This show had so many of my fav versions of these characters. It was just so well written and executed. It's a shame we didnt get more seasons, but I'm content with what we got.
Considering they are in high school and Logan is an adult. It’s not as bad when he meets a girl when she’s an adult, but knowing her as a kid, being in a teacher/role model position, and developing feelings once she grows up is creepy at best. Groomer at worst.
My headcanon is that he didn't get mind-wiped the x number of times and remembers he has a kid entering middle school. F the writers who are wimps to Logan's fatherhood!
What I like best about this version is the focus of the schooling of young mutants, it also feels better Logan is more of a mentor because he is ages older than everyone else
Yeah, Logan being the grump dad/uncle figure that watches over these teenagers with so much potential is fucking great! It's like Aizawa and Class 1-A 15 years early!
@@Abominatrix650 I don't know if horikoshi ever admitted to watching this show, but they are clearly a fan of western comic superheroes, so they might have seen it and been inspired.
This show also had possibly one of the best interpretations of Logan. He’s still the rough clawed badass we know him to be, but he’s like a grumpy dad with a heart of gold. He’s a loner, yet he knows quite a few friends. He knows the younger members of the X-Men need to be prepared, but he’s aware that they need to be kids. He’s got no romantic interests, but he has a kinship with a majority of his group. Because he DOES care about his family.
Ok imma go on a Cyclops tangent real quick: This iteration of Scott is just the best in all of media in my opinion. You can see him more accurately depicted as he is in the comics: a LEADER. The movies & other shows always want to belittle him under Wolverine’s shadow. In this show, there is a hint to the rivalry in S3 E2 but not because of the stupid love triangle thing. It’s because Scott has grown up & truly become the leader of the X-Men, & Logan has to accept that Scott & the others have grown into capable heroes, seeing as to how he was the one that trained them-basically like seeing your kids grow up. Plus it was never about belittling the other, as the movies do. It was more of equal forces clashing yet finding solid ground, both having massive respect for the other. Here shown when Wolverine tells Cyclops “good-job” at the end of that episode for wisely leading the team. Also Scott’s relationship with his little brother is so touching. How they reconnect & how Scott easily falls into the big-brother role. Their dialogue is well thought-out & realistic to the point that it actually made me tear up a little when Alex told him that he registered to change his last-name back to ‘Summers’. Also Scott x Jean’s relationship is so well portrayed. (Again no dumb love triangle w/ Wolvie; instead they look up to him as a mentor & that’s just awesome). They start out as best friends but eventually get together romantically, always being there for the other through their hardships. Rest In Peace to Kirby Morrow, who was the voice of Cyclops.
This is literally my favorite portrayal of the X-Men in media. I know it’s an unpopular opinion since people usually favor the 90’s cartoon & live-action films-which I LOVE as well-but this has always taken my top spot.
I don't favor the live-action films. They just don't work for me. The 90' is pretty good, but I prefer Evolution, since I am a 2006 girl, and the 90' animation is not among my favorite things. No offense.
If Marvel hadn't been such a mess during this time, they could have built up their own animated universe starting with X-Men: Evolution. And the main creatives behind Evolution, Craig Kyle, Chris Yost, and Boyd Kirkland did try to do it later with Wolverine and the X-Men, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and one of their animated movies. It was just such a big missed opportunity.
I loved Avengers EMH and X-Men Evolution but found Wolverine and the X-Men to be a mediocre spiritual successor to Evolution. I wish EMH and Evolution had been in a shared animated universe.
I know everyone gripes about high school kids doing high school things, but X Men Evolution just hit the spot with me in that I loved seeing their high school antics. I didn't need them to be jetting off and saving the world every single episode. Seeing them feel like outsiders in their own school while still trying to navigate it, their love lives, and friends - it was all too real and I loved every single one of the characters. The pining Scott and Jean have for each other that doesn't go over the top, the antics Kurt had with Kitty and Rogue... ugh it all has a grip on my heart that I cannot shake
Evan Daniels, aka Spyke, was also created for the show... but sadly he didn't catch on like X-23 did. Back then they pretty openly talked about Spyke being created just to have a token black teammate, but they didn't want to have teen Bishop, so they had to make a new chara. His rivalry with Quicksilver was nice at the start, but it fizzled pretty quickly... and Pietro, who was a minor character compared to Spyke at the start, ended up having arguably more development.
@@randallflagg3700 spyke wasn't that great of a character... the weakest of the young cast. and lets be honest, we all knew he was a reskin of marrow but now with EXXXXTREME SKATEBAORD SKILLZZ and all that. they pushed him past the limit and made him into a caricature and course corrected too late. thats against x23, who only had like 3 appearances max and then was really fleshed out in the comics. spyke represented everything wrong with ACTUAL token additions to casts.... vs the ones people usually yell about that are just black people who are fleshed out and 3 dimensional.
