Dear Sir, Thank you so much for giving your knowledge freely. I just bought my boat 3 months ago and was a little intimidated until I saw how easy you made it. I have a 50 HP Honda, 4 stroke engine. I owe you a beer if I ever get to Canada. Your American friend.-Paul
This was so helpful. Thank you. I got my first Honda 50hp outboard and winterized it myself. I had a Mercury 49 b4 that I winterized. I did the fogging oil spray as well. I learned alot from your video.
Excellent tutorial with incredible detail. I just inherited a 10 year old pontoon boat that I had the whole topside remodeled and had the Honda 50hp serviced too, but I have now moved it closer to where I live and wanted to maintain it myself as much as possible. It's been years since I've had a boat and videos like this give me confidence that with proper service this pontoon will give my family years of pleasure. Thank you !!
The place when I get my motor serviced they run 5 gallons of anti freeze through the system, it’s on my bill. $155.00 for oil and filter change. To me it sounds like a rip off.
Very usefull video. Great filming and you explained it short and precisely - very professional, thank you! Do you have a video of replacing imppellers on a honda 4 stroke engine. I have a Honda BF50A and i cant find anything.
Hello, great video. Very useful. Could you please tell me how much oil should be in the tailpiece? After a 50 hours of use, ours doesn't even get a liter left. Where does this go then? Everything is dry and clean.
Try Lucas ethanol fuel conditioner with stabilizers. I've used it for years. I've never had an issue as long as I added it to my fuel. 1oz per 5 gallons.
There is a large socket that attaches to a 1/2in ratchet wrench to easily remove the filter.CHEERS from HERE! P.S. Ethanol free gas no longer available here on Van.Isle as of Oct 1st.except at lawn mower shop for $30.00 a gal.
I was wondering if you can help me. I just bought a 2006 pontoon boat that was always in freshwater but I will be using it for bay fishing in saltwater. It has the same year Honda 4 stroke on it. I do not see any flushing port on the outside of the motor. This boat will be docked after trips and there will be no way for me to reach the motor to put on muffs. Do you have anwser or solution? Thank you.
There’s a screw right behind the lower unit fill plug on the port side. It’s a factory flush out. You will need an adapter to hook your garden hose to it.
Much appreciated 🙏, I have a 40hp and I am due for a good maintenance. Question: Is there a certain number of hours that should be maintained if the boat is used often??
What kind of spark plugs? What kind of gear oil? What kind of engine oil? What kind of oil filter? What kind of fuel filter do you replace in the water separator? And where do you source all of these items?
If you were going to privately buy a used 2007 50 HP 4-stroke honda motor, what would you recommend having inspected or serviced prior purchasing? Planning to take it to local mechanic. Thanks!
Hi. Thank you for excellent tutorial as I am learning about maintenance for the first time. What about the tilt? Got my boat out on the water for first time without problems. Then, next time I went to take it out, the tilt didn’t work. I used metal brush to clean battery connections and checked on fluid and all seemed fine. Just trying to trouble shoot. The boat is an ‘84 Boston Whaler and not sure how old the Honda motor is, but I imagine its at least 10 years old. Any suggestions on tilt maintenance? Thanks.
Hello, my name is Luiz Sander, I'm from Santa Catarina, Brazil. I recently bought a 2006 Honda BF50 engine, the entire inspection was carried out outside my boat, it worked perfectly, I did the installation now on my boat where it will be used, after everything was ready I went to start it and it didn't give any signal, nothing, as if it was something electrical or something, but it has power because the trim works, the engine goes up and down, but it doesn't start. Can you help me? Could you give any advice? thanks!
Hi, first thanks for your videos, please could you let me know which propeller you are using on your Bf50. Has it worked? Did it make a difference? Thanks for your time.
Hi!. Could you tell me the info of your propeller?, my motor came with an aluminum one, and I want to replace it with an Inox, with a better pitch like yours...
I have 40hp honda I had a problem with it every time I change the oil and problem is when I change the oil and the water goes in the oil what seems the problem with it it...thank

