I'm surprised Minneapolis rated so low as I have found it to be excellent, but then I am used to Toronto
I am shocked that FLL airport ranks #3 in your list. TSA employees are rude, unfriendly, it is crammed. A lot of flights from there go to Haiti and some of those passenger do not wear deodorant, add to that 90℉ heat and humidity in the 80 - 90% range outside, plus anxiety and the smell is enough to make you nauseous at the very least. The food choices are dismal and the employees are rude or Christians that will give you a Bible lesson when you pay. The JetBlue terminal is super outdated. I am sure you're reviewing the other terminals not that particular one. Mu guess is that the East cost lags behind the West coast in customer service. For some reason their training is extremely poor and every time you talk to somebody who works at the airport you get exhausted or frustrated because they have a chip on their shoulder and they unload on you. Please teach them to be pleasant, life will be much better for them and us the flying public.
@@teleopinions1367 I was just about to chime in on the same thing. FLL is terrible!
@@josenar145 - I read somewhere that they will be doing a $4 billion renovation. Hope they do it soon and train properly their airport personnel. Greetings.
Wall Street Journal where is the IAD!!!
Props to that director of the worst airport for having the guts and doing the interview.
Pretty cool on Newark to respond to being the worst.
Newark's not that bad in fact; there is a shuttle train to NYC it's basically like landing in one of the boroughs.
@@QuizmasterLaw They probably aren't horrible. I just thought it was cool they responded to being called the worst.
@@Chasls i agree. The fact that they went on camera, owned up to it, shows me that theyre committed to making the needed changes. Kudos.
@@QuizmasterLaw Terminal C isn't bad at all. It's really Terminal A and B that are lower tier, as their architecture doesn't really allow for many amenities after the security checkpoints.
@@QuizmasterLaw But it's way out in Joizy!
Dears, NOBODY in New York would think of shlepping out to Joizy.
Except Asian tourists who haven't a clue.
WE go to LaGuardia and Idlewild!!
I rather have a McDonald’s and Panda Express at the airport instead of a local restaurant that charges $20 for a simple sandwich.
About three years ago, a prepackaged egg salad sandwich at the Phoenix airport cost almost $10.
20 $ for a stupid sandwich. Its better to wait for some time and have it outside somewhere else.
CoolStuff Unboxings $20 awful tasting little Mexican rice bowl at LAX a year ago. I honestly would rather take McDonald’s or Subway, at least they won’t be ripping me off.
@@chanish9363 Yeah
@@enticingmay435 As a New Yorker who often goes through JFK. I found LAX highly disappointing in the food section. It would either be organic or something really high end in the sense that it's very expensive. The portion size would be small and the taste just not there. I like having a option for McDonalds, Panda Express or something quick and easy that's affordable as well.
The Phoenix airport guy was really happy for being number 1 😂
Most are carefully designed to not let tired travelers take a nap.
And reviewers are careful to never mention this. Probably because it would make almost all US airports look bad and many non-US airports look good.
Why is that?
I love America but I hate american airports. I've been to some awful airports in my life across the world but Orlando Sanford beats them all. For every 100 passengers there were about 20 seats so most people had to sit / lay on the floor. I'd expect this from 3rd world countries but not from the US of A. Furthermore, american airports are the most expensive airports I've been to, and I've traveled extensively across Europe and Asia. Tampa international - $5 for small bottle of water? Are they for real?
joosunkmybattleship If you sleep you can’t shop at their stores.
Diego Perez now America is become 3rd world by destroying 3rd world countries.lol
At this point I'm actually scared to go to NY airports, everyone hates them 😂
they are diabolic... sometimes you wait up to 3 hours in line in order to clear immigration.
AND SUDDENLY
MOSCOW
SHERMETOVO
you don't know how Good you have it.
I've been through all 3 and I found EWR to be decent and JFK and LGA to be dreadful.
They are overcrowded due to the large New York and north east population and a lot of business and holiday travelers from Europe and elsewhere
Help I need to fly back to London from JFK. Wish me luck!
Free wifi... Ft Lauderdale
Free coffee... Atlanta.
Farthest walk from arrival to departure... Chicago O'Hare
Plot twist: when you compared them to other top international airports: they're *ALL* the worst 🤣🤣
Not always.
