To be fair, you could say that about any studio, successful studios get bigger and employ more people or smaller and employ less, plus people have lives outside of work, move, get married, lose passion or find others, it kinda goes without saying
So hyped for TOW2, just replaying the first one now! My biggest issues were the lack of 3rd person, and the worlds were sometimes too small. Hoping this fixes that and makes it more expansive! TOW was short but sweet, but maybe the second one can be a bit longer.
I feel the same. I missed it at launch but got it on sale last year in anticipation for Starfield and OMG I fell in love with it ❤ Can’t wait for the sequel
@@francois.hebert I like third person for a few reasons. One, wider field of visibility, it's harder to be sneaked up on like that. Two, if I make a character that looks good, I'd like to see that character do cool looking animations. Last point I have, if they don't want to include a third person, why even let us customize a character? Just give the people a canned protag.
@@triplepyrite Thank you for your answer. About your last point, you can still see your character in the inventory screen usually, and first person view can let you see your character in some ways. I understand this is not the same as TPV though. Thanks again for the insight.
Tried multiple times to play the Outer Worlds One but just found it really boring. Never found the world captivating, don’t feel as if it has any compelling atmosphere. Hopefully the Outer Worlds Two can appeal to me more
Definitely agree with you. I was surprised by the amount of positivity this game garnered. Felt like a step backwards in terms of world building/gameplay
@@thelechiteknight7185hate to admit it, but I have more hours in Starfield than outer worlds and that’s a low bar. Outer worlds was just sooo aggravatingly boring in the beginning.
@@thelechiteknight7185 Got 90h in Starfield before I got bored, had to force myself to manage to reach 6h playtime in TOW. Even objectively speaking, Starfield is superior to TOW in almost every way.
its kind of a safe bet that if they stick with the same game engine an ES6 made by the same team with the same leads that made Starfield is going to be extremely formulaic and behind the times at best. which might be enough for a lot of ppl to just have a new world to get lost in, but a lot of ppl who want more from Bethesda, from modern games or from RPGs in general are gonna consider it pretty mid
@@mediumvillain most of the leads on Starfield are the same that did Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim. You know, 4 of the greatest games ever made and that made us Bethesda fans in first place. It's already confirmed that will run on Creation Engine 2 anyway. Like a million times, including Matty interview with Todd Howard. The latest games alienated their audience because tried to do other things (multiplayer for 76 and proc gen with Starfield) instead of improving and modernizing what they already did.
@@erminioottone1344 "improving and modernising" if that is what we call the gutting and dumbing down of mechanics and systems they've done since Morrowind can they please do the reverse? Even Skyrim is a open world adventure game that pretends to be a RPG, Enderal, a fanmade game using Skyrim's assets is more of an RPG than Skyrim itself is. Starfield isn't different, it is the natural progression from Skyrim and Fallout 4 but without the hand crafted world to distract us and keep us invested. At best TES6 might have a good world again, but we're never getting a real RPG from Beth again.
Yeah I’ll never forgive Bethesda if they screw up ES6, I’ve been waiting 13 years for a sequel to my favorite series. I just have a bad feeling due to paid mods, updates constantly breaking mod lists years after their games & DLCs have released.
I feel like a lot of people were expecting a spiritual successor for New Vegas when the first Outer Worlds came out. What we got was a reasonably short space romp with a neat aesthetic. As long as Outer Worlds 2 expends on that, I think it should do well.
Am I the only one that was underwhelmed by outerworlds? The exploration/open world seemed like a step backwards while the gameplay left a lot to be desired compared to previous obsidian IPs
You’re not. Quite a few folks such as myself feel the same way. The thing is that after TOW’s initial honeymoon phase with its release, a lot of people just sort of forgot it existed for a while until it’s first DLC came out. When people played it, a good chunk of them realized that the game wasn’t as extravagant as they made it out to be when it first came out. More people enjoyed Murder on Eridanos, but it still wasn’t making waves like the initial release. The game overall went out like a wet fart. I know ‘cause I bought and played the game and all it’s DLC, along with watching the coverage of the game through its cycle. The overall opinion of the game was “meh” for the longest time until recently. I think the game is decent and hope the sequel is a major improvement, but I find it interesting how it’s suddenly getting a lot of praise on RUclips recently when it for a good while it was seen as decent at best.
