I'm a grad student and instructor at UC Davis. I walk past both these spots every day and I always say a little prayer to the skate gods.
Nice
Your prayers are noted.
Prayer is useless as farting in a water.
Thanks my guy.
🤡 😂
Duffel is a great guy , always happy and humble 👊
The pride and joy of Walnut Creek. Probably the best East Bay skater of all time.
Yea hes an awesome dude all around. Very kind dude
till he bunched beagle in the face
Until he called Stevie Williams the n word lmfao. (I know he forgave him but it's still funny)
Joslin’s tre flip is definitely legendary
Definitely. But we’re you around when Chief first Ollie’s it? Seeing that back around ‘97/98 was mind blowing. That and his legendary smith grind lit the fuse to the gnar bombs!! 🔥💥
Joslin's make was the most flawless.
nobody heelflip it wait for me
@@jamiegrieve9306 Foy should get that!! Neen is done with the big stuff.
He has a secret trick - two shirts and ripping cigs 😂
But fr that's what he did in the My War 🙌
I went to UC Davis during the mid to late 2000s. That’s the physics building, and the labs are upstairs. Every time I had to go to lab, I’d look down the thing and have my mind blown at how Jamie Thomas ollied it - I remember that ON skateboarding video which had that ollie in it. Then we found out that Corey Duffel 180d it! One day my roommate ran into three Canadian dudes on a skate road trip in 2009, probably and we hosted them for their Davis stay- they saw Reynolds trying the kickflip that day!
Fun fact - just next building are the famous 7 stair rails which many pros destroyed. Mark Appleyard kickflip front crook in his Sorry ender and Guy Mariano’s 270 to tail ender in Fully Flared - that’s the one… We called it Chem 7 cuz it was the chemistry building. Opposite on the other side of Davis Gap is Bainer 8, for Bainer Hall, the mechanical engineering building. That’s the one with the butter ground and ledges and drop-off with the 8-stair rail. Janoski killed that one in his Habitat part. I hucked treflips down it for hours but could never get the full roll-away. Good memories though.
Just looking down the Davis gap as a regular skater - you would think there’s absolutely no fkn way anyone can huck themselves down the thing and roll away, but magic has been made at Davis. Long live Davis Gap!
Also, that drop in that Kanaan did at the end - I noseslid that in 2006 and it was probably the longest noseslide I had done lol.
Thats so cool to hear all of that!
Really informative and interesting comment,I appreciate it
Skating Davis in the early 2000's was so memorable along with the rest of Sac. Very underrated skate city imo. I used to drive 2 hours to go sk8 with my homie at all hours of the day and night. Man this video is like a trip back in time for me. Love this. Your comment is proper. How about the ledge to gap at the bike rack.
Well lets just say that ollie'ing that gap was one hell of a physics experiment
@@josef9001 Agree 100%. It was a special time and skating Sac was super fun.
great video just here to say damn Ryan Decenzo dont get enough respect that dude has ripped so hard his whole career (and still is)
Yeah he’s insane.
Canada sucks bro
@@trixonic6934it doesn't... Even if it did its irrelevant
The guy's a tool
Dude that catch on the Frontside flip was insane, I got goosebumps. Ryan's style is so gnarly
The interviews are a cool new part of the series!
i agree!
Corey duffel has always been my fav skater and as I’ve gotten older and gotten to see his attitude and how genuine he is I respect him even more
I met him in Chicago years ago. He was injured so he wasn't skating, but he was bbq'ing for all the kids and signing autographs. Really really nice dude.
Dude Corey duffel and tom penny are like the only two skaters that never deviated from their fashion choices and stayed true to who they were. MAD RESPECT.
Your right pretty much, I used to see Corey come by my job at Thrasher with his mom to get thrasher gear. He had a blond crew cut baggy jeans and a rugby shirt. But he was 12 so guess it doesn't count 🤔 other dudes didn't switch up either.....like Julian Stranger and quite a few actually.
I had a Corey duffel jacket, prob the most stylish thing I've ever owned
Tom Penny didn't wear oversized baggy clothes in his early days.
@@cannabisPREVENTION my statement would exclude the extremely early days of their careers. The statement is more implied toward when their names were fully cemented in the skate community. Tom in the mid to late nineties already sporting a baggie like fashion and stuck to it to this very day into 40s. Same could be said for Corey duffel.
