In this video I chow how to properly replace the screen on an HP Notebook model 15-dy1032wm laptop. Todays laptop screens are being assembled with the display screen being adhered to the top lid with tape. Brilliant fix, Tim! Laptops and phones are becoming more and more difficult to service and repair, however I do not believe it is because the devices are becoming thinner, it is primarily the manufacturers attempts to make it as difficult as possible for users and technicians to do what used to be more straightforward and easy repairs. For example, using tape and glue instead of small screws etc. This has definitely increased the chances of breaking screens, bezels etc during the replacement process. This has been one of the most honest and professional videos I have seen on laptop screen replacement. Thank you for your patience in your explanation and demonstration in this video, your efforts are well recognized. A fellow tech.

It isn't a conspiracy, it's engineers making it cheaper. 100%. They do not care who repairs. Two strips of tape are considerably cheaper than a hinge that extends up the sides of the laptops when you are talking about manufacturing 50,000 of the laptops. Follow the money.

I've always been decent at computer repair, not much makes me nervous about taking them apart. Until the LCD panel on one of my laptops cracked after me knocking it off the desk. I'll admit, the first time I encountered a laptop screen replacement like this, I did exactly what you said... used my heat gun and warped the frame a bit. This video is a GREAT example of working smarter, not harder. Keep up the great work!

Absolutely perfect! Only video i found that showed me the illusive sticky tape behind everything. One note to whoever cant seem to find it. On my laptop (15z-cw100), the tape was only barely visable from below (a tiny tab) and was white instead of black

Thank you sir for this video. It is the only one I found that talked about the tape behind the screen. I had a Duh moment after separating the screen into multiple layers trying to get it off the cover. Life saver! Thank-you so very much. Old grandma just replaced her grandson's computer screen thanks to you! I've never done one before, but I watched your video several times, ordered the tapes, the screen and now it's done. I used nail tools instead of ordering the one you had, worked great. The touch screen isn't as responsive, but the mouse is working. From the looks of the broken corner, it took a hard tumble. Thanks again Tim!

Thank you for this video. I have spent the last 2 hours trying to find a video that would help me replace the screen on my laptop. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the videos that I watched basically said that after you remove the bezel, "Just remove these few screws and the screen will pop right out!" I fought for probably an HOUR with my computer screen to try to get it to come out. No luck. I was just about to give up when I came across your video, and realized that I have the EXACT SAME MODEL. Finally, when you mentioned the adhesive on the back of the screen, I realized what the problem was. I guess what I am trying to say is that a small miracle happened when I found your video. I am not very tech-savvy, and this is the first time I have replaced the screen on a laptop, so having the help of someone who ACTUALLY knows what they are doing is wonderful. I am about to order the replacement screen. Also, I am typing this on the laptop that has the broken screen after I connected it to a TV, so I know it is just a screen problem. Thanks!

I know it's been a couple of years, but I just wanted to thank you for this video. Just replaced a client's screen on one of these, and it saved me a lot of headaches.

Oh, but one thing. On the particular model that I had, it had one of those horizontal retention bars on the screen connector, so people should check for that after pulling off the tape covering the screen connector. If it's there, just use a small (preferably plastic) pry tool to gently lift it up, then remove the cable.

I might attempt a screen replacement for the first time and I didn't know that the screens were held in with tape similar to those in cell phone batteries.
I was actually thinking about using a heat gun on the adhesive but I'm glad to know that I shouldn't.
If my client ends up approving the repair then I will reference this video multiple times. While I do not have the same model, I hope that it will be similar enough. A service manual does exist but all it does is say "remove the LCD" instead of explaining HOW to remove the LCD.

I was about to get out my heat gun when I saw this. I did not need to remove the two screws above the panel. Grabbing the tape was not hard with a pair of forceps and pulling slowly worked great. My computer is now in great shape. Thanks very much.

Helped me a bunch. On my model the tape was behind the two screws at the top. Had to bend the brackets back a bit to tweezer and pull the tape out. Thank you

Thank you, Tim. I watched this video and still thought I was nuts for trying, but with the video at my side, I was able to replace my touch screen. My laptop appears to be slightly newer and I had adhesive around all four sides of my bezel and the curved piece at the bottom of the screen is attached to my bezel, and not a separate piece. But the principles still applied. The plastic shins are critical! Thanks again.

I got this exact same laptop and broke my screen at the weekend. I followed the video and got the screen off OK, pulling the tapes out very carefully. Ordered a new screen from the number on the back of it. The new screen should be here by next weekend, also ordered a roll of double sided tape. This cost me in total about £70 (i am in the UK) that's about $95. The repair would be about £200 -£250 maybe. Great stuff thanks for the info.

It's cheaper than repairs hear that's why when you send something back to the company or do a insurance claim they just send you another one

I'm done paying $2000 for a computer that I can't fix and is obsolete before it's payed for it's self

Super helpful! I used this procedure for a HP 14-DQ1055CL Laptop. There were some minor differences but on the whole the instructions were spot on. Differences I noticed were that the bezel was taped at the bottom in different way and that the strips of tape that held the screen in were only accessible at the bottom of the screen. I removed the screws at the upper corners of the screen but don't think I needed to. Thanks!

Great vid! I ended up not taping the bottom of the trim to the screen, but everything went just like your video. Saved me a lot of money!!!
FYI. If you can pull the elastic tape out without breaking it, and can keep it straight, you can reuse it for the replacement display.
OR you can buy replacement ones on Amazon for a few bucks. Just sayin'.

My only suggestion is to "top justify" the new display when mounting it. I let it sit too far down and I wasn't able to install the bezel. I was able to salvage the sticky rubber bands and re-use them. Great video. There's a trick to every task. Thanks for showing us this one!

The tape snapped on mine on one side. Decided to heat the rear of the screen for a few minutes before continuing as I'm in a cold climate. This seemed to help. Also found it easier to remove the clutch panel (the silver plastic bit) so it was easier to position the black frame first and ensure the WiFi cable stayed put.

is it still necessary to unplug the battery [even if internal] to switch out screens? I remember that used to be the procedure to avoid burning out the backlight chip in the motherboard back a few years. I imagine the most time consuming but proper procedure for this screen is to remove the screen assembly then slide out the hinge cover? just wondering.

I thought for sure I'd rip those sticky tape strips but as long as you are taking care when pulling it's even a little difficult to snap them. Amazing how those work and much better than dealing with glued-on screens. Thumbs up!

Thanks to your tutorial, I didn't have to experiment with this HP screen replacement! One thing I noticed: Those screws up top does not need to be removed because the screen is secured by the adhesive correct?

Just one thing . You took out two screws on the top right and left of the top of the laptop at the 4:00 mark . Then later , at the 9:42 mark , the screws are still removed . Then at the 14:04 mark , the screws ARE back in the top of the laptop . Maybe I missed it , but when did you reinstall the two screws on the top left and right of the laptop ?? Other than that it was just as you showed . Thanks again .
