Instead of using a pea size a few days a week and working up to daily (which still gave me major irritation) I found success using the TINIEST bit daily. I used a sprinkle size only on my forehead then wiping the residual on the apples of my cheeks (no nasal folds no crows feet) and jawline. I did this method every day and very very gradually increased the amount. This daily method with increasing the product amount slowly is what helped me better!
My dermatologist gave me 0.25% and i used it 24/7, for a month with no issues, then switched to all day except for bedtime. Slow peeling but no issues and after a month it lightened my brown spots. I also do my own chemical peels. I find these are the two best to get results. Soon i'll start the 0.1%. So glad my insurance covers it with zero co pays!
Angie, have to thank you for a few things: 1) I finally put myself on a gentle mature skincare routine with your advice. This past winter, my skin became super dry, super sensitive, & developed rosacea. Turns out, using skincare from my 30’s was too much for my present 61-year old skin. 2) I started with Agency two months ago and love it. I also have been using the vitamin C & CoQ10 sparingly. 3) Lastly, for the first time ever, I’m using sunscreen on my face. Game-changer for my sensitivity & rosacea. I use the R&R or CeraVe tinted mineral depending on the day. 4) With my skin looking healthy again, this has me using makeup again, using your application tips & suggested products. Thanks for helping me feel pretty again. Also, love your vlogs, day in your life, what you eat & exercise. I’ve made my own playlists, & having you in my ear makes cleaning & working from home like being with a great friend (you). Truly love your content, your honesty, your thorough research, & your sweet personality. Sending you my very best. A million thanks.💛
I’m starting to get it on my nose! And I don’t wear makeup unless it’s a special occasion, so thank YOU for this comment! Love your idea of making a playlist! 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing the "wash off method" 😊 I used a more cautious short contact therapy schedule successfully on my sensitive skin when I started tretinoin. Apply, wait 5-30 minutes (add time slowly depending on your skin's response), wash your face, and apply your nighttime skincare. In the clinical studies comparing short contact with traditional overnight application, results after a year were the same but irritation & side effects were significantly less. I started with 2x/week for 5 minutes & monitored the response. After 3 weeks of happy skin, I added 5 minutes each week and then added a day every 4-6 weeks. When I got to 30 minutes 5x/week, I moved to once per week overnight application OVER nighttime skincare & moisturizer. (My skin needed almost 6 months to get there.) Once my skin was happy with that one overnight application per week, I added one short contact application per week and very gradually increased time & number of days from there. It's definitely a marathon & not a sprint!
I'm trying this method at your schedule I just used it for the first time and I'm glad I only did 5 minutes because I can feel some burning I slathered on the moisturizer that came with the trent and wow I did not realize how desperately my skin needs a moisturizer it looks five to ten years younger already lol no kidding
Luckily, I have had some really great dermatologists throughout the years. The last two said to mix the Tretinoin with a small amount of Vanicream. It has helped me to avoid what I call “the Retin A burn”. Love your videos Angie!
@Natasha S it's a drugstore moisturizer. Amazon sells it too. It's is very basic as it contains no fragrance and is free of allergens. My dermatologist had recommended it for my sensitive skin. The Vanicream line also includes a body wash and body moisturizer. I love the stuff. Very affordable too.
Agree, most of my friends use Retinal without any side effect. Most have sensitive rosacea skin and a busy life. No schedule, just every evening Retinal and they see results it takes a bit longer. And them finally using spf correctly makes a big difference as well!
@@queenofstitcheswarrior2668 I also have extremely sensitive skin with rosacea and I have been using retinal for the past weeks with no issues so far (I use the eye balm from Avene on the entire face - specifically because it does not have fragrance).
I have a friend who winters in Yuma, AZ. I occasionally have her pick me up some Tretinoin when she goes to Mexico. The first time she got it for me I got a large tube for 3.00!
@@ItsMeCheryl1231 Angie has a video from over 5 years ago where she got the Tretinoin from India for around $20. It was before all these internet places sell it and you had to get a prescription and get it from a pharmacy and it was fairly expensive. It's a lot easier to get now.
Hi Angie. I sound like a broken record, but I've been using Tretinoin since my 20s. My skin was oily and acne prone. I had a fabulous dermatologist, who told me to use it forever. I don't remember the irritation. I went from gel to cream once my skin turned drier. I use it every night, no problem. I'm in the minority, but using over 35 years or so my skin is so used to it. A great suggestion for getting it at a good price, use Good RX. I think it costs around $60, and it usually lasts me 9 months. Great tips for those who are just starting out. I've just recently started using a nighttime moisturizer followed by an oil. I can honestly say, that it's kept wrinkles at bay. At 64, the only real wrinkles I have are crows feet. Your skin looks absolutely beautiful and so youthful. You are a Godsend. Have a fabulous weekend. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. 💕💗😘
@@AngieHotandFlashy I guess I certainly was! He was young, and was doing all of this research on Retin-A. I should try and recall his name, so I could look him up and thank him! I'm glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day. Mine was nice as well. 💗💗
@@BCsells Hi Barbara. It's the generic Retin-A. It's called Tretinoin. You do need to have a doctors prescription, but it's not covered under most insurance plans, so I go through Good Rx because they really give you a great deal. ❤
I’ve done a combination of tricks for my Tret (I had no purging, no irritation): I started with the “short contact” / “wash off method” method where you apply on dry skin, leave for a short amount of time (working from 30 to a couple hours). Once I washed it off, I went in with a super calming super moisturizing night routine. I did this for the first month and a half. Then I started leaving it on overnight once a week for a month, and worked up from there like you said. Once I was leaving it overnight, I did the “sandwich method”, where I moisturized, left it for an hour, then applied the Tret, let that dry a couple minutes then moisturized again. I never had dryness (I was using purito’s circa barrier sleeping pack as my moisturizer), which was super impressive. I also completely cut out exfoliating actives for the first 6 months, and reintroduced an exfoliating day once a week later on, and slowly. So slowly. I incorporated a lot of calming ingredients during the day (Centella, bakuchiol etc.) and ceramides and panthenol. A couple months in too I started using my red-light therapy again, so maybe this helped with the lack of redness. I did become a bit sun-sensitive when I was outside, so I got myself a sun stick and used it *diligently* where I was reapplying sunscreen every hour…. Maybe over-kill, but it helped I think. I used the Abib one. Finally, I used a service like you mention (for folks based in Europe, Dermatica is the service we have access to so you don’t have to use the formulations from the derm, which aren’t great 😅). So it was a long… long, long slog (I got up to three days a week in 7 months) but I worked my way up to every other night Tret use (within a year) and boy oh boy does my skin look goooodddddd.
