Using that as the first _72 Seasons_ single, as well as releasing it without even telling anybody to expect it, was such a great call.
We all got surprised. even the band was surprised when they heard the single
Looking back on it, it was pretty obvious actually. They had already started a full media campaign with all kinds of promotional stuff a good 9-12 months before the album dropped. These guys were doing talk-show tours and new merchandising deals for months before Lux Eterna was released as the first single. They just didn’t talk about new material and made sure that nobody else did either. They are Metallica after all - if there’s one band that knows business and marketing, it’s these guys.
I loved it, the last two albums(dm and hwtsd) were hyped up and teased for years. No teasing this time around, just Metallica kicking ass
Apparently, James wanted to name the album _Lux Æterna,_ but got outvoted. That's why it's yellow.
That was Lars’ brain in action for sure. He’s made really good moves for the band. To keep them relevant but not trying too hard. He’s a great engineer in the studio too.
Even if the mic acts up, crowd can sing for James

I was there, too. My first concert in a age of 52. The show, the Performance, the Band was awesome. I was happy to be there 🙃😊

I know - it really sucks that he's an imperfect human musician and not a robot or a drum machine. Imagine musicians getting amped up playing for a big crowd and playing a little fast live- that's just completely unacceptable!

Whenever the mic acts up, it reminds me that THESE GUYS DON’T PLAY WITH A TRACK HIDING THEIR MISTAKES. THEY SOUND SO. FUCKING. GOOD.
Is it just that kind of mic? Sure it looks cool, but if they act up so much, why bother? Could be the cabling system that was shoddy.
I am 45 years old. For about 30 years I've been listening to heavy metal and its subgenres. It's impressive. Nothing, absolutely nothing that was recorded or that is recorded surpasses: "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets" and "... and justice for all". They are eternal albums. In 100 years when they talk about heavy metal, I'm sure these 3 albums will be cited as a reference. Metallica is the greatest metal band in history.

@@garymorris216 James taught me how to downpick. I'm just about as fast... but when I'm playing something with that level of intensity, no way in hell can I sing at the same time.
I’ve been playing for 20 years since I was four, been singing and playing the guitar for nearly 8 years and I can barely keep the rhythm lmao
So awesome that they didn't post-edit the vocals. That's the magic of live performance, the energy and the feedback from the crowd.
Man, I really hope they make a bluray release for this tour, like the Quebec Magenetic or Francais Pour Une Nuit videos. These shows look like SO much fun

Metallica makes me emotional for some reason. I always knew who they were, knew some songs, but the way I've become so obsessed these last few months, got tickets to their show in LA, went to the album screening. I even saw Blackened whisky in a store this weekend and bought it... I feel captured by their intensity at this stage in their career.
And eating up every Metallica doc you can find, too.

Theyre so damn good and so is the latest album as well.... In fact ill call it the yellow album because the mixing is so balanced and it really has that kind of vibe that you really want to listen through the whole thing once youve started it.

Lux Aeterna is possibly one of the greatest Pop songs ever written, and I mean that as a compliment. Fast, aggressive, chaotic... perfect for the early 21st Century.
Sidenote: I absolutely love the electronic song intros. I want to hear more of these.

I was there and it was absolutely unbelievable!!!! Lux was definitely one of the highlights. It sounded phenomenal and no video could do the experience justice. Best weekend of my life. I've never headbanged as hard as during those two shows.🤘
p.s. For those wondering about the mic issues in the video: I think it's an editing issue since I don't recall that happening during the concert. We could hear James really well and he sounded phenomenal!!!
