I uses to skate hard in the early to mid 2000s and was in absolute love with it. I'm 34yrs old now and on the daily I have aches in both of my knees from the years of slams and impacts from it. After blowing out my left ankle on a simple ass boardslide on a sketchy ass 6 stair handrail, that was pretty much it for my skating career. I ended up having surgery on it and they installed screws which I still have to this day. It took about 6 or 7 months to get back on the board but it wasn't the same. Seems like I had nerve damage and couldn't flick out with that foot anymore. I started to skate more switch to try and compensate but the pain and the anxiety got the best of me and I was no longer psyched to try the huge shit that I would normally do prior. I still enjoy watching the old videos and following up on the up and coming talent. Crazy how far skating has come and how people are becoming wealthy off of it. This dude is fucking sick and is always pushing the bar further and further with his hammers. Back in the days I used to love Mark Appleyard, Chris Cole, P-Rod, Koston, PJ Ladd (Basically the entire Flip team), Rick McCrank, Marc Johnson, and so many others who were killing it at that time.
Hey my man I was reading your comment, I feel you would seriously benefit from the knowledge the knees over toes guy is putting out. I had a lot of knee damage and weak ankles and various parts of my joints from the many sprains i went through from skating and training parkour but now at 31 I will be returning to parkour and skating with full mobility.
Damn I'm 34 too, skated the same time you did. From like 10 to 17...7 years solid, broke my ankle on a frontside hard flip off a pets mart dock....my board snapped the day prior and was using my friends blank with independent trucks and brand new black magic grip tape....that shit was so heavy and the grip was so strong my ankle came down with the board in primo.....that was the nail in the coffin doing a trick I had down like nothing. Now at 34 I've been watching all these beast doing shit like Joslin and it got me back on my board that's like 7 years old with a shit ton of pressure cracks. All my motor memory is still there, 360 flips coming out pretty easy and I grabbed my nuts and ollied a 5 stair yesterday. I'm thinking of just taking it chill and not pushing anything, can't risk injuries at 34 lol. Thanks for your story, Mark Appleyard and PJ Ladd were my favorites and I watched Really Sorry like every day. Cheers my dude! 😎
DUDE it takes so much to Endure what Joslin went through. His mentality while he's going through it is amazing. There is no other way you can handle pain like that any better. Plus he did do it. We can nit pick the landing but he caught it, rolled away long enough and then people can nit pick the rest. It's still amazing
I can't believe a legend like this got disrespected by a punk at batb. He threw the red flag for a good reason. Tyler Peterson the worst sportsman in the history of skateboarding, and the ref should have absolutely nothing to do with skateboarding ever again. That counts in my book. If he would have walked forward to the guys after and clapped their hands instead of picking up his board and going back up everyone would've had no doubt. It's how he reacted that changed the perception that it didn't count but in reality that counted.

So much respect for Joslin on this one, and in general. Got a good attitude about it even though it’s such a heartbreaking landing. Whenever I watch the roll away where he spins out I just shake my head in disbelief.

As a skater, when you can't complete the roll away after the trick, it always sucks so much. It's like you did the hard part, the 95% of the whole sequence, but that last 5% are still vital, without it the trick is not complete. You can see him running back immidiately after the failed roll away, because the feeling of pure bliss was interrupted. He knows he CAN do it, but unfortunately, it has not been officialy done.
to me is a make, the truck broke.... Chris is beast being able to handle that amount of attempts is just mind blowing, it's hurts even to look at it...
Just came here after watching his loss to Tyler Peterson at BOTB13. Joslin has been a beast since day 1 and I’d much rather watch this kind of dedication to skateboarding than someone doing flat ground double flips. 🤷♂️
Anxiety from watching this. Seeing a board flipping around maniacally under his feet while he basically straight legs taps the ground beneath this massive drop repeatedly, over and over again makes me feel like MY legs are being mangled. I dunno how Joslin does it. Insane.
Bro it looks so different, less intimidating with one solid block. Props to you guys for showing the battle on spot. Most skaters have zero clue how much goes into a shoot. It’s not one and done. Everyone takes it on the chin. Even for some of the dumbest reasons.

