The main category for choosing which stories were animated is the quality of the soundtracks. S4 & S5 are the best mainly due to Graham Strong's recordings
It's also a very potent era for commercially attractive stories. The first of the two Great Monster Eras along with Season 14 (Hincliffe, Holmes and Horror)
From what I've heard, the Season 22 set is in limbo because the discs are pressed or something in Poland and Covid/War in Ukraine have interrupted everything. So I would guess Abominable Snowmen is possibly suffering from the same problem. I'd also have preferred Wheel in Space to Galaxy 4, mostly cause I'm a massive Cyber-fan :P
I really hope that the animation isn’t canned I think it’s likely that they just announced it for the anniversary despite being no where near done. The same thing happened with the Web of Fear last year As for crazy theories about the Centenary… I think that Yaz will turn evil due to being friend zoned by the Doctor and she will be the reason Jodie regenerates. Yaz was seen with a gun after all
Major update on The Abominable Snowmen animation. A BFI screening has been announced for 3 September, with physical releases set to follow some time after. (Source: Doctor Who Companion/BFI Website)
Yes, the delay and absence of information is frustrating for fans, but also par for the course where the BBC are concerned. Personally, I love this story, because I love the Yeti, but there's also another reason. I was lucky enough to have dinner once with Victor Pemberton and his partner David Spenser. I couldn't quite figure out why David was familiar, and it was only later I realised he'd played Thonmi, my favourite supporting character!
I think they might still be trying to secure new funding, so they're hesitant to announce a release date or say it's cancelled because it could go either way.
I wouldn't stress too much. We're in exactly the same situation as last year. We heard nothing during first half of 2021, then suddenly we had three animations by year's end, starting with Web in August. BBC are notorious for their silence with these releases. The funding would have already been sorted before production, so no issues there. Expect August release date at earliest.
@@teamsonicchannel4400who knows, would be great to complete Troughton and animate Underwater Menace and Wheel in Space. All depends if the Beeb can get new funding. I read on the Dr Who Merchandise website in comments they were working on Abominable's animation as recently as April. So that brings hope for that to be completed by year's end. Also Chris Chapman has announced on Twitter, he's given new Who-ray Doc photos to Dr Who Magazine for August issue announcement, could be next Collection box set or hopefully Abominable.
Up until about a week ago on a few websites here in Australia (JBHIFI, Sanity) had the release date stated as August 8th. Sadly this has been removed and now stands as Coming Soon.
Think it was a perfect choice for animation - loved the surviving episode. I'm really getting impatient for season 22 more than this animation though. I don't know what is holding this up either, but I feel they should say something to those who are waiting - their silence is really annoying and a little disrespectful - is this any way to treat your customers....?
On the planetmondas forums they say the UK release could be or was originally supposed to be out at the end of may, it's US release date was apparently July - September, can't remember which and same for the US release of the Season 22 Collection Bluray, making the american release dates after summer which apparently means that the UK release dates are either somewhere from before summer or during it, unless of course it's all been changed or delayed
Amazon does have a release date for December so we could hear more stuff till then, but hey who knows. Release dates change or get cancelled altogether.
not impossible - there was a copy in the same Nigeria sales package as EOTW and WOF but it ended up in a different city. It could still be sitting in some cinema in that town.
In a way it might be better for us fans if a different backer was brought in for the animations as it's the US Market that's wants the episodes in colour, I'm perfectly fine with just B&W. I just hope we get a date soon for Abominable Snowman and season 22. As for the Centenary episode, we know Yaz is going to get heart broken by the doctors regeneration. Maybe the energy we see around 13 is from the pocket watch, all her hidden memories coming back. I've a feeling we may also see more past companions and doctors.
I have a theory that has no real solid backing but remember how back in February it was reported that lost episodes where being identified in the Middle East? What if the abominable snowmen were one of the stories that the bbc had gotten confirmation to exist so now they are on the quiet about it’s animation release?
I like some of the theories in the comments, but whatever, this is a recon I DON'T want to see filling up my feed with Scooby Doo thumbnails and negative reviews. Because we've now reached a Lost ep that's a personal favourite of mine, from the one great surviving ep I've seen, plus the narrated soundtrack audio which I loved. So I get it now. Seeing a beloved and iconic classic reduced to almost flash animation level, to be ripped to shreds by folks who think the recon is anything like the real thing - yep, I get it now. For the same reason, the fact of BBC America withdrawing funding means that one of my go to "proper" Doctor Who's, Marco Polo, is safe from all that. Great:) Selfish? Not at all. By all means, go check out the narrated audio, engage your imagination, and go on that journey. But whether it's the Silk Road and the court of Kublai Khan, or the Himalayas and the Yeti, I'm fine with these weak AF animations going AWOL for a while longer, thanks. Is my "no offence meant" opinion, though probably not the one you were looking for
According to Josh Snares, it's due to a good number of the animation team all simultaneously catching COVID.
I was just thinking about this, like theres not even a release date for it, they must be working on making it look better or something

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We need to individually write to BBC STUDIOS via their website in order to get a response.

Two days later - on 5th Sept!
We’re gonna need a part 2 at some point 😂

I'm hoping they have a long time to refine it and make it rly good
It’s coming out SEPTEMBER 5 😂 lol. It’s on Amazon UK
I think they might still be trying to secure new funding, so they're hesitant to announce a release date or say it's cancelled because it could go either way.

do you think we would get another 2 animations

just bad comms strategy on the Beeb's part

Didn’t they show off some of the animation at Gallifrey One? Pretty sure I remember that
The audio CD was so atmospheric and great. I can’t wait 😬

It's coming out 5th September - Offical in DWM!!!
My copy has been on order since December last year. I thought that rumours of lost episodes being recovered.

JB Hi-Fi in Australia has given The Abominable Snowmen a release date of August 3rd.
I think it would be a bit odd if they stopped production on it if the Pre-orders are still up.
Amazon does have a release date for December so we could hear more stuff till then, but hey who knows. Release dates change or get cancelled altogether.
Who knew maybe they actually found it would he nice but don’t get your hopes up
.....maybe they've found the missing story !! , ..yeah, I know, highly unlikely.
not impossible - there was a copy in the same Nigeria sales package as EOTW and WOF but it ended up in a different city. It could still be sitting in some cinema in that town.
I can’t believe I forgot that the end of time part 2 aired on New Year’s Day so it didn’t count as a Christmas special, so embarrassing

Even if a new backer is found, I reckon they'll carry on with the colour versions anyway
@@SamThomas_YT who really knows, the BBC aren't exactly bristling with info about future animations.
Music is for the wrong stories (Tomb, Web. Not Snowmen. )
There is little to no music that is even usable from Abominable. So I had to improvise.
@@SamThomas_YT There IS all the prayer chanting.
"Wodgy wodgy wodgy wodge. Wodgy wodgy wodgy wodgy wodge-wodge."

I love the idea of the BBC just slowly backing away from the project cause they found the episodes. However, I'm not very optimistic 😂
WhoStudios I’m not very optimistic either! But it’s fun/funny to imagine this possibly being the scenario 😆¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They lost it.

Strange, then, how no part of anything you’ve said here is even remotely borne out by actual reality.
