Its so rad watching Chino, my all-time vocalist, talk about a band that he loves, when I'm such a big fan of The Cure too. Will never get over Deftones' cover of If Only Tonight I Could Sleep - never fails to transport me to another world.
Jamie Chipps Hell yeah man. To me no one tops Chino vocally, never fails to give me goosebumps. But in my opinion no one can top the Deftones in general. And you are so right about their cover of If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, absolutely mindblowing. Interesting side note about that performance, as Chino said it was for when MTV did an episode of ICON for The Cure, and afterwards according to Abe I believe, The Cure told them they were the ONLY band that actually did them justice. To me that says ALOT about how talented they are.

Seeing these two men brings so many emotions to me, both of their bands changed my life and I've followed them for decades.

Damn. I've gotten so much older, but I've liked Deftones and AFI since I was a teenager. They're such different bands with different sounds, but it's awesome to see the respect they have for eachother. Davey and Chino are both great dudes.
Davey's jaw line fascinates me. I've loved AFI for the past 14 years and it's crazy how tiny (but ripped) he is now.
Ahahahaah same here! Yeah true he used to be so big (upper body) and it looked good too. I just prefer his overall look back then but he aged amazingly well

They toured together in the UK a few years ago. Saw them together in Glasgow and it was absolutely amazing!
Deftones, Anti-Flag, Rise Against, AFI, August Burns Red, Killswitch Engage, Whitechapel and As I Lay Dying. That would be a great large tour no one saw coming, and would be such a massive success. Have it be an all day event 12 pm to 11 pm. 45 minutes for each band to play.

I have tried to talk up AFI to some of my musician friends, but they aren't into it. Like the Deftones, either you are willing to get it or not. Both bands can be easily simplified as far as there early offerings, ie, new metal, post punk, but they also are rare examples of bands who evolve with every record and are brave and creative in the sense that they will take risks to explore new musical scenario's. I have great respect for both of them, and of course I have my favorite era of both of them. What I respect is that they are not doing this for me, or money, or anything other than there musical integrity. A band willing to challenge fans. Both Deftones and AFI fit that description. STEPH and JADE are particularly inspiring, they are looking for new sonic landscapes, as a shitty bedroom guitar plunker I have great admiration for both.not quite unsung hero's but close.

I think we all did that back in the day with cassette tapes. You would play the tape and pause it to write down the lyrics and sometimes would have to rewind it 100 times to figure out what the singer’s saying hahaha. Takes me back.

I bought Cypress Hill's Black Sunday on cassette from a gas station for like four dollars back in the day. We didn't have any music stores where I grew up so we had to just get what we could when we could.. I got Around The Fur from the same place later on. Man, good times.

I remember I got to go through the backstage entrance into Warp Tour years back. While walking through the backstage area there was a weight bench and Davey and a few others were there working out. I wish I could’ve asked him for a picture or autograph.
