If you watch Jade's Ernie Ball String Theory video, he addresses how thin a band's sound can get during a live performance and his solution has always been to play chords as often as he can with ample distortion just for the power of the sound. He's honestly a genius for not only finding a way to fill out the sound while maintaining the same sound between the record and live, but for keeping AFI's music fresh and evolving despite having this restriction on his playing. He's probably had to learn so many new ways to play the guitar just to keep coming up with new riffs and he's a certified rock legend because of it.
The hot topic era of AFI is so forgettable. Anything post 2001 is pretty cringe, they were a great band at one point but they played into the scene of the time.
I dont think he can really scream like he use to because he did damage to his vocal chords years ago. That's also why he stopped screaming as much on later albums.
LOVE SILVER AND COLD IM GLAD THEY PLAYED THAT LIVE. HE DOES A GREAT JOB ON THE CHORUS. THEY WHOLE BAND HAS IT TOGETHER ❤. THEY HAVENT CHANGED I MEAN THAT IN A GOOD WAY FOR A BAND TO BE TOGETHER THAT LONG AND SOUND THE SAME IS IMPRESSIVE.
Davey Havok, one of the most consistent live vocalists out there. Always so good. A little pitchy at this show and some higher parts are missed and/or flat but what do you expect when someone is fresh out of vocal surgery and recovery? Fantastic show, fantastic vocals for what he was able to do there, and overall really fun to watch.
@MuchSpice i never said it does. in fact, i agree with you. i don't think my comment contradicts that in any way. i prefer bands that tear shit up over bands that are overly focused on delivering a good performance. i ESPECIALLY love bands that can meet in the middle and tear shit up while also sounding fucking amazing, like AFI does here and pretty much always.
He is consistent in being an average vocalist, not much else. Through his entire career he has never been a good live, how can you call it "always so good" is beyond me.
Instead of constantly complaining about their new music (which is great, blood album is one of their best) why can't older AFI fans just appreciate how hard AFI worked to give them music through decades of songwriting that still stands the test of time that they can go back to and listen at any time?? Lije ok we get it you don't like the new stuff, then listen to the old stuff! AFI has been around for fucking decades, and they've always delivered, so let them make whatever music makes THEM happy. They made music for you for so long, now let them make music for THEM.
This has to be the best live version of Dancing Through Sunday they've played after Davey's vocal surgery, absolutely smashing! Not so much for Miss Murder tho.
God bless and keep the sound real and bless the honest good people that work enough to understand that love is real and cool and fun and sound and cool and Jo. Amen.
Anyone remember when AFI "fans"didn't constantly bring up how their first two terrible full lengths were supposedly the best thing they've done and boo hoo "they used to be punk"? Give me a break. They are still amazing. Go listen to Pennywise to hear a band who never challenged themselves and repeatedly put out the same album over and over.
Mark Shadows I don't enjoy AFI's stuff post Sing the Sorrow, but I agree that the people that whine about it incessantly are irritating for sure. Personally, I feel that their new stuff lacks the intensity of their early punky stuff, and I don't care for the way Davey sings now. In my opinion AFI peaked back when Davey was copping Danzig's style and had that great high, manic yell going on. But it's all a matter of taste. Complaining about it isn't going to force the band to release another All Hallow's EP.
+Joseph Hamer definitely. I actually can still handle decemberundergound but after that no. However look at the bonus tracks on Crash Love Deluxe. There's a demo from sing the sorrow and decemberundergound sessions.
God help my family understand suicide and keep it under control. Amen. God bless and God bless. Amen. God bless and God bless. Amen. God bless and let's move on. Amen. God bless us and keep the ball rolling. Amen. God bless us and God bless and God bless.
Jimmy Smith When he got surgery on his throat, he really couldn't hit this high notes any more. Also, when you become older her voice matures more. AFI will always be a band that will move forward on each album they make. I personally didn't like a couple of their new ones but they are challenging themselves and I can't put them down because of that. Also, the fact that most of their new albums are better than what is out there now.
Patrick Cushing I wasn't aware that he had surgery on his throat, that makes a lot more sense. I was going to say, for somebody who supposedly lives such a healthy lifestyle, his voice shouldn't change that much in 20 years.
Feel like this is actually just a comment indirectly stating that Sing the Sorrow was an absolute masterpiece. I would tend to agree but still love DecemberUnderground as well.

I cant believe they have abandoned a bunch of early stuff. I get it bands change and move on but art of drowning their last nitro record is all but forgotten except days and that is an amazing record that represents the true afi sound. Now they aren't even punk and are lame.
Have you seen their recent set lists? Within the past 2 years they have played greetings and goodbye ever and a day sacrifice theory wester a story at 3 and lost souls dude. They still play a few of their stuff when I saw them they played lost souls despair factor morning star. People complained that they change but it's a good thing. There is only so much punk you can do before all your songs sound the same.

I've always been impressed with how Jade and Hunter are able to fill out the sound since they're basically a three piece band.
Damn it feels good to revisit this era

Davey’s screams are underrated, wish he did it more
I dont think he can really scream like he use to because he did damage to his vocal chords years ago. That's also why he stopped screaming as much on later albums.
I sat next to Davey H. At a Morrissey concert. He rocks!!

When suddenly… Brownie Bottom Sundae!
Why are Hunter’s back up vocals so grungy? Never heard him do vocals like that.
Very nostalgic
Davey may not have the best vocals during this performance, they are good but i love how much energy they put into the show and o me that is a show
He sounds amazing breh wtf
