Something about old MySpace crunkcore scratches my little adhd brain in a positive way - it still doesn’t make my middle school music taste ANY better, but oddly is helpful. I will Never forget when they were on TRL 😅
I was an OG BC13 fan too back in 2007-2008 when my friend introduced them to me. I was heavily emo and 15 years old so the music was definitely something I threw myself into. Saw them live many times with BOTDF. This video was such a nostalgia trip for me :)
Thank you for this! I still love them but I was one of the kids that also outgrew them after I turned 18. Now I listen and miss that time and their music
I still totally listen to Brokencyde all the time. I also throw in some Dot Dot Curve and Millionaires. Not gonna lie I still love me some Crunkcore 🖤🖤
No disrespect brother, you are legit killin it with the stache! Just discovered your channel through a Facebook group where you did the 4 part docuseries/breakdown of the rise of Asking Alexandria & I gotta so, you definitely take your time & do all the research to really back everything up. Awesome content & you’ve gained another fan! 🤘🏻
Used to think they suck but weirdly enough found myself going hard to them recently and now here I am listening to scene music again (aside from my daily AA listen)
I love Brokencyd, idgaf. Always have. To this day they are in my top 5 or even 3 bands. As much as everyone hates on them I love the music, as trashy as it sounds.
Its crazy because this was the only local band in my city that made it and still to this day is still the only band in Albuquerque that has made it this far with their band and Im still a fan!
Just wanted to say, I appreciate your channel and I binge all your videos every night 😂 I look forward to it everyday after work. I was a bit young during the whole myspace scene era, so I wasn’t as exposed to the music (at least back then), I came up in the generation after that (2012-16 like BMTH, PTV, Later AA, Mayday, The story so far, etc) so getting to go back and listen to this neon scene stuff and learn more about it is super exciting to me. I’ve been loving 3oh!3, Metro Station, and Brokencyde lately. Definitely a golden age in music imo. Anyway just wanted you to know that your channel is the shit. Never stop doing what you’re doing. Appreciate you man 🤘🏼 btw, can we do a video on metro station?! The first album specifically is amazing, Kelsey is my jam!!!
You’re like a mid to late 2000s music historian. I miss myspace culture it was such a wacky time. The closest the gen z’ers got was the underground soundcloud scene a few years ago; which i also dig! Its all pretty cool! Love your stuff!
Love it! Still need to do a video on Hollywood Undead though I think you really don’t like them (don’t blame you, very misogynistic stuff) but they were definitely a huge part of the 2005-2009 ‘scene wave’
man you make me feel a little old haha yeah I had their original digital copy on my ipod back in 07-08, remember them because friend Sacha got me into them along with Hollywood Undead and Dot Dot Curve lol like you said just liked that kind of funny crunkcore music, especially for parties.
I was never into Brokencyde, I was probably too old (nearly 40 now) and out of the music scene too much by then. I spent my mid to late teens listening to Atari Teenage Riot, Pitchshifter, Mad Capsule Markets before moving on to MSI and stuff so maybe in another life I would have loved them. But I a hundred percent like yourself, fucking loved that they pissed older elitist people off so much, the same twats I had to put up with growing up so it was even sweeter. I appreciate how they fought through that and seemed like they genuinely wanted to have fun, more power to them
I gotta say it is Wild that you made a connection between crunkcore and $uicideboy$. I am a HUGE $B fan and it makes so much sense that I went from the scene and emo type alternative to now just a huge mis-mash of alternative lol. I guess I've always been alternative some way. I have been all over the place as fas as alternative adjacent music: Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein, Black Veil Brides, Circle Takes the Square, The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie, NeverShoutNever, BOTDF, Breathe Carolina, brokenCYDE, Dance Gavin Dance, Emarosa, La Dispute, Modest Mouse, The Dead Kennedys, Half Japanese, Built to Spill, Pinback, Placebo, Lil Peep, Chetta, Pouya, Bones, $uicideboy$... Kinda in chronological order and it makes sense lol
I was living in Japan at the time and saw “I’m not a fan but the kids like it” randomly at a music shop circa 2009, bought it cause it looked cool and man we played the shit outs that cd. I wasn’t a scene kid I was into Led Zeppelin and tool and rock. But god that album and the first Hollywood undead were huge over there at the time
Born and raised in ABQ, NM. Watched this because I was feeling super nostalgic since I came out of scene kid retirement to see them live last night. No matter what anyone says, they absolutely are revolutionary in the scene and put us on the map, not just for crunkcore but for all the alt kids back then. To me, there was no rise and fall here in abq because they’re our hometown heroes. Last night was just as wild as when I saw them back in 08 and 09, so even in 2024 abq hometown fans go just as hard as we did back when we had a top 8 and wore 5 studded belts. BR0K3NCYD3WiLLN3V3RDi3
I was never a h8er, but I never really cared for Brokencyd. However, I loved Attack! Attack! and Family Force 5. I’m currently trying to embrace what has come as a result of what they all did. But honestly, I’ll watch any of the retrospectives you do my man. I miss the MySpace era so bad.
