I know man!! I look forward to all the vods, but the spot history ones brings out my inner nerd and makes me feel like a 13 yr old analyzing skate videos again
out of all of them seeing the pit was most nostalgic, i had flash backs of all the skate videos when i was younger such a hidden memory gen unlocked ,thanks
you guys are like the scribes of skating. lots of people have made documentaries and stuff, but you are the most qualified voice for these spots. hope you make it north and east too
You know I wouldn’t be opposed if you guys had a Patreon where you guys had a monthly fee for bonus content. I fucking love this channel and watch every video when I see one so I would def support it
Loving this spot history like the rest of the series. I was lucky enough to fly from NC to LA twice while in high school (Summer '99, Fall '00). Each time, my friends & I made the pilgrimage to Venice. The Pavilion/Pit were still there in '99. It was a dream come true to be there, especially after the Mouse video being watched so many times. The place smelled like old piss & full trashcans. Insanely lucky to just happen to be there when a few well-known skaters started rolling up to the hubba out back (Jeremy Wray, Pontus Alv I believe) . Then, more started showing up (Erik Ellington, Dustin Dollin, others I can't remember). Then more filmers started showing up (Rick Kosick, Atiba Jefferson). It turned into a huge get-together of so many different pros & teams. It was surreal. Chatted it up w/them & basically sat back & watched. A moment I'll never forget. The next year in '00, it was gone. The beginnings of the new Venice Pavilion had already been created, & it was such a different look/feel to what it used to be. Way before the current skatepark was built. Kinda like a beach plaza park. Chimneys & a few walls still tagged, basically decor in the sand. It was still fun & a treat to even be in LA @ that time, but it wasn't the same as the year prior. Great, great times! Brought some headies from CA back to NC for the homies, too. 😅
I skated the pit once. it was when venice was starting to get exspensive and people were complaining about the genetrification back in 97 or 98. cant imagine venice now. been a long time since i was there. during the day it was pretty chill, but people said to leave at night cause the cholos come in.
Sic that looks like such a fun skatepark. They got little stair sets and little hand rails to mess around and learn some tricks on then u got the bigger stair set and handrail to go big on
This was so cool to find! Thanks so much! I was wondering what happened to the pavilion and searching the internet and couldn’t really find what I was looking for , saw this video and answered all my questions and I love skateboarding so finding this was perfect! Thanks again!
I remember going to cali back in 2002 and being well gutted that the pit was gone- I did paint the wall and have a skate though. Great vid as always dudes
Venice is a hectic and crazy vibe but there's really no other place like it! I always recommend checking it out if you haven't been. Just remember it will be a little wacky, dirty and full of characters.
I skated the pit in jr high. It was really hard to sk8 the ledges were so chunky and round all you could do is noseslide / bs or blunts. 5050 would ruin your trucks lol Still cool nostalgia. The only thing you didn’t mention was the famous curb spot but I guess your focus in the pit area of remnants. There used to be sand gaps and pillars as well. The vid woulda been too long that could be it’s own vid. I think they redid the curb square shape. They all used to be rounded. Rem Tim Gavin noseblunt pop over
I got a cool random Muska story. So we skipped school to shred Venice on a weekday. Muska and homies were filming on the hubba back then. My homie had a handy cam and filmed Muska saying “ Michael you shoulda come skating dawg you missed out bro” Our homie didn’t wanna skip so we tried to make him feel like a wuss lol the tape is gone as no one could keep track of vhs 📼 and there was no where to edit it post it. Wish we still had it. Filmed Muska on some noseslides and warmups. He was all all decked out in his sweatpants and had the boom box. It was iconic. I can’t believe it. It’s like a faded memory now. If we had smart phones I wish lol
The best brothers with the best content & memories. That’s a wild freaking place being from the east coast. Not a dis but a sterling area in California I would love to ride bmx. I know it’s frowned upon for bmxers to ride that park. What ya think?
damn i miss skating so bad. i also wish i grew up on you guys' side of the US! Im over in PA in country areas. wasnt as much options but we made it work haha
Damn, I was hoping for more background on some of the tricks and skaters that sessioned that spot. I got to visit in probably '98, and while the pit was still there, the ledges were in pretty bad shape and didn't even look waxed. Also, all the graffiti there was trash. I remember seeing the spot in the Girl video Mouse, and in that one video Listen with no music that was like 75% Venice footage, and as a writer AND skater, I remember pausing and rewinding not just for the tricks, but for the graff too. By the time I made my way out there, most of the graff was just wack throwups and shitty hands types over incredible pieces. It was super sad. Anyway, lots of stuff they could have gone into but didn't for some reason. Regardless, keep it up, I love this series
While we wanted to go into some history of the spot here this video was was more about our day skating at Venice and skating the park. This one isn’t an official spot history video in our series which is why I’d isn’t titled with an episode number. Maybe someday we will track all the clips down and come back for a proper spot history video though 🤘🏻
@@DernBrothers ahhh gotcha. Honestly there wouldn't have been much to show around anyway aside from the spot since it's completely gone, it would mostly just be old footage, so that makes sense. Either way, great video as always. Would love to see a spot video there, there's been some gnarly stuff go down there. Or maybe Pier 7? I'm sure y'all have a laundry list of spots people request, so just keep doing what you're doing so old men like me can relive their skate past. You guys are great
How about the famous curbs? Natas skated there in Streets on Fire (and A Reason for Living) and so did Eric Dresden in Speed Freaks. I’ve also seen recent clips of Chris Roberts skating there.
Hey guys when you put up footage could you maybe also note which part it's from? There's so many clips I wanna go watch the full part of but don't wanna spend forever foraging for them lol GOOD WORK OTHER THAN THAT 🙏
@zang.will ripping the bowl!!
Thank you! We forgot to ask him what his @ was when we were there so we could have properly credited him! 🙌
It was also in the first PlayStation Tony hawk pro skater

Dern Bros, you're killing it with this spot history series. I can't get enough.

the Pavilion Pit was such a beautiful spot, it looks so fresh to do a line there for your video part. its sad

So I’m guessing the 9 stair ledge is long gone now? That used to show up in a ton of 90s skate vids.
Still waiting for the Nollie tre to smith grind out 😎
This was my suggestion… you’re all welcome
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great vid!
Even though the pit is gone, the spot is immortalized in THPS2, THPS Underground and THPS 1+2 remake.
7:05 shout out guy in bucket hat staring down the camera 😂
Good job you guys
LA has many many great skateparks. Venice is just one.
Circus flip was cool
another skatepark that gets crowds randomly (in summer) is Ojai.. but go any tuesday night for the old dudes bowl jam.
Thps map was lit 🔥
The skatepark outside of the skatepark at Venice is fire tho

Best level in THPS 2
I was obsessed with this spot and all the graffiti.. 411 issue 36 introduced me to it.
How big is that 9 stair? Like 5 feet tall? Imma be visiting the park soon and am wondering if it’s within my reach of Ollie’s lmao
Never new that was at Venice until right now
That music track is called Hot for Preacher

Heard rumors that Andy Dwyer lived in the pit..
I literally shed a tear when the city demolished the pitts.