Ok…I doubted the Agency but thought..what the heck, I will try it. 64 years old…I can say nothing has mad the difference in my skin like these products. They have made a huge difference in my texture, firmness, pore size in just 3 months. I am sticking with it…can only get better! Thank you! Its for real with results.
Thank you for writing your positive story! I signed up with Agency yesterday so haven't even started but will soon. My 50th high school reunion is in 3.5 months and your words give me hope that my skin will look a bit better by then 🤞. I feel my mission is to follow Angie's advice closely so I can avoid set-backs.
This is my 2nd year using tretinoin 0.05% and my skin has never looked so smooth, firm, glass-like and healthy. I’ll be going up in strength to the 0.1% this second year. Fortunately for me, I never got that nasty peeling purging stage. Morning routine: Cleanse Tone Vitamin C Azelaic acid Moisturiser SPF 50 Evening routine: Double cleanse Tone Tretinoin Moisturiser Rosehip oil( to seal everything in)❤
@@zee-aaliyah I have oily, acne-prone skin but it can be sensitive too. You should’ve started out with 0.025% as you’re a beginner. Then gradually upgrade to 0.05%. Try and use the sandwich method( moisturiser first, then tretinoin, then moisturiser to avoid irritation). Use a pea-size amount and try to use tretinoin every other day. Like 2-3 days a week. Hope that helps.
Good morning Angie! I started my tretinoin journey almost 6 years ago after trying and giving up on it decades ago because of lack of information and guidance from my derm, using it every night right off the bat and experiencing lots of irritation. This time, I started out with the lowest strength (.025%) then moved up to the .05% strength on my next visit to my derm, a year later. When she bumped me up to the 1% strength, even though I eased into it gradually, I was peeling constantly (even though I was only using it 3 times a week) and since I was still going to work every day and wearing makeup, that just didn't work for me, so I went back to the .05% strength, using it every day. Well, I guess our skin can change, and even when we're used to a product, it can suddenly become irritating. My skin got to the point where I could no longer use the .05% every night, so I backed off to 3 times a week, which is where I am now. I still get a little bit of peeling, here and again, but I figure this is a good maintenance regime for the long haul. I wish I'd known how to use it properly back in the 80's when I was first prescribed it but, better late than never! Great tips, Angie! ❤
The same thing happened to me. I was told to use it every night. The peeling and irritation along with no information and guidance scared me off. I wish I knew then what I know now. I'm glad to say I've been doing well with the gradual method of use. 😊
I just got on tret this month. My derm told me to start with every other day, but I knew better thanks to Angie’s videos. I started with once a week, and I’m working up from there
@@giulitorelli That’s what I’ve been doing. I do my entire skincare routine, including moisturizer. Then I wait about 15 minutes to make sure my skin is completely dry, then I’ll apply the tret along with moisturizer on top. It’s seems to be working well so far because I’ve been able to apply it 4 times since I got it on May 3
I’ve been on .05% tret (agency) for a couple months now and still can’t get up to every other day without skin flaking. I do all the tricks except wash off 🤷🏼♀️ I’ll keep going though. 💪🏻
Hi Angie! You were the catalyst to my finally using Retin A, I avoided it for years because I was afraid that my skin would be a red peeling mess all the time. You took the fear out of my taking the initial step. I started using tret three years ago and have worked my way up in strength. I just wish I had started sooner! At 63 with the help of good genes and skincare, my skin is firm and bouncy, and my lines are minimal. Thank you so much for the research you do to provide us with well informed information! 🌺
I get Tretinoin from Mexico and get the rest from Agency. More than once I've had issues with my Agency formula not being mixed properly and they don't like to own up to this issue. Last time they did a good job, after I threatened having to contact the BBB. I'm satisfied now and will continue buying from Agency. Thanks for letting me share my experience.
I’m going on 16 months using Tretinoin. I’m just *NOW* starting to see those great results everyone talks about with Tretinoin. So yes, it does take a long time to see amazing results. Of course acne will stop sooner, but the deep down plumping and softness takes a lot longer. I was crazy and started right out at .1% every single night, because I was suffering from cystic acne so badly, for so many years, I was sick of it, and wanted it gone now! 😆 I didn’t have a whole lot of redness though. I was only sore for probably 5-7 days, then my face was acclimated, and has been good since. I wish I could show my before n after pics on here 😮. It’s crazy how much it has eliminated my crows feet, under eye wrinkles, 11’s between my eyes, and my frown lines. I always recommend it to people around me, but they never start it, and have no idea what they’re missing. 🤷🏻♀️
So even after 16 months you could really see the reduction in wrinkles? I wonder if it takes much longer if only using it 3x per week. That's all my skin can tolerate. I'll keep at it. Chasing those good results!
