      It was super nice to hear that everyone struggles at the beginning. So often it's people who are already minimalists talking about how much they love getting rid of things, and it's like, that's not me at all! I don't want my stuff, but I REALLY don't want to go through it and toss it either! So it's great to hear that it's normal for everyone at the beginning.

    • @Cationna
      @Cationna 3 года назад +19

      Yeah, that's very true. Usually clutter represents a lot of issues that have accumulated and overwhelmed us. Sometimes it connects to feeling of inadequacy in life, sometimes to the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves that imprison us ("i am a disorganised person", "I am bad at getting rid of stuff", "I am hopeless", "I am a failure in life" etc etc), sometimes to other issues (for me my closet overflowing with clothes I never wear represents the hate I feel towards my body, my lifestyle, my mistakes, the unwillingness to let go of the ideal me, years of guilt towards people I owe a lot to, lack of feeling of ownership over my things and my life...). So facing the clutter means facing those issues, and that's often the real reason why we procrastinate it. And also why dealing with one helps to deal with the other :)

    She is enlightened! As a fellow bee I can relate. Her house is never going to be the same when she has the guidelines, like she said. So many of us tend to think that f.ex. cricket style is the only way to organize. Though it is great, visual bugs can’t enjoy the benefits of it, they need their own guidelines and once having them, a bee becomes a tidy and organized for the rest of her/his life. Thank you Cas for changing my life and have a wonderful newfound journey, Michele. All the best!

    Wow. 😭 And why are we crying?!? I think it's because you gave us all the words of affirmation that it seems we all long to hear but too seldom do. Usually we are told (lies), either by others or in our own heads that we "never do anything right" and we "are such a 'hot mess' in so many ways". Instead you spoke truth to us, Cass....you told her and all the rest of us that "You're amazing" and "incredibly organized", "gifted, talented, and have an artistic eye" and I am really proud of you." I think we could all bear hearing those kinds of words more often. Thank you for being very real and thank you for putting yourself out there for all of us. 💚💙💜

    I envy all these people who have time to follow thru on videos like this or join groups to help then make happy places. I work in healthcare with hospice patients, and while everyone was home in 2020, I was working almost 24/7. I was home for a couple of months, then called back into work 24/7 with 2 nights off. How do I declutter and make a happy place when I'm always tired? Things pile up at home. My husband is retired and does the dishes, laundry and gardens. He keeps the house vacuumed. But my spaces pile up. I began making quilts a few years ago, which made me happy. But now I have sewing supplies in the bedroom as well as my sewing room. If I do get a day off, I'm so tired that I want to sleep or lay around. But I do watch your videos.

    This was perfect! I have a croffice (love that word!) that I can't walk through and I'm trying to figure to how to organize it and get rid of things. (I'm a butterfly) The first couple of days I felt like I was just moving things around and not getting anywhere, but I finally have a clear area of floor in the middle of the room. Thanks for the inspiration ladies!

    The tears of relief, and understanding, that someone gets it, and accepts you as you are. That is love. Giving others hope and a sense of direction to figure out who they are and how they function best is amazing. It takes a lot of courage to reveal one’s example of feeling out-of-control. Getting in control is what it’s all about.💖

    This is such a good session. I felt the same way as Michelle when I first began. I needed to go to town on my office/craft room. I had office paper clutter everywhere. But I also had yarn of all kinds, raw roving wool, silk and other fabrics with all the accessories for knitting, weaving and needle felting, plus I added a new category of Sashiko visible mending supplies, everything was scattered everywhere. Also there was a twin bed in there for when my grandchildren would spend the night (which didn't happen this past year). There was no zoning because there was no space to move. I decided the bed had to go, but I'd have to replace it somehow. I found a couch for my living room that easily made into a bed (not the old fashion heavy sofa bed). It also had storage under the chaise for the bedding to be stored. It immediately freed up space in the room and in a closet. I'm now in the process of reorganizing my whole room. There's an area for my desk and file cabinet which works great. Then I took off the closet doors and almost all of my yarn went in there. I bought a small inexpensive bookshelf for a cubby space so all my knitting and weaving books could go on it. That one decision to remove the bed turned this very small craft and office room into something that actually works for me. When I bought the couch, my daughter took back all of her furniture, a large couch and chair, another smaller chair, an ottoman, a coffee table and side table. This freed up my living room to begin again figuring out the look and feel of how I want my home to be. I'm a Bee with a little Butterfly. Thanks for your clarity about how to 'see' my style of organization. That has been so helpful in this journey.

I shredded 1 huge box filled with 20 years of old pay stubs, bank records, and old bills. I couldn't do this when my husband and I moved 3 years ago and had to downsize. Thank you both for this video. It has encouraged me to have confidence in my situation. I have recently moved house and have gone from having a dedicated craft room to now having to incorporate my craft room into a wardrobe in my bedroom. I have never been confidant with decorating a room and right now my bedroom looks like a seen from 'hoarders' which is stressing me out at how horrible it looks. But I do know that I am in the progress stage where sorting out is where I am now. This will not be forever. This video was so inspiring and has given me hope that I will have a beautiful functional restful joyful creative room one day soon too. PS, I'm a bee too. 🐝 Thank you to you both from my heart. 💗

    That was inspiring. I'd never thought of it, but much of my mess is paper and cardboard boxes. Not all of it, but a whole lot. I'll just set something down on a horizontal surface and that's where it ends up. For years in some cases. Getting that under control would go a long way.

    I feel this so hard! Michele, thank you for your bravery. Cas, thank you for your bravery, insight, and encouragement. I am a bee. Before I ever heard of the clutterbug's I thought I was "supposed to be" a ladybug. Then, I tried being a butterfly. I failed miserably. I made my space so much worse by trying to have it in ways that don't work for me. I'm still a mess in progress. I still often doubt myself (hey I failed for a long time.) I am making progress in a way that I can sustain. That is the key factor for me. I could set up other systems but couldn't keep them up. They didn't work for me. Knowing what works for me helped me set up one area for me. I can maintain it while I work on the other areas. Like everything else, maintaining things is easier than fixing them when broken.
