I spent over 20 years of my 50 years with type 1 diabetes eating high-starch very-low-fat. I can’t forgive the American Diabetes Association for encouraging the diet that ruined my health. If those people had functioning consciences, they’d take responsibility for ruining millions of people’s lives. But they haven’t and they won’t.

Unfortunately that's the nature of most large institutions. They outsource ethics to the market for growth and expansion. Unfortunately, the fundamental ethical consideration of the market is maximization of shareholder value. This is universally true, even within large charitable organizations, although they might substitute maximization of shareholder value with something like number of clients serviced or organizational growth by some other measurement. I think the solution to this is somehow getting around those organizations to teach this lesson as early as grade school, to not trust large organizations' motives or expertise.

Eggs are my cholesterol pill. Oxidized LDL is probably the only bad LDL so just greatly curtail cooking with and eating highly processed, rancid omega-6 vegetable oils which damage mitochondria and cause white blood cells to become the dreaded foam cells after they engulf the oxidized seed oils.

As a healthy but a little porky individual I took up Keto nearly 3 years ago. I've now fallen into a routine of a substantial breakfast e.g. steak, tomatoes, brussel sprouts, mushrooms as my one meal of the day (unless the girl friend wants to go to dinner or lunch, which is fine in which case two or even three meals for that day) with substantial grazing from the refriderator on butter, cheese and nuts for the rest of the day. Under Keto I eat as much and as often as I like with no need to further restrict my intake beyond staying clear of carbohydrate i.e. sugar (including fructose) and starch. So personally I have found no need to limit cheese, nuts or butter consumption. I eat as much and as often as I want (maybe for someone morbidly obese that would not work). My weight has been stable for the last 30 months (65kg to 66kg, checked daily, which is fine for my height).

Dr. Westman is absolutely amazing. His teachings are extremely important especially for those lured by all sorts of "hype keto" versions out there.
But I must disagree with a few things he said because they have actually no basis in science:
    1. Monk fruit does not contain actual carbohydrates AND the amounts used are literally infinitesimal. Nothing to count.
    2. Sugar alcohols, in general, must be counted (and maybe best avoided completely: maltitol, sorbitol, isomalt etc.). However, erythritol, specifically, has no metabolic impact and there is no need to count it at all and doesn't needd to be avoided.
    3. Sucralose is NOT as safe as these others. Sucralose can damage gut flora and has an insulinogenic effect (more so in combination with other carbs).
We are past the time when we could make general statements about "sweeteners". You have to know about each, individually.
As a corolary: be more careful about what your sweetener is blended with. Look at all ingredients. Many buy "Stevia" or "Monkfruit" that is actually 99% dextrose (glucose) or maltodextrin (same as sugar).

Having been on a keto diet for several years to reverse Type 2 diabetes and lose weight, I recently started using a keto diet app called Carb Manager, and found it is quite helpful to let me see where I am every day, so it has significantly accelerated my weight loss. As a 6' 200lb (formerly 265lb) man, I try to limit my caloric intake to 1,600 per day, and my carbs to below 20 gms. Without this kind of monitoring app, I found it very difficult to be consistent. For me, this makes it much easier to know I'm on track.

It’s a charity. Charitable organizations normally ask people who use their service to donate. That don’t block people if they don’t donate. Geeze, learn the difference between profit and non profit organizations.