O'Hare was far more pleasant than Paris CDG. Paris CDG was filthy, staff was unfriendly, and an absolute nightmare to navigate.
Bullwine85 Last time I went through CDG (2010 or so) it was all new and clean. What year you went through?
2016.
CDG is light years ahead of New York LaGuardia (which is the worst airport I've been in BY FAR), but I'd still prefer O'Hare or Detroit above it.
Other international airports like Seoul, Dublin, and Toronto were really nice however. Seoul is probably my favorite
Bullwine85 I don't know how bad La Guardia is but I went through JFK once...never again !!!
Old, moldy carpets....water was dripping from the ceiling.
To top it all off there was a drunk guy who started vomiting on people standing in line...yes vomiting while chasing people !
People started yelling and running away while screaming "Police...security"
It took them like 4-5 mins to show up...by that time the damage was done..kids were crying..people were freaking out.
Surreal to say the least.
I’ve been to the Incheon airport and it feels like it’s 10 years in the future compared to here. Everything was minimalistic and clean. There are a lot of places to eat and stop at (I tried this Boba at the airport and it’s really nice). Plus there’s lots of greenery. You really need to see it for yourself in order to fully experience it to.
Any system that gives LGA a passing grade is a flawed system.
It's grading on a curve
Don't rent a car in the Phoenix car rental monstrosity, the surcharges are outrageous, do a van to off airport discount chains. Newark airport has been "under construction" every time I've used it, I'm 65, and if I never fly out of it again, I can die a happy man.
Allan Hegyes that’s how Arizona funds for things. Tax the tourist. I’m not joking, one of the taxes that they impose on rental cars is to pay for a stadium
Good one Allan haha.
I was just at the Phoenix airport on Monday and I can tell you that they certainly didn’t have outlets in every seat. And once I found one, most of them didn’t work.
Trick 60 which terminal.
I'm a huge DIA fan. Centrally located in the US, so there are tons of flights to airports all over the US. Plus tons of international ones. Prices are really good, with all of the competition and the fact that Frontier has their hub/hq here. It's a newer airport, very well maintained and clean. It's not super close to downtown but it's easy to get in and out of the airport. Parking is really reasonable as well, usually can park for 5 or 6 bucks a day with coupons that are easy to get.
Just an interesting story I have, when I was around 15 I was going on my first flight by myself, I was absolutely terrified, almost got stuck in Atlanta (went from South Carolina to Atlanta, Georgia back to Phoenix Arizona). They let the plane take off with only around 10 passengers, had the entire row to myself, they even gave me all the snacks saying they would’ve just thrown them out at the end of the night anyways. Since it was so delayed most people just didn’t go on the flight which is why it was so empty but I was 15 in a random state with no parents so I couldn’t do that. Anyways got into PHX at around 1:00 AM. The airport was totally empty, by far the coolest experience I’ve ever had, never seen an airport with no people in it
The only reason why I like Newark is because Is it's close proximity to where I live . It's a 30 min drive or 45 min train ride . Being a United hub I can get connected to pretty much any where in the world.
That’s absolutely true, however, United Fares can make or break you if you aren’t a frequent flyer.
I live a 30 minute train ride and a 35 minute car ride from Amsterdam schiphol airport. Its pretty nice indeed to live close to a big international airport
I 100% agree with Newark being the worst. One time, I had to spend 30 minutes waiting for a flight in terminal a, the seats were super uncomfortable while there was a 15 minute line at a small concession stand in the center. It just felt overcrowded.
Newark's renovated Terminal C is pretty nice. Nothing special but well-lit, plenty of outlets, bathroom upgrades. Lots of seats with tables in front of them so I can chill on my computer - I have found that lots of airports I have been to don't have that.
Go Phoenix!
Sad that we have 3 airports here in DC but not one on the list smh.
These are the 20 largest airports in the U.S. All three D.C. airports are mid-size.
bro the bay area has 3 airports too but none on list
Even before clicking the link I knew Newark would be on the bottom. I got a bro-in-law who grew up in New Jersey and he always flew out of New York if he could.
Airports like JFK, DFW, LAX, ATL, IAH really need their own category. Can’t compare those to Denver and Fort Lauderdale!
Intresting.
