Flying Southwest's Inaugural Flight to Miami

- Hey guys! On November 15, 2020 Southwest Airlines began flying to Miami International Airport, an airport they eluded since their beginnings in favor of a smaller market in Fort Lauderdale...and I was sure to be on this first flight! The push finally into the Miami market definitely was in some part due to COVID-19 and the pro-Florida market at the moment, but it certainly was in the making for a while. When Southwest first started, they avoided primary airports of which legacy airlines dominated, but as the market and airline industry has changed, these airports have increasingly becoming more low cost carrier-friendly. And so it happened...the "southwest effect" has invaded MIA, an airport dominated by American Airlines. As for this first flight, I really enjoyed flying Southwest again as I always do and this inaugural experience just made it even better! Seeing how much it means to the SWA employees is just so awesome. The only thing that pissed me off a bit was MIA. I'm not sure why they didn't have their celebrations and festivities on inaugural day, rather chose the next day to have them. It wouldn't bother me as much until I saw some of the news stations proclaiming that the 16th was the first day of flights when it wasn't. Talk about fake news. Not Southwest's fault at all on this one though...this is on their new destination airport. I commend SWA for starting up at MIA and really enjoyed the flight, despite the lack of celebrations and very few decorations. Hope you guys enjoy!

Proud of my employer Southwest for acquiring this airport. Excited to non-rev to South Beach all year long.
I wish WN would bring back EYW! Miss those keys! 😀
@@arloarmani6438 Replying in the same hour on an old post makes you look like a dumbfuck obvious spammer
I am so grateful that you posted this inaugural flight. The fact that you uploaded another wonderful video on top of the fact that it was an inaugural flight on one of my favorite airlines is phenomenal. LUV has certainly been expanding recently.
I wait all week for ur vids Keep up the hard work my man!
Cool!!!
Wonderful video footage, I always enjoy your channel.
I'm happy southwest is flying to miami.
Keep the videos coming and continue to stay safe.
God bless and One Love from beautiful Jamaica.
Man I love the sound of the engines climbing out!!!!!!! Music to my ears man
I am really enjoying catching up on your vlogs...you do good work and it is appreciated!
I just love SWA’s crew and staff friendliness. I feel welcome when I fly with them!
I don't live too far from BWI. Now that I found out that SW does direct flights to Miami, I don't need to worry about driving all the way down to IAD anymore. Tysm for this video, and all the effort you do to produce all of your travel videos thejazzguy13 Aviation. I've been a big fan of your channel for quite a long time now, and your videos are still awesome.
Love the video! Loved the Caribbean music at the end in particular. Gave me great tropical island vibes.
Thank you for these videos. They fill my travel void.
Best airline and a fantastic destination. Love seeing SWA in Miami, FL
Quality video and I love your format!
Great video Mr. Jazz! I heard from a friend it was absolutely chaotic at Bluegrass Regional Airport in Lexington last Saturday as AA (my favorite airline, though UA is slowly passing it) launched direct MIA service on the same day that a Delta 737 came in from MSP unexpectedly since we almost have exclusive regional flights (other than G4)K
New snacks look pretty solid. Good luck with the sponsorships, that would be awesome!
This is good to know. Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely LOVE SOUTHWEST AIRLINES! It’s my fav airline :-)
Same
Mine too.
I have fun flying and I am going for spring break and I can wait and I love watch these
Wow just looking at the clouds is amazing
This is just awesome.. no words needed
I second that.love the thumbnail pic too.very colorful.gets your attn.i love southwest.never flown b4.too chicken.too poor.he makes it look so easy.
Filmed on my birthday!! November 15th!! Great video!✈
Great video , congrats bro.
Love seeing mentions of Albany!!! Would love to see you fly there one day when there are no COVID restrictions for there!
Flying southwest to Miami next weekend. I got on their app last week to find a trip for a mini vacation and noticed they added miami. Will be my first time there. Cant wait
First of all....Happy Thanksgiving today! I just randomly found your channel and subscribed. I follow a few other flight vloggers as well! The last time I flew commercially was on Northwest Airlink and Northwest Airlines. Looking forward to seeing many more of your videos! Glad I found your channel! With full respect! Mark in Iowa.
Thanks man and happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Btw go to sleep, it's 2am 😂
Cool video, just booked my flight for April 2021 when they start service to Houston - Bush airport!
Just 14k subscribers?, man this dude deserves more
Amen.lots more.love all his videos.
Had I known you'd get me on video wing walking, I would've done myself up a bit. Hahaha Cool video!
All the LUV from the BWI Ground Ops team! I am on the PM shift for the ramp maybe I will see you at some point!
Southwest really does offer a great product. I fly southwest, Delta or JetBlue when I fly. Btw I love the retro colors too!
