Great video man, i have the same motor and it had rough idle and sometimes rough at wot but i did what you said and after was completely fixed, thanks!
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@Matteo Omari Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I did the same thing earlier this year, before I saw this video, on a 2001 50 HP Yamaha outboard on the trailer with muffs. I also sprayed the carbs while it was running. Then, I let the Seafoam sit in the carbs for a week before running the second half gallon through in the same manner. Engine now starts easily for the first time since I've had it, and it runs beautifully.
Great video. My 1990 Yamaha 200 ran great at the start of the season. Wouldn't go above 2800 rpm for the past few weeks. Followed your advice...spit and sputtered for about 10 min after the "procedure"... then shot out like a dart...4500 rpms...thanks.
Awesome video! This was the fix to clean out the carbon buildup in the carb of my Mercury 115 2 stroke without actually taking off the carb, and cleaning it out. The motor now idles as it should and runs amazing!
always a good idea to do your plugs after a treatment in my experience. The smoke is no joke. Looks like something major is on fire. I can't believe the FD has never responded to any of my Seafoam sessions.
Brilliant Idea. My boat takes 180 gallons to fill (90 per tank). You just saved me a fortune and I'm not even convinced this stuff works. I plan to search for technical/test data to evaluate, but I'm not waiting, your video shows me to "go for it". Your video is priceless!!!! Thank you and Happy and safe boating Captain.
Wow! That’s a lot of gas compared to my 18 gallon tank. Glad I could help... I may not know as much as the next guy about motors, I just know this treatment works! Good luck!
SeaFoam definitely works. I never believed in "overhaul in a can", but we used it on a Cat G398 with over 80,000 hours on it. That's about 3.6 million miles equivalent. Freed up the rings and stopped fouling plugs. We delayed a $100,000 overhaul for a couple years. Yes SeaFoam works...
Always used seaform as and additive. Never seen someone used it at such a full strength. I know now it won't hurt it and it close to the time to change the plugs so I will give it a try.
Just at the chicago boat show talk to a master tec no seafood leaves A residue .Used seafoam all the time but my 150 merc still ran ruff.He said quick clean run gas down double the mixture in 5 gal run it hard should notice a difference. Also use marine stable for storage
One thing “power tuning” (what this process is known as) does, especially on two strokes, is decarbons deposits between ring lands, and frees stuck piston rings. I’ve taken some customers two strokes that were known to be mixed rich, and had varying compression numbers between cylinders, and completely remedy them after intently performing a “power tune” to their outboards. Some of the older service manuals actually state you should do this every couple seasons, sometimes every season, to ensure proper piston ring performance.
I order online it by the 12 case (or gallon, whichever is cheaper). Use it for all my engines from car to yard (lawn mower, chainsaws, weed wackers, etc) to boat. Since I've been doing this I haven't had any problems.
In conclusion after reading 75 replies: anyone who asks a question in here will 100% not get a reply so dont bother asking questions here. However you will get a thumbs up. Yay! 2nd it seems the jury is out on Sea Foam, the guys who use it either have mixed results or terrible results the guys who use it and say it's great are few. The replys I read against using sea foam seem much more valid with good explanations. Verdict is hung jury. My advice: just do regular maintenance, use proper fuel oil ratios 100% of time, dont use last years gasoline, store motor in building above freezing during winter, run all your fuel out of motor when in the water before trailering by disconnecting fuel supply line until engine dies, dont be afraid to use full throttle for more than 15 minutes during every outing, and let motor run for several minutes before taking off and lastly dont use premium octane in motors built for 87 and 89 octane. Avoid ethanol. And when rebuilding carb kit only use factory and never aftermarket plus never forget to change out the float when doing carb kit cleaning/ rebuild. Tip: put a marker board in your garage and log all your small combustible engine specs and always winterize your engines. I guarantee if you follow these basic guidelines you'll be able to run your same outboard until your grandson is ready for a timeless hand me down. As of right now the only thumbs up is my own. 🤣
👍 similar to your body. Don’t ever eat fast food or anything in a box or bag, exercise, take vitamins, get 8 hours of sleep and you will live to see 100. Unfortunately, like our bodies people don’t take perfect care of their boats. This isn’t a miracle drug but does help depending on if there isn’t other underlying issues. Thanks for your comment and input. Good luck on the water
90 octane Ethanol Free Gasoline is the only fuel anyone should ever run in an outboard. Any other fuel shows just how big of an idiot you are... Period 🙄
Speaking from decades of personally using SeaFoam... not forming an opinion from compiling YT comments... it has only had a positive impact on the performance every motor I have used it in. The marinas and lodges on the big lake we're on Northern MN use it in everything from a 30 yr old 4hp 2-stroke to brand new 250hp 4-strokes. They are not going to do anything that compromises their equipment. I don't have any connection to SeaFoam, but I'd say the people I see using it make a convincing body of evidence.