You are not. I liked the diversity in playstyle choices, but the characters never really connected with me and I found the gameplay very boring mid to late game as I was basically just killing everything within seconds. Hopefully they can take a big step forward with the second game.
Hey Matty! Just wanted to share with you even if you never see ^_^ I have been watching your videos FOREVER man, I am talking wayyy back in those Fallout 3 days, I still remember your take of Fallout 4 and your thoughts of it may having a banking system when we saw the USS Constitution crash in the trailer 😂 Just wanted to say thank you for providing content for this long man, I have long lost all the accounts I previously used as a kid and they are probably still subscribed to you.. I am much older now and have made my own channel to create my own community and hopefully offer similar memories to other people like how you did with me! I would never had the courage to do so without excellent, confident creators like you providing me creative videos as a kid! Happy to see how far your channel has come! Cheers to a healthy and prosperous 2025. ✨🎉🍻
I really can’t see what you’re seeing. The animations, models, textures, combat and environment variety looked way more evolved than 1. If you’re saying it just looks like more of the same, but modernized and with more time and money spent on it, I think that’s exactly their position and exactly what I would want from a sequel to a low budget game like 1 was.
I love The Outer Worlds, it’s hilarious and the world is a lot of fun. I’m now replaying it for funsies. Super excited to see more of this world. Also, I liked the Secret Level episode, even though it was really depressing at the end lol. In terms of characters, I just hope Phineas gets a mention. He was by far my favorite character in the first game.
Outer Worlds: A world I wanted to dive into and know more at every turn Star field: A world that I had no interest in and would prefer to take an excel tutorial Outer Worlds 2 is gonna be awesome
I liked Outer Worlds at the time, but i don't remember anything of the game and anything of it's memorable. Vanguard questline in Starfield and other quests like Entangled or the clones one are far better than all The Outer Worlds honestly. And i say as a big Obsidian fan
TOW is one of my favorite games of the last 15 years - played through it five times (including the 'secret' ending); twice through the expansions. For everything it may have lacked in "AAA features/scope", it more than made up for in heart, humor, world building, characters and peerless dialogue. Very much looking forward to this sequel...Avowed AND TOW2 in the same year?! Obsidian fans are feasting indeed 🤩
Surely RPG players of all people prefer longer games rather than shorter ones? Though you might personally prefer shorter games I like bigger ones that I can sink my teeth into and spend at least 200 hours in them. Cause if I get hooked into the game then I really get into it and will play it for ages, especially if it's an RPG.
When there are 1000 other interesting games out there to play, then no, I don't want to spend 200 hours on one single game anymore. I have no more time for that.
I'm not sure what I'm more excited about. An announcement of a new Fallout spinoff game by another studio, or Matty's reaction to an announcement of a new Fallout spinoff game! :) I'm still holding out hope for a Fallout game by Larian studios :)
Really hoping this game turns out well. Looking forward to it next year. I would love to see a Fallout done by Obsidian, especially if Josh Sawyer is somehow involved in it.
Been waiting six years!!! Most important game to me. Man, how much that game saved my wandering mind in the toughest time in my life, and kept me away from missing people, which kept me focused to finish my astrophysics degree. Beyond thankful for their whole crew making the game, and I’m confident it’ll be great! Maybe optimism but this isn’t the avowed team, and mostly the OG FNV guys. So, so stoked.
The one reason I don't think obsidian is working on fallout is because we know Tim Cain does contract work for them still, and he has also made videos talking about coming to terms with the fact he'll never work on fallout again.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but Obsidian needs to get all hands on deck for a big budget, proper AAA title. It's the next logical move for them. They clearly have the talent and the opportunity to create a generation, genre or decade-defining title, but it'll never happen as long as they stay in the AA space. Maybe they're happy with how things are, who knows, but I see the opportunity there to really go next level and it'd be a shame not to take it.
I'm honestly kinda surprised Outer Worlds did well enough to warrant a sequel. Going from New Vegas to Outer Worlds was such a let down with basically everything in the game besides graphics feeling like a direct downgrade. Weaker story, weaker enemy variation, weaker choices, weaker character interactions etc. Most people I know that played it basically thought it was just "fine".
