And then you gotta think the conversation in their heads about the conversation, Mom. "Okay, time to go." In her head, "Okay, it's official. I'm the worst Mom ever." Kid. "Time to land it." In his head, "I'll end you. My whole life depends on this very moment."
I'm old and haven't skated in decades, but it's content like this that keeps me coming back to the sport - if only as an observer. Excellent work on this!
Me too. Busted my leg in ‘97 and skateboarding went downhill from there for me. I love how there is so much access to content on RUclips. Way back when you were limited to a VHS tape that you had to purchase. Or a copied version from a friend. Now all I have to do is type stuff into RUclips. Still love to watch the progression. People are so fucking good at skateboarding now it’s retarded.
Hell yeah dude, been seeing so many skate history vids lately and I love it. I'm 29, been skating for like 16-17 years now, glad theres dudes like you on YT keeping the history alive for all the kids coming up now.
This channel is extremely under rated. 54.4 k subscribers as of 12-19-2023? That is insane! I'm sure you guys will blow up, just keep making great content. You should have hundreds of thousands with the quality you are putting out. Your knowledge of the spots, commentary, and great skating of the spots themselves is always entertaining.
5:25 that edit lol 🤣 For real though, love these "history of skateboarding" and, or "showcasing a classic spot" types of videos. Just saw one on the Leap of Faith. Good stuff. Seeing these classic bits of old skate videos is hella nostalgic too.
I really like how this was in the style of a documentary. Like the flashbacks to old clips (which I know is a lot of work to edit and I appreciate it!) brings a lot of good memories. Keep up the hard work!
This is when the algorithm is sooo worth it! Thank god for this channels. Such a dope idea for content 👌🏼 been wanting to see something like this since like 2002. (With my old ass self)
When I first heard you all say it was destroyed, I initially thought they destroyed it because they didn't want people using it any more. Then realized it was just for renovation. Pretty cool people got to use it for so long!
Just found the channel and love the vibes you guys have, you guys are going to crush YT and be one of the big dawgs soon keep it up. Its great to see homies having fun and skating just living life, cheers
First time seeing you guys. Really enjoyed watching this. When he ollied "the new carlsbad gap" and had the small image of his younger self pushing along-side him was really awesome. Sort of an emotional moment as I'm the same age and as we all are getting older and still pushing ourselves to do what we really fell in love with when we were young. Subscribed.
Great video. I would always go through the tricks in my head on what I would try down that gap. Its really awesome you had the opportunity to see a famous spot in videos and give it your best shot. So funny hearing your mom supporting you but also fearing for your life. Exactly how any parent sane parent would act seeing their child chase their skateboarding dreams.
First time seeing one of your vids. Absolutely love this format. Seeing all the different tricks done at the same spot and learning some skate history, mixed in with some clips from you guys is dope!
This series is so cool. This kinda content would have blown my mind if it was available when I was obsessed with everything skateboarding growing up. Late90’s early 2000’s. When one of my friends would get a new skate video and we’d rewatch it dozens of times, or looking at a new Thrasher, even getting a new monthly free CCS catalog in the mail was something to look forward to. This is such a rad idea for a RUclips channel, you guys are killing it
Holy shit...dude I haven't seen that part where Jeremy Wray FS flips this in, idk how long. That whole video was so good. But his FS flip along with the music was perfect. That 3 second spot all on its own used get me so pumped to go skate. Even now...after all these yrs...still made the hair on my neck stand up. Best time of my life
Nice vid, I like the spot history and walking around the space to get context. Maybe a Santa Monica Triple Set video would be good. I went there and could not imagine even jumping down them, so damn long, and the runway blows.
Man I remember back in 7th grade sitting in my room listening to my portable discman and doing whatever cool tricks I could think of down the Carlsbad gap in THPS2. I started skating at the perfect time, like 6 months before the first one came out, so those games were my favorite thing in the world at the time lol.
Ocean Howell attended Carlsbad High. I ollied the gap back in 1992/93, by then I was already ollying 12 stair sets and over fire hydrants. I was first and foremost best at Freestyle, then Street while competing with guys like Daewon Song, Danny Castillo, Chet Thomas from the late 1980s through the early 1990s.
8:54 "That's how it goes when your mom's on the set" What a cool mom. Don't know if it was a pain at times or not, but it's better to have her there than not. I can imagine the anxiety she was going through.
Great video. I’m glad I was able to see it in person if only once. Such a classic spot in skateboard history!!!!! I can’t wait to see what spot you check out next.
Jeremy Wray is a BOSS. That water tower gap was insane. He doesn't get enough credit. But by far Brandon Turners sketchy roll up to hardflip was the sickest shit to go down. Major steez.
"Time to land it". Best reply by a kid skater to a skate mom...Great video as always, such an amazing spot with the craziest tricks ever but nothing compares to Coles BS 360 Kickflip. A trick you never see for a reason because its completely psycho and over a gap like that was sick as hell.
Now that I'm 30 and no longer skate, videos like this are nostalgia gold. I will always respect and appreciate skateboarding and it's history. Skate or die 🔥
Right down the street from my house, I skate there all the time, but I ain't doing nollie's over the gaps ect - I am an old man now & 40 years of skating has taken its toll on my knees - Sick Vid, the classical music in the background works somehow- BTW Josh Kasper holy smokes dude !
This is so sick. Makes me wanna skate even more then I have been lately. Skating is such a refreshment & makes me feel young again & shit like this makes me wanna hit more gaps before they get renovated haha.
It may be nothing much for people who live in the US but for me, an Italian skater who always watched videos and saw multiple clips in the same spots it’s really interesting to know the names, the history behind them, all the challenges people dealt with. Keep making these !
America is gigantic and most skaters have never even been to California most likely. I grew up on the east coast a little south of Boston, Mass. From there to Los Angeles would be a 45 hour, 3000 mile long trip by car. Even just to get down to say, Washington D.C. is still an 8 hour drive through crazy traffic, so likely longer than 8 hrs. Most of us USA skaters still view these iconic spots the same way that you guys overseas do!
does anyone out there have a connect to the inward heel slam dude? Jenkem wants to interview him but can’t track him down