You should be running your boat out on the water at different loads and speeds for better effects. Many older multi carb engines don't have idle circuits on some carbs, they may idle on just 2 cylinders, reved up they all kick in. Techron and Berrymans are also great.
A typical carb clean will do fine...carbs don't collect carbon..thats on the exhaust side of combustion...all its doing is cleaning the air and valve ports in the carb body...same as can be done with simple carb clean.. Ethonal doesn't hurt a 2 stroke it's the absorption if moisture it accumulates when not in a sealed system...and also the fuel lines needs changing on most old models because of cheap lining separation and then crumbling up and clogging up the carb...also it'll gell up in the bowl if left to long ... I tell all my people not to buy more than you'll need for a trip out if your not going regularly because of the gas going bad so fast these days...on the positive side of ethanol added is you don't have that pre ignition cladder climbing hills in our auto's... Some ask what is ethanol ? It's corn licker...pure dragster fuel...lol...
Everybody: don't be afraid to rebuild your carburetors. Use the factory kit, not the aftermarket kit. If the motor is really old, replace the carburetor floats also - they absorb fuel over time.
Not a bad solution instead of doing all that if your not sure. Spend $7 on a can see if that solves it. Not everyone is inclined to do all that. It's more work than you think
It is. I've done my 89 merc xr4 150 twice. I have always gotten it back together and running but I still have to take it to the shop for adjustments. I can't ever seem to get it idled correctly. Pictures, videos, meticulous. Still have to take it in. They have it right in five min but won't show me how haha.
@noway57 the older floats in the carb become brittle in some motors and end up clogging/ flossing the carb at the same time. Carb rebuilds are VERY basic and very WORTH IT as well. This video is also a great way to clean out carbon. Easier but not the only easy fix
Add startron to all your gas and you won’t have to deal with this. I have a Honda quad at cabin that I only use during deer season. Starts up and runs smooth for the last 12 years. I treat all my storage gas cans and seasonal equipment with it. Chainsaws, generator, snowblower………
The idea is great I do it to my rig as well only I hook the water muffs up so that I dont pollute the water any more than it already gets. Just a little something to think about.
I bought a 2020 Tracker Classic XL a year and a half ago and have run 1 oz per gallon of regular gas ( live in CA so ethanol gas is available). This have kept my Mercury 4 Stroke 50 HP running tops with zero issues. I do change oils regularly.
Seafoam is a great product, I reccomend it with every tank diluted vs the treatment process. Especially when you burn ethanol gas. I've never been a fan of shock treatments for an internal combustion engine and the fuel delivery system. It may even the idle out but its not healthy for the engine long term. I've seen too many engines require major overhauls long before they should who wait and use this product vs maintaining the cleanest system possible.
Hi John thanks for the comment. Do I use a full can in my boat tank? Sorry I am totally clueless and slowly learning. Since mechanics lovee taking advantage of clueless women on boat knowledge 🙄. I purchased a tender with a yamaha 4 stroke 50hp. But it's been failing. I'm assuming the carburetor is dirty. Thank you!
@@msantanadiaz1 hey Marcia, I believe 1 bottle is good for 20 gallons so however many gallons your tank is divided by that. Your tank should have a little serial plate on it indicating the # of gallons it can hold. usually located where the hoses attach to the tank
I ran a whole can through my Merc 50hp 2 stroke, in 6 gallons of gas. It trolls to barely running now. I believe it cleaned something. It's a 1985 model.