I loved how Logan was like an elder brother to scott, and father figure to kitty, rogue and x-23 you could see how much he cared about them, Also this is the best version of cyclops there has been
I grew up on this show, I remember coming home after school everyday and being excited to watch this, I'm glad someone else actually remembers this existing because it meant a lot to me
I've been creating fanmade comics and novels for this cartoon for over a decade and these past few years it feels like the fandom really died out. I'm glad to see someone pick it up and dust it. Maybe Marvel becoming more mainstream means that a new generation will dig deeper, find this gem and hopefully the fandom cam be revived. Thanks for talking about it and shining some spotlight at this series
Still my favorite X-Men show next to Wolverine & The X-Men, which technically is kind of a successor to this show.....2000s nostalgia, trope subversions that works real well for the characters, and the adaptation of the X-Men's iconic relationships/friendhips from Kitty & Kurt to Logan & Rogue, only thing that was missing is Kitty x Colossus romance
Growing up I just caught random episodes of the original 1992 X-Men show, but I mostly loved it. Now I'm almost finished going through the entire series on Disney+, and it... does not hold up as well as I remember. Evolution, on the other hand, yeah it has a rough start, but when it picks up, it gets great and stays that way unlike the wildly inconsistent quality of the original show.
This was the definitive X-Men for me too, likely released to capitalize on the first film's success. High school is in a way the perfect environment to examine the details of bigotry and ostracism and how to combat it. It's where everyone gets forcibly organized into peer groups based on stuff as trivial as hair color, voice, fashion or glasses, so one can imagine how much of an impact mutant powers make. Funny how David Kaye voices both Professor X and Apocalypse, the main hero and the ultimate villain... though I'll always know him best as Megatron.
X-men evolution is something I ca relate too alot even when I was younger. I can because I'm a black student in America; I've faced discrimination from my teachers, Faculty, parents, and other students. Because of it I started my school's first people of color student union. Looking back this show may have had a sub couscous influence on me, and I'm happy it did.
I absolutely adore this show. There's so many great things about it that I could list off, but I'm just gonna leave it at three of my favorite parts: 1) the Project Rebirth episode that included Logan recalling when he fought alongside Captain America during WWII and liberating a concentration camp (while also saving a young Magneto) is probably top 5 episodes for me because it involves my top two favorite Marvel Comics characters in a "simpler" time ("Simpler" meaning significantly fewer superpowered individuals (I'm still waiting for a proper Invaders adaptation)) 2) (and I only just realized this after rewatching the show recently) the Pharoh that Apocalypse usurps back in ancient Egypt was actually Kang the Conqueror (as Rama-Tut is one of Kang's variants) which is an awesome tie-in 3) (and this is probably the biggest one for me) the introduction of X-23. I've noticed that not a lot of people know this, but X-23's first EVER appearance was in this show, not in a comic. She went from an original character in an early 2000's cartoon to, now, an iconic member of the X-Men in the comics (thanks in part to Dafne Keen's portrayal of her in Logan) Literally the only thing missing from this show (in my opinion) is Dazzler (who is one of my favorite mutants)
I grew up with this series and I loved it. One of my favorite versions of the team, Nightcrawler, Cyclopes, Avalanche, Kitty, Storm and especially Wolverine. I love his orange suit so much.
All the current X-men writers could learn a lot from this show since they clearly have not been reading the old comic books. I also loved the fact the made Magma/Amara brown; I had serious problems with Chris Claremont’s ancient Roman civilization living in the middle of the Amazon jungle. It taught social lesson through empathy and inspiration rather than preaching. This cartoon will always hold a special place in my heart.
This show was (is) like a fundamental part of almost everyone born between late 90's and late 2000's here in Brazil (a certainty in lunch times) and it represents a lot of my childhood, personally. It's always good to see someone valuing and remembering this show.
I've always thought this show was the most underrated X-men show as it had the most human and relatable depictions of the X-men despite how a little boring the high school aspects were at moments in the first season, even though the show really got to be more interesting and complex over the course of the other 2 seasons. This show also had my favourite take on Cyclops and how he was genuinely an honest and likeable guy (RIP Kirby Morrow (1973-2020)). This show while not as bombastically imaginative/politically impactful as the 90's show, or as rich in storytelling as Wolverine & The X-men, I still think this show had the most human and relatable depictions of the X-men, which is what made the X-men so popular, to begin with, and despite some flaws, I genuinely did enjoy this show. BTW this show also made Toad my favourite character.
