I finally scraped together the courage to review this thing. This keyboard is so bad, you would've believe it. Please enjoy my misery like I know you will.

The practice sentence was: "Hello my name is Thomas and I'm typing on a Datalux Space Saver keyboard right now. This keyboard is almost without equal in the land of shitfuck titwank keyboards. I fucking hate it!" Наука
>WANING
A one-word indication that my evening just got better.
I saw the thumbnail. I smiled. Wide. "I want to hear it verbally abused," I thought. And I was not disappointed. A good start of the day I guess.
50 Shades of GKH/GSC. 😆
mail.keycapsdirect.com/images/colors/pbtGrays.JPG
I saw that clawed hand in the thumbnail, the words "space saving" and immediately thought, "oh boy this is gonna be good"!
It seems that this keyboard was designed purposefully designed inserting all the "features" that the designers felt as irritating:
- non standard keycap size;
- not height adjustable;
- weird layout (take some moment to appreciate the 1.5u "1" button, that moves the "`" button where "\" should be, which in turn was moved to the bottom row, but also we should praise the idea that the numpad, the navigation cluster and function buttons are all out of standard too, especially weird is the esc that was moved from one of the corners where is the most accessible to the middle of the keyboard!);
- extreme height (seriusly, it seems to have the proportions of a beamspring on the back!);
- mushy switches (at this point it was obvious that there would have been something awful, but still they managed to surprise us using rubber bands instead of springs!);
- did you know that a lot of people don't like the apple like italic legends? Let's throw it to the list!
- enter key shaped as the great pyramid of Giza, because why not.
Used this professionally for years and, other than the nasty switches, it worked very well next to a drafting tablet. The shorter span from space bar to top row was welcome for one handed operation. Never knew they upgraded the switches.
I was JUST thinking about this board... your top 10 worst is one of my all-time favorite videos! Excited to watch
I am sure you would’ve realized that someone was going to ask this and I am truly sorry to do this but is a typing demo XL with this keyboard incoming?
ARGH!
@@Chyrosran22 I choose to take that as a Yes.
hahahahahahah torture!!
Chyrosran22 Don’t do it! You don’t have to! You have so much to live for!
Well Thomas just did one for the Razer Ornata #blessed
Lol, "Chassepot" in french makes a weird mix between the words for "toilet flush" and "sanitary pot"
It's also a type of rifle, which is weird.
@@somon90 afaik it's named after the rifle.
Apparently
My best idiom insults source ever. I filled up my English idioms block evernotes file with so many entries you couldn't imagine. Ready to deliver to or (better against?) my worst students.
"Magnificunt" may be the greatest swear i've ever heard
I never thought I'd hear the term "defenestration" on this channel. My hat off to you, sir.
0:13 to 0:21 reminds me of a scene in "Breaking Bad" when Walt SR as his Heisenberg' alter-ego said a similar "You better tread lightly" line to Hank. :-D
Thanks for sharing, Chyrosran22
Yes, it was a reference to that scene - well spotted! ;)
@@Chyrosran22 Speaking of that scene... here it is :)

But is it as bad as the Smith Corona Leaf spring keyboard?🤔🤔
Smith Corona is #1. This is only #3.
@@0name933 Exactly, believe it or not, it's actually possible to get it worse than this xD .
now this.. this is content
I would enjoy a typing demonstration XL. I can't seem to get enough of this keyboard ;)
Comes for keyboard review, stays for the best expletives.
Also the space bar sounds like a rattly ball sack and the stabilizer is made of dry pasta.
It hurts for me to hear you cry
Holy crap, that slope is a double black diamond!
hands down best keyboard review ever made
I have one of these, brand new in the box. The keys are so stiff, you did a good job explaining how unpleasant it feels.
I actually really like the layout, but my typing mostly uses two fingers so maybe that explains it.
Also interestingly the trackpad version still has the keyswitches for the arrow keys inside the chassis. (Or at least mine does.)
Not being able to sleep in America finally has an advantage.
I'm truly sorry you had to go through such pain, but this was hilarious. Your comments made my day. I guess this was even worse than the type matrix or the Apple Aluminum A1243 keyboard.
When Ive seen the thumbnail I knew that Its gonna be some high quality stuff, the disclaimer prove it then 😂, I just love those vids, makes me laugh every time.
At first I thought that enter key wasn't even part of the original keycap set, it's like someone put a single SA cap on a Cherry profile set, holy fuck!
This is , without doubt, the best keyboard review I have ever seen. I’m glad you like it and I’m guessing it’s your daily driver.
lol your sarcasm reads well. Do you practice?