This is encoraging because I have been using it for a year pretty religiously and not seeing great results and I was starting to wonder if it was worth continuing
The wash off method or Short Contact Therapy worked brilliantly for me but I put it on for a half hour twice a week for a few months, then started to use it overnight for one night a week and the other night SCT, and did that for a few months. I’m up to using it two times a week overnight. It sounds like a long drawn out process but it has worked for me and as you say, it’s a marathon not a sprint- using Tretinoin. My skin is looking better with little irritation at the start and none now. But for me, SLOW was the way to get my skin to understand what I was putting on it. Listen to your skin. Thanks Angie!
I always did and still do the sandwich method. It seems to help a lot with irritation and I got no peeling. Just the odd pimple which is rare. My skin is sensitive and though I may be able to use with no moisturiser , it works well, I see good things happening with my skin so I just keep using the sandwich method. That’s for overnight. With SCT, I used it straight on my dry washed skin. As it was only on 30 minutes, it worked fine. Good luck!
Fyi, I started following your series because I turned 50 last year and noticed that makeup didn’t look good on my skin. I was planning to go to New Orleans for my 50th Bash around Halloween and wanted to dress up and needed makeup tips for my more mature skin. Thus you! Because of your videos I have adopted a skin care routine and boy, have people noticed. I wasn’t a sun worshipper but certainly was getting some signs of aging. Now I regularly hear that I do not look my age. I thank you for your honest advice and tips for looking as young as you feel. 😊
I think starting out at the lowest dose is important too. I dont think this was mentioned. I started out with .025% for the first tube or 2. I think they lasted about 6 months. Then bumped up to the .05% for the 3rd tube, and finally to the .1% which I have been using for about 2 years. I have recently started with the .025% on my neck and chest now as well. Not every night though. Necks are sensitive! Mine is mostly itchy, not irritated. Sometimes I wake up because I'm scratching it in my sleep. Still so worth it though. My crows feet are gone and my skin is so smooth now.
I’m trying to decide if I should go straight to the prescription strength … I keep hearing “ACNE” as a reason to use it but I’ve NEVER in 59 years had acne … so is that the main reason ppl use it ❓ I was just wanting it for anti-aging … I’m 59, have severely dry skin all over … no acne ever
Been using Tretinoin since 2017 and I used to put just small amount waited 30 minutes and used a heavy moisturizer on top …now I go in with all my night products not waiting and I’ve never had an issue ! On the max .1% I will usually take a night off on the weekends but will never give up using this! A lot of other products come and go from my routine but this is one that’s never going anywhere 🙌Have a great weekend!!
So you've been using for 6 years, are you getting results anywhere near as good as Angie? Have your eyelids lifted, for example? Her skin isn't just staying the same but getting better and better as she ages!
I think my skin is better using the product vs if I was not I can only compare to my Mom’s skin at the same age which was beautiful and she always looked younger I think consistency is key as well as sunscreen it really is the only product that has been proven and tested to benefit from using it! If I had no other products this is the only one I would keep 😊
I have used retinal & adapalene for almost 3 yrs. I just recently started tretinoin 0.025% last week 3 times a week & so far I have no purging on my second week. I use 3 hydrating toners before I apply tretinoin then moisturize at the end.. so far it’s working for me 😊
The issue with these subscription models is you will end up with a load of bottles of product if you go really slow on usage, I know you can pause but I used Dermatica & ended up having to cancel & restart a couple of times as my skin reacted badly so I was only using tiny amounts and 1 bottle would last months which can then go off too 😏. So pleased for you Angie, your dedication is impressive. I switched to retinal in the end and get on very well with that & so much cheaper too x
😊 I think I was the person telling Angie about the wash off method, I know I did explain it in a comment a month a couple of months ago. It definitely worked great for me. My skin isn’t sensitive though, I have no problems using Retin A on my neck and chest.
You can also use Tretinoin Gel Microsphere 0.04%. which is time released for less irritation i hear...I just got my order from a pharmacy in india.......All Day Chemist...Just started so hoping i have no irritation...Good info here and if i have problems i might just try this agency.
I started with a Curology and switched to Agency. They bumped me to .07 and I had nothing but irritation and peeling even using just once a week. I tried all the suggestions numerous times and nothing helped. They didn’t seem interested in taking me back down to .05, so I cancelled. Now I’m using MaeLove Moonlight and love it.
I also started with curology probably a year and a half ago and switched to agency after a couple of months and my experience has been pretty good so I'm sorry to hear that yours was not the same. I will say that they do make you do check-ins and ask how your acclimating when you bump up in your strength and if you answer the little questionnaire and tell them that your skin is irritated, your provider usually will reach out to you. Also, I've always had pretty good communication with my assigned provider and anytime I've reached out to her she gets back with me pretty quickly so maybe if you wanted to try again, you'll likely get assigned a different provider that might be a better fit. I just bumped up to a 1% finally after all this time but I will say did take me a lot longer to get used to 0.07 then all the other strengths. If you do decide to give it another go, just talk to them until them you don't want to go above a .05 And I'm sure they will happily keep you there. I don't think there's anything better than Tretinoin And if you were able to tolerate that level, its leaps and bounds more effective than any over-the-counter retinol or retinaldehyde
I started Agency in June, and I love it. It takes the guess work out and helps for a slow build in formulation. I've been solely using Agency since starting, so I'm ready to add something new. I received my first Timeless Vitamin C order yesterday. I can't wait to see the results!