Agreed. I also think this show did a better job portraying the prejuice and discrimination the x-men deal. The idea of heroes dealing with this type of distrust is not actually something new in the Marvel universe. Even characters like Spider Man and the Hulk aren't that popular. This is where high school scenario worked for the show. While I also found weird at first (why did the X-men went to a regular school? their home is called Xavier SCHOOL) it later when the x-men are expose as mutants. They aren't just heroes suffering discrimination just from random citzen they save, but also from people they interact in their personal lifes. Their status in school were affected by their revelation (ex: Jean and Spike could no longer participate in sports because people accuse them of cheating; Kurt spend most season 3 in conflict about interacting with his friend in public, risking expose himself as mutant). "this show also made Toad my favourite character" Same, as well all the members of the brothehood. Good that the show actually finally gave the members of the brotherhood personality and made them actually likable, rather than just focusing on one or two specific members (usually Mystique, Destiny and Rogue) and have the rest just being henchmen for the x-men punch like in the 90's and Wolverine and the X-men.
Appreciated the little hints to Remy x Rogue’s relationship, especially in Cajun Spice-just a full-on episode dedicated to them. Also the little hints to Kitty x Piotr, although those were more subtle but still apparent since Kitty had the thing with Lance at the time. Also want to mention Logan x Storm. Just how Logan cares for Storm when she’s taken in S2 E7 or in distress from her claustrophobia in S4 E7. There wasn’t anything official as far as I know, but after seeing them together in the 90s X-Men show as well as some comic runs, I started shipping them together. They just seem like a healthier, happier couple.
I remember only one single hint of Kitty/Piotr, when they were looking into the pyramids and Kurt was wary of him because he was still one of the "Acolytes" (but unlike the others, seems like Colossus was coerced with threats to his family), so Kitty just said that he seemed nice? Do remind me if I've forgotten some ^^
@@randallflagg3700 this video shows all of Colossus & Shadowcat’s moments in the show. From what I remember, I think it’s most of them. The other slight possible nod is Prof. X’s glimpse into the future where they’re standing next to each other. Here you go: ruclips.net/video/_iloHVEmKhg/видео.html
@@mahega128 - Thanks! I just rewatched the glimpse into the future, and Kitty is indeed standing in front of Colossus, but it's less significant than all the stuff that happened under the pyramids... Thing is, when I watched this cartoon the first time, it was with the French dub (I didn't really have a choice, but it was still pretty damn good; and they kept the same voice actors for "Wolverine and the X-Men", which was a nice bonus) and in it she doesn't give him a cute name like "softy", she just says that he seems nice... I guess that stuck with me? Merci, au revoir o/
The writers said that if they got a 5th Season, they would have killed Jean after the Phoenix Saga and put Scott with Rogue. Guess her and Gambit weren't going to work out.
I literally JUST watched this show for the FIRST time in its ENTIRETY last week on HBO Max. This show was REALLY good👌💯. Wouldn't mind a continuation even though I don't trust those AT ALL today cause it would be BUTCHERED by people who DONT understand that people are MORE than their SURFACE LEVEL😭 Also Evan DESERVED a PROPER Comic iteration and not that horrible character that really wasn't even him And the ending of what COULD have been where we see all the characters grow was bitter sweet😭
The X-Men are just so iconic, I grew up with Wolverine and the X-Men but I feel like whichever adaptation you grew up with, having them in your life is does wonders for you (and yeah, Emma Frost definitely jump started my adolescence)
This show had a great ending to me, everything seemed to wrap up nicely, and this version of Apocalypse is probably my favorite, he feels like such a presence that can't be touched, and they couldn't even beat him head on in a fight but they had to trap him and seal him away again, great villain to end things on.
You really nailed everything that's great about this show. Particularly the magic of the day in the life aspect. I just finished the series after seeing a number of episodes intermittently as a kid and throughout my life, and I'm so glad it exists and so glad there are so many others who feel the same way I do about this show and what it gave us. Long live X-Men: Evolution.
I enjoyed this series. One moment that stuck out to me was after the cast is exposed as mutants, one of the students tries to force a friendship with one of them. Turned out he was one of the "outcast" students that got teased and bullied and wanted a mutant friend to protect them. It was still awful what he did, but in a different way and I'm glad they did that. When I was in high school I might have done something similar since I'm not good at making friends and might try to hang out with those I saw as "comrades in arms".
X-Men Evolution is not only my favourite X-Men Cartoon, but it's also one of my top 5 favourite Superhero Cartoons of all time, alongside X-Men TAS, Spider-Man TAS, TMNT 2003 and Avengers EMH.