Tom asta too 🦅
Lol the legend Corey Duffel skating with other legends. Mike Carrol, Guy mariano, Rick Howard and Frosty. What a heavy and historical sesh that must've been. Davis was murdered tht day
This dude was getting a burrito with his friends down the street and just randomly decides to nonchalantly 180 a 20 stair. And almost forgets that he ever did it. What a legend.
That hand touchdown was major... Jamie's Ollie was clean.. no contest.. respect to both but Jamie is a Legend on another level.
the fuck are you doin here lmfao
jollie ollie likes skate vids? legend
The cameo I didn’t know I needed
"one gram dab challenge" 🔥
He's a legend but skaters today are going bigger with more difficult tricks due to natural progression of the sport
The reason yall are bouta blow up is cuz of the effort you put into the vids. Yall lit keep it up
So someone from baker told Ryan not to fronside flip it that's crazy
That’s pretty lame
I thought chris wimer was on zero/emerica
I believe they were talking about Reynolds wanting to kickflip it @@AlexWitkowski
Shows us a little of the inner workings of the skate world we will never see 👀
@@flippinbeastIGwell they don’t call him the boss for nothing. And when a vid part is coming out for a major company, obviously the boss gets dibs at the time.
How this amazing channel only has 37K subs is beyond me. You cover spots better than the old jenikem videos.
You mean janecum?
When everyone is here you'll miss how special it was (millions of spots guys!)
this channel is still pretty new and is growing fast! just in a couple weeks it grew 10k followers! Dern brothers channel is on the rise!!
Bro I been here since they had 2.5 subs. Pretty nice to see them grow! Channel is dope af
Yep they keep it up they already legends and doing it right with footy
Not only did Chris 3flip it but everyone else’s looks like the explode when they land Joslin just sticks it super smooth.
I love how physics and biology just forced him to dab too, like the entire universe conspired to recognize how gnarly the thing he did was.
Probably the best trick ever done on a skateboard
This legendary spot series is so dope. This kinda content would have blown my mind when I was younger and skating was my life. But yeah great idea, great execution. Getting the interviews, showing all the clips of what been done down it so far…. So rad. Thanks Dern Brothers!
Nothing better then a Dern brothers skate spot history video! Well done! I would be so hyped to see a Wallenberg skate spot history video!
I would love to know more about Decenzo getting a call to quit trying a trick. Great video guys.
Seconded. Ryan is royalty.
This is a total guess but I’m assuming Reynolds had already been there to kickflip it and probably told him the situation. I doubt it was as harsh as he made it sound. Ryan probably stepped back out of respect.
@@jonathanborthwick400 makes sense. I was thinking something similar.
@@jonathanborthwick400out of “respect” or out of concern of being blackballed by the skateboard industry?
Sun Tzu Law of Power #1- NEVER outshine the master 🤔
I would love to see a proper varial heelflip down that !
Never gonna happen bud if fs flip can’t be done no way varial heel is going down
@@MIKE2111ful its possible man if they tre flipped it
I feel like Enzo cautela would be the one to do it
As someone who can't help but look at gnarly injuries but always regrets it, I appreciate the sensor 😅
Yeah not trying to see an ankle loosely hanging off that dude's leg. He must of had so much adrenaline pumping through his system to react like that. It's like he's calm about it.
@@10DollarProductionshe said compound fracture so most likely it was bone sticking out of his leg
im from another country, but im have so much pleasure to watch yours videos about the spots. it's very interesting, and it drive me in to the past of skateboarding, when i used to know only by old videos. amazing feeling. thx!
I was scared of the Embarcadero 7 stair in the early 90's & then you see the Davis gap. Insane progress in skating & that is why I still love it & it motivates me in life. The Progression.
Yess, lovin these vids man. Thanks for making them ✌🏼
I had that Corey Duffel clip on my MySpace page as a gif when I was in middle school 😎
Yea dude skate media was so dope back then. I totally different type of æsthetic you don’t see as often nowadays
Especially if you remember King Of The Road I always thought that era was dope
@@AJBuddha oh I memba🥲
That tuck knee does not get enough love
That Tuck knee grab looks so good over that gap. I’ve never seen that one before.
Love these mini Derncumentories!
Love this series but the ONLY thing I would love to see is an actual POV roll up (gopro head mount) to the spots so you can get an idea of what people were working with. Board throw down, push, everything up to the spot. Great video though!!
