- This is a 5-minute video showing the quick steps needed to remove your Honda BF50 and other series 4-stroke carburetors in order to perform a carb cleaning job. In only a few minutes you can have your carbs removed and sitting on the bench ready to clean saving you hundreds in shop time. I was quoted $850 to perform this work and decided to figure it out on my own and its really not difficult at all and only requires simple tools.

What is the part that you are unbolting at the 30 second mark? Also, does this part need a washer on both sides? How tight do you tighten it down?
Hi there I've the same motor and I'm getting water in the oil could this be caused by water leaking from manifold?
You mentioned you were having issues with cold start valve and fixed with a spring. What issue were you having?
I consult you I have a 50 hp honda I changed all the jets and when I accelerate the engine trembles and I take 3 turns out of each carburetor that I would have to do

i have a bf30d and i have to do the 100 hour service. on the manual there is written "check-adjust carburator linkage".
at what part do i have to look exactly and what do i have to keep in mind?"

I am sure they are just referring to the spring loaded arms on each of the carbs. I highly doubt that you would have any issues with those. Just do a visual inspection and you should be fine.

How did you get that fuel line (the one you forgot about) back on?
You can slide it back on just as you go to reinstall the carb assembly. Use needle nose to push it back in place and then attack the carb assembly.
Is it possible that if the carb gasket was bad water could get into the oil
A mechanic that did my head gasket which didn’t fix water in oil issue claimed the carb side gasket could also be the issue
I don’t see how or why water could go in on the carb side??
I’ll be honest engines aren’t my strong point but I know a little to get basic things done. It’s seems unlikely a carb gasket would cause water in oil. It’s mostly likely head gasket or a corroded/bad intake manifold. No water in your fuel tank ??
have a question,,, just today I reinstalled my freshly cleaned carb set, replaced most of the jets etc, now I feel I should mention Im not a novice and have worked on engines most of my life , Im now retired and in my sixties , so not ny first rodeo,
anyway,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, just installed the carb set,, I have to admit I did not change the intake manifold , but felt it would be ok, and hope Im wrong,,,lol I also need to mention this engine was running perfecttly I have over 150 psi in all cyl and used it on a regular basis with no issues except some carb quirks which I had hoped to fix with this job. when done with the install , I fired up the engine and to my surprise was running on only 2 cyl, the top and the center not sure which number that is,, but the lower one was dead, had spark, has compression, but somehow when I removed the spark plug the engine was pushing water through it, and also my engine oil is a milk shake,, this all happened in about 45 seconds, wtf,,,, I guess the intake gasket caused this, it explains why water is being sucked in , but the oil??? any thoughts on this?? thanks Bill
Hard to diagnose without having seen the work being done. You didn’t have that issue prior to doing the jets and seals ? I would start with the intake gasket and check and recheck everything was installed properly. Head gasket ?

ok just want to follow up on my above issue with reinstalling the carb set. First of all, I have to stress no matter how much you think your intake gasket is ok, just change it,, what happened to me, thank God was fixable read my question above,
A slight imperfection on the lower part of my intake gasket caused the lower carburetor to suck coolant from the engine into the carb manifold , and shut down that cylinder and not only that, it somehow filled the engine crank with water, and thats not good, I resolved it quickly with making a new gasket and problem solved, but it could have been catastrophic ,,, all because I thought it would be ok, I was dead wrong,,, shit happens,, the good news is the engine and carbs are performing well, again great vid, and your video was instrumental to me understanding those carbs a little better, I also installed nice racors to each tank and I have two, so I dont plan on having any funk going it the carbs,, and never use ethanol fuel, I go out of my way to buy only NON ethanol,
Damn. Glad you had the knowledge to notice the issue quickly. Most people would just keep running it hoping it would go away.