Great choices. My top 5 would be this 5 Young Justice 4 Batman Brave and the Bold 3 Avengers Earth Mightest Heroes 2 Spectacular Spider Man 1 Justice League Unlimited
@@alexandrefrauches132 Thanks. :) You have a great list too. I forgot to mention my honourable mentions would be Teen Titans 2003, Wolverine and the X-Men and The Batman
Hell yeah!! This (and Avatar - the last airbender) was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE show as a kid!! ❤ It was also my introduction to the X Men. My favorite character was Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler & my 2nd favorite was Kitty Pride/Shadowcat.
Been a minute since I clicked a video so hard. X men evolution is the standard for me. Even then I was aware that the lore isn't 1:1, I couldn't care less. It quickly becomes so much more than "what if high school".
Even though it’s hidden within a pretty unforgettable ep. The scene of rogue and kitty dancing together - which is one of many homages to Buffy the vampire slayer - is iconic to me across all versions of X-men tv movies comics etc. the animation is so fluid, the music is perfect for the time period, and the youthful exuberance of the two characters just bursts through the screen IMO.
The best thing this show did was make me realize how cool Cyclops can be. He’s the leader for reasons that no on screen portrayal, except for this show, was able to convey. He’s not perfect but you believe why the team trusts and defers to him. Even Logan in this show eventually let’s Cyc call the shots. Kirby Morrow’s portrayal was also a big part of this. He sounded less like the blowhard we got in the 90’s show and more like a someone you can trust to call the shots. He was stern on the field but he had this warmth to him that Kirby brought out beautifully. Plus, I love the theme song. It’s still my favorite, at a time I didn’t think I’d love any theme more than the 90’s one. We also all love Goth Rogue, c’mon now. Butt chin or not, she was great
Evolution is the first time I’ve really believed that the X-Men are actually a family (or at least friends who love each other). The creators really prioritized inter-personal relationships, and the amount of downtime we spend with them does wonders to make them feel real.
Seasons 1 and 2 of this show were core memories for me, along with some Season 3 ones. I started to get through them all on Prime Video when they were still free to watch in August 2020. Then stopped after like 7 episodes. Then finished off all the others from November to January 2021. Bloody damn good television! And you are succinct and eloquent as always, Impy!
The concept isn’t like weird alternate versions of the characters like Baby Looney Tunes for example Where they’re basically the same characters just made babies This is a real show with real characters it doesn’t feel less then any other X-Men show unlike a show Ironman Armoured adventures
I liked this X-Men show. This was one of my favorite superhero shows growing up. Right behind shows in the early 2000’s like Justice League, Spectacular Spider-Man, Static Shock, and Teen Titans.
My sister and I grew up watching this on Netflix, but they didn't have the whole show. I'm pretty sure they only had the first two seasons. It wasn't until I saw someone else make a video about the show that had clips I'd never seen before that I realized I only saw half the series
Did Anyone ever notice the Brotherhood boys (including Scarlet Witch) just always had to be the hard luck cases. Bad families, tattered clothes, didnt fit in. Sure bad boy behavior didn't help but its like they never really got a chance.
@@ShadowSonic2 yes cykes and havoc were orphans, but they were adooted by nice families. Blob was a literal sideshow freak, Toad was a kid who literally eats bugs.
@@dariusthurman8835 It's probably why they stopped trying to make the Brotherhood out to be actual villains after S1. Aside from Quicksilver, none of them really had evil tendencies.
I watched this video after seeing a relatively negative overview of this series. It's refreshing to see such a positive take on a show that meant so much to me during my childhood.
I am one of those people who grew up on the earlier 90s cartoons, and remember rolling my eyes and changing the channel most of the time this came on, BUT I have seen people sing its praises or remember it nostalgically so I can appreciate its importance. Videos like this certainly show this was far more than I'd thought.
@@lightheart5 That was one aspect that kept me away. Having seen the 90s TAS, it felt weird to see them as teens, even though I know that is an important part of X-Men history (and they keep going back to the teen well, whether with New Mutants or whoever).
I had the privilege of growing up with both the X-mem cartoons and too do this day, I still couldn't tell you if I liked one better than the other. So gutted it got cancelled. Honestly, it was so amazing and I really loved their version of Logan and of course, the creation of X23!
I might actually give Evolution a watch now. The high school thing through me off as it felt like everything was trying to be Spectacular Spider-Man. Cough cough Iron man armored adventures with a teenage Tony Stark. Also a bit of a long shot but would love you to do a video on “The Batman 2004” if possible
Ah and yes, this show made me fall head-over-heels in love Cyclops and this is the version I hold against all other depictions. I know there's a lot of WATM love, but I hated how the movies really impacted how they showed Cyclops from then on.
