    I mean you do kinda have to give hendrick some slack, it was an R&D car, R&D cars arent as fast as primaries because their only part time cars and just were used as either developing up and coming talent, or running for data on how to improve the car. I know back in the mid to late 2000's the big teams ran an extra car on some occasions for their test driver or busch series driver (like here). I think Terry ran the 44 for hendrick for testing purposes after he went part time. But since the 4 car rule is in effect we probably wont get any R&D cars any time soon.

    • @CatGoomba64
      @CatGoomba64 4 года назад +4

      I'm pretty sure the 44 team was the same team as the 84, but Hendrick got permission from Petty Enterprises to use the number that year and a few races in 2006. They also ran an R&D car later in the decade as the 25 for Keselowski and I think in 2015 for Chase Elliot, but I don't think it has any relation with the 84 entry

      Kyle Busch was actually supposed to debut in 2002 with Roush Racing as a teammate to Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth, but NASCAR then instituted the 18-year old rule because Winston was the sponsor of the Cup Series at the time (he had been thrown out of an event at 15 by CART officials because Marlboro was a series sponsor), sending him back to late models (Busch would have debuted at 16); a prior settlement prevented minors from participating in events sponsored by cigarette companies.

    • @RedWingsninetyone
      @RedWingsninetyone 4 года назад +1

      @Elite Soulfly he was let go by Hendrick because of his attitude problems at the time. Him going to JGR was his move. He chose to accept the offer and it wasn't a "reluctant move." The 18 was absolutely garbage before Busch took over and then got 8 wins that season, which is 2x what he got in his entire time at Hendrick.

      @@DerrickRG he didn't wreck that many cars. It had 100% to do with his attitude at the time. I'm pretty sure the beginning of the end was when he got into the wreck with Dale Jr (smoke caused a rear end crash because they couldn't see), and then Kyle Busch left. The crew fixed the car but their driver wasn't there. Dale Jr finished that race in the 5.

Another driver Ford invested in, only to leave because "someone" told him he was ready, and shouldn't wait on Ford's plan. Now Gibbs is signing 14 year olds to stop others from getting them once they have matured, and are ready. The difference is if they don't produce right away, they don't find out why. JGR just tosses them to the side of the road.

      Left Turn Productions [LTP] Kyle was supposed to make his Cup debut at Homestead 2003, in the #60 Haas car with an experimental R&D Hendrick setup and engine. However when they went through inspection, the car was so illegal that NASCAR disqualified the team and threw them out of the racetrack

    I think this is more proof of why the mega teams were such a problem. Roush and Hendricks would have 4 and 5 car teams, but only 1-2 would get any good equipment, the other cars were R&D, with wacky setups and the cast off/lower quality parts of the primary teams. Coupled with generally young inexperienced guys looking to prove themselves, or just being groomed to get to the next step in quality cars OR the R&D car was helmed by a slot filler looking to start and park for a paycheck. I still say there should be no more than 2 cars PER team in Nascar's Big 3.