Glad it helped, and thanks for watching
7:32 Your washing is done 😅 I thought it was mine for a second
lol I got up to check mine as well …
Great tutorial, you shoud do a impeller change on the bf50 aswell. Your great to explain
I will when it needs to be done, but that could be in 10 years!
This is the BEST video!!!
Thanks so much!
Great video! Do one on changing the impeller
When the time comes, I will, but that may be 5+ years from now.
Got a question, when winterizing what about the water pump so the water does not freeze. Great video, really detailed well.
I just tilt the motor up and down a few times to get water out. I've never had an issue.
The place when I get my motor serviced they run 5 gallons of anti freeze through the system, it’s on my bill. $155.00 for oil and filter change. To me it sounds like a rip off.

Hello, great video. Very useful. Could you please tell me how much oil should be in the tailpiece? After a 50 hours of use, ours doesn't even get a liter left. Where does this go then? Everything is dry and clean.
The gear oil?
Yes the gear oil. Not the engine oil. @@shuswapoutdoors
You've got a leak somewhere if your gear oil is running dry. You'll need to take it into a shop
I think total amount of gear oil is little bit over 0,4 litres.

Can you also maybe make a video how to replace the impeller?
One day.... thanks for watching

Why waste money on a filter socket when channel locks work just fine. That's sad if you can't get ethanol free fuel anymore. Ethanol is garbage

My motor has a flushing connection on the starboard side of the motor...

Hi, which steel propeller do you use, what pitch, number, and who is the manufacturer? What kind of boat do you have?
It's a Honda prop 11 1/8 x 14P . I have a lund ssv16
When replacing impeller what is the splined tube forward of the linkage rod and nut.
No clue
Much appreciated 🙏,
I have a 40hp and I am due for a good maintenance.
Question: Is there a certain number of hours that should be maintained if the boat is used often??
There is a maintenance schedule in your manual. Most things are due for a change every 100 hours, but some are more.
Hi what do you prefer honda or yamaha for cost and preference
Thanks ❤
Around here, Honda has a better reputation. The only one I'd stay away from is mercury
What kind of spark plugs?
What kind of gear oil?
What kind of engine oil?
What kind of oil filter?
What kind of fuel filter do you replace in the water separator?
And where do you source all of these items?
It's all listed in the video....
No spark plug or oil filter or water filter separator numbers
Yes it is, it's at the beginning of the video
@@shuswapoutdoors got everything but spark plug

The cylinder compression, and the lower end.

Have you checked the fuses? Or the ground wire from the hydraulic motor on the tilt? I'd start there...

Check the fuses. The one for the starter might be blown
@@shuswapoutdoors obrigado!!
You should also check the kill switch to make sure it's lifted up all the way when the key is installed
do you know any other way ho to change oil and how t make vending in trim ?
What?
Hi, first thanks for your videos, please could you let me know which propeller you are using on your Bf50. Has it worked? Did it make a difference? Thanks for your time.
It's a Honda 14p stainless. It is a big improvement over the aluminum one. Depending on the weight of your boat ,you could go up to a 15p
Thanks for your input. I have a 16ft Ali boat. I'll drop you a link to some film of her.
ruclips.net/video/yxXtiDZ7lvE/видео.htmlsi=dhyJlXwRV0RQOy8u
I'd go with a 15 pitch
Did you change the diameter of the propeller or keep it the same? I'm at maximum revs with the standard propeller that came with the engine.
Was your water separator factory installed or aftermarket
Factory
Hi!. Could you tell me the info of your propeller?, my motor came with an aluminum one, and I want to replace it with an Inox, with a better pitch like yours...
It's an 11 1/4 14pitch. Perfect for my boat weight. Fully loaded with gear and 5 people it will do 35mph
