America is gigantic and most skaters have never even been to California most likely. I grew up on the east coast a little south of Boston, Mass. From there to Los Angeles would be a 45 hour, 3000 mile long trip by car. Even just to get down to say, Washington D.C. is still an 8 hour drive through crazy traffic, so likely longer than 8 hrs. Most of us USA skaters still view these iconic spots the same way that you guys overseas do!

Seeing that slam at Carlsbad with the credit card initially made me think "wow, these people are idiots, nothing is worth this!". Then I remember all the fun times I had nearly dying at the skatepark trying to grind copings. I also think to when I nearly destroyed my guitar playing hand from a 5-0 grind on a very tall coping that went wrong. I fell into the bowl and bent my guitar playing hands fingers so far back I felt my sciatic nerve grind against my wrist horribly. This gave me a permeant but mild form of carpel tunnel that permanently affected my ability to play my chosen style of music, heavy metal. I could no longer grip the neck precisely enough, and to this day still can't to play that quickly any longer. I can still play fast, don't get me wrong. However, I am nowhere near what I was before my injury and unfortunately I didn't have a RUclips channel nor the self esteem to film myself back then. That being said, I now have a flourishing RUclips channel playing guitar and demoing guitar pedals. I can't play as fast but I changed my style, as a result I make far more money with my guitar solos because they have a wider appeal. This was a welcome side effect but I do with I could both skate, and play guitar at the level I used to. My injury made that impossible and I had nightmares for decades and to this day. I'm a guitar teacher so that slam was enough to make me quit skating for what I thought was for good. I don't think anyone is an idiot for doing what they love but what I found stupid was me not wearing a helmet or a cup! There must be a credit card proof cup right? Anyways, I'm 35 now and this channel has inspired me to get back to the park, albeit with knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, a cup and a helmet. I don't care if I look like a jackass. At least I'll be safe. If that's what it takes for me to not destroy my ability to play, I'm happy. Now I'm staying within my limits and still doing a lot of my old vert tricks. Stay safe out there everyone. A helmet is a MUST.

Holy shit...dude I haven't seen that part where Jeremy Wray FS flips this in, idk how long. That whole video was so good. But his FS flip along with the music was perfect. That 3 second spot all on its own used get me so pumped to go skate. Even now...after all these yrs...still made the hair on my neck stand up. Best time of my life