X-Men, Batman, Pokémon, Digimon and X-Men Evolution helped me through a lot in the late 90s and 2000. Learned to grieve learned to do the right thing helped when I was going through things and felt good to see the characters going with similar problems
I actually think having the team be similar in age and development was an interesting choice: having everyone introduced in the first season, versus years apart like in the comics allowed us to remove elements of each character that were products of their time and allow for some excellent writing. Having this premise, instead of being inspired by the main timeline allowed for some great ideas, and it made characters like Gene so much more interesting. Removing some main timeline story events like Kitty being possessed by a ninja and Rogue almost killing Miss Marvel allow this to see how they measured up to their teammates without getting those power boosts.
glad someone else out there loves xmen: evolution as well...when it came out there was a majorly heated controversy cuz it wasnt like the 90s version or the comics...siggghhhh...
I broke down crying watching X 23 say "you don't understand" and Logan hugs hur and says "I'm the only one who understands" My favorite episode and favorite scene in the show
Having started rewatching this series with a friend who's never seen it, the show is WAY more powerful than I remembered it being, and amazingly, kind of a window of things to come for marginalized groups, especially the young people in those groups. It really knew how to handle the nuances of things without being heavy handed moral takes other shows may use (my favorite example being Nightcrawler's subplot in the post-president's speech episode you mentioned.) Great video overall!
You're not alone. I LOVE X-Men Evolution too. It's one of my favourite Superhero Cartoons alongside Spider-Man TAS, TMNT 2003, Avengers EMH, Ben 10 (Classic + Alien Force), Teen Titans 2003, The Batman 2004, X-Men TAS and Sonic X (Honourable Mention: Spider-Man 2017). I know some of my picks are controversial, but I'm just being honest with you and myself.
OMG you can’t even IMAGINE my appreciation to you bringing this show into the spotlight! it was my first introduction to the x-men as a kid and for the longest time, i thought that this was the most canon version of the x-men characters; come to find out, the comic book and movie versions are VERY different. bias aside, i feel like it’s the BEST interpretation of the x-men, not only character and narrative-wise but also DESIGN as well. i feel like the show took the source material of its predecessors and improved on it SO MUCH: there was no longer a stupid love triangle between scott, jean and logan, jean and scott actually had chemistry and likable personalities, and they turned the comic book’s version of avalanche into a cooler more chad lance alvers. every other version of x-men media paled in comparison because this show set my standards for the x-men so high. i would have LOVED to see them introduce emma frost and have more of gambit, but unfortunately, they never got another season. recently, i’ve been rewatching this show (as well as wolverine and the x-men) on disney+, and although it’s unlikely, i hope they either continue the show or make another animated x-men show. many of my friends were fans of the avengers, but the x-men were MY avengers.
I wish more people would give props to this show. Everybody loves the original 90s X-men cartoon, but where that show is pretty much non stop action, adapting comic arc after comic arc, Evolution was down to earth, and better for it. The characters are all very endearing/relatable, and my favorite episodes were always the ones that had them spending time with each other, dealing with interpersonal problems, not saving the world. Honestly, more superheroes would benefit from taking after Spider-man in the way Evolution and Batman Beyond did.
Scott was my favorite character on this show. It really showed the qualities of a good leader. The love triangle between Scott/Jean/Rogue was very well done, but, I honestly really enjoyed his dynamic with Rogue more than Jean. Had the show continued, he would've gotten with Rogue
@@Benshavit493 nope. Gambit is a whole ass adult while Rogue is a teenager. That's why they did that episode with them. To show that it was never going to happen. Besides, Rogue liked someone else already and judging by that shot of the Future X-Men, Cyclops and Rogue would've been a couple after Jean died
Nice reflection. X-Men Evolution was great and very underrated. It was its own pocket universe but did a lot of things right in its own way. Just a note, at 5:37 you go through a list of characters and mention Rogue twice, which is fine cos Rogue has arguably the biggest character depth and growth.
Dude you just unlocked a core memory for me wow I remember watching this show, it was a source of comfort for me growing up due to bullying I experienced in school
Laura taking down the entire school, was just such a Wolverine way of introducing her character. Like a clone… It sure was a bummer, that we didn’t get to see them as their powers were becoming full, and the bigger threats coming into the picture. Goth Rogue did look a bit like an animated version of girl I went to high school with, though I didn’t really care for the way they tried to make Wanda the bad girl version.