Bro your channel names prestige worldwide and your real name is Brandon??? Oh I love it.. I was just scrolling and I say the channel name and was cracking up
Yes this works. However the gunk that comes out the exhaust looks like Hersey's syrup only black. It will put a lot of oily junk in the water. I recommend doing this with water muffs on dry land
We did it with muffs in driveway, was working great but on the throttle up in the successive higher rev intervals, after shutdown for the rest period, it would not start. The flywheel is seized. Any thoughts?
@@89sn2001 , did you use the recommended 2 stroke oil mix? Hopefully you didn't burn your motor up. Maybe remove the spark plugs and spray a little marvel mystery oil in each cylinder spark hole.
Okay then, thanks for sharing. Mercury makes a foam cleaning product (can't remember the name) that you spray into the intake that works real well for cleaning.
This outboard is fuel injected and from my understandings there are little filters (mesh strainers) on fuel rail side of each fuel injector and would probably be beneficial to replace them evey so often
Theres a product called Ring free..its made for 2stroke outboards and is more potent than Seafoam oz for oz....couple times a season I run properly mixed tank...keeps the carbon build up from happening 💯
Here's a tip. The longer you let it sit between treatments the better. Letting it soak, is what really loosens up the carbon in the cylinders. I let mine set overnight between treatments and it ran better than new. Afterwards I pulled the spark plugs and you can see how shiny the tops of the Pistons were. They were they were black with carbon before the treatment
i put some water up gas in my truck made it run like well not good .i put seafoam in and ran it for a good while. next day it made all the water in the tank go away. total fix.
Mine did not like it couldn’t get it leave the dock ran great before beside sitting for 3 years so I decided to poor some of this stuff in I got a bunch of smoke and rough idle wouldn’t stay running after taking it off of fast idle ended up taking it out and pulling some of the fuel out and adding new fuel
Seafoam is designed to break down debris in your system/lines. If you have ethanol in your lines this will speed up the process of cleaning those lines which can add debris to your gas. Sucks initially but good in the long run once it is all out. That’s why I recommend replacing lines, fuel filter and spark plugs after shock treatment.
Just put Marvel mystery oil in the gas its cheaper and u get more trust me it's just as good if not better than sea foam been using it for idk how long never had and fuel related problems with my 2 stroke merc or any other 2 stroke motor ive used it in
So after the treatment and you hooked up the regular gas tank again how did it run? Are you happy with the results? Thinking about doing it on my 1981 evinrude 25hp
Thanks so much for the video tips and quick response! Your the only one that responded. Hope you and your have a wonderful holiday season and happy Thanksgiving
@@PrestigeWorldwideFishing k thanks for reply. Just bought my first boat so all this is new. So to clarify, i got a evinrude 2 stroke 9.5 So i can use this seafoam With gas oil mix at the same time and just leave it in there after cleaning. and leave it in there forever how long, til it run out of gas? So i guess its preference if u wanna keep using seafoam at each fill up or every other fills up. But oil mix is a must at every fill correct?
Not sure how your 2 stroke works but mine injects the oil into the gas and others you have to mix the oil into your boat gas each time you fill up. Might have to do some searching on how yours works. You don’t need to pour seafoam in your gas every time you fill up but a few times a year is a good idea. Also, Make sure you use 100% pure gas, no ethanol. Ethanol will tear up your motor over time. Email me at prestigeworldwidefishing@gmail.com if you still aren’t sure and we will figure out how it works.
If you have to add oil to your fuel, then you have to add a small amount of oil to account for the sea foam to maintain the correct fuel oil mixture ratio
@@arimaoutdoors8255 Yes, I believe it is something like 3 ounces, but that sounds off to me

Got a 5 gal tank after every 3rd tank I throw in 6 Oz. Of Methol Hydrate and 6 Oz. Of Lacquer thinner do that to all my stuff ...dirt bikes...sleds...atv's...chainsaws..blowers...etc never had any fuel related issues
I use FTC decarbonizer mixed in with the fuel. Doesn't smoke and restores power after 1 tank of fuel. I run it through all my 4 stroke, 2 stroke and diesel motors. Save a fortune on maintanace. Don't forget an oil change every 12 months.
Would sea foam help a motor that starts and runs good when cold or hot but stalls when Luke warm. I’m fighting a 03 Johnson 150 that won’t take throttle when just warm have to feather the hot foot and baby it to get it to take fuel and run but when it heats back up runs perfect.