Thanks, Angie. I started using Agency about a month ago and my skin looks much better. They prescribed me the lowest amount at .009% and I experienced some peeling for about 4 days while using it every night. My skin no longer peels and it looks so much smoother.
I just got my first tube of tretinoin today and of course have hot footed here to the Oracle to learn how to use it wisely.😊 lve already progressed through increasing strengths of Retinols and then Retinaldehyde with mininmum irritation thanks to you Angie. 🎉❤
I’m turning 40 this year 😮and have used Tretinoin (Curology) for three years. That and wearing sunscreen everyday have been the BEST things I’ve ever done for my skin. Great tips Angie!!
@@phillyjilly I personally do not use my tret around my eyes daily. Everyone once in a while I will but only after applying a hydrating eye cream first. For me it’s too harsh on my under eyes. I do use it around my mouth but I always layer a very hydrating moisturizer on top. I have dry skin.
You have no idea how thankful i am for this video. I order Agency because of you. But, yesterday, i cried looking how ugly my face looks because of the peeling and redness i even have, like injuries all over my face, and it burns. My spf burned my night moisturizer burned 🔥. Lol, i have it all. So i was about to give up. Because on top of all that, since given birth 2 years ago, i have black spots on my nose and upper lip. But, looking at your video, you gave me hope. And understand that i have to be patient. Thank you for all you do to help us.
I’m going to try a modified schedule to leave on and then wash off. Thank you, Angie, for the tips! I stopped using my Musely tret mix after it made a horrible hot mess of my face. I’m not impressed with their customer service and I will be switching to Agency when my Rx runs out.
I started with Curology because of your videos. Switched to Agency but stopped a couple of months ago. It was just too irritating and I didn’t really see great results. I appreciate these great tips in case I decide to go back.
You should try and get plain Tretinoin. I couldn’t use Curology or agency because the extras they put in (azaleic acid etc.) irritated my skin. I use Altreno (brand of Tretinoin that is a thin lotion and spreads easy) from my derm and I don’t have any issues.
Hi Angie! Thank you so much for sharing these tips! I'm 40 and recently decided to start my Tretinoin journey about 3 weeks ago, and oh my goodness. I'm on .025 in strength, and the prescription label said to use once every night. After day 3, my face was on fire. Severely dry and felt like I had a terrible wind burn. After a week, it let up so I cleansed my face, let it dry, applied my moisturizer first, then the Tretinoin. It's not as bad, but still sore. Weird thing about this soreness, it's more noticeable during my nightly face cleanse, and when I apply my nightly moisture, it burns really badly. It's been 7 days, and I've not used Tretinoin. It's getting better, but i wasn't sure if I should keep applying it once a week or back off, allow my skin to fully heal, and then proceed again by applying only once a week. Similiar to your beginning experience with Tretinoin. Please help me. Lol, thanks!
Same thing here but I started with .4% just over 3 weeks ago (yes, I’m an idiot). Applied it 3x, then a week later…BAM red, hot, dry & peeling continuously (though eyes & lips are fine & I applied it there too). I’m still not using it because my skin just started calming down a few days ago. So hopefully in a few more days I’ll start using MUCH less, much less often, mixed with moisturiser. But not until my skin is tolerably calm. Pain is always worse at night especially anything skin related, btw. Especially anything that’s inflammation related like this.
I never knew about Retin A until I started watching your channel. I wish I knew this year ago, I have been using Curology but now switching to Agency to get the age spot products too. Thanks for your information - Angie, you have made a difference to how I look and feel!
I love your videos and appreciate how open you are; they've helped me a lot. I’m not assuming you’ve had any procedures, but if you have, I’d love to hear about your experience. Tretinoin is amazing, but some influencers don’t mention additional treatments like laser or Botox, which can give the impression that Tretinoin alone fixes everything. Just wanted to clarify that I’m not assuming anything about your routine.
Hey Angie! I swear by retinol and tretinoin. The closest thing to turning back the clock that I've seen! My skin is definitely thicker (as you mentioned). I know that salon services that used to be painful are not anymore. THANK YOU!
Love Agency. I am coming up on one year and it took me nine months to acclimate to the Tretnoin. I can see how people give up, but I was determined not to, and the providers at agency were very helpful. Thank you so much for telling us about them
I love this product and I’m so happy you shared it with us. I have been on it and think that my skin looks better but, I am very sensitive and for whatever reason it’s my jaw area that becomes like fine sandpaper and itchy. I’m pretty much OK everywhere else I wanted to mention a product that has really helped aid in this, it’s made by a company called, KEYS. The name of the lotion is called Tortuga super Emollient lotion for dry sensitive skin. It smells a little bit natural and medicinal, but I don’t care because it REALLY helps relieve that itchiness and dryness. So, if anyone has that issue, they should give this a try.
I would add a few tips, maybe have been mentioned in another video. 1. Tretinoin, like Vit C, is a skin sensitizer. That means even though you just use it at night and wash it off in the morning it will increase the risk of sun damage. So you have to wear sunscreen while exposed to sun. 2. I always end up with bright redness in the morning after wearing Tretinoin, so I use a cleanser and toner with ingredients like aloe, or oatmeal, chamomile, lavender or rosewater in the morning that decrease inflammation. A lot of product lines geared towards sensitive skin have these. My favorites currently are bliss and sukin products. This removes or decreases redness. 3. Unfiltered tamanu oil is magical for skin burns and irritation. I buy mine from a company called liberty naturals. It is shocking how well this works. It tints the skin like the color of a self tanner while on, but it works for my pale skin. It does not a permananent tint. It is a plant oil that promotes collagen growth. But it is excellent for irritation as well. Can be used after peels or vit c as well.