Well done on the video. As I’ve said to you off here, I was equally as bummed about no party, but the heart of Southwest’s employees made up for it. I thought the cabin crew could’ve been a bit more excited (my return from HOU had a really excited crew!), but the pilot was genuinely thrilled to be a part of history and the staff I interacted with at MIA and HOU was equally excited (although the ramp crew went on break when we landed so we had to wait 20 mins). Can’t wait to do it again soon!
Yah totally with ya man and thanks! Whoever's in charge of MIA's instagram said the higher ups made the ultimate decision to have it on Monday instead (which makes no sense, but whatever). Was nice to meet you again!
The boss baby the season 2-the PU the coughing!
Yesterday!
Do.you cough? Yes¡!
Keep up the good work on the videos I Have my First High School Hockey game for 2020 season this Saturday
Can't wait to visit BWI this August!
Man, BWI my most favorite airport! The first thing that comes to mind was having a 8 hour lay over there on my way home from west palm beach. It was very boring but we found a spot and just did what we could to stay busy!
Great video, flying this flight in early December
BWI is one of those airports where lots of people flying Southwest Airlines make connections in which is why certain concourses and airports are busier than others during COVID19
That’s why you choose Southwest Airlines. Last time I boarded a southwest flight was from Denver to Phoenix to Houston. That was very recently on September
Omg! The flight attendant with the red jacket @5:16 was on my flight from MCO -> ALB a month ago. She was amazing!
I can’t believe southwest is flying to my home airport
Love how the engines sound I fly southwest
Amazing report, Bro! Hope Sothwest can be success on MIA. I'm still waiting SJU-PHL direct route with them 🤣🤣
Haha I bet! They're much better than Frontier :D
SO what did you do in miami? and where was your inbound aircraft heading to was it back to bwi?
Cool! I honestly didn't think Southwest would fly to Miami. I thought they would stick with Ft Lauderdale.
They still have most of their operations are out of Fort Lauderdale and they bring in lots of money to the county. They also paid for part of the new terminal 1 expansion.
interesting
@@airwi3268 I didn't think so, either. Then again, I didn't think Southwest would launch service at O'Hare International Airport or George Bush Intercontinental Airport, either.
@@crazycoollady Yeah. Southwest has really been expanding this year.
@@airwi3268 They really have, which surprised me as we are living in a pandemic.
If Southwest's expansion continues at the rate is, then I wouldn't be surprised if they start serving Syracuse Hancock International Airport in the future.
Like your vids! More please!
Southwest is always so nice compared to the other airlines...
we had a 60 70 and 90 on the PNS-BNA portion i was surprised that many people on the flt and the 800 was a little over half full
Very nice!
Any idea where World Atlantic flies to? Might be a topic for another trip report, the chance to fly on an MD-80 once again! For a Yinzer City resident,I'm sure the MIA weather is most welcomed this time of year. Did jfkspotting join you in your ride into central Miami? Never have understood the need to stand in the aisle as the jetway is positioned in place, door not even open yet,am pleasantly surprised at the inflight offerings, can't get over the idea of canned water! Sometime this coming spring,SWA is supposed to start service out of my home airport,IAH--as for destinations, highly suspect they'll be competing with AA to ORD,MIA and PHX
Dope!!
🤙🏻
On Nov 18, 2020 I flew on Spirit Airlines first flight to Bucaramanga, Colombia from Ft. Lauderdale. They sprayed the plane with water from fire trucks at departure and arrival.
Aye that brownie brittle smacks
Nice!
i was on a inaugral flt from ATL-DEN got a comp mug plus a huge party in DEN was on a EA 727-100 in fall of 78
I’m still waiting for the Gold WN flight
well I figured there would be more hoopla. I am taking the first flight into COS in March, 2021. I hope there will be some noise at the gate there..
It’s older Southwest plane that you showed him that Clip I saw a lot of those planes on the show airline so cool
Dang, I missed this inaugural. And I totally missed the Palm Springs one, too. But that's why there's thejazzguy13! LOL

When was the psp trip and where did the flight go
@@datsniggawater i think PHX
1000th LIKE!!
Another great video! It was so cool that I saw Louisville on the flight board in the beginning. BTW, this past Tuesday was my birthday.
i had a connection in Miami on my way towards Denver (where i live) and it was kinda like this! i remember bc i had two flights (BWI-MIA) and MIA-DEN)
I’ve seen the retro plane before at MCO!
Which airport do you prefer Ft. Lauderdale or Miami?
I have to go to the airport. I'm missing these new things....
I flew on the SWA TPA-MIA inaugural
The fact that folks still think SWA is a LCC carrier is proof of great marketing. I’ve never seen the appeal with the exception of odd routes like BNA-BOS. But to each their own
didnt get the brownie thing but got another sweet thin on the DEN flt along with the yellow snack mix on all the flts i had
That was a steep climb!
