It’s so the cameraman can get a decent angle with only Chino in it. This is an unedited interview, if it were in the film you wouldn’t see or hear The interviewer
I have viewed and read interview after interview through the years. ... and one band comes up 95% of the time as a major influence on bands from 90s thru early 2000's. FAITH NO MORE!
What I love about this interview and about Chino is that he shows different some rock and metal fans come from different backgrounds and environment of one's upbringing can also influence you
I just found a concert from them from 1992 I had never seen the other day. These guys were on top something special from the start. Been a fan since 95. I call musicians like these guys "puzzle piece players". Meaning that each of them make up a very definitive piece, but only until they come together do you see the whole picture and its greater than the sum of their parts. Abes drumming is so distinct with chis grooves, with chinos haunting voice, and stephens incredibly unique guitar playing that is straightforward but unlike anyone else.
Seen chino in various bands 8 times now. Crosses being the latest and best because of the small venue and proximity to the action. Love the Deftones as it's music forever changed my life. Btw Mike Patton is the best vocalist ever🤘
Ive always thought its strange to lump Deftones with KoRn and LB. The only thing they really have in common is gaining popularity during a similar point it time. But out of the 3, I still listen to Deftones all the time and still play their music on guitar.
One of the most consistent metal bands around. Honing their sound, never jumping on trends and bandwagons. Even their worst album Gore would be considered other people’s Magnum opus. Why they’re still not on metal-archives baffles me.
The Deftones are my 2nd favorite band. And Chino is my 2nd favorite vocalist. And may I just say. Deftones are definitely original. When you hear their music. You know it’s them.
aww he said prince. that just made me love him even more 💜 i’m also really glad they stuck to their guns of separating themselves from others because they really do have a much different and better sound.
I love that Chino and I are the same age and loved these bands at the same time. When he talks about listening to Morrissey all through high school and I’m like we are the same person 😂
I don't care what people call them or label them as. I grew up listening to Deftones.....and Deftones are in their own category. It's called ORIGINALITY. They didn't copy or try to be something they aren't. Love this band and always will!!
Change by deftones listened to that when I was high asf and I was like holy shit who is this I was just listening to music in the radio got hooked on them
I wonder if the song, "My Own Summer" dealt with any of the Deftones turning down the spring break event? Maybe the title of the song deals with that and not any of the lyrics?
That's one of the things I've always liked about Deftones was their sound and how they weren't afraid to experiment with different tones, expressions, etc. Each album has a life of it's own and are vastly different to one another. In contrast, bands like Korn have always stuck to their signature sound and never really bothered to try something new either because they knew that churning out the same shit would make them $$$ or maybe they just got complicit with the music industry. Deftones has always been doing their own thing regardless of current trends in music and that's what makes them special. We need more of that kind of energy with music today, take inspiration from hundreds of different genres instead of just repeating what's popular.
What? Korn changed in Issues and became a stupid generic pop rock band, forgetting their strange and ecletic roots, and Korn was better instrumentists than Deftones.
Just his soft melodic vocals are different from all metal/nu metal, let alone the way they experiment with music. Maybe it should be called experimental metal or art metal. Be blessed Mexican brother, Camilo Chino Moreno.
I'm the snobbiest of music snobs and always have been. At age 34 I'm finally learning to stop being a jerk about it, but with music being one of my only interests since I was a little kid, I like to believe I have cred. “7 Words” and “Bored” came out when I was in 7th grade and they tickled my fancy like nothing I had heard before. Meanwhile, my big brother had the first Korn album and even though I thought I should like it, I couldn't stand to listen to it. A short time later I stumbled upon Sepultura's "Roots", it blew my young mind and over the next few years I got really into underground 80's and 90's metal; while continuing my obsession with new wave/post punk and 60s/70s rock. That was about the time Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach and Linkin Park became big and all my friends were crazy about them, but I wouldn’t shut up about how awful I thought they were, and how it sounded like some kids pissed off because mom burnt their toast. I've never thought Deftones belonged in the nu-metal category, and being aware of how terrible and gimmicky the movement was, its kind of an insult to include them. It always seemed that Deftones made authentic music, that just so happened to be heavy because it was appropriate and it fit, while the other bands sounded like they were trying to peddle cheesy, forced material via heavy delivery in a shock value approach. I know that's just my opinion and I know some very respectable people who appreciate some of the nu-metal bands. Anyhow, that's story time, Tang and Rice Krispie squares on the back table.
augenmaugen It's funny because it's like there's a trace of insult that comes with the term nu-metal, like when you say Jew, it almost sounds like you're trying to offend somebody. I guess I never really thought about it when it came to The Deftones, but they didn't come off as hokey as the other nu-metal bands did. Not as Hot Topic, teeny-bopper.
And that decision was dope, I so love mini maggot. I love how pink maggot, the last song rolls right into mini maggot, and the whole album starts again. Thanks you deformed I grew up with your music. I’ve boughten that cd 7times over.
I never ever put the Deftones in a category with Korn or the rest of those bands. I think the Deftones are head and shoulders above all of them. And they’re still killin it to this day!

CHINO is incredible vocalist ,Deftones have unique music style , and also Chino got unique swag , I like his clothing style
Brilliant in their authenticity. Favorite band forever.
Chino speaking the truth,he's making a lot of sense in this interview, he's a smart and talented guy, hence of the success!
Faith No More really is the father of our favorite 90s and even early early 2000s metal bands
Deftones have made a series of good choices that have kept them in the game. They are still relevant to this day and every album is an evolved version of the last one. Ive been a deftones fan for the past 20 years and im proud of it.
why are they standing 10 ft away from each other
XDDD
Nunya Stieger Chino farts during interviews, it’s his nerves
Yeah, makes for an awkward I terrier I would think. Chino seems uncomfortsble...put on the spot.