You’re exactly right-I cannot stand the time after cleansing, waiting for my face to dry. It’s the dry feeling that is so uncomfortable. Being able to use the sandwich method sounds so much better. I personally love the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing face cream. It’s light and lovely, made for dry skin!
I’ve gotten a prescription for tretinio. I haven’t started using it yet, I’ve put on my calendar to start this Saturday and to use it every 7 days for the first month, and next month every 6 days, following month every 5 days in the following month 4 days and so on. Hopefully this schedule works out.
Thanks Angie and you also mentioned that using OTC retinol can be use as an alternative day when I don’t use the Tretinoin. That’s a great idea. Thanks again
I was doing Curology for years. Recently heard some conflicting info from Derms that the compounded formulations and not as good as using straight Trentanoin. So recently just got a scrip from my derm and was thrilled that my insurance covers it and I have no copays. I decided I’d rather save the money and do that actual scrip so I know for sure what I’m using will be effective as in the studies. I get plenty of other ingredients with my existing skincare.
I have tried TA in the past with significant peeling/ redness, so I gave up just to restarted with TA but the lotion (Rx brand is called Altreno). I have been using it for about 3 weeks. I do have minor peeling no redness and I am using it almost every night. What a difference! For reference I am 56, very dry skin. However, I would keep expectation in check. Yes, this is one of the VERY FEW interventions that helps but even the studies on the efficacy show only minor effect. No miracle and it takes a long time before you even notice anything.
I’ve had clear skin my whole life no acne but about 6 months ago I Started getting acne and irritation I’m 41 so I’m so confused but I really wanna try this. I have dry skin so I’m a little scared but gonna give it a go thank u 💗
I use the sandwich method with zero irritation. I apply my serums, moisturizer allow it penetrate about 15 minutes then apply my tret twice a week. I just started about a month ago with the lowest dose and my skin is doing well. I also use it on my neck, half a pea size on my neck, pea size on my face so far so good. I also use a red light therapy mask, 15 minutes daily . Lastly I use a micro current device every other day . I'm 54 yrs old and have generally good skin but the mid portion down my throat is developing some crepiness so I'm hoping the tret will help to reverse the crepe...
I love Altreno tretinoin! Been using it for four months with NO irritation probably because it has glycerin. A bit pricey but never going back to the cheaper old tretinoin.
@@321morlan4 I have never used the sandwich method with Altreno. I kept waiting for irritation when I first started using it but nothing. Very pleased!
Angie, I watched your video years ago on trentinoin, I want to thank you so much for that! I started 4 yrs ago, and I went through all the peeling and landed up twice a week for over a year! I finally heard you talk about sandwiching and started that! I am now almost 70 and using it 5 nights a week. It's all good now, and working very well! Thanks, Angie!
I have just started with tretinoin after meaning to for ages and only just getting round to it. I shall follow your advice thank you. I am in the UK so have got mine from Dermatica who seem similar to your suppliers
Good, informative video. I was shocked though that among 5 methods of Tretinoin applications you didn’t mention the one that probably most dermatologists recommend, as well as all online posts mention - mixing a pea size of medication with your moisturizer and applying that to your skin. Seems like a simple method. No need for your (or your viewer) method no. 5 which takes hours to apply. Not many people have so much time and I personally like my dermatologist mixing method as it takes no time (just mix well).
Can you please make a video showing ALL skin care and makeup items you pack on a longer trip? One week or more in Europe, for example. You’re using a lot of products, and so do I, and I’m always struggling with transfers to travel sized bottles, what to take and what to leave behind, etc. Thanks, I appreciate you and your channel!
I use ordinary lactic acid first, allow to dry, then add agency formula, wait & add moisturizer and that seems to work well. I have sensitive skin so was happy to be able to tolerate these products, and no longer have flakey skin.
Hi Angie, thank you so much for your very informative video!! Here’s my question. I usually don’t wash my face in the morning. I just use my light moisturizer and sunscreen and some makeup. If I use Tretinoin treatment, can I still NOT wash my face in the morning?
I have tried Tretinoin treatment a few times before, but I always felt like my skin would darken and I eventually quit. Of course I wear sun screen, but is it because I did not wash my face with cleanser in the morning? Or is it because I apply too much Tretinoin ? Any advice would be appreciated.
Once upon a time, I did the same, purchasing tret in Mexico for use stateside. However, I found it was actually MUCH more expensive than the script of generic tret I bought recently. Even with the addition of a dermatology visit, the overall Cost was less. So, it “pays” to investigate comparative pricing.
Angie I was so happy to find you! I wouldn't dream of buying anything you hadn't recommended so thank you for doing all the "cosmetics" leg work for us. There is nothing like the joy of sitting down with my espresso and listening to your latest cosmetic adventure. You brighten up my day, my face and my bank acct. Angie would you pls compare the foundations with serum? There are quite a few out now so it would be lovely to know which has the best ingredients. You changed my world.
I finally did it - signed up for a trial of Agency! Been using .05 tretinoin for about six months (prescribed by my Derm) and am mostly past the worst phase of "getting used to it." But I liked the idea of the other added ingredients to address even more skin concerns.
@@maidende8280 I still have to be very careful with it. Like, don't get it anywhere near around my mouth or chin. Have you heard of the layering method? Sometimes I do that if I think my skin needs it. Or, I simply skip a night or two. Sorry, that's not a terribly specific answer but as I go through my mid 40's, and seasonal changes, I sort of have to constantly adjust what I'm doing. LOL
@@luvzdogz No, that’s helpful thanks! I haven’t tried layering yet. I got .4% & used it 3x over a week then a week later BAM, huge reaction. My skin is finally calming & I’ll start using it a lot more carefully now. And MUCH less of it, mixed with moisturiser. Weirdly my mouth is fine even though I applied it to my lips. Eyes fine too though I applied it there. I have rosacea though & the tret flares it. And rosacea mainly affects the midface.
