How I miss the old AFI. I still listen to them today and think their music is great, but I miss their hardcore early years.

Michel Blanco Man guys I'm sorry you couldn't I saw them around 2 weeks before on this tour, but seen them before as well. There will never be a band like them during this era. The intensity would drive you rabid. I still love AFI but this is when they were at their best!

Michel Blanco oh man late 90s I went to so many good punk shows. Guttermouth, No Use, Millencolin, 98 Mute, and many many more. Such a great time back then. Sorry you guys couldn't be there for it.

I have that afi pumpkin tattooed on my hand. This era of AFI had a huge impact on me.

I remember going to AFI shows back in the day all the time. The first one I ever went to was on this tour and almost identical to this set. They were out of this world at that time. It was almost like a religious experience then. The energy, the love, the aggression was ridiculous. And Davey was like the preacher. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I am so very thankful that I was there at this time. It changed my life.

When he's talking to the crowd he seems to be enjoying himself. These AFI shows were the best. So much effort and energy. Wish I could go back in time :(

This is my favorite era of AFI, they sounded like a pissed off version of the Misfits. I still thoroughly enjoy their most recent one though ;)

this is the band that made me my taste in music and kinda thrust me deeper into underground stuff. i miss this band so much but artist change and i loved decemberunderground and crash love but i will always love the fall children and art of drowning (still my fav cd ever). despair faction for life lls
there's that. I used to wonder the same thing and we have to think about it like this: we probably don't look, feel, dress, and sound the same way we did 10 years ago, so naturally AFI's art is also going to change as they grow.

yeah i was here...but yeah after 2000 art of drowning they did that gay HIM type goth girl gay skinny loser boy bullshit i literally grew up when they started on this band like misfits/sahain, his other album he did son of sam too...what a shame he changed his respect loyalty...

psychoXdown kid samhain is danzigs 2nd band he wanted a darker vibe than misfits jerry only hated the earth ed album style but danzig wanted darker songs so he broke up made samhain kid! son of sam is a play on samhain as davey grew up and was highly inspired by danzig era misfits/samhain! danzig even did vocals on son of sam album but wanted to go uncredited, so what are you tryin' to yap to me here kiddo?? i know all this shit...
Disturber93 Saw them when they were touring Sing The Sorrow, that setlist was a nice mix of their old stuff and the odd one from that album. But you could see the direction they were going in.

They're all in their mid to late 30's. I saw them on the Crash Love tour and they still had just as much energy and even played songs from AoD and earlier.

They still play God Called In Sick Today, Wester, Totalimmortal, A Single Second, Ever and a Day, Days of the Phoenix, Over Exposure, The Last Kiss, and last time I saw them they played Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, 6 To 8, and Ny-Quil.
@Dustin795 - I totally agree with you. I look at it this way. Keep in my mind what you see in this video is the band 10 years ago - at a time when they were still 'underground'. Now that the band has a more maintream, commercial audience if they played these songs & performed them the way they do in this video - I'm sure they OR their mgt might feel it would frighten away some of that new audience. I worked in the industry for many years & trust those things are considerations.
I'm so glad this video exists! This is very similar to the first time I saw them and that show changed my life. But, Davey didn't have that lipstick on, thank god.

My god I miss these days! Back when shows were fun... now its just a bunch of fucking kids filming on their phones! Im just glad I saw them a few times when they were still this band and Davey still had his voice! I dont know what this version of AFI weve seen for the last 12 years even is

He can pull off AOD stuff cause when I saw them in '09 on the Crash Love tour they played Wester, Days of the Phoenix, and 6 To 8. They also did Love Is a Many Splendored Thing and Ny-Quil so I was pleased to hear those older songs. But honestly, a lot of the stuff from Sing the Sorrow is challenging on a vocal standpoint and he can still do all that which is great.

it also has a lot to do with them growing as people and musicians... no matter how good the songs are, it'd get really boring playing the same songs every night for years. you'd want to play your new songs.

@Dustin795 That's what I always say, but honestly if he did sing them he would probably put no effort into them because apparently he doesn't want to sing those wo's( or however you spell it lol) anymore. :(
a) those songs aren't shitty; they're just not punk.
b) every time i've seen AFI - spanning from 2002 - 2009, they've always played at least 3 or 4 old songs, i.e. No Poetic Device, Self-Pity, Totalimmortal, Hearts Frozen Solid..., The Despair Factor, The Nephilim, Perfect Fit, etc.
c) almost every musician is more excited about what they're currently writing/playing AS more experienced musicians rather than songs they recorded and toured extensively on, namely those that are a decade plus old.

I think people just need to remember that they aren't the same as they were ten years ago (13, actually)... So why expect AFI to stay the same? They're not in their twenties anymore, they're all not so far off 40, I think it's pretty ridiculous to expect them to want to play the same music they were playing back then.

I just don't understand why don't they play these songs live anymore... they just stick with Girl's not Grey, Miss Murder, Leaving song pt 2 and some other shitty ones. Clearly these songs have the most energy and from the looks of it are fun to play... yet they still play the songs that they hate playing. I know that Davey had vocal surgery, but still I'm pretty sure he can pull off most of AOD. BSITS and SYMOYE are a little harder to sing.
I knew it so why would they sell out,well sell out it a harsh word but I been following them forever man, and I just can not force myself to listen to crash love and now burials, & a very limited amount of du,I am totally bummed i went to the concert not far back at lb convention center and it was the worst show i ever went to little kids a goth teenage following,I was about to leave,but love the punk that I was hoping they would play never came, Just sad to see them conform but dont blame them!

hey nofx are not idiotic, your condradicting yourself, and I love afi but do not support this new sound, I respect it but it sounds like their label told them what sound sells, but the lyrics are always great but their sound is foo fighterish, mainstream, I will always love them hell i have tats all over from them but its sad to show pple cuz they think of this new afi crap when they see it! and im 34 so i was their in the pit now i do not go at all cuz i know what they will play!