The Outer Worlds was comfort food. It excelled in the RPG component and that was enough for me. It looks like Outer Worlds 2 is improving on the foundations on the first one and improving the combat AND it's coming to the PS5!? Heck yeah! Sign me up!
Things that can be changed in OW2 would be more specific customisation, when you create or level your character you lvl up multiple things in 1 category making you become good in anything instead building something specific. The choices in story where also a bit like if you want the “good” ending you gotta put more work on it which sometimes those work can easily be missed. Combat was really good but lacked diversity in weaponry but it seems the second game is solving that issue. Enemies where fine in OW1 they were mostly pretty dumb like running you down or barely hiding itself into safety.
I thought Outer Worlds 1 was good but not great. Enjoyed my time with it but didn't see a reason to do a second playthrough. I'm rooting for OW2 to be amazing. 2025 could be a comeback for Obsidian if OW2 and Avowed are homeruns.
I dont have fairh in obsidian to make another new vegas. FNV was the last time I really enjoyed a game from them and I dont think thats going to change. Much like Bioware and BGS, I feel like the studio isnt capable of recreating the magic they once had. They just arent the same studio i fell in love with. Thats me though. Happy for anyone who enjoyed Outer Worlds and is excited for the next one.
Biggest problem with the outer worlds was that it was a victim of its smaller budget and relatively short development time. This like like it has none of those issues, and I could not be more excited
I wonder just how badly Matt Hansen has Obsidian sweating right now? Even Chris Avallone seemingly stumbled out of Hibernation and more or less asked why hes still there. Last time i heard from that dude was in 2020 when VTM:B 2's nonsense was in full swing.
Never understood the positive reception of TOW 1. Everything about it felt bare bones and mediocre to me. The gunplay had nothing interesting to it (they didn't even have something like grenades), the maps felt uninspired, exploration was cut completely, dialogue and plots were boring to the point I had to skip a lot of it, the skill system just exists, the game overall doesn't feel immersive. Honestly as a big fan of Fallout 3, New Vegas and even 76 to a great degree I really have no clue how people think this is a good game, it's a straight downgrade to those Fallout titles in almost every way. I suspected that the only reason why the game was received so positively was only because it was released after Bethesda released their buggy mess of Fallout 76. It's like people hyped TOW out of spite.
Wait... In 2019 you said outer worlds 2 was coming sooner than we thought, and now that it's coming out over 6 years after that.... you're taking some sort of credit for being "right?"
I don't think Insomniac ever pulled off a double release, Spider-Man 2 came out 2 years after Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. And then the same deal when they released the reboot to ratchet and clank.
What he means is that Insomniac released Rift Apart, Miles Morales and a Spider Man Remaster within a year and still released Spider Man 2 just 2 years later. They really are one of the most effective developers in the industry
I honestly think the most surprising thing about Outer Worlds came later when Starfield came out. Despite The Outer Worlds being a mid game it is far better than Starfield if you ask me. Ship building and space flight can't save Starfield. We also have to think where Obsidian was when they made that game. They clearly didn't have the backing they honestly needed to make the game more in-depth. I do believe that the new one will make strides to deepen the game. As far as the first one goes I think they did have some solid interactions and dialogue. When Bethesda, it's obvious rival, has been losing good dialogue; it was refreshing to have The Outer Worlds bring back some of the old stuff.
I think the success of Obsidian mostly because of down to earth, not over-ambitious projects. That's why when I heard that Avowed was gonna be the next Skyrim, I was worried and it ended up becoming more of a semi open world game. This is good because as always that allows Obsidian to focus on the individual environments and rpg elements. At its current state, I think a single one of those rpg teams are not capable of making the next Fallout. It is possible if you combine them into a single bigger team but I would still not be sure that is enough. Moreover, gamers would be deprived of an actually productive studio making rpgs if it does not pan out. I think Obsidian needs a lot more money, resources and time to make the next Fallout. In my opinion, it might be a good idea to get Obsidian to do a Fallout 1 Remake in the form of a crpg. I would love that as someone never played the Fallout 1.
Hey at least they had more than a single pistol / blaster... Jokes aside, the lack of content and cartoonish style drove me off of what seems otherwise a cool game.
