Yeah man, AFI always had the rep of being the best live band in the punk-ish scene and I remember not believing it until I saw it myself. Wasn't even big in to AFI, but goddamn, they're amazing live. Happy 4 years later!
Saw them live in Kelowna in 2000. They headlined an amazing show at Stageworks on Ellis. I was 16, went to the show against my moms wishes and had an absolute cathartic experience. We were front row, it was far too loud for the venue and I had never been sweatier and hot dog, if it wasn’t the best concert I’d ever been too, and still, have ever been too. They were touring on the Art of Drowning and it was absolutely a defining moment of my “coming of age”
+Vampiric Anemone no not really. He can't scream anymore (or like how he used to) he had few surgeries even before DU was released. That's why he might sound off in most 'newer' live shows. Davey can't sing like before :( it's sad.
Doing concerts every night or second night is going to put strain on his voice when doing a tour and therefore some performances will be a little weaker than others but there is plenty of videos of both AFI 2014 and Blaqk Audio after the release of their second album where he is singing perfectly fine and screaming. Every performer has their off days. He is one of the few bands that have been for around for that long that can still sound like they did in their early records like Black Sails in the Sunset through DU to Burials.
he performs the same way now xD just less energetic, still goes and stands w his back to the crowd being flamboyant :') he's been wearing shorts and legging atm though which is just terrible haha the bridge of miss murder is so sexy I can't lie 😂 I was dying when I saw them live and that part came up. davey actually nearly ended the show but the drummer looked at him as if to say "where are you going? miss murder next!" i know they must be sick of it after all these years but he whole crowd screaming the words, it was electric. truly a magical few minutes for me, felt so connected to them and everyone in the room
