- The full story of Echo and Narcissus relationship. Echo had a crush on Narcissus, but it seems like it is an unrequited love. Previously I uploaded the shorter version because I thought I exhausted all the dialogue as nothing new was appearing in about 3-4 runs, but then the game suddenly unlocked their further story. #hadesii #hades2 #supergiantgames

I know his sprite is a placeholder, but I kinda dig the idea that he covers himself because his beauty is like a dangerous radiation that drives anyone who sees it mad

@@camiloquinayasvarela7337It’d be equal parts funny and tragic if it turns out that Narcissus is just like anybody else. Somebody of unspeakable unspoken charisma, but otherwise just another shade in the shadows. The reflection is him, but not for a lack of people like him.
They made Narcissus such a sympathetic character, I feel like a lot of women would relate to him. He's constantly forced to be cognizant of how his behavior might convey the wrong message and has to defend his right to not love others just because they love him, and merely for his looks at that (though admittedly he doesn't have much else to him). He's absolutely right that his suitors break their own hearts, but they blame him for this anyway, and he's shamed for loving himself. It's hilarious that he talks like Napoleon Dynamite and we just see this placeholder art but his circumstances actually feel so real despite how outlandish it is.
Yeah.
And honestly, probably a good thing he never went after the ones who wanted to marry him.
This may sound heartless, but I’m willing to bet it would become a pretty toxic relationship, genuine love or not.
And honestly, wouldn’t be shocked if they kept the placeholder: might just help show off how in love with himself he is if he thinks no one deserves to love him.
Just my thoughts though.
@@CamdenakaNeptunesdaughter1213 It would be interesting also if they use the same idea as the placeholder art, where you can't really see his face, it's suggested but not revealed. I do think they're going to replace it though, it says "Beautiful flower" in his dialogue frame and I can't help but feel that his picture should include some daffodil or something as a homage to the original myth, but maybe with his face turned away or hidden because he's so sick of people harassing him as soon as they see him. It would really sell the idea that his beauty is for him, not for anyone else.
Ngl his level of self awareness is enviable. He cares about others but doesn’t “love” them, making him a completely platonic while blunt and honest font of self-love advice and reflection.

seeing the title i was so afraid theyd just force it to become a romantic relationship, im relieved it isnt so. being a bit of a selfish prick doesn't remove someone's right to reject unwanted advances
I mean Narcissus here seems...like he's doing his own thing. Not hurting anyone - they're hurting themselves, so he says. You could weigh that against the old myths, but Hades 1 and 2 have both smudged those when they felt appropriate. As he stands, Narcissus doesn't feel ignoble, you know?
Narcissus was cursed by Nemesis for spurning a male suitor by not only telling him to get lost, but also handing him a sword and telling to…use it on himself. Which he did. So if he loved himself that much, Nemesis made sure that was all he would ever love.
Is that the true story, cause in the video its indicated that echo was the one who got Nemesis to go after him.
@@Zelapherthe game frequently takes from several sources, I am most familiar with the story op is sharing here but wouldn't doubt there is a version where Echo is the reason.
Be interesting to see how this plays out when the full game is out
I'd never actually heard this version, the way I heard it, Echo was the one who had him cursed, and it was Aphrodite who cursed him. Always interesting and cool to learn about different versions of myths!

@@Zelapher That is the other story about Narcissus, but the one where he gets cursed by Nemesis was the one involving Echo.
Echo's voice actor had a rough challenge, but she really did a great job conveying a lot of emotions through softer repetitions
And adjusting her voice to reflect the character she's echoing!
While he is vain that in itself is his punishment. He can't love others or be truly loved in return
So Nemesis is a dumbass and doesn't know what aromanticy is lmao
I feel bad for him. Dude just loves himself and can't give out any romantic or sexual love that his suitors want out of him. He clearly appreciates friendship but seems afraid that someone's going to fall in love with him and break their own heart over him. A surprisingly sympathetic interpretation of Narcissus. I wanna be his friend :(

It makes sense that he only loves himself though. Everyone in his life likely only favoured him for his looks, and while I don’t doubt it gave him a massive ego, it must’ve gotten very lonely, knowing no one loved you for being you. So it makes sense why he prioritises himself, and why he’s so dismissive of his wooers. He knows why they want him, so he shuts them out and focuses on himself, the only person he can rely on to be truthful.
I really wish we could help Echo out by removing her curse, but in order to do that, we would have to ask Hera to do that since she was the one who placed the curse on her.
Unfortunately that would be even harder to do than to get Athena to remove the curse you put on Arachnia.
All in all Narcissus served his fate, I just wish we could spare Echo her fate.