It’s possible it could clear something in the fuel system or lines but sounds like it could be more than that. I would give this a try and see. It will only help and fairly inexpensive
@@robertaustin1945 after 1,400 dollars at the shop it was actually the float bowls were warped and it was sucking air and losing fuel when the engine was heat saturated. They were plastic bowls.
so I have 1985 mercury 150hp black max and looks like one cylinder isn't giving out compression. I have changed my spark plug and I'm getting spark on all 6. Can using using this seafood fix the problem? My issue that I have is when I give it throttle and it gets up to speed for about 7-10 seconds it Boggs down and then shuts off? any ideas on what causes that?
I'm curious for an answer too. My 1978 200hp Black Max does the same thing you describe. Plugs are all new, but I need to check compression, change fuel filter and pump and try this sea foam thing. Check my shorts, I am just in the beginning stages of getting this thing up and running after sitting for 10 years.
Likely a stuck ring.. I'd soak that affected cylinder with SF, overnight.. Then use SF in your fuel as normal.. give it a gentle run . Then try your compression again.. multiple attempts may ve needed.. but it's cheaper than a shop rate.. good luck
@@machew2009 so if you don't have a fuel injected engine (mines a 2 stoke), would you recommend doing the treatment as you drive around the lake at WOT?
Thanks. Yeah I know it doesn’t. I was trying to speak in more general terms about all motors but didn’t come out how intended… I’m an idiot 😔 regardless this trick really does work
Berryman’s B-12 Chemtool, IMO actually works better than Sea Foam. Both are good products, but I generally use the Berryman’s over the Sea Foam. It’s whatever is cheaper and readily available at the time is where my loyalties are.
I’ll be honest with you I used Seafoam religiously inmy twin inboard Ford 302 engines with4 barrel Hollie Carburetors on them and with today’s Ethanol it never seemed to make a big difference I just pulled both carbs off every winter and had them completely rebuilt by a local Hollie expert that did most of the areas HotRodders and Dragracing guys Carburetors every season he told me the accelerator pumps were shot ? But after he did his “Magic “ I just bolted onmy Carbs and the boat ran great for the season
Can you provide more information on how you connected the other tank... most primer bulbs I’ve seen have crimp connectors, so where do you disconnect it?
I disconnected the fuel line coming from the motor at the existing bulb (cut clamp off with crimpers). Then I removed existing bulb and line going to tank. Next, I took the new bulb and line I purchased from amazon (link in description) and removed the clamp and line from one side of the bulb. Now, you have the existing line coming from the motor connecting to the new bulb and line going into 1 gallon tank. I didn't re-clamp anything for the shock treatment, but after done you can reattach existing bulb and line or leave new line on there. I purchased crimp style clamps from amazon to re-clamp everything. Here is a kit amzn.to/2F6fbpS if you don’t already have the crimper tool. Zip-ties also get the job done, but don't last as long.
@@PrestigeWorldwideFishing Can I use the boat line and boat tank and use the 1 gallon of the boat tank? Also I've read in one comment that your outboard is fuel injected. Would this work if is carburator?
@@c.m.2350 Yeah you can use your boat tank, It might be a little harder to gauge though. I didn't because I wanted the cleanest gas possible running through the system - I was afraid my tank might have too many impurities floating in the bottom. Yes, absolutely it works on carburetors. I realized after I posted the video that I said mine was carbureted when it isn't. My point is you can do it on any motor, to clean lines, exhaust, injectors, etc. Good luck!
Looks very impressive. I have more then 17 years of experience in outboard engines. Carburetor can only be cleaned by hand stripping them open and scraping the gum gunk of and out of the bowl and cleaing jets and small holes with touch fill! Maby EFI SYSTEM. ELECTRONICS FUEL INJECTORS RUN IN FUEL ADDITIVE. BUT IF NOT CLEAN IS ULTRA SONIC BATH AND CLEANING CEMICAL. THE INJECTORS IN SPRAY TEST MACHINE TO MEASURE CC SAME TIME SPRAY TEST CYCLE. THERE IS NO EASY FAST CHEAP WAY IN THIS REAL WORD WE LIVE IN.