@@TheJrockfreak did you ever get into their RUclips series, The Really Real Show? That had me rolling back in the day. It was like a scene version of The Office.
Here because of Crunkcore and scene kid nostalgia. Going to be supporting Brokencyde to the end now. 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️ I predicted the second rise of Crunkcore earlier this year and continue to be proven right with the Millionaires gaining traction from TikTok. It's only a matter of time before the whole scene (haha) blooms once again. Now with all the bad apples gone (*cough* BOTDF and Jeffree Star *cough*), I hope the good new days can be just about the music and fun, without the drama. God-forbid, it's not a repeat of the old Gen Z scene I grew up in with obsessive fangirls being literal children with abandonment issues, who were also emotionally neglected as kids with no support system. A scene kid can dream. Can't wait for what this new chapter has in store! 🙏🏻
im here for the genre revival if the music is a bit more polished. like there's nothing wrong with the style of music, even if it is niche, but the vocals and lyrics need to be less.... bad. also i hate to say it but ive seen comments from girls accusing the guys from brokencyde of being innapropriate to them as minors. so just... be aware of that
@@jinkieez I don't believe those rumors, but because of the D. V. situation, I've learned to keep my eyes open. Thank you for the reminder. I don't mind Crunkcore existing for adults; I just don't feel comfortable with kids listening to it. The music is X-rated for a reason. Most Crunkcore isn't meant to be for kids.
More notable information: Sev went solo and then paired up with another dude named Rise (Sev and Rise) in 2013 to make a bunch of *interesting* rap music that wasn’t horrible

fr like we got bullied for that shit and while i agree in retrospect most of it wasn't "good" neither is most hyperpop that's popular nowadays, and i feel like it's another example of normies stealing our shit and getting praised while we were bullied. not cool
brokeNCYDEs energy is amazing, also that is an incredible hat you're wearing!!
"Ah yes.. crunkcore.. BREEE BREEEEEEE!!!!"
That transition 🤣
Man, I did not CARE what anyone said, I freaking loved brokeNCYDE and a lot of the earlier bands. Millionaires were great, Breathe Carolina, Blood on the Dancefloor (yeah, don't ask), The Medic Droid (I still remember the lyrics to Fer Sure), I Set My Friends on Fire (anyone remember when they collabed with Smosh back in the day?).
Smosh is actually how I found their music back then, truly a better time xD
CAUSE PERIODS SUCK AND COMMAS RULE!!!!
some botdf songs stil slap today, sucks that dahvie turned out to be such a shithead lol. i listen to their music practically daily on soundcloud cause its just so catchy
Scene Girlz will always be the guiltiest of pleasures 4 me
Booty call for me 😅
Great vid bro!! Still love Brokencyde, always gotta come back and respect pioneers
I was a metal head and still loved brokencyde and crunkcore stuff
2 things 1. The evolution of your hair and stache from the first video of yours I saw (never shout never) to this is incredible hahah love the ETID hat so much 2. Awesome awesome video and I’m so glad you also enjoyed there music haha as ridiculous as it is I loved them back then and still do! Keep up the amazing content!
Got to respect anyone still rocking the swoopy scene hair, twelve years on, despite horrendous male pattern baldness!
Ironically 12 years too early to the party. I remember when get crunk as a single blew my mind before the album dropped lol.
Fuck yes!!! I un-ironically still blast these guys!!!
love yourself sweetie
“Shorty been gifted by a veteran crunk kid” is iconic lol
No disrespect brother, you are legit killin it with the stache! Just discovered your channel through a Facebook group where you did the 4 part docuseries/breakdown of the rise of Asking Alexandria & I gotta so, you definitely take your time & do all the research to really back everything up. Awesome content & you’ve gained another fan! 🤘🏻
To add I didn’t know they were signed on Sub Noize!? That’s wild!
i was so hype for this video and now it’s finally here 💕💕 all the love man😎
love this mans content, never stop making bangers from back when
Used to think they suck but weirdly enough found myself going hard to them recently and now here I am listening to scene music again (aside from my daily AA listen)
I have never clicked on a video so fast. MAKE AMERICA CRUNK AGAIN
This is one of my new favorite videos 🖤
You should do a Dot dot curve video as well! Love it
I’m at the point that I can hear the video title in your voice just by looking at it in my notifications
Myspace was a fun time I was lucky to have been a teenager during thoese times.