The original game had an incredibly shallow plot. We sent the Starship Enterprise to establish a new colony and forgot how 20th century farming works. We still have all of our Federation technology and it works perfectly. With a justification for the Federation technology not working you could make a decent StarTrek episode or double episode out of that plot synopsis. Obsidian’s writers don’t have any justification so they can’t get a single episode forget a season length video game out of the plot synopsis.
How is it bizarre? Gamers are tired of the DEI thing in games, we want characters we can relate to. Obsidian is at the top of virtue signaling in games.
I've had the same thought about Obsidian picking up a New Vegas sequel after Outer Worlds and Avowed. It defo lines up really well and probably is the best chance in years for them to do it. Lets see what happens
I want them to expand the world a little more, not so linear not so short I really enjoyed the 1st one it could have been greatness instead of just good. More like the opening world, which felt long & expansive.
I'm done commenting on the culture war in video games, movies and t.v. All I get is hate and I don't appreciate it. I'm just going to do my research and buy whatever games I like. END OF DISCUSSION!!!!
The lack of self awareness of culture warriors is so funny. They complain about something one day and then do the EXACT same thing the next. Remember when hogwarts legacy came out and some people were boycotting it and the other side went “why would you not play a game for political reasons, just enjoy the game.” Now those EXACT SAME PEOPLE are doing the EXACT OPPOSITE for the outer worlds 2. Truly embarrassing

The Outer Wolds was never a game made to please every kind of players. We need to want niche things again. Not everything should be for everyone.I loved the first one and I am so excited about a new one. It's also too early to aggregate a game that no one played yet.
From what I recall what’s going on with Earth(no one has heard from Earth in a while) is a big mystery and it seemed like that should be a major plot point in the second game. I hope that’s the case.
I didn’t love the first game, had fun while playing but I hope this sequel can bring it up a level and make it good. I’m more hyped for avowed personally but we’ll see
I absolutely loved The Outer Worlds, if it’s just the first game but improved upon and expanded then I’m all in. I enjoyed the gameplay, visual style, and the writing. I’m honestly really excited about this.
I have not played The Outer Worlds, but after watching two trailers of Outer Worlds 2, I'm excited to play this game, it feels like a comedy rpg which is rare these days.
It's been a while since I've play the outer worlds, I can't even remember if I finished the game. But I do remember playing it and I do remember enjoying my time with it. I'm always interested in what obsidian is cooking up in their brains, it's always interesting to say the very least.
Outer Worlds was a little too quirky for me and I kinda had a hard time engaging in the world. I like what they were going for though and I'll give the sequel a fair shake. I really wish Obsidian and CDPR embraced that some fans want to see the characters they made in 3rd person
Obsidian should get out of the ghost of Fallout New Vegas, specially their gameplay and world has the same flaws as Bethesda game and specially when they have already lost their magic from New Vegas. They should make their unique open-world rpg. So that it doesn’t feel like another fallout from bethesda with different name. It has no unique feel like how other open world games feel different from one another.
Iv fallen in love with Starfield, all the new dlc espically the escape (it took 5 playthroughs), grindterra mods on RPG mode (extreme difficulty) wit the massive shattered space expansion which has taken 40+ hours of my time now... I have to admit and apologize to Bethesda this is truely the best Role playing game they have made (bad animations aside)..sadly most people played on casual action mode not Extreme which is the RPG mode you cant survive without chems, diplomacy/intermediation/manipulation,/ using xenobiology with aliens, you use every single tool and its a crazy adventure. Whoever wrote Final thoughts and hid that secret cache on the roof that explained everything is brilliant. Outer worlds wass good but its a casual kids game reminded a lot of borderlands 1
I feel like the Outer Worlds 1 (one of my all time faves) feels like it was a proof of concept type of game. It was rather short didn't do anything overly ambitious, and delivered a refreshing rpg with comfortable Obsidian era Fallout vibe. The Outer Worlds 2 is gonna be a (and this is just a guess) Borderlands 2/Fallout New Vegas/Witcher3/Skyrim kind of game. It's gonna be a smash-hit fan favorite sequel. That might be wishful thinking but so far I can't think of any truly horrendous Obsidian games. All in all, I think this will definitely be a blast, smash-hit or no smash-hit.
