  • You are driving your GR Yaris hard, tunnel vision activated, road flows beautifully and... GGGRRRRZZZZ the gearbox doesn't accept a gear!!
    If this issue has happened to You, or if you have seen a lot of engine movement upon acceleration and lift off, this video may be very useful to you!
    Full comparison of OEM and Cusco Pitch Stopper gearbox mount, including driving feedback from inside my own GR. Very satisfied with the result, can't wait to drive more!!

    I’ve been using the Cusco since 2021 and put 26000 very hard KM on the car with a lot of track events. I have even bottomed out the car on ripple strips and bent the cross member exactly in the middle where the torque mount fits, and there is zero deviation. It’s extremely good.

    I'm quite interested in this and will be interested to see how my stock one looks - but I do have a question.
    I have an early GR collected in Jan 2021 and now on 22k miles and I've rarely had shifting issues, but on track occasionally messing up into 3rd (which if I'm honest I suspect it down to me).
    Did Toyota change something in their QA process/specs?
    As I mentioned I'll be interested to see what mine it like when I change it a little later this year and it's possible I'm just used to it...

      Hello, nice to meet you!
      I believe the early cars had the most difficult gearboxes, while the later ones were better. I hope they improved things in the Gen.2 but have no confirmation

    as I mentioned on insta - i'm using powerflex racing line insert there. A bit more vibrations for me just adds sporty feel. Gear change is much more precise. I'm not too much confident with 4-to-5 fast gear change, but this is more to the huge hand move required, and here probably some short shift can help. Anyway such shift happens only once per lap on the main straight with my stock power engine, so does not affect lap time much.

    • @AJClubsport
      @AJClubsport  12 дней назад

      I heard about quite a few that are having the 4-5 gear change issue, but I never experienced it

  • @richardmueller6322
    @richardmueller6322 12 дней назад +1

    The inserts in the OEM torque mount together with inserts in engine and gearbox mounts completely fixed the issue for me. Torque mount inserts are from Whiteline, gearbox and engine from Powerflex (I believe). I do feel more vibration in the car, but got used to it. It is only in the lower rev range.

    • @richardmueller6322

      Forgot to add, I use aluminium inserts where the gearshift mechanism meets the gearbox.

    • @AJClubsport
      @AJClubsport  12 дней назад

      Yes, I also have the aluminium inserts in the gearshift mechanism. Your setup is similar to mine, only difference is the aftermarket torque mount, as I have seen in the past that inserts wear over time.
      Thankyou for sharing!

    Hi Adriano,
    I am sure the cusco works well. I have installed the airtec torque mount with the purple powerflex inlet. Works also very well. The vibrations I can feel, but it's o.k. The weight is higher than the cusco. I will see how long it works. The mean problem I think we have is when the motor and gear are hot, it comes from the front torque mounts left and right in the engine room. The rubber at high temperature lets the engine move between 5 and 8 cm. It's easy to find out when you deinstall the cusco middle torque mount, you have installed. It's 50% better but not perfect. Maybe you can find out and make a video about what's best torque mounts to install in the front. I know the powerflex inlets to put in the OEM torque mounts, but I have not installed them. Next engineering work for you😊.
    Regard Holger from Germany

      @AJClubsport  12 дней назад

      Hello Holger, thankyou for sharing! I already have the Powerflex Black inserts in both the engine side and gearbox side mounts, and they make a very good difference, at a price of much increased vibration

  • @dvim
    @dvim 10 дней назад +1

    A year ago I tried the Airtec torque mount with the softest plastic insert. However the vibration inside the car were a bit too much since I daily drive the car. The vibration was especially prominent at a couple of specific RPM values, one around 3000RPM and then another at 2400RPM I think. When accelerating, the car would shiver at these RPMs and the whole inside would rattle. I was not impressed. :) Did you feel any increased vibration at a specific RPM with the Cusco mount?

    • @AJClubsport
      @AJClubsport  10 дней назад +1

      Hello mate, thankyou for the very precise insight! The biggest difference I feel is at idle, no changes thru the rev range.
      But I also have Powerflex Black inserts in engine and gearbox mounts…
      My suggestion is that if the NVH is very important for you, maybe it will be best to stay stock. Any mount will introduce increased vibrations. Good mounts will be more linear, but we have a 3 cylinder car, that is the most unbalanced engine possible

    Hi Adriano,
    great video once again!
    The torque mount was one of the first "mods" I did to my GR Yaris.
    I went for the purple DNA Racing one, very happy and no problems so far.
    For the upper engine & upper gearbox mount, I went with the yellow PowerFlex ones.
    Probably will upgrade to black ones soonish.

    Are you saying you re-torqued it after each of 3 heat cycles? I had this part installed and the vibration was always terrible and after a few months I went back to stock mount with Whiteline upgraded rubber/neoprene insert. The original oem bush in my stock car was already ripped to pieces when i changed it after only ~5000kms!

    • @AJClubsport
      @AJClubsport  12 дней назад +1

      No retorquing mate, it is that you have to drive the car very hard, so it heat cycles the rubber from extremely hot to cool for 2/3 times

    • @zion168

      @AJClubsport Can't you just heat cycle the rubber part with a heat gun before installation? A noob question, sorry😅

      Another great update AJ, good to see it's a steel construction, never understand Ali on a fast road car.
      I had mine into the dealers early on for adjustment after watching your early video on this.
      I was struggling to go from 1st to 2nd, but this would go after the oil warmed up.
      It came out a little more improved but the issue returned, I still get the odd clunk from 1st to 2nd as if it's a synchro, but once fully warmed up it clears.
      Do they do this part in black, hate these bright colours on parts, just attracts attention if your in for MOT or inspection, just me being old lol.
      Regards Russ....