Thanks for mentioning the scooter tricks as well! I ride scooters and love this video series. Was a bit bummed when the El Toro episode mentioned other sports but left out scooters, but was stoked to hear you guys called out the flip down El Toro and truck driver down Davis gap! Anyone who throws their body at a rail or down a gap deserves respect, no matter what they ride. Keep it up!
To me, Joslins 360 flip looks like the cleanest of everything done on the gap. He lands so perfectly and catches that flip so high with such extension. Beautiful.
It almost doesn't look real! Especially from the side. So big it looks CGI. Has to be one of the biggest bangers of all time.
Type O hi Mark. Best shirt in the world. Hahaha. I coughed my bong rip when I saw it
It's so interesting that skateboarding now has decades of lore and historic tricks and spots...Very little of that existed when I got into it in the 80's
Love that you guys went around the spot, never wouldve known all those jems were right next to eachother. So many memories, well im pumped to go skate. Thanks my brothas from another motha but probably same daddy haha love peace and chicken grease
Ayy thanks for throwing in me in the mix 🫶
That was a gnarly 360° bro!
You guys should do a spot history of the Beverly Hills High School nine stair!
learned something new today; never knew Boss' davis kickflip and half-cab heel-nose slide were on the same campus...
"you were there?" "yeah"
I don't know why but this is fucking epic
David Gravette in “And Now” did that board slide to board slide pop out
In the rain as well.
Love these types of Videos aswell as the scooter shotout
Love seeing your channel grow! Was here at 11k now you’re at 37k fuck yah guys! So stoked!!!
When I met Destin last November, they were at just over 3k. It's really exciting and fun to see the channel grow and the videos get better and better.
I’ve had the honors to skate with Corey duffel at my local multiple times, and live near his record shop too. What a legend!
Man you guys rule, this is one of the best series in RUclips skateboarding right now
Corey Duffel is the man and class act. 😎
Like when he said racist stuff about stevie williams?
@@johnsmith-zf1fdcope harder soiboi
Backflip el toro on a scooter is absolutely mental... I approve of the helmet on that one lmao
Absolute madness! I'd be wearing a full face cos that handlebar is being asked to fuck you up.
I love these videos so much. And how detailed to even add the clip of K man injuring his tailbone! So much perfection w this channel!
Didn’t realize those other spots were at Davis! So good as always fellas👏🏼
Sick channel, sick series.
These spot history videos are incredible, never stop fellas.
This series is amazing!! Keep 'em coming, please. And Thank You!!
Such a great video series. Keep ‘em going Dern Bros!
i just want to say thank you for censoring that lol cause i have broke my arm in half. no one needs unnecessary trauma thank you!!
Yea, that was a particulary nasty break. Even with the censor, you could still tell how awful that looked
@@TheBlakus420 I said this comment I’m at beginning then I skipped when they got to it. That will make people stop skating
@@Hannsom7 Idk about that, but it could def deter someone from skating gaps
Didn’t want it to end! Also I was there with some friends when Reynolds kick flipped the gap. Skated around with Ellington , the whole crew was there!
Jamie Thomas has always been one of my heroes, especially back in the late 90s early 2000s, but Joslins tre flip was the best trick done, to see the way he handled that landing was impressive, had some big time huckers that got folded on this gap, he landed with pretty much no impact which is mind blowing, the dude is a different breed for sure
Yes, the guy is not human, I mean he tried 360 flip down El Toro like 10+ times each on two separate occasions, he's a cyborg
@@NickZoOoR if it wasn't for his trucks breaking he would of landed that too, watched a video about it, even if you watch the original one, you can see he was rolling away and just swerved off and got wheel bite, the impact was so hard he broke his kingpin
Love these videos you guys have been creating! 🔥🔥
And props for including that scooter-kid's 360 barspin, that was pretty gnarly indeed! 😮
I don't know much about skateboarding. But that shirt gets a 10/10 for me.
The Type O High Mark shirt has to be the most niche product ever made. Banger video.
Duffel's 180 down it was one of the harder ones. Landing switch down that gap would be really difficult. Devin Appelo was gnarly.
As a Rollerblader I love the Dern Bros, also good to see scooters getting their well earned respect.
I think 360-flip wins so far. If I ever broke my leg like that I'd be done skating.
I keep telling people about this channel guys! I speak with great enthusiasm too.... *I LOVE THIS STUFF!* maybe the older you are the neater this is too!