I am picking up my subscription today. I have eczema and the Derm put me on Tretinoin. This information is helpful. I am 68 so hopefully it will help with the eczema damage that I have and will help firm my skin up.
Angie, have you tried the ORDINARY ARGELINE SOLUTION? please could you let me know what are your thoughts on that and where to include that in routine. Thank you
I might be the odd one here but I have been using it since 2012 and I am still peeling... my remedy is to moisturize all the way but that turns my makeup into a hot mess. Any ideas what to do to prevent the peel and dryness after all this time?
I started with agency on April 14th and I already see improvement in my skin. Started at .009% and my provider already bumped me to 0.015%. I use every night and so far no issues. I used otc retinol for years so I think that helped my skin acclimate. Dark spot formula is helping as well. I’m impressed already! It is pricey but you get ingredients targeting your skin issues. One day I’ll see if my dermatologist in real life will prescribe me tretinoin and see if it’s cheaper.
I also started agency 6 months ago. I’m on my second cycle of hydroquinone for dark spots. I see a difference for sure, wish I started this a long time ago
I use The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% in the morning before my spf moisturizer. This really cuts down on the peeling! I believe it comes in lower concentrations as well. I don't have any irritation with this or with the tretinoin.
My doctor started me on a .01% Trentinon gel 4 weeks ago. I’ve been able to use it every night on my face without any issues. However my neck and chest have had some irritation. So now I’ve stopped applying the gel there until my skin calms down
I found switching from a cream form of Tretinoin to a gel form, even though I’m oily, it really helped eliminate any irritation. It was slow going( once a week for months), but am now able to use nightly other than occasionally skin purging with Vaseline 1 night a week.
I started with Curology a few years ago and switched to Agency last year. I was fine until I went up to 0.1%, then the nonstop flaking started. My PA changed my prescription back to 0.07%. However, now I have three bottles of the tretinoin because I have had to reduce my days as I've tried to get the pealing to heal. Tretinoin is really helpful, unless you peel like I have. PS, I use a rich moisturizer before applying tretinoin.
I had the same issue but when I asked to back down a step to .05 and they just kept giving me suggestions to try, so I cancelled and now using Maelove.
Thank you so much for the Wash Up method (fith method)... pure magic! I am using this method now for 10 days and had zero irritation (and i used 0.5 strength immediately)! And I have all the advantages of Tretinoid... soft skin, finer skin, less inflammation... and no peeling, no redness! I am so grateful for this tip! My skin is clam and looks so much better already... literally, no bad side effects after washing my face I moisturize my skin very strongly with Aloe, Castor Oil, Vitamin E oil etc. For all who have had bad experiences in the past (as I did) and want to try again... use the Wash Up method described here... no downtime at all. All of you have a wonderful day.
Within this short time I can now use it full strength without any side effects. This is truly phenomenal - especially, since I gave up last time I tried. It was to painful and difficult as my skin felt in an upheaval all the time. The Wash Up method is a Godsend. How are women here using exfoliation? Does one still need it with Tretinoid or rather skip it as I understand Tretinoid has an exfoliating action? Thank you, Angie and the lady who made you aware of this new method. Especially, small inflammations are dissolved over night. @@AngieHotandFlashy
You helped me years ago with your initial video on how to use Tretinoin without irritation. This update is excellent. Two of your best tips through the years are commitment and consistency with my skincare. You have really helped me ge on track. Thank you. BTW you look amazing and I love your makeup in this video. Robin
Good morning Angie! I'm back on Tretinoin nightly. I was using it nightly for 2+ years and fell off the wagon for 5 months . Luckily starting over hasn't been an issue, seems my skin still remembers. Granted it wasn't easy about 3+ years ago when I started.
Just began using Tretinoin through Agency. I’ve been following you for years. It just dawned on me to look into the cost of Agency vs what I was using. It’s relatively the same but a little less expensive. So I ordered and began using it around 3 weeks ago. I noticed the irritation and peeling because I was using it every night. Just before heading out on vacation, I stopped using it a few days ahead of time because I didn’t want my skin to be peeling. I also did a derma plane treatment. I do that at home about once every couple of weeks anyway. I had better results from my derma plane treatment with less irritation. I feel like it’s due to the Treatment that I’m receiving from Agency for my skin for moisturizing also at least. And today I’m in the middle of my vacation and I got to see this video and I’m very encouraged about getting back home and restarting with some time in between applications. So thank you again for a wonderful advice!
Hi Angie. Great educational video (as always😊) you were my inspiration to restart Retin A about 5 years ago and I always get compliments on my skin -at 59 years of age. I have skin that peels easily and have found that using 0.04% during the cold dryer months and switching back to the 0.1% in the spring helps keep the peeling at bay. Keep up the great work! 🇨🇦🥰
Great video! Your skin is gorgeous Angie! I used retinol for a year 1st off and on but my skin didn't like it. I have very sensitive skin. I switched to adapalene and my skin liked that much better. I used it for 2 years. Then I finally was able to get Trentinoin. I used the once a week method and my skin was still in shock. No doubt it's much more potent than adapalene. Even after a year I still use the moisturizer sandwich and only use 0.025% every other night. But I'm overjoyed with the anti aging benefits. Retinol and adapalene do not compare. They are better than nothing, And they help a little with anti aging and acne but no wonder tret is the gold standard. I'm so glad I listened and tried tret even though I was scared. It is worth the peeling, irritation and redness! I look younger now than I did when I started this skin care journey 5 years ago.