I like the PHX airport the best
3:00 His justification was that he handles 3 of the worst airports and all of them have similar conditions. No Kidding!! there must be something wrong with the Port Authority and their upper management!! Then, this guy blames the infrastructure! Ok partially that is a reason but still, it can not justify long lines in TSA, poor customer service, delays (ok could be the weather), the restaurant (seriously those concessions are on them). Absurd!
Jhann Heras at least the TSA has more to do with the Homeland Security, as it is a federal agency while the PA is not a federal & the airports don’t have anything to do with the TSA staffings...
Phoenix airport terminal 3 reminds me a bit of Incheon airport with the glass and more clear view. Makes sense why it would be like that. If it had Korean text, a large teddy bear, and robots. It would suffice more.
Still better than Berlin Airport! Oh, wait! Has Berlin any big international terminal yet? :D
Here in Manchester England our Airport is under constant repair and upgrade but our Delta Hub Atlanta seems to be stuck in the 1950s. Last week ALL the elevators were out and I have to use a wheeled walker ! (The Staff there are a delight, always smiling and helpful) . LAX is my worst nightmare , Really badly organised , but again Staff doing their Best !
Newark probably deserved that list, I got an 8 hour delay with United and only got like a 20 dollar coupon to buy stuff.
I would like a story on international more known larger airports... Phoenix? What about LAX, San Francisco, ORD, mccarran, and Atlanta?
How does Dulles rank and feel these days? Been a while since my family's flown out of there.
Thunderbird 1
The temporary C/D concourses are still there, and what’s worse, United has built its Polaris Lounge already, so the “temporary” concourse will be here to stay for at least 3 decades.
I mean, if the airport employees treat me like one of their grandson, I will happily vote them to be the top 1 friendliest airport either.
Phoenix airport might be newly renovated but I went to one of the terminals and it sucks there was no restaurants everything was closed
I hope they all upgraded their seating for megaweights.
Question where Kansas city international ranked at
All of the ones in NYC/NJ I’ve seenthem. And sadly, ours in LA. 😣
93.5mbps??? I live in Australia I wish I had that internet speed
zzz 1 i live in the Philippines and one would be very very lucky to get atleast 10% of that speed. 😹
Check out internet speed in Austria or Estonia and the costs. You will get even more depressed.
I can’t believe airports have better internet then us 🤦♂️
What kind of speeds do you have?
AMacProOwner I just did a test and got 11.3 mbps download speed and 15.1 upload speed even though I’m paying for 50 mbps
Anyone have the midsize and small airport list?
It appears that Dulles doesn't exist
WE CAN NEITHER CONFIRM NOR DENY THAT
Have never been to PHX, but of the large airports I have been to, I would go with DTW, MCO and IAH as my top overall experiences. That includes seating at gates, food options, large terminals so you can breathe and space people apart better, and of course, TSA. Bottom of the list for large airports are ATL, LGA and ORD. I have always agreed that LaGuardia is a third-world country, but O'hare just had to take the bottom spot for 2019 and the first part of this year before the shutdown. The food is awful at O'hare and the gates are cramped with throngs of people, I call it Ebola in a can as I always catch some kind of sickness there... everytime.
What a coincidence i was about to search this up....
If Phoenix is the best large US airport, then that doesn't say much for the other US airports.
fixpacifica it has actually improve a lot. Terminal 3 is a testament to that
I was just at PHX and it is definitely not 1st. The baggage claim, terminal, and rental cars are all miles apart and you can only walk or take a slow bus to get to them plus their was barely any restaurants. All these problems are fixed at DTW and ATL which are my 1 and 2.
Dtw is my home airport I have been to ord horrible phonix is a pain to get around and it feels kind of like slc old terminal slc is also great
Edit dtw has improved since getting rid of the smith terminal and we have 2 modern terminal
Newark's food options have greatly improved, and the last time I flew out it there, security lines weren't as bad as I remembered them. I think they are relying on outdated Yelp reviews and passenger impressions.
Wanna be the best airport in north America? Hire some of the airport guys from Singapore, Hong Kong or Incheon airport! Or maybe outsource the entire operation to them!
Ernest Kwok Yes! I’ve been to those airports and they’re AMAZING compared to the US. I wish they would copy/consider the designs so I wouldn’t have to wait 2 hours in a TSA line. Transportation, Customer quality, Wait times, everything would be better.