It's so sad that this is the most overlooked in terms of x men stories Sure the first season and most of the second is a high school story but by the s2 finale it fully embraces all the x men lessons "stuff of heroes" is one of my favourite episodes with the morals it has X men evolution needs more attention and I would like to take this moment to mourn Kirby Morrow (Voice of Cyclops) He has created many childhoods with his countless voice and did it pheonamonely.
I love X-men evolution so much I'm recently watching the 90s X-men show for the first time and yeah it's really great I've finished season 1,2,3 and now I'm on the fourth season
Me too. X-Men Evolution's actually one of my favourite Superhero Animated Shows alongside Spider-Man TAS, TMNT (2003), Avengers EMH, Teen Titans (2003), The Batman (2004), X-Men TAS, and Ben 10 (2005).
This is my favorite version of X Men and I still have a huge soft spot on my heart for it. I rewatched it over COVID shut down for the first time in forever and it's so goofy but I can't help but love it. I'm still holding out for a reboot of some sort
According to the writers, this is what we would have seen had the show not been cancelled: - Introduction of Emma Frost, Psylocke and Deadpool. - The Dark Phoenix Saga which ends with Jean's death. - Magneto's redemption arc. - Kurt stops wearing the image inducer. - Colossus, X-23 and Gambit join the X-Men. - The Brotherhood joins SHIELD as the Freedom Force (basically the Marvel equivalent of Suicide Squad). - Days of Future Past. - Principal Kelly becomes Mayor Kelly and eventually Senator Kelly. Honestly, Evolution deserves a revival much more than X-Men TAS.
If the X-men end up introduce in the MCU in the future, I really hope Feige take some inspiration from Evolution, since the show had some very cool ideas that could be used in films: 1) The x-men being teenagers would allow the story to show them growing through the films, as well making a good reference to the classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby stories from the 60's. 2) Having some X-men like Storm and Beast working in the Xavier school as teachers could allow the film to use other mutants without needing to take away focus from the main ones (ex: Beast could be introduce as one the teacher but not participate in the action scenes, only helping the team with gadgets and advices. Plus, with each MCU film having it's own style, the MCU X-men being divided between teachers and students could make their films the MCU equivalent of My Hero Academy. 3) The whole Apocalypse arc could easly be adapt into the "Infinity War/Endgame" of the MCU X-men film, with each one building towards their big conflict with the ancient mutant. 4) The idea of Xavier and the X-men being expose to the public as mutants could be a great plot for their first film: It could show the mutants slowly appearing in the MCU films/series (Ms Marvel and Namor were already two confirmed mutants) and causing humanity to be divided. Some are ok with them while other fear and distrust the mutants. The MCU X-men could start trying to stop a conflict between the two sides while pretending to be "normal heroes" (like the avengers) but in the end they end up expose and now have to deal with the consequence of keeping this secret. 5) Logan saving Magneto during the WWII could easly become an episode or plot for series/film focusing on Logan past (maybe with Steve Rogers or Bucky cameo) and also result in scene where Magneto, in the present, saves Logan's life, saying that this is "the thanks from a boy he saved year's ago in Poland".
Everyone wants the story in itself to continue, but me personally, I just want to see this version of the brotherhood get their redemption arc. In my opinion this show did the impossible by turning your typical cookie cutter bad guys and making them nearly as fun to watch as the main cast. Especially this version of Avalanche.
That’s what I’m talking about! I hope the MCU goes this route! Have them be young, Wolverine not into Jean, and even tho this screams made in the 2000s it feels more modern day than the 90s series.
I think Kevin feigi should take inspiration from this show. When he get around takling the x-men he should do 2 things: -keep the x-men superhero team for the movies - do a Disney + show titled "the Xavier Institute" a school type drama show that deals with the everyday life of the mutants teenagers living in the mantion
On one hand feigi does change things and has hire ups suits to answer to, on The other he usually really gets the source material. However with how fucking dumb the vocal fandom is wanting classics back I honestly think they'll do more of a x'90s style than this underrated show Who knows all I want is then to feel like a found family a group of young people with troubles that grow into teachers for the other kids with troubles. And not wolverine being cool and the others being cardboard cutoutd

Ok imma go on a Cyclops tangent real quick:
This iteration of Scott is just the best in all of media in my opinion.
Right there with you. Cyc and Kirby’s portrayal made me turn around on the character hugely as a kid.
The only non-comic version of Cyke actually done justice (except maybe the anime x-men version).
@@901Sherman He was better written in Evo that he was for most of the 80s, actually.
tbf, having wolverine be part of the love triangle would be kinda gross in this version.