Thanks Andre! I agree this isn’t a fix all and i admittedly made mistakes in this video, but i do believe this does really help your outboard. Thanks for you explanation, I really do appreciate it
Jes there is Fuel problems we all get in outboards because of poor quality fuels with water and ethanol in fuels and lower octane. We dont get Seafoam in South Africa. Im going to try to order on Amazon and do some tests. There is a RUclips video that tested Seafoam on 4 stroke engines and it really cleans the combustion chamber and intake runner. Valve seats.
It really does clean well, but also loosens things that can get caught in fuel lines and filters. I make sure to replace those after I do a shock treatment. Overall I’ve been impressed with seafoam
I don’t know for certain but I’m not sure why it couldn’t. Seafoam is pretroleum based and safe for all motors. It is designed to break down carbon buildup in motor and exhaust.
Not sure. Mine has a button that takes it out of gear and allows me to rev motor. I suppose you could drive slowly around the lake. Not sure that would be the safest thing to do though.
Is this going to delute the 2 cycle oil? I got a Mercury 500 series 50hp thunderbolt motor want to clean it but afraid it's going to thin my 2 stroke oil too much. Suggestions?
My 1987 Suzuki DT65 2 stroke is hard starting (cold) and running slower, but after warming up it starts easy. I'm planning on doing this; any other advice would be appreciated. Thank
Make sure you are using pure gasoline every time you fuel up. Run premium non-ethanol gas to help reduce carbon buildup. The seafoam in the gas tank should help clean any impurity’s out as well. That should help, good luck!
It's not carbon in the carbs, as carbon comes from burning gas. Carbs can get clogged if you use ethanol gas in your outboard, and seafoam will remove all that crap as well.
Yes.. stuck rings from low grade fuel or oil will accumulate carbon on the rings making them stick.. hence low or no compression..SF used directly in the affected cylinders will loosen and break up the carbon deposits.. good luck.
I'm running a 2-Stroke 1990 Mercury 25hp. It runs great on land, bogs down in the water. Do you think this will help? Also if I do choose to do this, do you use a mixture of oil and gas 50:1 like usual? then add a can or no? I feel like it would be different on a 2-Stroke. Thanks ahead for the reply.
I’m not sure. It won’t hurt anything and it is much cheaper than a mechanic if it works. If not then you know it is something else and you can take it in. Yes use the same mixture of oil and gas you typically would. My 2-stroke mixes it for me so I didn’t have to add any
Can you just disconmect the hose from your regular tank and stuff it down in the seafoam mixture and prime it? Or does it need to have a filter or something on the end?
You can for sure. I didn’t want to mess with disconnecting it at the tank or motor end. That’s why I bought separate line to disconnect at the bulb and still have enough hose to work with. Do whatever works best for you
Possibly, give it a try, it will only help. I’ve also had issues with the rev stater, which can also cause bogging issues. Not sure about yours though since it is carbureted and a Johnson motor

@@PrestigeWorldwideFishing only thing i heard from another video that kinda make sense is if you run it in ur dirty gas tank wont that break and clean everything up and send it into the motor. whats ur thought on that part I'm thinking theirs a fuel water separator an a fuel filter in the motor which should catch most the crap I would say an maybe to change the filters after you run seafoam in dirty tanks and lines .
Seafoam in that gas tank may help break down that debris, down side of that is like you said it will send it through your motor. I always run the motor a couple times after seafoam treatments before I change my filters. Just to give it time to hopefully pass through. That’s the good and bad side of seafoam. It breaks up junk stuck in your motor and cleans it up but that stuff has to go somewhere and does get caught up in your fuel filters.
I use a ounce of sea foam to every gallon of ethanol free gas I always run my outboard out of gas every time I use it, if it’s not used for more than one day ... Same for my chain saws, blowers and two stroke motors p
That's not good that will score your cylinders over time and your carb gaskets will get hard and leak also 2 strokes aren't made to run out of fuel just saying
If your motor has more than 2 carbs, that's bad. One carb will run out of fuel before the other, which means one cylinder is running without lubrication, while the other is under power. It works for a while, but you're slowly damaging your dry cylinders.