Despite it being one of my favorite games I personally don't want a game set after new vegas I feel they'll need to pick a cannon ending and it'll devalue the idea of the player choosing their own story, I think a prequel would be such a greater idea
I really enjoyed the Outer Worlds looking forwards to them tweaking things for the better though. AI and stealth in particular felt very primitive. Really enjoyed the variety of quests though and how they can be completed or the multitude of different lines and also how your party interjected to be apart of the conversations. Then after playing the DLCs they seemed to be going in a really good direction so my hopes for Outer Worlds 2 is it continues that trajectory.
Outer worlds was ok but for some reason i really liked it even tho i thought the game was kinda mid hope the story is a litt better and we can get a romance
I don’t mind the quirky world they created but them not taking their own story seriously really killed it for me. If this game doesn’t have a more serious tone it will be an easy pass for me
Gonna have to hard pass. Hansens inability to take criticism, even constructive wise, has tainted Obsidian. He has really shown that he doesn't care about his games value vs. his own opinions.
I just hope they make it harder. The first one was to easy. The endgame is a bit underwhelming when you one shot the armored elite soldiers with your handgun.

Please, could you explain why you'd want a 3rd person view? It seems a common request but I fail to see any advantage of it. Thank you.
I agree, I feel like it's very mediocre
Doubt Outer Worlds was as boring as Starfield played that game for half an hour, hopped off then uninstalled never looked back.
If Elderscrolls 6 is even mid, Bethesda is in MAJOR trouble, if they are not already.
its kind of a safe bet that if they stick with the same game engine an ES6 made by the same team with the same leads that made Starfield is going to be extremely formulaic and behind the times at best. which might be enough for a lot of ppl to just have a new world to get lost in, but a lot of ppl who want more from Bethesda, from modern games or from RPGs in general are gonna consider it pretty mid
@@mediumvillain true didn't think of that
I feel like a lot of people were expecting a spiritual successor for New Vegas when the first Outer Worlds came out. What we got was a reasonably short space romp with a neat aesthetic. As long as Outer Worlds 2 expends on that, I think it should do well.
The Outer Worlds is free on Prime Gaming btw!

Hope they improve the perks, loot, cosumables and add npc daily routines.
hope there is a 3rd person option this time, it being first person only was the main thing i disliked about the first one.
There is a lot of room for improvement to be sure, hopefully they deliver on that with TOW2.
I liked the world building but I never completed the game. Just didn't grab me
You are not. I liked the diversity in playstyle choices, but the characters never really connected with me and I found the gameplay very boring mid to late game as I was basically just killing everything within seconds. Hopefully they can take a big step forward with the second game.
I hate the game but I did try. It's just corny an boring. Story is meh
Hey Matty! Just wanted to share with you even if you never see ^_^
I have been watching your videos FOREVER man, I am talking wayyy back in those Fallout 3 days, I still remember your take of Fallout 4 and your thoughts of it may having a banking system when we saw the USS Constitution crash in the trailer 😂
Just wanted to say thank you for providing content for this long man, I have long lost all the accounts I previously used as a kid and they are probably still subscribed to you..
Lol knowing Microsoft they are just as likely to close down Obsidian as they are giving them Fallout.
This about to be a good year. Avowed, KCD2 and the outer worlds 2. KCD2 being my most hyped
It honestly looks identical to the first game. If someone said it was a DLC I would’ve believed them
What’s wrong with that? It’s better than soft rebooting each release
“MAY THE LAW HAVE MERCY ON YOU… I WON’T!!” 😂😂 I’m gonna miss the old crew
I love The Outer Worlds, it’s hilarious and the world is a lot of fun. I’m now replaying it for funsies. Super excited to see more of this world. Also, I liked the Secret Level episode, even though it was really depressing at the end lol.
In terms of characters, I just hope Phineas gets a mention. He was by far my favorite character in the first game.
Outer Worlds: A world I wanted to dive into and know more at every turn
Star field: A world that I had no interest in and would prefer to take an excel tutorial
Outer Worlds 2 is gonna be awesome
what was Outer Worlds about again? I can't think of a SINGLE memorable quest from that game.
