Ben Barba was high level rugby league star player. Playing for several clubs, winning the grand final and the dally M medal as player of the year. Subscribe
I knew Ben quite well. In my opinion, his off-field incidents were indications of some underlying issues that needed to be resolved, and he was let down by most of his clubs, (except that the Sharks), his Manager (especially) and the NRL, who preferred to move him on, rather than get him the support he needed. Ben was a great player, respectful and humble...and he did not deserve the lifetime ban. There is a lot more to this story, but a good overview of his playing career.
@@tyzon00800 And why do you think that is? Many young players are not equipped to deal with the fame, the pressure and anxieties that come with expectations of modern football, and substances often become a way of self-medicating to help them cope...so rather than looking at alcohol as the problem, it is a symptom...and players moving from club to club because the "jobs for the boys" welfare managers don't understand mental health, or the clubs and managers only want them to perform on the field and be good little boys off the field are a pressure cooker waiting to explode...and it will keep happening. I never blamed anyone, but the people who benefit from players, need to also take some responsibility for players.
@@phuketprivateisland441good job standing up for him brother. All though he is definitely not innocent and has himself to blame, there are other factors that make people do things as you said and instead of getting helped he was left out to dry
@@ronniegauci3843 Not a cop out at all. Mental health makes people do dumb stuff. Not giving him a pass, but being passed from club to club because of indiscretions, instead of getting him help, was the start of the end. This all could have been avoided. And Ben is not the first, or the last, that will struggle with mental health. The NRL, money grubbing managers and ill-equipped welfare managers need to do better.
I'm sure there is a lot more to his story, yes he definitely needed help a shame for such a talented player. I hope he's able to move on in life now and hopefully forge a new a career after playing league. From NZ
He was an incredible talent at St Helens, one of the most explosive players I've ever seen. And yet after he left we went on to have our most successful period ever. Strange how these things work out
Ben is a great player ,one of the best in the modern game of rugby league. He will always be remembered for his off field issues, but leave this man alone. I wish you were in the game now ,you would kill tried forward packs in the NRL today. I remember when we met in Northlakes in Darwin.💥🔥🏉🏆👍🏿You will always be one of the greatest naturally gifted Sportsmen to have ever played in the history of Rugby League in Australia, they can never take that away from you , congratulations BEN .🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
what do you mean "we'd never know his full potential" - HE LITERALLY WON DAILY M AND MAN OF STEEL - he reached the highest potential recorded in history - everything else is just extra , this man done it.
We will never know his Full potential..! Key word full mate! Yeh he won those things, but he should still be playing.. he could have won so many more things… as in his “full” potential

I remember when he was in reserve grade and looking at his stats were unbelievable. It was like when Thurston was a fringe player for the Bulldogs. You knew something special was to come. Off field incidents and personality clashes destroyed him
Nice work. Definitely scope for channels like this that focus on RL. Im a Cowboys fan and was gutted when he never took to the field for us. Hope you keep going and keep improving!
Should've stayed at St Helens. He was worshipped at the club until the NRL came sniffing and his performances dropped. Once home in Australia his off-field behaviour let himself down. Still would be in my best Saints team of all time... 1. Barba 2. Makinson 3. Lyon 4. Meninga 5. Sullivan 6. Martyn 7. Long 8. Walmsley 9. Cunningham 10. Farleigh 11. Joynt 12. Sculthorpe 13. Pinner
yes, very good presentation. Was happy to watch the whole report from start to finish. Baba was such a talent - Dally M and Man of Steel, incredible. I used to love watching him play in the NRL. Thanks for the memories Ben and thanks for this upload.
I wonder if Ben is suffering CTE. Being a play maker and a kicker, would have him taking alot of late hits throughout his career and alot of head trauma. I wonder what a mri looks like with having one from early in his career to now. Alot of his off field behaviour might be neurological damage.
Interesting video...never knew he played for the Broncos and didn't know he played Aussie Rules after his NRL career! On another note, the videos on the playlist on my channel titled 'Purpose of Life?' might interest some people!
When you're an indigenous young talent who all of a sudden at such an early age to be signed on multi million dollar contracts its a situation that most young kids dream off. However it can be overwealming with minimal support. To be constantly in the media spotlight and how to deal with that is something no one can coach Sometimes you just want to be thought of as a regular person rather than this cult personality.
You are correct. But that is where managers, in return for their percentage, should be accountable and supportive and making sure players get all the right advice and support and help set them up financially...but sadly, they only seem to be around for contract negotiation...perhaps if Ben was encouraged to sit out that 12-week suspension and return to an NRL club, instead of moving to France at the behest of his manager...things would be different.