Of course everyone wants to see a clean rollaway, but for Joslin this is a W. Legendary. He’s given too much to skateboarding and his dedication makes everyone proud to have witnessed this. Counts.
Mad respect to Joslin, nobody is gonna tre Davis at least. People say Nyjah isn’t as much a “core skater” and dude stuck multiple bs flips down this nor is he known much as a gap skater. Those top dudes are all core as it gets because they have to be to get to this level.
I've been to both spots, and I think the Davis gap is way gnarlier because it's longer. It might be 2 stairs shorter but it's way longer and much less run up. Go to both and be your own judge though.
this is a 100% make for me even the first time i saw this go down, the slipped roll away makes this trick so iconic and still my inspiration in skateboarding till this day.
You did it. No else has done anything close to that tbh. Skateboarding is fickle but that doesn't change the fact that you did roll away for 3 seconds and stepped off. I can imagine if we went and reviewed raw footage from everyone this is valid. If a rail or grass stopped you everyone would have counted it. CJ is the 🐐
Only a few percent of humans that could endure this battle of mental and physical pain and passion for something. Just another level, almost all of us watching could only imagine. Honestly imagine throwing yourself down this over and over with a tre flip, the drop and impact of el toro is god level.
Think of it this way. . . if the landing was super short, like it had a wall right at the point where he pivoted so he would have had to jump off the board to keep from slamming into the wall, that would have counted. So there's not that big of a difference. I say that counts.
From a normal persons standpoint, I’m not surprised he never went back. But thinking like Chris, I’ve always been surprised he could sleep at night and never went back lol
So did he end up landing it in the end? Or was it edited? He was making it sound like he got close enough to landing it then shows him landing it with no context a little confusing
Mannnn the side of sports the viewers/audience never gets to see. Most just enjoy the 15 second clips of success.... Not the hours of failing if not years of getting injured on the same spot, same trick, revisiting after healed just trying to land it. I fucking love skating man
So great to see all the attempts, such a shame the trucks let him down. Craziest thing is both Shecks and Nyjah stuck bs flips down it which I’d argue is even more difficult. Can’t imaging falling down that thing backwards let alone down it at all. Nyjah isn’t even known for his gap skating but he stuck like 3-4 and was closer than Shecks. Nyjah said he’d try a switch fs flip if he ever went back. Was glad to hear Joslin compare it to Davis because I wasn’t sure if either was more difficult, they look nearly the same height and length.
Everyone should go out and buy 1 piece of anything chris Joslin merch. Even if you dont use or wear. Just to pay respect for those battles. That was combat
@@Teebagzzzimagine a spot so legendary that even non makes stay in any skaters resume who tries something on El Toro. They don’t even have to land it, it’s so gnarly
That counts in my book (for whatever that's worth). I think it's wild that anyone would say it DOESN'T count just because he didn't roll for another X seconds or Y feet. That's silly. Dude earned that one and should be proud for a very rare achievement. Very few will ever even ATTEMPT that, much less get it under their feet and roll away AT ALL. Especially considering how locked down it is now.
I mean Joslin himself said it wasn’t a true land. It’s heartbreaking because he most definitely would’ve rolled away if his trucks held up, landing was damn near perfect. Surprised Nyjah didn’t break trucks for sticking his bs flips like 3-4 times down it. Maybe because he’s smaller and lighter? Nyjah made it look so much easier than Joslin’s painful attempts which is wild to me because Nyjah isn’t known much as a gap skater. Everything comes so naturally to him. And I don’t think a bs flip is any easier than a tre, maybe even harder with the blind landing.
I know everyone is trying to be positive about that try but let’s not also be delusional. He didn’t land it. That’s not a land. At all. It was close, but close doesn’t = land. I skated for years and I would never count something like that as a land. That would be ridiculous of me. You can be positive in other ways. Like even getting that close is almost impossible. Joslin is the best. I wish he actually did it.

There are most definitely rules
You did it. No else has done anything close to that tbh. Skateboarding is fickle but that doesn't change the fact that you did roll away for 3 seconds and stepped off. I can imagine if we went and reviewed raw footage from everyone this is valid. If a rail or grass stopped you everyone would have counted it. CJ is the 🐐

exactly... there have been more than a few big gaps with a very limited run out of a few feet...

💪
exactly, and there are some big gaps done that are exactly like that scenario....
Top 5 craziest things I’ve ever seen. I new this was insane but didn’t know how nasty the bails were. ITS A COUNT FOR ME

👀

Mannnn the side of sports the viewers/audience never gets to see. Most just enjoy the 15 second clips of success.... Not the hours of failing if not years of getting injured on the same spot, same trick, revisiting after healed just trying to land it. I fucking love skating man
🙌🙌🙌
So great to see all the attempts, such a shame the trucks let him down. Craziest thing is both Shecks and Nyjah stuck bs flips down it which I’d argue is even more difficult. Can’t imaging falling down that thing backwards let alone down it at all. Nyjah isn’t even known for his gap skating but he stuck like 3-4 and was closer than Shecks. Nyjah said he’d try a switch fs flip if he ever went back. Was glad to hear Joslin compare it to Davis because I wasn’t sure if either was more difficult, they look nearly the same height and length.

He didn't bs flip it tho lol
@@Teebagzzzimagine a spot so legendary that even non makes stay in any skaters resume who tries something on El Toro. They don’t even have to land it, it’s so gnarly

Why would Chris Joslin release this on “STORIED”? And why does his landed 360 flip match frame for frame his missed one? 🤔
Come on people
👀
Was he able to do it? YES absolutely! Does it fully count though...I don't know man. I love Joslin, but it's tough to call on this one.

🙌🤝
That counts in my book (for whatever that's worth). I think it's wild that anyone would say it DOESN'T count just because he didn't roll for another X seconds or Y feet. That's silly.
Dude earned that one and should be proud for a very rare achievement. Very few will ever even ATTEMPT that, much less get it under their feet and roll away AT ALL. Especially considering how locked down it is now.
🙌
I think as a pro, you just have this expectation of how a trick should he landed. I do count that as a make, it’s clear his board bugged out
To me, that counts
I know everyone is trying to be positive about that try but let’s not also be delusional. He didn’t land it. That’s not a land. At all. It was close, but close doesn’t = land. I skated for years and I would never count something like that as a land. That would be ridiculous of me. You can be positive in other ways. Like even getting that close is almost impossible. Joslin is the best. I wish he actually did it.
This is some real stuff 😬 I love skateboarding and admire the determination but this was kinda hard to watch. Mad props to Chris 👏

Oh shoot. I didn’t realize he went back and actually landed it. That land was flawless
That was an edit someone made from an Ollie he did down first and one of his 3flip attempts. Looks flawless for sure but it’s fake unfortunately
