  • Abandoned Steak 'N Shake - Monaca, PA. In this video we take a walk around and look at this old restaurant that is part of a struggling chain that has closed all locations in the Pittsburgh, PA area. This location closed well before the pandemic and has sat vacant since. Enjoy!

For a place that has been permanently closed for years, the interior actually looks decent.

I used to work security up at that mall and was well aware of this place. It just kept on getting progressively worse and worse for service. I mean week to week it was entirely different staff. Now I’m told that the cheapskate owner of the chain did that on purpose. First he got rid of the kitchen staff who were making 15 an hour, then he had new staff working for minimum wage. The waitstaff were making 2.83 an hour and the kids frequenting the place didn’t tip. They were getting cheaper with service too cause they used to give you the shakes in an actual coke glass, last time I was there it was a styrofoam cup cause they couldn’t get anyone to work there for the shitty hours and shitty pay they were paying. The final insult was the franchise agreement which obligated you to give 50 percent of the takings back to the company. It was a 10k buy in but for a shit deal nobody was giving up 10,000 bucks. Another thing that doomed this place was competition, your close to bridgewater pa and Jerry’s curb service, you’ve got an eat n park within spitting distance that did the late night thing, there’s a freaking sheetz 15 or 20 minutes away in Baden plus along route 65 you’ve got a Wendy’s, a Burger King a Taco Bell, a McDonald’s, a Pizza Hut and a long Johns. Not to mention 2 Arbys locations one of which is on the mall grounds, plus the kings and the hotel with its in-house restaurant and Ranaldis which is on the mall grounds. I mean for a few years this place had late night locked down but once others got into it they were SOL. Simply put the company cheaped out and the competition ended them

One of the Steak 'N Shake locations in San Antonio closed down during the COVID pandemic's worst but later re-opened at the beginning of 2021 and have been just as successful as they were before their temporary closure. It's still open to this day

Steak n shake as a whole went down hill. My local steak n shake had a fire and never opened back up. That was in Seminole Florida. That tgi Friday and your Homestead comment reminded me of my neighbors in Spring Hill Florida who originally came from Homestead. And that colonial squire in Ripley new york is now a love's truck stop.

we had one in seattle but it closed not cause of the virus but cause of all the violence and vandalism around the place. cause of that the manager or owner decided not to reopen and not come back. was told by a prior employee. the location has been boarded up since it closed in 2020 sadly. so now we dont even have one in the entire state. we do have a more popular shake shack though.
