    The fantastic tutorial video, Dr. David, I have broadened my knowledge about how to use sources and avoid plagiarism. Here are several synthesized points:
    - Paraphrasing skills are the creation of your distinct work by synthesizing others’ work and crediting their contributions. Notably, the paraphrasing task is not to replace every original word in the sentence with your own words; it is to rearrange original keywords associated with your own words in your ways.
    - In-text citations + reference citations
    + Narrative citation (Author + date is a component of the sentence, functions as subject)
    + Parenthetical citation (Author + date, is put at the end of the sentence, is not part of the sentence)
    - Quotation is an alternative to the in-text citation and should be used in limited cases, such as: (i) to depict precious definitions of theory. To keep an writer’s memorable or succinct phrasing. (iii) To react to the terminology used. Quotation styles include Narrative and Parenthtical citation, as following examples:
    + Authorname (Year) points out, “Quotation”
    + “Quotation”, (Authorname ,Year,page).
    Finally, to ensure the quotation links to with your paragraphs/ ideas/thoughts, signal phrases should be used. For example, Authorname (Year) states, “Quotation” (page), According to Authorname (Year), “Quotation”(page)

    One question about the in-text citations: so if narrative citation is used IN PART of the sentence, would it affect using it AT THE BEGINNING of a sentence or it doesn't really matter that much? 2. Quotation: does it need to be rephrase it with your own word or you can use the exact text/ sentence that you sources as longer referenced and the end of the essay and in-text cited?
    Need to know asap. My first time doing an essay so I would like to understand properly. thanks :)

    Nice vlog David Sir, I have a question, In some research papers we see 4 or 5 or more citations for same point. How do we find sources for writing such citation to support our point and how we can limit for it in terms of the years
    🤗

    • @peakdavid
      @peakdavid  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the question. You are seeing that many citations because (1) a citation can only apply to the sentence it is a part of and (2) any time source material is used it must be cited. Academic writers avoid the constant citing of the same source with this trick: ruclips.net/video/NqPwHKg5lUA/видео.html

    If I want to add a personal quotation of an artist, into my essay, from a website that has been published by someone else, do i need to reference the website sources only? even if the quotation is not directly from the artist website?

    • @peakdavid
      @peakdavid  6 месяцев назад

      Because you found the quote on a website, you have to cite that website.

    I teach English composition in Haiti. I've had a few students submit essays written entirely by an AI chatbot. Sometimes it's easy to detect, but sometimes not so easy. I see this as a huge problem. What is your opinion?

    • @peakdavid
      @peakdavid  10 месяцев назад +1

      Unfortunately, this is another form of plagiarism we must deal with. There are AI-plagiarism detectors available. However, they are far from fooproof. My answer is to have students write their projects in stages, beginning with prewriting.
