That is so cool! I've been having some morale boosting wins, now that I choose to make decluttering into my daily friend, like eating and sleeping are essential, so is living space management.
Letting go of the hopeless feeling that the clutter is 'never-ending' and an 'eternal obstacle' to me getting on with what I WANT to be doing, I can make it a fun, quick, easy thing I do every day like exercise, breathing, and other self-care opportunities. In fact, I will have more time and energy to do THOSE things when I bitesize my living space activities.
Imagine: I'm going to take a mental health enhancing 15 minute clutter break! After 15 minutes: AHHHHH SO MUCH BETTER NOW! Back to work! Or creativity! Or whatever!!!

I totally agree on being ruthless with clothing. On The Minimalist’s podcast a caller said that when she has trouble getting rid of clothing, she asks herself, “If I had the opportunity to wear this clothing item, would I reach for something else instead?” I thought it was a good way to determine clothing preferences and sorting out what you like and what you actually wear.

My psychiatrist told me the reason of my accumulation of stuff (CLOSE TO HOARDING) was because of my losses I had in my life. I was holding on to stuff because I could control that. I had made the thought of getting rid of stuff (I didn’t need) as another loss.
I am STILL in the process of decluttering. I have given away about 10 garbage bags (the BIG yard bags) of clothes and shoes. Now, I am working on the useless things I have… like from boyfriends I didn’t love, or little things (like tickets from Universal Studios, T-shirt’s with holes from when I used to live with my dad (daddy didn’t buy this tshirt though), etc etc. It is harder for me than it should be. I have to get in the right mental space and just do it

My reaction to dumping the stuff tells me I have a little problem I wasn't aware of, but the extra space is lovely tbh. I am 51 and think life has manifested into a "stuff" thing, so since 2 bags "exhausted" me, will tackle more later but I feel like this is a start! Thank you for helping a total stranger.

This is honestly the only channel I have ever watched that makes decluttering and its process relatable. Every other channel I have seen has this distance to them, as if the content creator is a somewhat different 'breed' from other people, where they now have accomplished 'their everything' and now it's your turn. I can't seem to connect to that.

How true about stopping the inflow of clutter! I often used to go out & buy things or buy things online I didn't really need, which not only was a waste of money, but also was continuously adding to the clutter! I am now much more careful about casual shopping. Same with thrift stores, there's such a temptation to pick up a couple more items after dropping off some clutter...

Thank you so much for posting. I needed this. I am a former caregiver of my elderly parents who recently passed. Both had debilitating illnesses at the same time which was overwhelming for me but I am very grateful I was able to be there 24 hours everyday to care for them at the same time through the grace of God at their home (which I inherited). To deal with the stress (and grief) as they were in their final days and hours during hospice at home, I started decluttering their things (since I couldn't go easily anywhere during this critical time) but stopped decluttering after they passed. I was too burned out physically, emotionally and mentally to do anything, only the bare minimum of daily responsibilities (sometimes not even that). It was 5 years of intensive caregiving. I'm now ready to start and have but needed strategies to declutter faster. You're video has great tips and will help me a great deal. Especially now that I have 8 rescued dogs that I care for and have plenty of space inside and outside to live comfortably with me. Between work (remote at home) and caring for them, my time can be limited. Thanks for the inspiration and reminder that at least 15 minutes a day... It can be done. I will gladly give up stuff but not my dogs who bring me so much joy and keep me active walking each of them. They deserve a loving home and happy/healthy life with me after being abused, neglected and dumped on the streets (emancipated) without mercy by their previous owners. One of them was able to wag her tail again and trust me after three years of rehabilitation. Thanks again!

I get how good it feels to get rid of things. For me I think it’s wasteful to get rid of things (partially used tubes of things, like sunscreen) that are still useful. I keep them but try to use them up right away. This avoids adding more to trash over time and saves money. I push myself to be a sustainable declutterer.

I get that but she said her kids have eczema and the old stuff they tried, caused issues. As someone who has walked that walk, it was a relief to toss things I hoped would work but caused reaction. They were painful reminders of a worse time before finding a sustainable solution forward.

Love that. Manage your stuff and don't get rid of it. Of course it is easy to get a garbage bag and get going ...our superficial society likes it easy. We think we love ourselves by mistreating our things instead of taking care of them. We throw away our friends when we don't feel like they serve ist anymore....Partners are next. And then we wonder why our children go no contact when it is us who told them to do so by how we live. I have no clue how these hardcore minimalists purge and purge and still have things to purge...they must be constantly bringing things in otherwise there can not be sacks and sacks of garbage going on. It is like patients suffering from bulimia explaining to me how good they feel after they throw up....only to make plans on how to binge again soon...🙈 This reminds of them. We call it the Devil's Circle in German. All the comments of how happy it makes to throw away stuff.....what a weird world. Our grandparents would be disgusted, thinking how hard they worked for what we through away everyday. The arrogance and waiting for applause of how empty everything looks. Two hours later borrowing somthing from the neighbours (Like me 😂) because they are so happy they don't need to take care of it anymore....the irony. In it's extreme form it is actually a very selfish, irresponsible and childish way of living. We already produce so much garbage. Don't make more because it makes you feel good. There are better hobbies 😝 Glad you wrote this, and that there are still ppl like this. Hoarding and extreme constant decluttering are two extremes that seem to have a very unhealthy root...

