    Wow! Totally respect your viewpoints, but disagree on the conclusion. Having both in hand, I find, as you did, that the Mic2’s are objectively better on multiple important fronts. 10bit and bluetooth alone are huge upgrades. I also greatly prefer the new metal case (that now latches shut) and separate pouch for lavs and cords. Anywho, totally appreciate your opinion just don’t share it.

    Interesting review! I can heartily agree on the "foot" for the receiver, as there's no way to tighten it down into a cold-shoe to keep it from sliding around or falling out. Nor can we remove it if we don't want it, or clip it to a cable if the camera cold shoe has a light, etc. I just don't get it. (Hey, @DJIsupportglobal, how about a screw thread on the top of the receiver so we can tighten the foot through the receiver if needed)
    Aside from that, you listed all the reasons the DJI Mic 2 replaced my previous mic,
    - internal record, and multiple ways to both activate it, and see that it's on, prevent accidental off.
    - the bag means I can easily keep ALL my accessories. Yes, the charging brick - like pretty much every other kit - only houses the transmitters and receivers, but the divided pouch is a big win. It can even carry extra stuff, like a third white transmitter, so it's handy when needed.
    - 32-bit float, big step up from mics that don't have it.
    - visual touch screen menu, makes it easy to figure out and use the advanced features. (I will say that the interface is not consistent, in that switching mono to stereo / split track requires tapping ON the setting to change it, as opposed to other settings where you toggle back and forth between two icons)
    - controls and visual status on the transmitter itself.
    - can control the transmitter settings from the receiver
    Negatives:
    The receiver feels light and flimsy compared to the transmitters - agree but don't care.
    The transmitters have clear cases - agree but don't care
    Non-replaceable batteries - I haven't found one yet with user-replaceable batteries
    Charging case is bigger - true, but it's smaller than others.
    Receivers are still pretty big and heavy - true and nothing we can do about it.
    Receivers have DJI branding front and back - true. But I can use a lav if it really bothers me.
    Other advantages:
    Slick method of using the mic plug to hold the windscreen - win
    Clip and or magnet attachment - win
    That bluetooth direct alternate way of using the mic capability - win
    Includes lavs and other accessories, including receiver direct connect to phones - win.
    Noise reduction that is subtle - win
    Charge case also auto pairs the mics
    Charge case also "auto on and record" the mics
    You can hear the DJI mic on all 21 videos I made on the NAB show floor on my channel, and in two of them, there was so much RF interference that I had to rely on the microphone's internally recorded audio- which is why I picked the DJI Mic 2, and recorded double sound for every video, because I fully expected that to be an issue at the Broadcasters Convention.

  • @EmeraldAudiovisual
    @EmeraldAudiovisual 3 месяца назад +6

    32-bit float, bluetooth and that wheel on the RX were the only real improvements here indeed. The noise reduction isn't that useful IMO. And for pairing the set with a camera, there is indeed better mic sets out there. But for pairing them with the Osmo Pocket 3, Osmo Action 4 or the Insta360 cameras these are really good .. but you indeed don't need the RX for that.

  • @hamradioop5777
    @hamradioop5777 3 месяца назад +4

    You must have a very benevolent supplier who will allow you to return goods many months later because you don't like the size of its case, or the design of its cold-shoe mount. The standalone Mic 2 gadgets are excellent, I have four of them and use them with a pair of DJI OSMO Pocket 3 cameras, an iPhone and an Insta360 X4. I also the DJI Mic2 kit and use the receiver with a Canon R8 and an old 5D MkII and a YoloBox Pro. I find having the kit to be a useful addition. When the Mic 2 is linked to either the receiver or the OSMO Pocket 3 the built-in Noise Reduction is often good enough to get rid of or reduce background noise if I'm not editing the video and posting somewhere directly. The DJI pouches are wonderfully made too and the fact you can get all the Mic2 kit including its charging case, is wonderful. I 'label' my DJI kit with a non-removable AirTag holder and engraved AirTag with what's in the bag. I think you'll regret the return. Don't do it.

    What you need is a good old Lectrosonics CR185 system from back in the 90s. The were big, clunky aluminum boxes that ate 9v batteries like candy. They might give you fuzzy audio or drop-outs during live shots, sometimes even when you had line-of-sight. And God forbid the talent drops the transmitter. If one hits the floor, it will have to go back to headquarters in Rancho Rio for a few weeks and cost you a few Benjamins.

    I don't have the DJI Mic 1. The DJI Mic 2 is my first set of wireless mics.
    32-bit float? Cool, but I just record directly to my phone and use that. It's a nice backup. Thankfully I haven't had to use it.
    Cold shoe is annoying when I use this on my phone.
    It's annoying to have to take the receiver and transmitters out in a particular order and at a particular speed (not too fast) or they aren't sync'd.
    Zip-case is too bulky and doesn't fit much.
    Overall DJI Mic 2 has been super convenient though, compared to my phone mic.

    I had a Mic 2 and I have also sent it back. The audio sync drift on long recordings on the Pocket 3 became a real faff. I can't deliver recordings to my clients with a variable lack of lipsync. DJI admit the different clock speeds are the cause - but they say it is 'normal' and they have no solution other than correct in post. I bought the Ankerworks dual mike system as alternative.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 месяца назад

      Out of curiosity, how long are the recordings where you've had that problem? I've been using the Mic 2 with the Pocket 3 for The House Files podcast, but we've been recording at most 30-40 minutes at a time and I didn't notice any sync issues.

    • @uklivestreaming8748

      @@aaronpk any continuous recording over 20 minutes. After 60 minutes the cumulative drift is out by 600ms or so. DJI say is is only 100ms but of course it depends on how long your clip is. It is very obvious to all viewers when playback in QT player or FCP... although playback within the P3 does not show drift. Other users have reported drop outs of half a second - maybe co-inciding with joining of large file size clips. This may have been corrected by firmware update. My sync drift shows on latest firmware version.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 месяца назад

      strange, I just checked the end of a 30 minute recording in QT and it looks fine. This is the audio track from the mic recorded into the Pocket 3 directly. (I haven't checked whether the separate wav file from the mic stays in sync)

    I wish it could auto backup recordings via usb or even via bluetooth to set device perhaps while charging.
    I'd like to buy mic nr3, nr4, nr5 and that they all auto sync via app or something even to manage all extra microphones on pocket3 directly.
    Pocket3 internal mic backup recording if I could automatically use as third mic in sync auto mute when I dont speak as interviewer interviewing two people with the two wireless mics simultaneously.
    I wish built in mic of mic2 picked up less noisy tradeshow people talking type of noise, wish the mic for as cardioid or how its called the type that mainly only records voice of person wearing the mic. Perhaps even to have option type of noise cancelling needed. I see pocket3 setting has some kind of noise cancelling I need to check if that does what I need.
