I graduated from high school in 1992, and in October 1994, I was serving in the military. I miss my 20s, friends, music, love, and everything from the 90s so much. I hope everyone in this video is having a wonderful life.
Its truly sad music is no longer an important part of culture. I was 18 when this video was taken and music defined who we were back then. We listened to it, talked about it, played it, lived it. I have a 15 year old now and he listens to about 30 seconds of a song and has no clue who the artist is. I feel sad for teenagers now who will never get to experience the way we lived in the 80s and 90s. Im sure every generation feels the same about the next but still.
Your culture and identity was just how big industry decided was profitable to market at the time. Consumerism was just as rampant. Case in point : you say culture defined who you were, but what you're really talking about is how teenagers consumed a product.
@river9230 Pretty much everything. You could bitch about the economy or stuff like that back then, but the future was basically bright. No social media. Good music. Real experiences. We were mostly latchkey kids, so we didn't have parents getting in our biz, and the ones who did were usually really cool and understood a lot of us didn't have a lot to go home to. All the BS politics was minimal, and the racial stuff was literally dying (they brought it back from the dead just to call us all racists). 2001 changed everything.
Like everyone says, people were more connected before social media, also everyone wasn’t obsessed with politics and social justice. Our concerns were our friends and our own little bubble. There was much less narcissism overall and movies were better without moral lessons coming before a good story. The main observation I usually make that I don’t usually hear people mention is that things were more ‘real’ back then. Because of social media, everyone seems like they are playing a character now. Girls wear Nirvana and Thrasher shirts but don’t know what neither are, soccer moms have pink hair, toddlers have mohawks. All these things really meant something back then and represented who you were. Now people just want to adopt the style without putting in the effort of the interest it’s attached to. It’s done for fashion, not passion. Those things were edgy back then and made a statement, but it’s hollow and empty now.
@river9230 It started the ball rolling. The Patriot Act and other things that have directly led to our current surveillance state. 2008 (Occupy) brought in all the political and racial activism that's got everyone hating each other today. Then the lockdowns... I don't care about one's politics, but I really wish more folks understood how much has already been stolen and plundered from their present and future by psychos that don't give AF about a single one of us...
I was 16 when this was filmed and on the other side of the planet in Australia. Honestly looks and feels exactly like it was for me as a kid. Dressed the same behaved the same loved the same music. Like looking back in time. Great work my man. Keep it up.
My husband is from Tarneit/Melbourne. We both graduated in 1995, albeit in different hemispheres...it's amazing how similar our high school experiences were right down to the music.
Hey man I like your channel! Ive watched a bunch of your videos, reminds me of me and my older brother if we would have happened to record our lives growing up like you have haha. Video stores, movies, concerts, road trips to buy new releases etc good stuff!! I also live in Pa (central pa)so that makes the scenery look regionally familliar lol. This video reminds me of my older brothers friends ha. I played in original bands between 99'-10' (still play drums)and we definitely got the plug pulled on us several times like your friends in this video haha. These are a treasure trove, thanks for uploading these videos man!
Man I used to have that same free pennywise shirt w the big logo on the back waaay back in the 90s. Now I’m thinking about all the Bad Religion shirts I used to own over the decades.. major nostalgia
I love the way kids dressed like back then , like actual kids their age ! I know some kids today try to imitate the 90s fashion youth style , and some look pretty accurate. Clothes were better quality back then even cheap brands ! The group of girls at the 7:59 mark remind me so much of this documentary “ dirty girls” 1996/97 . It’s a good documentary if anyone wants to check it out it’s here on RUclips
I grew up in the 90s and things were 100% better back then. Social media has ruined society and I mean that lol. Real life interactions are barely a thing anymore.
This is wild to see. We sounded like comeplete and utter shit, but we were 15 / 16 years old. I have to ask if the full, unedited show footage is available? I would love to see the clip of my mom yelling at the person from Shippley that pulled the plug. 🙂
haha yeah, I have the whole thing on tape but cut it down for the upload on here. Your mom yelling at the Shipley guy was in my first cut before I cut it down more. At one point we are talking about the "good DJ" being at that Friday's Devon dance, what made him the good DJ? Was it the guy who would play our CD's that we brought from home?
Im making a Goth Alt Punk type of documentary would you mind if I use some of the footage on your channel? This is perfect for what we are trying to showcase from that time period, It’s a non profit film just for RUclips
And yet I have traces of his hair in my shoulder strap backpack that I have on. Bought them from the owner of the hair who was mentioned in a Rolling Stone article about it. The pieces were cut off of Kurt in the morgue by Courtney herself, made into a doll for Frances, and the traces were sold via WeekndJustin.

I agree with all this. The music you were into defined who you were back then.
I was 16 90s fkn rocked
I promise, music is still very much a part of young people's culture... just not ur kid it seems

@@sinane.y While true, music did seem to be more art than product back then compared to now.
Can't think of anything more punk rock than playing one show, getting your plugs pulled, and never playing again. Bravo
Mon-Mon! Very true! lol.
and finishing it off with an untimely passing. srsly punk AF ...p.s. sorry for your loss, so sad :(
Almost 30 years ago. Time really flies as you get older, they don't tell you that until it passes by in a blink of an eye.
They'll never know how good we had it...
exactly. i didn't even realize how good we had it at the time.

Not a single fat kid in sight, now compare that to this poor, confused, over-medicated generation.
not allowed to call them fat thats racist