@@gorkskoal9315 I’m English….we’re taught it from a very early age 😉
@@BulletBeena LOL oh shit. The fact you responded to a 3 year old comment...that's actually awesome. lol.
@@gorkskoal9315 We’re also a patient and polite people 🤣
When you did the V1 Razer Green switch review, I can only imagine the practice sentence was something ridden with anger.
omg this was hilarious and painful. That typing video made me want to puke in my mouth, can't imagine how bad that must be to actually use.
I genuinely laughed at that switched design, it is sooo bad, like who would honestly have designed that not as a joke?!
I will say the layout looks cool, it also looks like shit to use but it has some je ne sais quoi elegance to it, but then again I look at a Reuters numpad and think o0hh, a good shell for a gaming macro pad; so my mind isn't exactly in the right place.
sam oksner Additionally, the sound test at the end was pretty good. Blindfolded, this keyboard might just get a pass.
@@XalphYT that's what I thought too, the sound test sounds good but clearly it's a poor keyboard. I bet it sounds nice because of the pbt caps
The typing sound is very nice though!
better than smith corona
I've seen this keyboard being used in a studio setting on a mixing desk, with a trackball next to it, where it makes more sense, since you're not really using the keyboard as much as the mouse and/or mixing desk.
I am curious if switching out the rubber band for a bent leafspring could work as a mod for these switches.
Thank you for your sacrifice! And kudos to your mother for educating you in the art of swearing.
Oh boy a content waning this is gonna be good
No comment on the combined "Back Sp / Enter" key? Or did I miss it?
man this layout really is something
how much do they go for? I need new wheel chocks 😑
So, what's worse, this, or that large print EZ Eyes keyboard? When was this keyboard made? I'm mostly used to rubber dome keyboards because that's what I've used for much of my life, so I don't know how I'd feel typing on a keyboard like this one.
Would you rather use this numpad, or a layered numpad like on a Cherry ML board?
I have to ask... what's up with the weird backspace/enter key thing??
I love Escape placement.
6:03 YEAST-INFECTED FUCK-STRUMPET i'm dying looooooooooooooool
Also, 70g actuation and 105g bottom out?!
And here I thought Kailh Box Navy switches were finger-killers after a while.
The "I" in MEI probably stands for "Incorporated" if I had to guess
“Hello and welcome to this review of my Datalux Space Saver-“ *cries inside*
Now I am inspired by those rubber band switches. Never thought they would be considered as user interface elements.
Well, I hope you record that before your holiday as comming back to that may have undone all the benifiets of a holiday.
I am going on holiday again in November :) .
wow, those 'switches' seem like maybe even worse than the smith corona leaf springs.... are the switch size in the plate at least compatible with mx so that you could put mx switches in?...i had an idea i abandoned way back where if you wanted a cheap 60% you could just get one of these, cut the top off and use the bottom...but still those weird key sizes fuck the idea up and that's why i didn't do it.
at least
you didn't have to rage quit the typing demonstration
I ran into one of these at a flea market at MIT not too long ago. Yes, it's just as bad as the review states D:
did datalux committed Smith-Corona leaf spring?
If the prospect of harsh language bother you you're definitely on the _best_ channel to fix it!
It sounds good though, can't deny that.
dare I say the sound of the alphas is actually pretty nice?
Might build a keeb with worst switches worst pcb and worst keycaps. Having trouble finding bad abs keycaps tho
@Ziv Zulander I know abs is bad, but I wanna find REALLY bad keycaps
@@gavinsmith707 you can find some super cheap silver or gold "bling bling" lazered ABS keycaps on Amazon or Ebay, they're HIIIIDEOUS!
Forget cylindrical or spherical profiles, just have a set of as-cheap-as-possible 3D printed unicorns (complete with 3D printed horns) as keycaps. Y'know, to have the keyboard throw up RGB unicorn vomit (using the worst possible implementation of RGB LEDs to induce seizures) at you. ;-)
Oh, forget ABS too, just have them made with rubber from recycled condoms. ;-)
@@gavinsmith707 Take some keycaps from a 1.99$ rubber dome keyboard, and find someone that can print you the adapters to the switch (I don't think that a cherry design could be that bad, so you'll still have a strange stem). Also they would end to be really tall, so key wobble will be greatly enhanced too!
could you review the razer huntsman te with the optical linear switches
Yes, I have one now! Will take some time to test and stuff first though.
@@Chyrosran22 Is that gonna be up soon? :D
@@Chyrosran22 Thanks man!
Tdxl for this?
I really think whoever designed this forgot the enter on the top keypad and was like, "No worries I'll just extendo this lower one."
The way you describe the mushiness and mechanism of the switch gave me a really bad feel just thinking about it....