Wonder why SEA, TAC is not right around the bottom. Waiting for almost 2:30 hrs. in line just to clear the Customs. Only 4-5 officers showed up on that day while the waiting line almost snaked its way up and down Mt. Rainier.
I just flew out of EWR one week ago. Never again...
Do a best and worst airport for the uk
First Class, Business Class, Economy Class will be group in the same lines upon arrival at IAH airport.
"Upgraded bathrooms" Newark has portapotties in the hallways with painted plywood walls to cover it.
I’ve flown out of sky harbor it was alright, I didn’t even know there was a dog.
Okay, Tampa has poor food options, but they have separate tsa checkpoints for each concourse, so the lines are so short!
Funny cause I'm going to AZ next year :) cant wait to land in Phoenix!!
TheSnowFoxParty stay away from terminal 2. That’s the la guardia of terminal.
@@Lzrdman91 lol will do
Hope you land at terminal 3, it's been totally renovated and is awesome. Agree T2 is the oldest and not plesent. Beware there is no Terminal 1 :)
Only at Sky harbor I can get to the airport 50 minutes before the flight I’m trying to take. Buy my ticket at the counter, go through security and still have 20 minutes to chill.
I know right 😂🤣
Portland (PDX)?? - such an amazing airport on all fronts.
It's a mid-size airport. These are the 20 largest ranked.
The Airports in the United States aren't terrible. Just very inefficient and old. It's like being back in the '80's. European and Asian Airports are mostly newer and older airports are renovated quicker. I think US Aiports will catch up in a few years. Especially the NYC-area airports (which are truly awful).
You are expecting improvement to U.S. infrastructure
LOL
@Fox Atlanta wasn't good nor bad. I enjoyed it while I was there twice.
I had a bad experience at Newark (EWR), flight delayed
I swear every flight at Newark is delayed. They should just push them all back an hour 😂
@@leonelbrava2738 i had to sit there about 2 hours 😭😭😭. I agree with u.
When I go to an airport I'm not looking to be fed and entertained. I go there to catch a flight. I was walking from my arrival gate to the pickup point for the car rental shuttles. It took me 20 minutes to get to my car. This is the Tucson Airport. In Dallas it was a short walk from curbside to the gate. I had no complaints about anything. In Chicago O'Hare I landed caught the train from the American terminal to the remote parking lot, caught a shuttle bus from the the end of the line to the nearby Metra Station and took the train 40 miles north to my destination. To be honest the only airports which I found to be subpar were those in NYC. Chicago is not difficult to navigate if you know what you are doing. Going between United and American terminals, you walk in the passenger tunnel underneath the Hilton Hotel which has people movers. The biggest problem at O'Hare is the TSA set up because there is not enough space to put the facilities. Don't like O'Hare or Midway then flight north to Milwaukee, a very people friendly airport.
My favorite airport i've ever been to is the minneapolis airport even though i've only been in the minneapolis airport for like 10 minutes. It literally looks like a mall, if you stripped away the airport factor of the minneapolis airport, it would probably become a mall.
Yep... The airports in New York are terrible. Berlin too. Interesting article. Thank You
These big airports like Newark ain’t got nothin in Cleveland. We’ve had a concourse D just sitting there empty for 10 years.
I already knew all of the NYC area airports were very last before even pressing play. They’re outdated and a pain to commute through.
A good airport is easily reachable by high quality public transit
Phoenix is just going to get even better ;)
LGA is improving tho. It's being renovated as we speak and soon it will be great.
Ultimately what makes for a good or bad airport is design. LA is bad because of the bottleneck design. It's dirty and old. The gates being spread out and far away from each other also makes for a bad design. I've been to PHX and i would have to agree I like it. Able to navigate the airport with ease
Compared to airports in ASEAN, all US airports are worst.
Till you see other International airports from countries like Changi, Narita and Incheon
Agree totally! No comparison to Changi with any US airport for next 100 years. This is based on the impression when I transited through there 15 years ago; now I heard it's even better.
I’m surprised Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is tied for third. It is a very outdated airport.