@@Kyle4OH8 same here!
Awesome video! Looking forward to the AA review!
Love it! Still need to do a video on Hollywood Undead though I think you really don’t like them (don’t blame you, very misogynistic stuff) but they were definitely a huge part of the 2005-2009 ‘scene wave’
Would love to see that!
That makes me like em more!
Just found your channel and i love your content man!
man you make me feel a little old haha yeah I had their original digital copy on my ipod back in 07-08, remember them because friend Sacha got me into them along with Hollywood Undead and Dot Dot Curve lol like you said just liked that kind of funny crunkcore music, especially for parties.
The wispy mustache x Every Time I Die hat combination is really hitting close to home.......
I was living in Japan at the time and saw “I’m not a fan but the kids like it” randomly at a music shop circa 2009, bought it cause it looked cool and man we played the shit outs that cd. I wasn’t a scene kid I was into Led Zeppelin and tool and rock. But god that album and the first Hollywood undead were huge over there at the time
Were the Japanese people really enjoying it like that? Haha that’s dope
I listened to them in middle school and high school, I wish I could have seen them live.
this dude gets it. fun storyteller of niche subject matter and the mustache is a welcome addition
Family Force 5 were so underrated
@@TheJrockfreak yes! For real! I saw them so many times live at small shows during the late 2000’s! They put on the best show of anyone in the scene!
@@alexkenchel Thats awesome! my first experience was seeing them at Warped Tour one year and after that I was hooked
@@TheJrockfreak did you ever get into their RUclips series, The Really Real Show? That had me rolling back in the day. It was like a scene version of The Office.
@@alexkenchel I dont think I knew they did that, now ill have to dig into their youtube archive
Love this! Can we get a discography or rise of Pierce the veil ?
Great video!! Very informative.
And that’s 2 exclamation point at the end.
Here because of Crunkcore and scene kid nostalgia. Going to be supporting Brokencyde to the end now. 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️
I predicted the second rise of Crunkcore earlier this year and continue to be proven right with the Millionaires gaining traction from TikTok.
All the crunkcore artists were so prominent for me when I was 12/13 omg😭
More notable information: Sev went solo and then paired up with another dude named Rise (Sev and Rise) in 2013 to make a bunch of *interesting* rap music that wasn’t horrible
Love you bro. Good stuff
COZY SAID 100 GECS
COZY SAID 100 GECS
I was a hugeee Brokencyde fan. I had their CDs and a tee shirt. Also made fanart. I listened to them all the time in middle school.
Its great how ahead of their time this band was. In a way they influenced today's SoundCloud trapcore genre. If you listen to brokencyde's song schizophrenia and then listen to this newer song by afourteen called die in this car, those two songs sound exactly alike
Gotta admit, I was drunk as fuck singing doing my thang doin doin my thang the other night. That song still slaps
Your channel makes me feel nostalgia from something i was never involved in
That original album with Taking Lyfe From Me was dope, I remember that being the shit in middle School
ive always loved them tbh, their whole look and thing theyre doing is so goofy and laughable that its not rlly that bad. theyre all funny dudes, theyre cute and they just wanna have fun. haters really werent deserved, considering it was just party music but se7en decided to scream over it. people take shit so seriously for no reason, its rlly not that deep.
Wow so happy I found this channel😍
I would loveeee to see a video on Hollywood Undead 😩
i used to play this to piss every body off!!! Dam i'm getting old! Myspace Rip I miss my page
I only know of Brokencyde for Freaxxx. I genuinely find it so ridiculous, hilarious and weird but I still find myself periodically listening to it because I find it amusing. There’s a line in that song, where I just can’t get passed how impossible a certain action would be 😂
But it’s clear they were having fun. I can’t say it’s not a fun song, just way tf out there, but it is catchy af 😂
Love your stuff man, takes me down memory lane hahaha
I remember Brokencyde and was the one in high school that introduced it to my friends.
You should do a video on breathe Carolina!!
"Singer", that's a good one! 😆😆😆
2drunk 2drive is my fave song of theirs for absolutely no reason
The lyrics that you choose to edit in fucking kill me every time 😂😂😂 you’re hilarious
I still like them, crunkcore always was, and always will be pure, dumb fun.