@@michaelboykin9881 I’ve heard so many contrary opinions on this .... I’ve had the same weed whacker for 31 years. Original plug, never adjusted air on carb.. I’ll never do this any different... This does no damage to carbs, cylinder walls or otherwise .... Ps Michael...how many outboards do you own?
@@markocynamon5921 weed wackers have 1 cylinder. All my outboards have had 3,4 or 6. When an engine with multiple carbs runs dry on the first carb, the cylinders serviced by that carb are running without lubrication. Didn't realize my advice derived from experience would so offend your delicate feelings. I was just trying to save you an engine rebuild. As for your question, uve owned 5 outboards over the years. Folks in Florida tend to fish and boat quite often. Have a great day.
Does this work for your exhaust? My exhaust is built up with carbon and won't go full rpm because of it and I was wondering if this would fix that so I don't have to take the foot off? Thank you
no, SeaFoam does not survive combustion. CataClean is a product that will help clean exhaust. it is designed to clean catalytic converters, but clean the entire exhaust system
You Can use SeaFoam as a decarbonizer.. pull the plugs.. and pour directly into plug holes then allow the Seafoam to drain through the exhaust ports.. let sit for a while.. plugs in, start er up and watch the smoke.. should do the trick.. good luck.

Period 🙄
Why not just add it to a gallon of gas in your tank?
You can, just might be hard to estimate how much gas is in your tank… at least it would be in my boat.
I used it in a few things and it is amazing stuff.
You should be running your boat out on the water at different loads and speeds for better effects. Many older multi carb engines don't have idle circuits on some carbs, they may idle on just 2 cylinders, reved up they all kick in. Techron and Berrymans are also great.
Seafoam is the best fuel additive…I use it in everything I own. Saves a lot of heartache
Of course it works, ya don’t think Al Linder would lie do ya. Seafoam for the win 🏅👍
I just pour it in the fuel take occasionally and it makes a huge difference
Do not forget to add 2 stroke oil to the gallon mix if you have a two stroke motor!
Not if it's oil injection.

Love Seafoam....great stuff!!! I always use it and Mercury 50 HP 4 stroke runs great but it is a 2020....
Can i use seafoam on 2 stroke motor?
@Emoreno77 yes
Seafoam is a great product, I reccomend it with every tank diluted vs the treatment process. Especially when you burn ethanol gas. I've never been a fan of shock treatments for an internal combustion engine and the fuel delivery system. It may even the idle out but its not healthy for the engine long term. I've seen too many engines require major overhauls long before they should who wait and use this product vs maintaining the cleanest system possible.
so how do you 'catch up' if yo have an older engine and want to start treating it? IMHO you do need to start with a few heavier duty treatments.
Thank you!

Theres a product called Ring free..its made for 2stroke outboards and is more potent than Seafoam oz for oz....couple times a season I run properly mixed tank...keeps the carbon build up from happening 💯
I will have to look into that one. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks! I will give that a try

Thank you so much 👍🏻👍🏻

So u use a full can of seafoam WITH premix oil yes together correct?
Yes. I didn’t have to add oil because my engine has oil tank that automatically pumps it into the fuel.
@@PrestigeWorldwideFishing k thanks for reply. Just bought my first boat so all this is new. So to clarify, i got a evinrude 2 stroke 9.5
So i can use this seafoam With gas oil mix at the same time and just leave it in there after cleaning. and leave it in there forever how long, til it run out of gas?

Would sea foam help a motor that starts and runs good when cold or hot but stalls when Luke warm. I’m fighting a 03 Johnson 150 that won’t take throttle when just warm have to feather the hot foot and baby it to get it to take fuel and run but when it heats back up runs perfect.

You Can use SeaFoam as a decarbonizer.. pull the plugs.. and pour directly into plug holes then allow the Seafoam to drain through the exhaust ports.. let sit for a while.. plugs in, start er up and watch the smoke.. should do the trick.. good luck.
Can you drive around for 15 minutes or should you just idle?
You could do either. I would recommend idling. I feel like I would spill something if I was driving around.
Is that pro size or smaller can?
It is regular can, not the pro marine
Do you where the buy?
Amazon or any auto parts store should carry it
Wal-Mart and Menards have it cheaper than autoparts places. Like $3 cheaper.
Great tips thank you!
Thanks man