I agree. Every time I fly to FLL to visit family, both T1C and T3, I'm always amazed by how bad it is. Strange layout, FLL has been under construction for as long as I can remember and it looks exactly the same as 15 years ago. It stinks, no good food anywhere, long lines, rude TSA, the list goes on
Operations are superb and for me it's in and out. I just though don't consider it a big airport
It’s the 13th busiest I. The us
doesn't matter if planes arrive and depart on time ?
The NY area airports are cursed with bad weather and high volume, can't really do anything about that
whitefangv only have bad weather for like a few days in the winter
They should really learn from the Asian airports!
No American airport can even come close to any list when I'm comparison to a major Asian airport. More specifically Singapore and Seoul.
That requires 💰. You try and suggest anything like what they have in those airports and some people will howl about wasteful spending.
I think the quote from the beginning of "Crazy Rich Asians" says it all: "JFK is just salmonella and despair." Even after the upgrades and new Delta terminal it is still just a terrible airport.
Hello beautiful woman with a beautiful smile, I wish you all the best this year, how is the weather over there now
It only costs $2.50 to get from Downtown Atlanta to the world's busiest airport on MARTA.
Portland has ranked best United States airport since 2014
Has WSJ considered HNL? That airport is pretty low in standards
I find it hard to understand why PDX isn’t on this list...
Refuse Kid15 not big enough
2 years later
..
No terminal 1
lol when ur closest airport is Newark, jfk and lga. Lol.
Hey WSJ, I like the video and everything, but there is no way San Francisco Airport is better than Miami
I really hoped Chicago would be first.
Ankush Nagwekar it’s getting there. Once the remodel is finish it probably will
Which one? I think O'Hare is the worst airport I've eve flown out of, including Newark. I find MDW is to be 5x better. And I'm saying this as someone who lives in Chicago.
This is kind of like having a beauty pageant with 100 contestants, taking the 20 ugliest girls (#80 - #100), then ranking those 20 based on their beauty. America, wake up - the world passed you out years ago.
My opinion before watching this is that all of them are equally bad.
Edit: except for JFK. That one's even worse.
Fly through Reno airport, in and out in no time.
I bet I'm unique because I actually looked this up
Yeah. Sounds about right. Phoenix has this barebones but chill feel where everything seems to fall into place. Terminal 2 is my favorite though.
What if the worst airport doesn't have TSA, will it be number 1?
The BEST airport for me is not all about infrastructure.. As long as an airport has EXCELLENT CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE, GOOD WIFI CONNECTION and CLEAN TOILET, that’s good enough for me. I dont care about delayed flights as this has several uncontrolled factors.
I don’t mind EWR. LGA is my least favorite. Don’t understand how they can put LAS that high. And SEA should be way higher IMHO.
Stupid Newark airport has the best terminals terminal b and a just need touchups
bruh it seems like everyone hates EWR
I’m surprised IAH made the top 10 list, just.
I'm not. Both of Houston's airports are run really well!
W H. They do! I was just surprised for it to be up there, haha! Didn’t realize how good it was compared to ones like in New York. That and the expansion for hobby was a good thing. Combine that with the new METRO plan for BART and more connectivity, and we’ll have a much better transport infrastructure system!
Denver's security lines are pretty awful.
There should be at least one airport in the US comparable to Singapore or China. We have nothing close. All old and decaying infrastructure. They rather build 20 warships then invest at home in transportation
How is SFO in 14th it is so much better than LAX.
I don’t trust this review, it does not match reality or other online surveys. Orlando MCO number 5? I guess this is focused on domestic flights only, because international arrivals suck. Often over 2-3 hours for tourists to clear customs. Not to mention lack of parking and long tsa wait times.
Why is Fort Lauderdale on this list, half of their terminals are complete dumps with low ceilings and cramped holding rooms.
Because most US airports are equivalent to third world countries
Dallas airport customer service is horrible...
Pretty sure lga would be last
Our TOP US Airports is DIFFERENT. Check out our video as we give some love to BUR, JAC and more!
PHX Based American Airlines, Proud of our Airports progress and continuous upward climb!
Surprised FLL is so high and SFO is lower than LAX and CLT. LAX is easily the worst airport in the country, just as bad as all NY airports. FLL is terrible too, and CLT is dated. SFO is relatively clean and friendly, and the only real issues I've ever had are our delays and our public transit connections
Denver still #1 though
