I thought it was really fun and looked amazing myself. The under the sea scenes were breathtaking, and the Doctor and Yas' relationship developing is heart wrenching. I love that she loves her companions but keeps them at a distance for their own protection.
For me, my biggest issues were… The story not being interesting The Sea Devils being easily replaceable and not very memorable The lighting making a lot of scenes feel fake like the boat scenes A load of editing issues people have noticed And the visual effects ranging from mediocre to BAD (just look at the statue cracking scene 😬) Either way, great video Sam
I thought it was really fun. It did disappoint me on the first viewing but not by much but on 2nd time, it was a hoot. Yes, some CGI is bad but most of it I think is very stylish and that ship, the sea devil tech, the underwater date scene lovely. the convos between the dr and Yaz were brilliant and what we needed. The episode just felt like it was an hour-long and then they have to cut it to 50 mins, that's why the cutting is so janky. And maybe they bite off a little more than they can chew with the fight scenes, they probably have a day to film and rehearsals and I don't think the director has done any fight stuff before. Also, it was filmed in covid. Maybe it was a rushed production behind the scenes, or the script was running over when they filmed and just had to cut cut cut. I know that doesn't justify the bad things in the ep but it does like that's why its pace is off. But it's a fun Doctor Who romp, do I like it more than Planet of the Dead... yes. My opinion :) I liked it 7/10
@joe brooks I mostly agree hole heartedly with u the date scene was beautiful as was the slightly awkward if there was going to be anyone it'd be u but there won't be but much like yourself I feel like it was a bit amiture hours with the like u say cut cut cut and no offence to any of the crew cos it can't have been easy to film anything last year and I'm just great full but in my opinion it felt a bit rushed like if they had waited maybe not quite so much cut work or at the least it might have been a smoother trans gresion from a cut scene to a full scene
Some nice ideas in my opinion. I wish they were explored more, if at all. So many elements just ignored and breezed over due to a break-neck pace which is a common issue with this era. I think a 2 parter would've fitted a lot better.
I admit I far prefer Warriors of the Deep to the Sea Devils for the themes and plotting of the story. (I’ve never particularly liked the Sea Devils as a story I’ll be honest) I rather enjoyed Legend, although I admit it was a major letdown compared to what might have been. I wish we got more characterisation for them
yes, tiss a pity Chibbers can't write for toffee. Such amazing sets and designs. Some half-decent character development. but empty for some reason, a wasted opportunity to tell a better story.
Sea devil's in concept - 9/10 Story setup in concept - 8/ 10 But... running out of ideas so the episode is just exposition, then when all cards are on the table there's a sword fight, big bang and it just ends... meh. All the good hard work undone by the last 20 minutes CC has always struggled to wrap up his plots. For me this episode was emblematic of the last 3 years
Good ideas, great on the small drama moments between Yaz and 13, but the other stuff a bit ehh. It's the usual shortcomings you get from Chibnall's stories and stuff. Though the hype surrounding it probably didn't help the letdown.
The writing was dreadful. What happened to the huge sea monster? I hated how The Doctor came from deep under the ocean like it was a walk on the beach. The keystone didn't make sense either. Plus the sword fights editing was all over the place. I hope RTD can fix this. The coming soon trailer always looks better than the actual episode.
I’m just waiting for RTD2 at this point I’ve had enough of the chibnall era im sorry if this sounds mean but he can’t write science fiction hes better with dramas

It really had the potential to be something better

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I definitely will give it another chance once the sour taste has gone 😅

They should release deleted scenes for this is episode

I reckon I may have to give it a 2nd chance after I've had time to get over my sadness 😂

I would consider this wasted potential it’s a shame because they are good moments I like the tardis in the water

Here's hoping the same doesn't come true for the centenary 🤞🏻

It wasn't great, it treated the Sea Devil's as minor characters

It was boring!