Speaking of space saving... Any chance you'll review a 30% keyboard sometime? (Like an Alpha, Pain27, or Gherkin)
@Ziv Zulander As a long as we keep getting videos like this and the Planck, I say more much more!
@@FaultyYogurt Wait till you see the last review of 2019, the end-of-the-year special is going to be a lot more colourful than this one :p .

Why "waning" and not "warning"?
Don't worry Thomas, we appreciate how much you suffer for us! Meanwhile, still waitin' on that Futaba Vintage Linear TDXL ;)
I'm recording it this weekend as it happens xD .
@@Chyrosran22 Can't wait for that symphony of condensed animal abuse xD
1hour non edited asmr with this thing
The sound is quite nice tho!
i love the sound of this board tho
Why is the 1 key so wide? Why is Escape up in the top half? Why is the Enter so tall? ARGH
struggle to even hit the key-swich hahaaha TOP 9 swches made xDDD
You should do top 10 swiches wich are simmilar to rubber domes xD
Idk why but I love watching you swear at an inanimate object
I feel like you would be great at writing keyboard fanfiction
You liked it then?
He clearly likes it!
"Let's take the feeling of a Smith-Corona leaf spring and make it WORSE."
6:00-6:30 - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - I couldn't stop laughing at what was said at those times
Actually, scratch that - make it 6:00 onwards.
I just watched the movie Species and this keyboard is featured in there albeit a grey version.
which coincidentally was a bad movie. so, bad movie featuring a bad keyboard.
Lmao i can already feel the stiffness from the sound, that must've been something indeed
Well now at least I know why it's been so long since the last review -- you couldn't bring yourself to finish it! I was starting to suffer review withdrawal....
"Cinnamon smoking Jesus Christ on a home train"... Now THAT'S an image... Love it! 😆 Also: scratchy reds ARE scratchy reds, lol.
I have a TellerVision keyboard that has the alphas ABOVE the number pad, function row and block editing keys. I suppose them being for bank tellers would mean that they would be used in a standing position and the numbers most important.
When you explained how the switch works, I threw up a little in my mouth.
How much of a botched lobotomite do you have to be to even come up with it?
Pardon the ignorance, but is it maybe a result of our patent system? Just a wild guess.
Is it safe to say you didn't like this keyboard?
i think you're on to something m8
Space saving? The IBM Kishsaver is where it's at.
I like it
Almost bought this keyboard two weeks ago... glad I didnt
C O HOW LMAO
@@Uncasted brand new in box on ebay. It's an auction, I forgot to bid on it, ended up selling for 40 dollars. I say glad didnt buy, still it's a nice gag for 40 dollars.
... but how did you REALLY feel?
it sounds good, although probably because of the sheer mass of rubber inside each switch
Oh man as if those keys up there were not crazy enough, now only at @1:35 into the video and I'm seeing that huge Enter key, WTF???
Omg, I can actually see and hear the mushiness, LOL
Lol, a keyboard shaped like the bottom of a ski slope, with a bizarre layout, "rubber-dome-less rubber dome" switches and a fucking *tall ass* enter key?! I can't even.
The irony here is that this board actually sounds nice xD
2:13 HOLY SHIT!
From the first shot i didn't realise how tall it was.... CHRIST
I suppose these switched exist because they wanted to lower production costs compared to build a keyboard using third party switches. Also the "creativity" may be a way to avoid other switches manufacturers patents
It seems to be made for stuff like bank teller terminals etc. I actually want one.
I have a mini Cherry keyboard, and really like the ML switches.
I would assume that Chassepot is meant to be pronounced something like "Shas-poe" and not "chassis-pot", because there's a French rifle from the mid 1800s with the same name.
Come to think of it, this keyboard might have been designed for use in a car, like police cars. It would be mounted on a arm so there would be nowhere to rest your palms, even when typing.
Actually Datalux still makes keyboards for police cars.
*MEI
I have a bad feeling about this.....
Chan Paul Which was confirmed when Thomas says that an ML Cherry switch is an upgrade.
Not even into the video and just looking at the thumbnail, I went "What the fuck is that thing?"
the tall-ass enter is probably their "replacement" for the missing numpad enter, ughhh
Every day I learn new words... Thanks!
Oh yes 🤣 I've been anxiously waiting for a review of this atrocity ever since I saw your top 10 worst switches video.
I think yours are just dirty. I'm typing on a NOS one right now and it's very smooth not scratchy at all. They still feel like utter ass tho.
Why would anyone do this?
Having a raised enter (or other oft-used key) that can more easily be found by touch for homing purposes actually sounds like a half-decent idea.
Wait till you "trip" over it a few times ;p .
That's what the little elevated lines in middle row keys are for, while being completely unobstrusive