@@animegamernerdo Yeah, instead they took out Logan and put Rogue in there...and somehow, NONE of the people involved came off as jerks.
This is literally my favorite portrayal of the X-Men in media. I know it’s an unpopular opinion since people usually favor the 90’s cartoon & live-action films-which I LOVE as well-but this has always taken my top spot.
Totally feel ya on that
Faiiiir; it feels sacrilegious to not claim the 90’s version as my all time favorite though
I agree I'd rly like to see it connected with AEMH and Spectacular Spider-Man. Also I never watched WatX is it connected to Evolution by any means?
@@wickedchild8501 it's like a spiritual successor. But it was kind of connected to EMH.
@@KingOfMadCows I see. I was just thinking of the possibility of rebooting it into the Yostverse as WatX prequel
@@wickedchild8501 i would have loved to see spectacular or evolutions art style on ethire side
I loved this show as a kid! I'm pretty sure X-23 was created for this show which I always thought was pretty cool
She was!
I loved how Logan was like an elder brother to scott, and father figure to kitty, rogue and x-23 you could see how much he cared about them, Also this is the best version of cyclops there has been
Scott's own relationships with Kurt, Alex and Rogue were very well done, humanized him tremendously.
This version of Wolverine is the definitive voice of him anytime I see his comics
My husband and I just recently finished ALL of the 90's xmen for the first time and I'm hoping to show him this show next
I grew up on this show, I remember coming home after school everyday and being excited to watch this, I'm glad someone else actually remembers this existing because it meant a lot to me
Me too 😊
I've been creating fanmade comics and novels for this cartoon for over a decade and these past few years it feels like the fandom really died out. I'm glad to see someone pick it up and dust it. Maybe Marvel becoming more mainstream means that a new generation will dig deeper, find this gem and hopefully the fandom cam be revived. Thanks for talking about it and shining some spotlight at this series
Where are your comics located? I would love to read them!
Yeah I’m interested as well!

I loved watching X-men Evolution as a kid, it was really like you grew up with the characters throughout the duration of the show.
To be fair, Colussus was an adult and she was still a teen...
Can't wait for upcoming X-men 97 the continuation of the 1992 X-men show.
Aside from Frank Welker, David Kaye is the true voice for Megatron.
Sub couscous? I thought you were black, not Arab ^^

I absolutely adore this show. There's so many great things about it that I could list off, but I'm just gonna leave it at three of my favorite parts:
1) the Project Rebirth episode that included Logan recalling when he fought alongside Captain America during WWII and liberating a concentration camp (while also saving a young Magneto) is probably top 5 episodes for me because it involves my top two favorite Marvel Comics characters in a "simpler" time ("Simpler" meaning significantly fewer superpowered individuals (I'm still waiting for a proper Invaders adaptation))
2) (and I only just realized this after rewatching the show recently) the Pharoh that Apocalypse usurps back in ancient Egypt was actually Kang the Conqueror (as Rama-Tut is one of Kang's variants) which is an awesome tie-in
3) (and this is probably the biggest one for me) the introduction of X-23. I've noticed that not a lot of people know this, but X-23's first EVER appearance was in this show, not in a comic. She went from an original character in an early 2000's cartoon to, now, an iconic member of the X-Men in the comics (thanks in part to Dafne Keen's portrayal of her in Logan)
Literally the only thing missing from this show (in my opinion) is Dazzler (who is one of my favorite mutants)
An X-Men show where Logan isn't trying to get in Jeans pants and makes him the adult. They really pushed the boat out with this series.
I loved this show. To me this is the best X-Men series and the best adaptation we have ever seen from the X-Men in TV and Movies.
I’m with ya
I grew up with this series and I loved it.
One of my favorite versions of the team, Nightcrawler, Cyclopes, Avalanche, Kitty, Storm and especially Wolverine. I love his orange suit so much.
I always thought it made him look like a tiger and I love that.
@@StoryGirl17 I never noticed that but yeah
@@mandalorianhunter1 Well back then, I always thought that he is supposed to symbolize a tiger, and Saberthoot a lion
I grew up watching both and I agree they were super entertaining ! Thanks for this essay brings back a bunch of memories.
This was my favorite show growing up. The nostalgia hitting me right now is nothing short of enormous
"this show also made Toad my favourite character"
Same, as well all the members of the brothehood. Good that the show actually finally gave the members of the brotherhood personality and made them actually likable, rather than just focusing on one or two specific members (usually Mystique, Destiny and Rogue) and have the rest just being henchmen for the x-men punch like in the 90's and Wolverine and the X-men.
X-Men evolution was so good
Appreciated the little hints to Remy x Rogue’s relationship, especially in Cajun Spice-just a full-on episode dedicated to them.
