    A good pair of "diagonal " pliers are ideal for removing cotter pins...The water pump on them is easy to replace. Just a rubber impeller blade on the tailstock shaft. Good idea to replace it while you're at.

    Awesome boat and everything will work out fine is my guess. No better time than time spent with pops. I used to fish the mighty Niagara river with my dad. Just beautiful memories that I will always cherish. Good job Kyle , keep up the hard work brother . Blessings to you and yours !!

    Looks like the lower unit may have had a significant impact at some point which may have been where the prop damage came from. The weld on the skeg looks like there has been some work done and it looks like a possible crack at the 7 o'clock position in the housing behind the prop. Hopefully not a bent shaft or something else going on. Good luck with it! They say that a fitting acronym for boat is "Bust Out Another Thousand" which, as a boat owner, I can attest to!

      When kyle turned the prop shaft looked like it was bent

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  Год назад +1

      That damage was done on day one of the motor, dropped on concrete during install! It has been used lots since then, so I would assume no internal problems! Thanks, and good eye! Anything boat related is VERY pricey. I've been on ebay scouting around for parts for the engine, just seeing whats out there incase I needed it, and the prices are shockingly expensive!

    Good day olboy I hope that fixed the problem that would be perfect. I hate using muffs I prefer a barrel especially on Hondas the guy that put my impeller in my motor told me Hondas are known for not having good luck with muffs just a little tip for you. But that is going to be a great boat it's a good size you guys should have years of fun and family bonding fishing. I am one proud father Gage started playing goalie last year after Christmas and this year is his first year playing Atom or U11 he tryout as Goalie and made the provincial team they had 3 games last weekend and 3 this weekend coming up to evaluate the team if they are going to play A or AA there is 2 goalies on the team he played 1 game last weekend AA and they won 6-4 against Miramichi.

      Interesting note about the Hondas and muffs! Barrel is definitely ideal if you have the setup. Thanks for the input!

    Any tips on how to stiffen up the steering? I have a tiller steer Honda 50 HP and the steering is too loose on it.

  • @ChadMorgan709
    @ChadMorgan709 Год назад +2

    Well that's about about the easiest fix possible on an outboard. Hopefully there's no issues with the different pitch, but worst case scenario you have to buy a new prop, which is much cheaper than a motor job or a new motor.

  • @haqvor
    @haqvor Год назад

    If you haven't already done that check the impeller at the water intake as well. It is probably ok as you got water all the way through but otoh the water pressure from the hose might be enough for it to get all the way around. It is an easy fix if it's broken but a very frustrating fault after all the hassle of getting it in the water.

    Would a prop shop be able to fix the SS prop that came with the motor?

  • @Invinciblemoam
    @Invinciblemoam Год назад +1

    Thank God for sacrificial parts! I must point out that when the new prop was fitted there looked to be a fair bit of run out. It may be worth making sure the shaft isn’t bent otherwise that’s going to vibrate like crazy

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  Год назад

      Shaft is perfect but we don't have the right spacer setup for the prop we added!

    • @mediumbob4735
      @mediumbob4735 Год назад

      That shaft isn’t perfect, it’s bent as a mofo. You can see it in your video plain as day. An 11 p prop is not a steep prop. It’s just steeper than the other. Also use pliers(I use dykes) and leverage against the prop nut to remove the cotter key and you can remove it painless in a few seconds. Replace with new. Just watched a few mins of the video. Pretty cringe on some of the things your saying. Hope whatever was wrong w it was an easy fix.

    Had the opposite happen to me purchased a 9.8 long shaft for $1000
    Then after 3 months it didn't want to start after 15 or 20 tries it seemed to have seized this thing is like brand new its pristine inside was told it was probably sezied and shot because it stayed on the vessel and humidity got in
    The mechanic I hired to come tell me how much never even showed up and seemed genuinely interested as sv serenity is an older ⛵️ so I grabbed my tool box an started in on it once I got the lid off and removed the spark plug to look inside didn't see anything started on the recoil spring assembly to removed it now the flywheel
    put a socket on it was solid didn't move tap a few times it broke free I thought the nut is loose but it wasn't what ever locked it up just unlocked as I was turning it
    as far as I can tell it was some how the starter gear jammed with the flywheel gear put it all back together an she runs like a champ now that motor a tophatsu 9.8 hp pushes a 22 ft hunter amazing well maybe alittle too good 👍 good luck with yours

    another great video! I worked at outboard dealerships as a tech and then service manager for over 30 years, Mercury, Johnson, Suzuki , Yamaha and Honda. you are missing the thrust washer that goes on before the prop. the washer that is on there needs to go on after the prop. you also should be running a lower pitch prop. my guess would be 12x9 . these motors should tach 5000- 5500 at w.o.t. any less can cause pre ignition, which is not good. i love a tiller set up!

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  Год назад +1

      PLEASE stay with me throughout this series. haha Someone with your experience is exactly what I need access to. I noticed the prop was a little 'sloppy' in and out, so I got some washers and spaced it to minimal tolerance, added the nut and then re-pinned. Almost no play now, but I'd like to have the proper setup on there if I'm missing something.
      Definitely agree on the lower pitch. As stated in the video, that prop was just a prop the guy had kicking around, so I'll use it as a test prop, but work on getting a new one. Online calculators tell me somewhere in the 11's diameter, and anywhere around 11 or 12 on pitch, based on the boat weight. Come back for a soon coming video with test footage. I'd like your opinion on how the engine is running!
