    I always feel a little sad when I see abandoned places in ruins like this. To think that once this was a lively place, full of people making memories: A family with kids who loved playing in the play place while mom and dad enjoy a few moments to themselves, A little league team having a celebratory McDonald's lunch, a group of teen boys and girls going out on a group date, a group of senior citizens, enjoying a McDonald's breakfast with coffee and conversation, and so on. If the walls of these places could talk, they would have so many stories to tell. Memories that will last long after the physical building crumbles away.

    This is one some would consider to be a generation 3 McDonald's building. (1967-1979) these were when they implemented the 2nd drive thru window, a more modern design for the time, and the iconic roofing that continued till the shoebox design took over.

      The walls are solid, so a new roof would make it usable again. I've seen worse damage to block or brick buildings. My girlfriend's family in high school had their block house burn while they were at a Christmas party. 90% of the roof was gone, and most of the interior was gutted. I was in the 11th grade at the time. I helped them rebuild it after school, and on the weekends. The first part was to clean out everything that couldn't be reused. then build a new roof. Then the floors were repaired, and new studding. We wired it, insulated it and dry walled it. It was during the summer break from school by the time we finished. It would have been faster to ear it down and start over, but that would have doubled the cost.

    That is one rotting, ugly McDonald's since it was closed. I watched another video of it by another guy exploring these vacant facilities, and just like he said, it's in bad enough condition that demolition is the only answer. According to property records, this one was built in 1981. Closed about late 2006 or 2007 when a newer McDonald's was built half a mile away. The interior looks like it's original with minimal to no changes, and older stores prior to 1987 - they had metal outdoor playgrounds modeled after McDonaldland characters and a special room for kids' birthday parties and other events; and then 1987 and later was when they went for the indoor PlayPlace with plastic tubes and ballpits and integrated children's parties in that area as well. So, it would have been actually over 15 years since this one closed.

    Wow, that's an OLD one! I always love a good greenhouse Kroger too! I wonder how many Big Macs this place served over its life. I like the inverted railing detail on the ceiling at 5:54. They built a lot of these Kmart/Kroger combos with fast food outlots in the late-70s/80s. The Kroger is from about 1981, the greenhouse doesn't have the curved side walls (changed in 1980) and the slope of the walls doesn't angle with the glass (1982+), nor is it a "5-bay greenhouse" version (1983+). The brown block color is somewhat rare too. This McDonald's is likely from just after the shopping center opened but it looks decidedly '70s inside and has probably been closed for at about 20 years. It got the red/yellow/white exterior paint (early-2000s) but was was closed before the 2004 renovation program. The roof is also aged, they would have put that on over the mansard roof when it closed and those are probably 15-year shingles. Nice find! There aren't many left (including greenhouse Krogers).

      The Kroger also has skylights which wouldn't have been a greenhouse Kroger thing so someone else was in that space before it closed.

    • @peterjszerszen
      @peterjszerszen 2 года назад

      @@slackingpacking That makes sense. The 2004 renovation program lasted right up to the last recession and they may have known they were going to move so they opted out. Up until a few years ago you could still find an '80s McD's here and there that they seemed to forget about but now I can't even recall the last time I saw one with the old mansard roof. End of an era, Wallie is so right about them just being faded memories now. What an awful period of commercial architecture we've been in for the past 10-15 years. It's like the building equivalent of cars in the '80s. At least McD's still puts ceilings in though. Wendy's modern "shoebox" design is like eating in a warehouse with awful acoustics and coldness. If I wanted to eat in a warehouse, I'd just go for the Home Depot hot dog (that's gone now too).

    Where I live, the McDonalds we have had the red roof until just a couple years ago! I miss the way it used to look before they renovated it. Now, it’s boring and has gone downhill.

    All I can say is if the owners were wanting to lease this building, they should clean it up so prospective people would want to lease it. Otherwise, I am pretty sure it’s simply abandoned with old For Lease signs in place. It should be demolished!

    That really surprises me. as a former MCD VP, we would always make sure we "de-arch-ed" all closed locations. This may be a rare case where MCD did not own the building and the landlord did not allow MCD to do that.