It would not be the first curse that we've broken- Sisyphus's bindings were broken, as was our dear bard and Eurydice's, not to mention Achillies. Melinoe has just as much, if not more, authority.
@@joemomma2189I'm not sure, considering Hades been punishing them for years, altering the contract of Sisyphus and Eurydice doesn't seem bother him much. However,the Olympus have bigger ego than Hades are, I don't think it be easy to ask them to remove it, especially those mortals they had grudge with (Athena envy of Aranche weaving skill, Hera annoyance of Echo gossiping all secrets)
@@musfirah9341 Maybe, but- the Olympian's officially have no say. As it is said- All in the Realm of Hades are of his dominion. His Authority in the Land of the Dead is absolute. So while it may prick their egos, ultimately their authority over the curses of those souls ended when they inevitably perished. At least, that is my understanding of it, I could be wrong.
Narcissus seems like the definition of a Parasocial relationship with a Asexual.
People who he doesn't even know break their own hearts over him without him ever even doing anything wrong. He is allowed to love or like whoever he wants, and he doesn't like or love anyone except himself and that's ultimately ok. I dont even think the dude IS attracted to anyone, he seems complete asexual at best. And to a extent it seems like he is aware that his beauty is a weapon that he doesn't want to use so he constantly checks himself and tells people how much he doesn't like them. Ironically this ends up causing most of his problems since people take it the wrong way instead of him trying to softly let people know he isn't interested. At least in this story Narcissus isn't malicious to anyone, he's just existing and working on himself and people hated not having his attention.
This really seems like a story where Nemesis really screwed up, if she wanted to truly even things, she would have taken Vengeance on the suitors for harassing Narcissus. Instead her vengeance is petty. Just a reminder that Vengeance and Justice aren't the same thing, and she is a hypocrite.
I think aromantic or aromantic asexual might be more accurate, but this is absolutely spot on otherwise.

It is so funny seeing Narcissus act like.... the thing that was named after him, and people agree with his narcissism.
He doesn't act like the thing that was named after him, though. Or maybe the thing that was named after him took on other meanings and criteria.
He loves only himself, but he doesn't try to take advantage of everyone else to benefit himself (at least here in Hades II). He just wants to be left alone to enjoy himself. That's honestly the best-case scenario of a real-world narcissist.

Narcissus deserved his fate but it’s sad to see Echo still devastated.
well, Narcissus used to be a huntsman till he got too vain and incurred the wrath of Nemesis, who cursed him to love himself only (origin of narcissism)
from that moment on, Narcissus got upset when he couldn't make kissy faces at himself all day and gained an unhealthy obsession for reflective surfaces, he starved himself to death due to doing nothing but watching his reflections
Echo was a tattle tale and she got cursed to repeat only what she heard last time, which made it difficult for her to communicate with others
Echo was one of Narcissus's many fan girls (though she might be the only one that liked him for more than his looks), but Narcissus was cursed to only love himself, so he would never be able to return her feelings
The way I know, if they give narcissus character art, many people attracted to men are gonna fiend over him like astarion in bg3

There's a lot of brilliant work going on here, but aside from all that I can't believe I've never before seen 'Narcissus tells his reflection 'sorry man one sec this'll only take a minute' when someone walks up him" because it is very funny.
I believe Narsissus got curse bc one suitor said they gonna kill themselve for him and he fed up with they so they said then do it and they did or something about his suitor kill themselve bc he reject them
he got cursed because after a suitor who knew him for a while confessed to him, he found it so pathetic he threw a knife at him and told the guy to kill himself, which he did. he did stuff like this regularly to his suitors and was super spiteful with them, this led to nemesis getting cursed.
Why do i have a feeling Echo didnt get her curse cured at all because Melionë thought herself that she didnt need her curse lifted.
Hera is the one who placed it, so she is the only one who can lift it. Which uh…… yea asking her to lift will 100% cause her to put another even worse curse on the poor nymph.
In the mythology, Zeus used her to distract Hera while he did… his crimes. Or while the lover escaped from Mount Olympus, lots of regional variations. In fairness to Echo, she didn’t necessarily know why the king of the gods asked her to gossip / talk endlessly at Hera. But in response to her role as an unwittingly accomplice to his infidelity (since Hera is a victim blamer) Hera cursed Echo to only be able to repeat back the words others just said. Then Echo fell in love in Narcissus, and when she got rejected, went up into mountain / canyon cave and waited away till only her voice remained and became part of the mountains. Basically her story is the Ancient Greek explanation for why echos happen.
TL;DR is Mel can’t lift it, or convince Hera to lift it. But there is a work around- the curse is on her voice, so she could write out her thoughts to share them.

No Nemesis put the curse on Narcissius. She mentioned “divine retribution with no string attached” so that implied she did nothing to Echo