Here you go:

The X-Men are just so iconic, I grew up with Wolverine and the X-Men but I feel like whichever adaptation you grew up with, having them in your life is does wonders for you (and yeah, Emma Frost definitely jump started my adolescence)
Fun fact: this show is where x-23 first made her debut. Like Harley Quinn she first appeared in animation.

The concept isn’t like weird alternate versions of the characters like Baby Looney Tunes for example
Where they’re basically the same characters just made babies
This is a real show with real characters it doesn’t feel less then any other X-Men show unlike a show Ironman Armoured adventures
i love x-men evolution it was really awesome
I liked this X-Men show. This was one of my favorite superhero shows growing up. Right behind shows in the early 2000’s like Justice League, Spectacular Spider-Man, Static Shock, and Teen Titans.

This was a treat to watch, thanks for the nostalgia essay!
One of the most underrated shows, ever. Thank you for bringing it to more light.
I never liked the fact that the X-Men were portrayed as teenagers.

This show made me a fan of both Toad and Nightcrawler. Awesome interpretations.
Oddly enough, the "Teenage Tony Stark" thing was from a run in the 90s.
So underrated, I loved 97 but I also adored this show quite a bit.
One of the best cartoons and shows ever

Hell yeah a fellow evolution fan. This was my childhood team.
I broke down crying watching X 23 say "you don't understand" and Logan hugs hur and says "I'm the only one who understands"
My favorite episode and favorite scene in the show
I didn’t watch that many episodes of this show when I was younger, but I liked the show’s art style.
Having started rewatching this series with a friend who's never seen it, the show is WAY more powerful than I remembered it being, and amazingly, kind of a window of things to come for marginalized groups, especially the young people in those groups. It really knew how to handle the nuances of things without being heavy handed moral takes other shows may use (my favorite example being Nightcrawler's subplot in the post-president's speech episode you mentioned.)
Great video overall!
I love X-Men Evolution, thanks for this great review!
I think they set up Rouge to be with gambit
I demand they finish this show someday 😭😭😭
Laura taking down the entire school, was just such a Wolverine way of introducing her character.
Like a clone…
It sure was a bummer, that we didn’t get to see them as their powers were becoming full, and the bigger threats coming into the picture.
Goth Rogue did look a bit like an animated version of girl I went to high school with, though I didn’t really care for the way they tried to make Wanda the bad girl version.
WE NEED MORE X MEN CONTENT PLEASE
The 90’s show alone could get you half a year worth of vidoes, EASY
It's so sad that this is the most overlooked in terms of x men stories
Sure the first season and most of the second is a high school story but by the s2 finale it fully embraces all the x men lessons "stuff of heroes" is one of my favourite episodes with the morals it has
X men evolution needs more attention and I would like to take this moment to mourn Kirby Morrow (Voice of Cyclops)
He has created many childhoods with his countless voice and did it pheonamonely.
I wouldn't say totally overlooked. More stuff from this show ended up making it to the comics than from the others.
I love X-men evolution so much I'm recently watching the 90s X-men show for the first time and yeah it's really great I've finished season 1,2,3 and now I'm on the fourth season
Xmen evolution doesn't talk about too often, but is quite special when does up in discussion.
I love this show…🔥🔥
Well damn kid... Just hit me in the feels. Well done, Good sir!
According to the writers, this is what we would have seen had the show not been cancelled:
- Introduction of Emma Frost, Psylocke and Deadpool.
If the X-men end up introduce in the MCU in the future, I really hope Feige take some inspiration from Evolution, since the show had some very cool ideas that could be used in films:
1) The x-men being teenagers would allow the story to show them growing through the films, as well making a good reference to the classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby stories from the 60's.
This video is a masterpiece. So well constructed!
Loved watching Xmen Evolution growing up, definitely one of if not my favorite interpretation of the characters
This show was so underrated but it was such an awesome show. I wished it had more seasons
I think Kevin feigi should take inspiration from this show.
When he get around takling the x-men he should do 2 things:
-keep the x-men superhero team for the movies
- do a Disney + show titled "the Xavier Institute" a school type drama show that deals with the everyday life of the mutants teenagers living in the mantion
On one hand feigi does change things and has hire ups suits to answer to, on The other he usually really gets the source material.
However with how fucking dumb the vocal fandom is wanting classics back I honestly think they'll do more of a x'90s style than this underrated show
Who knows all I want is then to feel like a found family a group of young people with troubles that grow into teachers for the other kids with troubles.
And not wolverine being cool and the others being cardboard cutoutd
