I've been shooting a 43# version for about a year now. The bow is very fast, accurate and still looks as good as when I got it. Its capable of some very long distances. I love mine.
I've had my Scythian for almost 6 years. 50# at 27". It was my first bow after practicing with a friends longbow and it has remained my favorite I've ever shot. It's ruined all other bows for me because it's just so amazing. I don't shoot as much as I used to, but it served me well for daily shooting for 4 years as well as some small game hunting. It's got unrivaled durability and I've recommended it to everyone. It's loosed literally hundreds of thousands of arrows in its life and still a trusty bow. Just took it to the range yesterday for a bit of goofing around and as usual, everyone is envious. It's just one of the best primitive bows you can get imo.
@@Marcfasel I'm STILL shooting with it. Going on 9 years and this is still my favorite. Sarmat's Hankyu has been a rival, though, but just because it's such a different style of archery so it's a fun challenge. But yeah. Scythian bow. Pushing a decade of consistent use with minimal wear and tear over the years. Just had it out yesterday, still shoots like a dream, and is reliably accurate as always.
@@agentnine3973 Yup!! I have used a variety of arrows, always wood, from different vendors and craftsmen. My favorites have been by the Darr's at Whippoorwill Archery. They travel to renaissance festivals on USA east coast and I've found their arrows are reliable, good quality, and a good price. I would not, however, recommend their bows.
I fell in love with this bow, after watching your review. It looks gorgeous. Ordered one @ 40lb. It's just arrived in the UK after just 4 days. Very excited :)
Hi, I am going to start archery after a few years break and I have come to the conclusion that I prefer historical bows over the olimpic variation. I think this bow will do, it's gorgeous hands down. Not even that expensive either
Thanks for posting this review Armin. I contacted Andrea Kaffka at Flagella Dei. He sent me a black mamba scythian bow at 25 lbs. I so like this bow. That i now have asked Andrea to make me another that is stronger. This has arrived now and is another lovely bow. If any one is reading this. Armin has done a few very good reviews of this bow. I have been doing archery since 1989
i have had one of these for about two and a half years now, 45lb, black poplar and it remains one of my favourite bows, I've shot thousands of arrows through it and had thousands of smiles along the way. Beginners bow? No, just a great bow. If it ever fails I WILL buy a replacement
I learned with a FD Scythian bow with 26#, it's my first bow and I love it. My second bow is a FD Sioux 35#, I love it too. Now I shoot my own self made black locust bow with 40# but sometime I take either one or the other because I like these Flagella Dei bow very very much.
I bought a 45lb Version of the bow in Zebra Wood (Zebrano) a little over a year ago and took it hunting with me last fall, let me say this, it doesn't disappoint... I made my first kill using thumb draw and the arrow passed straight through. It was an 8 point Mule Deer buck that weighed a little over 180 lbs./81.6kg. Dressed out. I took it at approximately 25yds/22.86 meters... I still have about a third of it in my friends Meat locker :-)
Hi Armin. I have recently bought this bow second hand, it is 37#. What can I do to get rid of annoying twang of the string? When I had string silencers on, it was ok, but they shouldn't really be there, right? Any advise? Different string material? Bracing height? Thanks in advance.
I am torn between buying this bow and the Grozer Old Scythian (it costs a bit more but appears to me to more accurately represent the shape of Scythian bows shown in ancient artistic depictions). Price aside, which of the two bows would you recommend? (Or, if you prefer not to compare them directly, could you at least speak to the pros and cons of the Grozer?) Blessings, and thank you for your excellent videos!
Only if you suck at the craft. Practice enough and that doesn't happen except for rare occasions when the situation sometimes causes a good dump of adrenalin. If you're not hunting, then it's not likely to be a problem.
Thank you Armin I just started learning archery this past January I have gone from one bow to 14 bows, are there books/videos you would recommend to learn from, I am interested in learning more about horseback archery and horseback bows my bows are mainly Bear traditional recurves from the 50s 60s 70s again thank you for your help and very insightful videos
Hi Bo. Chinese Archery by Stephen Selby is a nice one, there is one about Lajos Kassai, very interesting. I am not so mu into books, thats why it is hard for me to tell. There are surely some horseback archery gross on Facebook. Maybe you want to place your question there? thank you
I am in the United States in Kentucky. The Flagella dei website will not let me order the Scythian bow. Or any bow. Can u send a link. In English or Translate their website
A smaller version of a yumi would not allow the same draw length, so I wouldn't recommend one for practice. If you just want something (fairly) inexpensive with longer draw that is shorter than a standard yumi, a Manchu bow would probably be your best bet. Alibow has one for $150, maximum draw length 35", maximum draw weight 50# (measured at 35"). It is about 147 cm (58" or so) when strung, so the top tip would be about half of that above your hand while holding it. If you just want something similar to a yumi but don't mind shorter draw length, Sarmat Archery makes Hankyu (smaller sized yumi) in 59", 68", and 71" lengths. Do note that these are still pretty large, especially above the hand, and that they don't allow longer draw (especially with higher draw weights).
Would it be possible to put the link for this exact bow in the video description, I've visited their site before when you have reviewed bows but I wasn't sure which was the one you were using was. good to know that higher # does not produce hand shock. thank you

Not sure with the stringer which has pockets. One with two loops for sure

Do you need handguard to protect hand from fletching?
no, when you nock the arrow slightly higher then ninety degrees

great enjoy the bow and yes, you will need at least 400 - 450 grn arrows

Wood arrows spined 50-55# carbon 500 spine. I would go with roughly 10gpp