It really works (I’ve only applied it 3x, starting 3 weeks ago - and I haven’t used it in nearly 2wks because I’m still reacting) but man it makes my rosacea flare so badly! The peeling is nonstop. I needed to wash & moisturise my face every few hours at the peak (which lasted over a week) because that’s how fast it was happening. The hot tight feeling is even worse. Nothing I’ve tried soothes my skin except applying toner/misting water, but as soon as it evaporates I’m back to square one. All my moisturisers don’t feel like they do much. Finally a few days ago the peeling stopper & the discomfort & dryness are lessening. I started off using way too much, clearly. I have .4% from Spain. Still waiting for my skin to finish calming back down, then I’ll try a tiny amount mixed with moisturiser and wait 2wks before I reapply. But I can see a substantial improvement already. The new skin is definitely younger, firmer & more even. I hope I can increase my use quickly.
Thanks Angie! Now my tretinoin is applied nightly! Once again, I am so happy that you made the decision to continue with your channel. The sharing of your live make-up application was relaxed and thorough, you really connected well, naturally. Quick question - what are your thoughts on applying Differin as a morning serum; keep in mind I am using trentinoin at night. Thanks again!!
I like having other actives with my tretinoin. I feel like if tret is only .1%, then what's the other 99.9%? Seems like there's plenty of room in there for azalaic acid, niacinamide, and a bunch of other stuff. I wish they'd toss some ceramides, peptides, antioxidants, and even lots of pigment inhibitors too.
I just started on Agency after watching this. Thank you so much for this video! I did my moisturizer with the Agency and had no discomfort at all on my face and neck! 😊
Angie I think putting the serums on after applying the Trentinoin is something g you have suggested in the last that helps too! Followed by moisturizer!
Your video was very useful. Especially with the sunscreen. Thanks for the tips! My 4yo has been using 0.05% on his arms, legs, and cheeks 3xweek for 2 years. A 10% urea containing cream on the other nights. It'll be long term. I didn't know there are different strengths. Or that you can see a dermatologist over the phone. The waiting lists to see a dermatologist in my area are huge (5-6 months private or 1-2yrs public). We got the impression we wouldn't need further reviews, just get repeat scripts from the GP forever. Thank you so much! Going to look for an online service provider in my country.
1 time a week for a month is a little to carful to begin, maybe 1 time for two weeks then switch to 2 times for two weeks, ect. Especially using good calming and moisturizing products. i used for two years and took a break due to life and money, just started again at .05% and use 2 times a week
Thanks Angie! I love Retin A and won't be without it. I'm 55 and have been using it around 8 years. Your videos about it years ago is what got me started on it. Thanks for everything xo
I’m going to give it a try, thank you! I like that I don’t have to talk to anyone! And I know they’re there if I had a question. Pretty self-explanatory. And it really helps listening to you. Can’t wait to try.👍🏻
Is it safee to jump straight to the 0.1% for a first-timer?
I'm turning 42 this year and I'm just doing whatever Angie tells me to do. Her skin speaks for herself. I hope I'll age as well as her
Angie, have to thank you for a few things: 1) I finally put myself on a gentle mature skincare routine with your advice.

I started using Retin-A when I was 30 and I am now 67. Boy do I wish I had all these wonderful tips all those years ago!
Me too!
Good day ! Have you noticed the growth of fluffy facial hair after tretinoin?
@@Olena-q8w I have not noticed that happening to me.
What is vanicream?
@Natasha S it's a drugstore moisturizer. Amazon sells it too. It's is very basic as it contains no fragrance and is free of allergens. My dermatologist had recommended it for my sensitive skin. The Vanicream line also includes a body wash and body moisturizer. I love the stuff. Very affordable too.
My derm asked me to mix tret, azleic acid and a bit of moisturiser.
Did you mix it with the thicker version in the big tub? Or the thinner version?

And for those who still cannot get used to prescription strength retinoids, you might want to try adapalene or retinaldehyde...

In Mexico you can buy it in any pharmacy for less that $18 dls per the tube.
I just came back from Los Algodonas Mexico & the .1% was $56. You can buy the .05% for $2
I have a friend who winters in Yuma, AZ.
I have used Agency for 3 months and my skin has never looked better, do not even need foundation . My skin is not sensitive 👍🏼

Hi Rene....What’s the product name you buy from GoodRX?
@@BCsells Hi Barbara. It's the generic Retin-A. It's called Tretinoin. You do need to have a doctors prescription, but it's not covered under most insurance plans, so I go through Good Rx because they really give you a great deal. ❤
Or you could vacation in Mexico and pick some up at any farmacia without a script. I actually get mine at Costco here in Merida.
I’ve done a combination of tricks for my Tret (I had no purging, no irritation):
I started with the “short contact” / “wash off method” method where you apply on dry skin, leave for a short amount of time (working from 30 to a couple hours).
Short contact every day? Or weekly once
When did you start seeing skin improvements?
Ok…I doubted the Agency but thought..what the heck, I will try it. 64 years old…I can say nothing has mad the difference in my skin like these products. They have made a huge difference in my texture, firmness, pore size in just 3 months. I am sticking with it…can only get better! Thank you! Its for real with results.
Thank you for writing your positive story! I signed up with Agency yesterday so haven't even started but will soon. Do you have sensitive skin? I just started out with .05% but I think I’m going to decrease to .025% bc my front cheeks have been on fire
I started with once a week, and I’m working up from there
@@Seashelldub applying a moisturizer under it helps a lot

I have no problem with tretinoin! But problem signing up with agency!
