So you're comparing a team player like Andrew Johns to a single minded hero superstar player to "save the day", why as NSW do we keep doing this to ourselves.

I agree, I suspect Joey's work ethics eclipse Latrell's... even with all the hangover's he would have been training/playing with.

Agree. when you watch the 2005 documentary, Joey returns, runs training, controls the game and brings the very best out of everyone. Latrell is a special and very talented player but is no Joey. NSW don’t need a saviour they need team cohesion.

Great yarn about Joey. Overall point made well. Irrelevant to Mitchell because he has never approached anything like the capacity to consistently perform in big games that Joey was able to muster.
One nitpick. Matty got his facts wrong and sadly the Fox Sports nufties just showed a game from a completely different season to back up his claim ("I think it was the Suncorp opener"). The game the footage is from is Rd 12 2003, and the editors must have known that.
Johns came back from the broken jaw against Brisbane in Newcastle ten days before origin and did not play well at all, he threw an intercept to Dane Carlaw and the Knights were outscored 24-6 in the second half. It's even more impressive that he got plucked from nowhere and dominated.
Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, they say, but you should never let made up figments of your imagination ruin a good story either!

    Hi Matthew
Love your show, your funny guy and know the game inside out.
But in my opinion you can overplay your hand sometimes with too much deep thinking, analysis, science, theories and data.
I think you have goofed up big time with your views for Origin 2
Please leave the Blues side as it is, you keep forgetting NSW played 90% of the game with 12 men.
Its impossible to win at Origin level with that stacked against you.
    Keep the side the same.
Nicko Hynes MUST remain as the half. Deserves his place in Origin 2 like all of them because the side was one man down for 90% of the game in Origin 1.
Matt Burton is an automatic and logical selection to partner Stephen Crichton. He was on the bench in game one.
    They know each other's game.
Matthew, but now you want to leave Matt Burton on the bench as a 14 and therefore you are copying BIlly Slater.
More or less, you keep saying how Billy got it right !
Matthew, leave it alone, don't go making pivotal changes just because Billy got it right in game one.
Same squad as Origin one, Matt Burton comes into the centre position to replace Joseph Suali.
Providing above takes place, I expect NSW to win game 2 and 3.
Thank you for allowing me to have my say.
    Cheers