Back then I was trying to get into minimalism and zero waste. Half way through i gave up because i was struggling mentally badly. Yes, nothing matters more than you and your mental health. Even if your needs don't fall into the box of any lifestyle you follow, it's important to meet the needs all the same.

I’m helping my parents declutter and downsize from their house into a small apartment. They have never decluttered to the level they needed to this time and they had so many excess possessions! It has taken me four solid weeks to help them pack everything up and get rid of as much as I possibly could. The moving truck is coming tomorrow and I know they will need to purge at least another 30-40% of what they have kept in order to fit comfortably into this apartment. Hopefully they will be settled in by Christmas 🤞🏻

My house is approaching horder levels. We have too much space, being partially disabled, working full time and homeschooling our yougest, it became easy to stuff it in an empty room. So today, we unpacked ONE of the rooms. I like the tip to take a picture. I want to see my progress.

Great video! I met a woman who was probably 70 at the time, and she told me how to deal with negativity from people. She said to take a thought and wrap it up on a nice little wrapping paper with a bow and then CHUCK IT IN THE FUCK IT BUCKET! That always stuck with me. In my home I have a large blue fuck it bucket for things I want to get rid of. Some stuff won’t fit in it but most things will fit into my bucket easily.

Thanks for these tips! I have donated 6 trash bags full of stuff to the thrift store with more going out soon! These tips will help with the last of the stuff! Being ruthless has been my mindset this time around! A few years ago I decluttered so much stuff and lived more minimalist but we moved from Kansas back to Georgia and I have gotten into the bad habit of retail therapy to help with depression(Thankfully I decided to go on some medicine which is helping)and so we have way to much stuff now!

Thank you for making this video. Plenty of people who de-clutter advise to throw away stuff you have not worn in 6 months. NO I need coats, warm hats and winter items. I live in Texas and it is warm most of the time, yet we can have cold days in winter so I will not throw away or donate my seasonal clothing that I have not used for 6 months, winter coats are expensive. I am at this time unpacking my seasonal winter sweaters and “warms”. I have an old historical house with no natural closets. One room upstairs has a closet like area with a shelf and downstairs has 2 small closets under the staircase. My heart doctor wants me to loose weight and given me medication so I will not throw away my 1 size smaller clothing that I love. I already have lost weight and gifted an donated my larger clothing that does not fit. At one time I was on cancer hormone killing meds and I could not loose weight. I am off the meds and my weight is so much better. As I unpack stuff I am getting rid of stuff as much as possible.

My present life is full of "the clutter of the unnecessary" 😒 All these beautiful piles have not brought happiness, only added stress. I will now not sell the items but just bless others with all this stuff. My peacefulness is more important than making extra money, that I may end up spending at great second-hand stores. Re-give, refresh and renew my calm. Blessings to you for your awesome encouragement 🙏 ❤️ 🙌

Thanks for remotivating me. I’m so used to decluttering being a part of my life now that I really question things before I buy them now because I don’t want to have to declutter them again soon. Things need to last a long time for me to want to buy them. Your point about just taking a peek though, that really is my downfall, I can’t resist seeing if I can find something but I must resist the urge more. The prices in charity shops are now almost the same as buying new so that has helped though as it stops me getting loads.

I have to say, I think this year is the year I pair back even more. I’ve gotten ride of over half the kids toys, with their help, yesterday. And I finish it up tomorrow. This includes the kids books too. After that job, I want to focus on the kitchen, and get that sorted, where we’re going to sell all our Tupperware heat and eats. We find we prefer ones that we can see the food inside. Labels help, but my husband and I are both visual people, so need to see the food.

BEST DECLUTTER VIDEO EVER! I have watched a lot, and you really make sense and just to see you throw away half ful containers makes me feel like, ok its ok. I think one feel you are wasting, but the amount just overwhelms you. I just need to get started to get areas cleared for my own memtal health and then worry about donating and selling etc. That is what kept me going in circles and get overwhelmed at "am I being wasteful, people can use this, but I dont have the time now to go everywhere it "can go/be used". My mom passed and her things overflew my home. I need to get my sanity back, but holding onto everything for "what if"...

I don’t know you, or anything about why you have loads of sentimental items, but I lost a sibling and a lot of other family all at once in my early twenties. I took an item of clothing of each of them to keep, it’s ok to fold them and put them away out of sight, you don’t have to be a robot and keep nothing to have a clean home, keep the things that mean something to you, look for a creative way to store them or display them. I have framed the front of a tshirt before to keep it when I didn’t plan to wear it.

As someone who makes a living by thrifting items from thrift stores, Goodwill etc to resell on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari & Facebook. It is really hard for us to find good items in great condition, so we really need everyone to donate! You can also make really good money by listing the items you find in your home. When an item sells, you just print a label and have USPS come pick it up! I have a lot of trouble holding on to items because I think it will eventually sell though, so be careful about that!

My local charity store sells most clothing and household items for $1 or $2 taxfree. I re-use plastic laundry hampers for delivery - easy to clean and carry. In my younger years, buying from second hand stores helped me so much and now I can return the favor.