I might be wrong, but from my experience i feel like Boeing planes take off slower than Airbus planes. Whenever i fly frontier, we're literally up in the air from start of the runway to lift off in 10 seconds. When i flew southwest, it felt like we were going down the runway to reach take off speed for sooooo long.
Did I see that Southwest flies into both MDW and ORD in Chicago.
can you use a laptop to get WN wifi on board the flights
Southwest flights can go to Miami that’s so sweet
glad that somebody is trying to challenge AA there.
At least the pilot greased the landing. I like flying SWA.
I miss Auntie Annie's in Austin. Best place to get a cheap( inexpensive) snack before a flight.
I love the classic southwest livery❤️
27:19 Fun fact Miami has the 3rd largest skyline in the United States with over 300 high rises.
Who is second? Chicago or Los Angeles?
@@gvs376 Chicago
@@ethanstein42 I had a feeling. Miami is certainly impressive! Especially beautiful at night.
@@gvs376 yep
@@gvs376 LA would probably rank around 6th or 7th. I would put Houston and SF before LA (in terms of skyscrapers)
Hey. What about Love Field in Dallas. SWA owns about 95% of the flights minimum. Where is Love Field when Compton Midway or Baltimore?
I love Miami visiting I didn’t fly southwest yet in pit need to tho where will he go next
the 700 series has a small rear lav
I love how if someone was spotting and they been for a while and they see southwest land there like: *WHAT*
What app is that?
I hate having to fight for a seat on Southwest. I wish they had assigned seats.
Yeah I agree, that's one of the things I don't like about them. However, they are an amazing airline with great customer service, great rates, free changes and cancellations, and 2 free bags (that was the deal breaker for me when I chose them over American). Southwest and Alaska Airlines are definitely my favorite airlines.
Hopefully after the Pandemic ends I'll fly there. If SWA flew to SWF, they'll have a party there when JetBlue started.
@thejazzguy13 Aviation Do you ever have aspirations to become a pilot. And also what is that intro song that you use.
I loved seeing those Eastern Jets
Two different liveries unlike the old Eastern. If only someone could bring back National.
@@gregsells8549 The SunKing
Cool video. Took Southwest from BWI to SFO via LAS in March. Love the crew and snacks they served onboard. The -700 seems to have only 1 Lav in the rear right?
Yah you're correct, my mistake sorry bout that
@@thejazzguy13 nah you're fine...puzzles me too as most 737 has 2 lav in the rear...wonder why SWA only fits 1...
@@kennethchongweithart7905 Southwest had a single lav configuration on their -200’s back in the day and stuck with that configuration on their -300’s, -500’s, and -700’s. Their -800’s and MAX-8’s have 2 lavs in the back.
They also run to rsw in ft myers
I saw you take off!
1:24 that kinda sucks that they didn’t even tape 4 balloons to the tv screens. Least at our airport, we have the decency to tape balloons to the screens even if it’s just another airline flying a route already served
I really hope they fly to O hare :(
Admit it: you just wanted a piece of cake. :)
However, you had the Auntie Anne's pretzel. They're great.
Never tried em.
Wait SW still flies some of the Desert Gold livery 73s? 6:02
Yes, I believe that’s actually the last remaining SWA (Southwest Airlines) Plane to have ttc original Gold Livery + Old Interior design. (With some slight changes, like the seats are the newer blue, and the traditional logo is how the newer and more reliable Heart One logo)
Southwest is coming to Chicago O’Hare in February. I think it will still remain at Midway as well.
Yeah it’s exciting but don’t worry they will stay at Midway as well as open new routes to and from O’Hare.
Southwest Airlines Is Coming At Dallas Fort Worth On March
@@carolyntate4765 I got a feeling that they are coming DFW and JFK soon!!
@@carolyntate4765 Nope, Southwest can’t fly to DFW until about 5 years from now unless they want to give up gates at Dallas Love Field, which they won’t.
@@windanthonystream JFK maybe, DFW won’t happen for at least 5 years.
My favorite airline. Wish they would fly out of Newark Liberty again though or even fly from JFK , which is basically in my backyard .
My question is, how does he know where these planes are going??
What is the first name song
I think Southwest will do very well in Miami. I heard people in Miami would drive to Ft Lauderdale to fly Southwest. Now they dont have to drive so far.
miami to ft.lauderadle isn’t bad tho
Will you be on the 1st Southwest flight into ORD? I am booked on the 1st flight that lands into ORD on FEB 14th
Dang how many new locations did southwest book?
My home airport is Albany so nice to get a shoutout for a small airport👍🏻
I was so excited to see Albany pop up lol I moved a few months ago but always like seeing mentions of home pop up :)

if only long island does direct flights to maimi would be heaven