In fact, all the Barba boys, Aaron, Ben, and Marmin, are scintillating footballers. Just brilliant!
One of the most exciting players I have had the pleasure of watching. I hope he is happy and doing well.

Quality channel mate! I saw one and decided to binge watch all your videos only to realise you're new... Looking forward to more like this.
Next you should do the rise and fall of Benny barba. That would go insanely hard!

Alot of players get left behind with gambling and drug addiction
the NRL and clubs push them aside instead giving them the support needed 💯
I would have stuck with him at the broncos over boyd but wayne has his favourites.
Ben was the BENJI, of Australia
This is really well crafted mate keep it up
Amazing video great work!!

i miss him in the nrl i loved him at the bulldogs he was missed there love ben barba
A lifetime ban was pretty harsh
That's the NRL pretending to have taken positive steps to resolve the issue. What a load of horse shit.
good athlete. did it all.
Love your videos, can't wait to see your channel blow up. Could you do one for Todd Carney?
this account is the fkn GOAT. the content is just to good

TBH he was a great player in the modern era miss watching him play 💪💯
What about a video on Paul Hayward, Todd Carney, or Joey? Please.

Best channel about the best game! Been really enjoying your content mate. Up the broncos!!
I like rugby league for my life OK
The Canterbury coach was Steve Folkes not Folks.
i loved ben barba
Sucks imagine if the nrl took him in like how they look after some of these players sucks i would rather ben then Latrell Mitchell
Good job bringing latrell into something that has nothing to do with him. Living on your head rent free

Free Ben Barba! ✊🏽💯
He sold the bag, that’s what happened. In his prime he was and is the greatest individual player the game has ever seen smh
one of the great individual seasons in 2012
I honestly loved ben barber when he played for the doggies he broke me as a kid when he left
Barba 12 😮💨
Media got the best of him
He's game is pure individual just like Jared Hayne but they both have the similar off field issues. I wonder were would they be in NRL history?
Ben Barbara’s potential is my Roman Empire
👍👍👍👍
The tigers could always use someone with talents.
Actually it’s the rise and fall and the rise of fall of Ben Barba
He has always been a loose cannon ask anyone from Mackay bet you now he is the first to say he blew it and it’s his own downfall
What happened was that he got chased down by a 43yr old Brad Fittler in 2013 at the Auckland 10's. Then scored a 70m try on him. Case closed
2018, what a great ye.
What if barba never left the doggies

I love NRL, but it is so disappointing that some of the great players are so hell bent on self-destructing!
Unfortunately the NRL failed to resolve underlying issues
I'd would Of thought those people @the head office could of at least tryed
Cronulla Sutherland Sharks are forever in his debt.
Druuuuugs man
I don’t talk too much about him
Why is it that babar never played the state of origin in his prime?
He was slippery as an eel nobody could tackle him ..
The video highlights don't match with the stories so please do a better job in your next story. I enjoyed the video though.
Steve Folkes is the correct name
I can't spell folks ,but I can spell your name is idiot 😅😅😅
Alcohol and rugby league goes hand in hand.. which is sad. Alcohol is a dangerous drug.
No it's fukin not, it's only dangerous to people who are fuked anyway
Alcohol and fuck ups go hand in hand
Ben is of bad character.
Has proved it over and over again.

How you win, fullback of the year, dally M medal and most tries for the year, man of the match all star game but not make it to QLD side 🤦🏾♂️
his brother was a standout player, he wasnt
Not life band 🎉rubbish 😒 ka.pai
Tries, not trys
