese culture. Surprised this "expert" had no idea this was infact a real if somewhat rare, exotic firearm
Please do the Killzone series :D There are Bullpups, Jonathan! Bullpups!
the Stalker series of game has so many AK variants in it, i would honestly love a reaction video to those games, especially because he can talk about the various differences between AK74s, 47s, AEKs, AKMs, etc.
This is Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Cardboard and Drywall at the Royal Armories Museam in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic cardboard boxes from throughout history
Their most treasured possesion is the actual cardboard box that Mark Antony hid in outside the Theatre of Pompey while Cæsar was inside, getting assasinated!
I know this isn't exactly talking about the guns-- but did anyone else notice the body flying away goin' mach 2 at 9:02 ?
you guys should totally cover bonelab it has alot of really cool guns
I would love it if he listened to Snakes full description of his colt 1911 from MGS3 at tells us what each thing would mean for the gun and if it is true to real world.
"Its feeding ramp is polished to a mirrored sheen"
So the 5.56 machine gun is an upgrade option to a 7.62 machine gun (which still looks like a mag same as the 5.56), which once you upgrade it more gets a shorter barrel, minimi style heat sheild, and picatinny on the receiver. The 7.62 can also be upgrades into an m240 era mag57 with the modern heatsheild
Imagine sitting in front of rocket launchers.
Jonathan should've been watch Ocelot describing Engravings Pistol, gives no tactical advantages what so ever.
Wasn't that Big boss that said that in MGS3 ? Ocelot's revolvers had engravings and Big Boss called him out for them. I guess Ocelot might have repeated that line in MGS V but I think I missed it.
@@Gatorade69 Yea in MGS3 but what I mean is I want Jonathan watch that cutscenes from MGSV
Don't worry Johnathon, I know a firearms expert who is _also_ a cardboard box expert: Nastasha Romanenko.
For those not in the know: in _Metal Gear Solid,_ if you contact Nastasha with any weapon or item in hand, she'll tell you everything you need to know about it, including the cardboard box.