The interview part was awesome! Great addition !
That backside flip attempt is insane. What I imagine will happen if I bail more than once hucking at 37.
I'm way older now but me at 37 could pretty much skate better than ever as far as confidence control n tricks and in my mind lol 🤣 like thinking I could bust a trick over something hella big. But I would have to land first try or I'm out for months..... So I never followed through. Had a bad ass video part and song in my head. A muthafuka can dream 😂😇💥💦🤔🤕👍
@@dannysargent1909 lol facts. I’m trash at flip tricks mostly due to bad ankle but I feel like I jump down stuff way better for that same reason - like I am 100% only trying to do it once. You were a little before my time bro I think I started skating in 2000 but it’s sick you’re still skating and sharing a RUclips account with your daughter.
Never stop the spot location videos ever ..that’s all thank you 🙌🙌🙌
Put some respeck on Devin Appelo's name dude ripped on Creature. Great series guys!
is that vinyl behind Corey? what a collection! i lost all my earthly possessions to a flood and since then i trip out whenever i see collections of stuff, its hard to explain. also Joslin is beyond super human to tre flip that thing.
Jaws breaking his tail and rolling away is like his signature move.
Corey Duffel got a legit record collection!!! NICE
And he generally seems cool AF. Do I see PeeWee figurines up there? He's my people
Props to putting some hilarious scooter kids in there… I don’t care who you are that’s still pretty gnarly
This is my favorite series of videos you bros make. Very informative.
Im happy yall are touring these famous skate spots
Hearing good skaters talk about this gap being scary makes the tricks that have been done on the gap even crazier
Always loved skating the pool ledges at Davis!
Kickass information guys, as always 🤘🏼 I severely bruised both my heels and messed up my tendons, but the doc said the skate gods were looking down on me. He’d never seen heel bruising like that, let alone on both feet. I seriously have no clue how Corey could walk for that week. I get landing the trick bc I tried my big drop twice, once to blow out each heel. However, I limped off and had the gf at the time tell me she was taking me to the ER that next morning bc I could barely walk. I say all this bc my mind is blown he walked for a week. That’s a badass mindset to push that kind of pain.
the elevator is a perfect opportunity for a video transition from {The Office to The Davis Gap!}
Duffle- “sometimes in your mind you think- you don’t need to do this.”
Was the best.
Awesome video! Corey is so gnarly
Should be a public service announcement at the beginning of Dern videos.
Warning
If you tryna chill at home and watch a lil tv with your feet up and blaze.
DONT WATCH THIS VIDEO.
Good stuff. I'm off to skate around with my guitar
Hell yeah bros. Sick video. I love the classic music in the background it makes it feel so educational 😆
Need to see this wimer footy 👀
Duffel was my hero growing up
Decenzo, Sandoval, Reynolds, and Wimer all didn't frontside flip this thing. holy shit
Duffel is such a solid person. Love that guy
Lets F'n GO!
Big respect for the shoutouts to other sports on the spots you guys are talking about, some shit is so gnarly it just needs to be mentioned
Jumping the Davis Gap with a fractured heel.... That's gnarly!
Such an iconic spot! great vid dudes
Id be even more pumped that I rolled away if I clipped the curb.
Love this series !!
That gap is effin huge, props to everyone who landed a trick on the Davis gap
“TYPE O HI MARK” 😂😂😂😂 from The Room.
iconic spot for sure!
Love these vids fellas, keep up the bloody great work. Big ups from New Zealand 🇳🇿🍻
Fuck me is that all vinyl behind Corey???
Honestly one of the greatest skate shows there is. This and thrashers My war are the best bro
Best skate RUclips channel, duffel is a legend and I ate lunch with him at Woodward in 2009 or 10. We just ate some cheeseburgers it was fuckin rad!!!
Ollie deck check is crazy 😂
This was my fav episode....so far correy duffel yoooo. Hell yeah. I always wondered abput this gap. Hell yeah thanks for the break down. You guys are dooooopeeee!
I love these history lessons.
Duffman is such a genuine dude
thank you for this dern bros
i dont even skate, i mean i can ollie, fakie back 1, and do frontside and backside boardslides on small rails but its probably been almost a decade since ive owned a board or even stepped on one. so i have some skating background but im by no means the skate or die type. much more of a snowboarder but man im hooked on this series! i binged it a few weeks ago and have been eagerly awaiting the next one! great stuff guys