It’s so the cameraman can get a decent angle with only Chino in it. This is an unedited interview, if it were in the film you wouldn’t see or hear The interviewer
Nunya Stieger they’re leaving room for jesus
Chino IS a beautiful artist 💗
I have viewed and read interview after interview through the years. ... and one band comes up 95% of the time as a major influence on bands from 90s thru early 2000's. FAITH NO MORE!
What I love about this interview and about Chino is that he shows different some rock and metal fans come from different backgrounds and environment of one's upbringing can also influence you
Never once thought of the Deftones as nu-metal. The Deftones are their own genre.
Fun game! Take a shot everytime Chino says "you know"
Seen chino in various bands 8 times now. Crosses being the latest and best because of the small venue and proximity to the action. Love the Deftones as it's music forever changed my life. Btw Mike Patton is the best vocalist ever🤘
Deftones is amazing
I don't own any Korn albums, but I proudly owned all the albums by Deftones, FNM, Helmet etc.
Ive always thought its strange to lump Deftones with KoRn and LB. The only thing they really have in common is gaining popularity during a similar point it time. But out of the 3, I still listen to Deftones all the time and still play their music on guitar.
Prolly the best Chino interview I’ve ever seen
One of the most consistent metal bands around. Honing their sound, never jumping on trends and bandwagons. Even their worst album Gore would be considered other people’s Magnum opus. Why they’re still not on metal-archives baffles me.
Metal-Archives is a great site; one of the drawbacks is that they can be hella snobby about what is “Metal”
I fucking LOVE this man. And his band fucking rock, too.
7:30 Please tell me he's wearing a Casio calculator watch.
Patrick Trapasso yes he is :)
Hipster chino :)
TheCivildecay that is not hipster he’s coming from that era nothing hipter about using a Casio if you’re over 35
The Deftones are my 2nd favorite band. And Chino is my 2nd favorite vocalist. And may I just say. Deftones are definitely original. When you hear their music. You know it’s them.
Deftones - 7 Words is what real nu metal sounded like
suck suck suck suck suck suck
Passin By headup is the most nu-metal a song could possibly get
Around the Fur and Adrenaline was the best nu-metal out there.
Eddie n : that’s 6 punk!
you are completely wrong. Deftones is not nu metal. P.O.D is a good example or papa roach.
aww he said prince. that just made me love him even more 💜 i’m also really glad they stuck to their guns of separating themselves from others because they really do have a much different and better sound.
Deftones are timeless
I love that Chino and I are the same age and loved these bands at the same time. When he talks about listening to Morrissey all through high school and I’m like we are the same person 😂
Respect!
4:45 is why I love this band so much. They are their own animal and won't be pigeonholed.
I don't care what people call them or label them as. I grew up listening to Deftones.....and Deftones are in their own category. It's called ORIGINALITY. They didn't copy or try to be something they aren't. Love this band and always will!!
Yeah, they have their own vibe going on, definitely original and influential, also underrated
I’ve loved their sound since first hearing Adrenaline in 1995 and seeing them live in So Cal during 1998.
R.I.P. Chi.
It was all Patton..king of the underground..
great interview
deftones IS deftones and i love how he said that. deftones is so much more than nu metal
Change by deftones listened to that when I was high asf and I was like holy shit who is this I was just listening to music in the radio got hooked on them
he doesn’t sound like how you think he would sound based on his singing voice lol
Chino is such a classy guy I’m a big deftones fan and I honestly think he is one of the best singers ever
I wonder if the song, "My Own Summer" dealt with any of the Deftones turning down the spring break event? Maybe the title of the song deals with that and not any of the lyrics?
Saw them 8 times. Love this band they are the real deal even through it all with chi. Hardest working band out there!!
Deftones is nu metal band definitely not hating by a lot metalhead. They really creative in their music.
saw them for the 16th time last week. great show as always. my 1st was in 95 when they opened for white zombie and pantera.
That sounds fuckin’ dope man, all of those bands
how are u gonna keep askin deftones about other bands wtf? the interview is about them not limp bizket and korn.
Saw them for adrenaline tour opening for 311 and around the fur headlining. still listen today. love their evolution!
Chino is such a nervous person. Bless him :')
He’s not someone that likes a lot of attention like me
That's one of the things I've always liked about Deftones was their sound and how they weren't afraid to experiment with different tones, expressions, etc.
Be blessed Mexican brother, Camilo Chino Moreno.
they are just legends!
My favorite band of all time. Love Deftones.
papi roach
😂
Damn man.. 😂
Papa ganoosh
Deftones music never never gets old.
True
Interesting. I always thought "Back to School" didn't really fit in with the rest of the album...by no means a bad song though.
Yeah, I feel the same. The first version of White Pony didn't have that track
I always have preferred Pink Maggot
And that decision was dope, I so love mini maggot. I love how pink maggot, the last song rolls right into mini maggot, and the whole album starts again. Thanks you deformed I grew up with your music. I’ve boughten that cd 7times over.
hes so cute
Love this band as they are from Sacramento and he has the same last name as me and of course the badass music
I don't even need to watch the interview, because "I know" 💀
Ladies and gents, you are looking at a living legend. Embrace the moment and be happy that you are breathing the same air as this guy. Holy fuck!
2:40 practicing social distancing 10 years early!
Deftones are one of the things that make it good to be alive
Faith No More are kings
Mr. Bungle
MrsRmrz87 Mike Patton
I never ever put the Deftones in a category with Korn or the rest of those bands. I think the Deftones are head and shoulders above all of them. And they’re still killin it to this day!
DEFTONES!
Deftones have & always will be their own original sound.
And they paved the way for post hardcore bands like At The Drive In, Glassjaw and even bands like Pierce The Veil...