Legendary mom/son convo at the gap.
I laughed so hard when I heard it
And then you gotta think the conversation in their heads about the conversation,
Mom. "Okay, time to go." In her head, "Okay, it's official. I'm the worst Mom ever."
Kid. "Time to land it." In his head, "I'll end you. My whole life depends on this very moment."
also the No! and he replied "Yes"! amazing
Hands down the best line of the video
Let's shout out MOM, for being a real one for taking the kids to hit the spot back in the day.
Fr great mom
My mom woulda been like THATS ILLEGAL 😂
@@heyb6268 my mom never spent more than like 2 min watching me skate and i been skating for like 25 years
You guys who got a ride to the spot by mom's prolly the same kids talking about how hard you think you are after mom's minivan pulls away.
@@snavisTM someone is mad their mommy doesn't love them 😂😂
Its not your fault, it was probably the drugs and alcohol 😂😂😂
This is the content people are consumed. Really nailed it on the head keep this format up
Thank you! We have lots of spots we want to do more videos at!
AND it’s the Dern brothers!!! That says it all 🍻👌
very good format I'm not even a sub and quit skateboarding yet I find myself watching in nostalgia
Awesome video I subbed
This was such a rad way to document the history of a spot. More of this dudes! I vote Arco next. Those rails were my dream spot in the late 90s
Good suggestion!
Lets make it happen
I love your content and revive skateboards
Sick that Markovich literally skated the gap until the last second! True skater at heart.
HE opened the gap, HE closed it. 🎉🎉🎉
We need more skate gap history from you guys, cheers !
love to see a love park video
That was sick, you guys know your history! I like how ya'll implemented each of your own personal history on the spot too. Subbed for sure
Thanks for the sub! We are stoked you enjoyed the video!

That switch hardflip from Brandon Turner is so epic. Especially with the run up he had.

Beginning clips all legends but hands down Brandon Turner’s hard flip is iconic 🔥
Even better, it was a switch hardflip. Yeah I'm surprised that dident make their list.
