      @@gloriouscontent3538 exactly. Crosses is a side project. A damn good one, but a side project. When mike shinoda did fort minor or Chester Bennington did dead by sunrise or his work with stone temple pilots no one was calling them “former” linkin park members. It’s so much better for these artists to do another style of music they’re passionate about as a side project instead of trying to force their band members to go in that direction too when that’s not really their thing. Deftones have certainly had their range of sound but I never see them going so purely synth-pop as crosses pulls, so it’s really best chino has this side project so he’s not feeling stifled creatively.

    • @ian_5184

      At this time, however, the future of Deftones was undecided. The band was dormant for a bit after 2007, and again after Chi died. They had just started work on Gore at the time of this interview.

      Locally here in Cleveland, this guy and show are douche bags. A lot of people hate his interviews, I see in other comments of other people as well, and they hate that he's clueless and an ass sometimes...but I actually think like you, it's a bit refreshing because this clueless guy asks questions you don't see. Like a newbie would approach the person talking to them gathering what they do, rather than someone who knows all about them and asks the same certain questions.

He was walking to his tour bus and i asked if he would like to sing while i play guitar. He said yes, we started jamming!! It was surreal for him to meet Madonna, that was a surreal moment for me!!! The thing I love about Chino is how he will add to notes being played on the instruments, not copy them
    The guitar will commonly play a standard major chord, but instead of matching that chord, he'll sing a different note to turn that common major chord into a 7, or a 9, or something along the lines, making the entire song have a cooler chord progression. I think that's so cool

    • @Ateka9
      @Ateka9 9 лет назад

      At the beginning of the interview, he mentions how he didn't expect Chino to come by, because people usually come to his show BEFORE their show to promote it. Chino came by after his show nonetheless. I would suppose the interviewer didn't have more than a few minutes to prepare for the interview. It kinda looked like he was fed some information during the interview.

    • @Davephatbuds
      @Davephatbuds 9 лет назад +11

      Even if he knew everything about Deftones, he still has to conduct the interview as if he doesn't. For the sake of the listener. It's a way to get more out of the artist. He asks questions as if he doesn't know, so Chino can be more indepth with his answers. This is probably one of the best Chino interviews you'll find. Stop complaining.

      chi's accident was in o9, not every interviewer is a fan of the people they interview, he is asking questions if he knows everything beforehand then its not a fucking interview, when he asked did anything change , it could have meant was it a possible end to the band, or are they gonna replace him? Trust I got a homie in a coma, they have had a lot of time to grieve and make peace with the 6 YEAR wait that yielded no results. The guy did his job, and for the record, when it comes to comas that span that long the person laying lifeless is just that of a lifeless body, it is a brutal thing to witness but after enough time they have in your mind been dead for a while, hope only lasts for so long before you have to accept it for what it is. Chi's initial accident was the day he died, only those who have dealt with coma situations can understand how difficult and hopeless it can be to just wait. I can honestly say that there was a point where I just wished my boy would either die or wake up, cause standing on the sideline helpless is almost like being in a coma along side of him, and not being able to do shit to help him possibly wake up cause no one ever can give you the answers you want even those who regain conciseness don't come out 100% for reasons like brain damage and shit like that.

I think fans want to learn about the artist's music ITSELF and how it comes about---us inspiring musicians want to know the politics behind the artist's success (e.g. HOW they started, HOW they got a record deal, HOW they got the chance to tour the world, HOW they are able to make a living of their music, ect...). For me, this was one of the greatest interviews ever. He asked almost everything I've wanted to know about how the Deftones achieved success for a long time.

    This is a different interview than most . Chino is chill responsible guy. He doesn't talk about a rotten past or depressing shit which is rare. its not a bad thing it's just so common and similar amongst the grunge and Nu metal scene back in the day

    for a sec I thought this guy said "Chino, late singer of..." (not lead)... it woulda been funny if right then the camera cut back to Chino's spot on the couch & it was just a skeleton sitting there just for that 1 quick shot & then Chino & the guy. both jump slightly & are sayin' to eachother "oh damn, did you see that?!" & then just cut back to normal & talking "anyways, lets get back to..." ... hahaha

    This interviewer does suck. Absolutely doesn't know anything about Deftones or the culture of the band. Chino has always been my favorite artist and I completely support everything he does.
    This fool is ridiculously mainstream and not at all about the music.
    Love you Chino! :-)

      I didn't realize radio talk show hosts had to know everything on the planet about who they're interviewing. Wouldn't that kill the point of an interview?

  • @lucasalexander4394

    Imagine as an interviewer hearing that Madonna walks in the room - the most famous woman and musician in the world at the time, and boss of the record company who signs the band - and then proceeding to ask nothing more about it - just move onto the same generic questions you would ask someone who was just talking about some suited exec. So dumb.

    I love how we got to hear so much stuff from the past. I personally loved to hear his real name which I knew for a few years from Wikipedia. Funny thing is my name is Camilo :D But why is his spelled Camillo? in Spanish it would change the "L" sound to a "Y" sound.

    Was such a great show. Smaller venue than Deftones plays in and Chino came right down in the crowd and walked around us while singing. You don't really get those moments to enjoy for the big shows. So was awesome to live.

    Chino is one of the absolute GOATs and he was chill af. The way the interviewer asked about Chi acting like he didn't know his name and how he continued to ask for details about how the accident happened and the state Chi was in was disrespectful and annoying. He def thinks he's the coolest guy in the room and should probably rethink that.