I’ve been on .05% tret (agency) for a couple months now and still can’t get up to every other day without skin flaking. I do all the tricks except wash off 🤷🏼♀️
I’ll keep going though. 💪🏻
Be patient, it takes time for your skin to acclimate properly. It took me a year to get up to using .05% every night.
So awesome to hear Judy!!
Good day ! Have you noticed the growth of fluffy facial hair after tretinoin?
Hi
Did you use it around your eyes?
I have no problem using it around my eyes and neck with sandwich method@@md8552
During washoff were u doing Sandwich method ? Or jus apply tret n wait fr 30 mins n washoff ?
YOU ARE NOT 60??? What!!!!! You look AMAZING!!
This is great. Just started tretinoin. Wow. Lots of peeling. I’m 73. Need reduction in fine lines and laxity if possible. Information was wonderful.
Wash off just with water or gentle cleanser?
At 46 I just dived into this journey. I was so afraid for years because I already have dry flaky skin.... Perfect timing for this video!
Love that!!!
I’m turning 40 this year 😮and have used Tretinoin (Curology) for three years. That and wearing sunscreen everyday have been the BEST things I’ve ever done for my skin. Great tips Angie!!
same! my skin looks so smooth at 53 :)
I have that as well just .2 i think of tret! Do u use near eyes or lip corners?
Good day ! Have you noticed the growth of fluffy facial hair after tretinoin?
@@Olena-q8w I have not noticed this. But I also dermaplan my face at least once a month.
I love the sandwich method! 😊 It’s worked great for me! The Cerave PM lotion is the best for this.
So happy my videos helped you find the right skincare & made a difference! xo ~a.
Mine is compounded with hyaluronic acid and I’ve had no issues. I remember using as a teen with acne and it was horrible! So dry and peeling.
I just placed my first order with Agency after the trial product. I’m grateful for your willingness to share your everything!! 🙌🏼
I use .25 under the eyes and .5 on the rest of the face. If .5 is too irritating, I also use .25 on the face.
I’ve had clear skin my whole life no acne but about 6 months ago I Started getting acne and irritation I’m 41 so I’m so confused but I really wanna try this. I have dry skin so I’m a little scared but gonna give it a go thank u 💗
So wish Agency would come to Canada.
I use it as well, and still use the sandwich method it! I always wonder if I’m getting absorption with using this method with the altreno.
I meant to add, i built up to this for over a year & now able to use daily
Hi Angie, thank you so much for your very informative video!! Here’s my question. I usually don’t wash my face in the morning. I just use my light moisturizer and sunscreen and some makeup. If I use Tretinoin treatment, can I still NOT wash my face in the morning?
I have tried Tretinoin treatment a few times before, but I always felt like my skin would darken and I eventually quit. Of course I wear sun screen, but is it because I did not wash my face with cleanser in the morning? Or is it because I apply too much Tretinoin ? Any advice would be appreciated.
I get my retin A in Mexican pharmacy when we vacation. So cheap and over the counter
In Mexico you can find medicine that needs prescription over the counter. We used to bring antibiotics.
I bring them every time we visit😅
How to use my deluxe cleaning kit
Can you get it on line from Mexico?🤔
How long did it take for you to start getting used to it? The hot, tight feeling & intense peeling is driving me crazy!
Your hair looks fabulous today!
Thank you!
Hi Angie...I use tretinoin and I am sensitive so, I put a thin layer of Vanicream on first!
CeraVe is an excellent product.
Clarifying… you use Vaseline one night a week?
I started with Curology a few years ago and switched to Agency last year. I was fine until I went up to 0.1%, then the nonstop flaking started. My PA changed my prescription back to 0.07%. However, now I have three bottles of the tretinoin because I have had to reduce my days as I've tried to get the pealing to heal. Tretinoin is really helpful, unless you peel like I have. PS, I use a rich moisturizer before applying tretinoin.
I think you can pause the service for a bit…
I had the same issue but when I asked to back down a step to .05 and they just kept giving me suggestions to try, so I cancelled and now using Maelove.
@@robingoeckner5388 I previously did well at .07, so I anticipate doing well again.
Awesome to hear!! So happy it works for you!
Robin
Thanks Robin!
Good morning Angie! I'm back on Tretinoin nightly. I was using it nightly for 2+ years and fell off the wagon for 5 months . Luckily starting over hasn't been an issue, seems my skin still remembers. Granted it wasn't easy about 3+ years ago when I started.
Good day ! Have you noticed the growth of fluffy facial hair after tretinoin?
I apply it right after drying my face. Been using it for 5+ years, no irritation and I want as much absorption as possible.
Great tip!
Have gone from the Avene .1 retinal to a lower strength prescription RetinA. Am following your tips! Thank you Angie!
Amngie, I took your advice and started with Curology. Indeed the formulations are progressive and it is like a coaching for my skin.
Thank you. I signed up with Agency last month. So far so good.
When I started using tretinoin I started at lower strength and worked my way up in strength over a year.
What percentage of Tretonin did you start with? Did you increase the percentage over time? Thank you for this informative video. ❤😊
My problem is using it during the summer months. I do use sunscreen all day long. Still, my skin burns even with a large brim hat.🤷🏻♀️
You’re so welcome!
Good day ! Have you noticed the growth of fluffy facial hair after tretinoin?
@@Olena-q8w None, tretinoin doesn’t cause hair growth
I’m going to give it a try, thank you! I like that I don’t have to talk to anyone! And I know they’re there if I had a question. Pretty self-explanatory. And it really helps listening to you. Can’t wait to try.👍🏻