Obsidian fans are feasting indeed 🤩
chatgpt ahh comment
PEERLESS dialogue?!?!? You can't be serious
The Outer Worlds 2 original announcement trailer was the funniest thing I've ever seen
Game needs a third person option
Been waiting six years!!! Most important game to me. Man, how much that game saved my wandering mind in the toughest time in my life, and kept me away from missing people, which kept me focused to finish my astrophysics degree. Beyond thankful for their whole crew making the game, and I’m confident it’ll be great! Maybe optimism but this isn’t the avowed team, and mostly the OG FNV guys. So, so stoked.
I played the outerworlds on gamepass and whilst it was kinda fun it lacked replayability imo
It lacks replayability because it’s not that good
For real, it did not live up to the Fallout: New Vegas comparison.
Agreed. It's fun for 1 playthrough but there's not much reason to do 2 or more.
@JSmooove98 I find it odd how everyone loved it when it released but now everyone supposedly says it's bad? Hmmm...
@@ukmaxi I never liked it
I do really need to replay it. I almost forget everything that happened since I only played it once when it was released.
You know what would be really revolutionary for Obsidian? Letting you actually play the game passed the main story.
Kinda hard to take a victory lap when you said two games were coming sooner than we think and they didn't release until 6 years later.
matty's high on his own supply
I hope we will get closure on TOW1. At the end Phineas said "earth has gone dark" and I wonder why
I loved the outer worlds and can't wait for the sequel
TOW2 is one of my to 5 hyped games for 2025.
After learning more about Matt Hansen, I totally lost the hype...
I wonder just how badly Matt Hansen has Obsidian sweating right now? Even Chris Avallone seemingly stumbled out of Hibernation and more or less asked why hes still there. Last time i heard from that dude was in 2020 when VTM:B 2's nonsense was in full swing.
I’m extremely excited for this. But matty let’s be real we’re not getting a fallout remaster
I wonder if in Outer worlds 2 if they'll show what happened to earth?
I'm excited 😊
I hope the next game keeps up with the times. The first felt like a 2008 game, hopefully this one feels like it belongs in 2020s
I would cry tears of joy for a Fallout van Buren and Classic Fallouts (1 and 2) Remastered. Please😭😭
Fallout Van Buren is a project name of a part of a demo. You will never see anything else of that ever again idk why you’d think you would lmao.
Obsidian is dead to me until Matt is fired and there is an apology made.

@@JD.ONLINEBeen living under a rock?

Wait... In 2019 you said outer worlds 2 was coming sooner than we thought, and now that it's coming out over 6 years after that.... you're taking some sort of credit for being "right?"
That WAaaa sound can only mean one thing..
Matty posted!
What were the like 5 different armors in outer worlds? With even fewer colors? I could be wrong but they all looked identical to me
Hey at least they had more than a single pistol / blaster...
Jokes aside, the lack of content and cartoonish style drove me off of what seems otherwise a cool game.
I’m concerned about Obsidian to say the least.
I thought it wasn't gonna be on the PS5. I welcome it though. Love the first one, despite issues.
The switch up on Obsidian and The Outer Worlds in the comments is so bizarre lol
it's the anti-woke brainrot, they're professional victims at this point.
there's always an issue.
It's not bizarre, people are tired of the woke DEI agenda that Matt Hansen and many others at Obsidian have been pushing.
How is it bizarre? Gamers are tired of the DEI thing in games, we want characters we can relate to. Obsidian is at the top of virtue signaling in games.

I'd love to see parvati in outer worlds 2!! even though its probably a long shot
What is this? An absolute banger of a game with an wickedly sweet ice shotgun, I mean that thing is going to be my go to
Despite it being one of my favorite games I personally don't want a game set after new vegas I feel they'll need to pick a cannon ending and it'll devalue the idea of the player choosing their own story, I think a prequel would be such a greater idea
Fingers crossed that Parvati shows up
Outer worlds was ok but for some reason i really liked it even tho i thought the game was kinda mid hope the story is a litt better and we can get a romance
I don’t mind the quirky world they created but them not taking their own story seriously really killed it for me. If this game doesn’t have a more serious tone it will be an easy pass for me
The Outerworlds 2 secret level is dam good!
Man, I don't know if any title screen track in gaming has ever hit as hard as the one from The Outer Worlds.
