That is a wild statement, I wasn’t impressed by it but I can understand why some people enjoyed it (it has some redeeming qualities) but the vast majority of quests were extremely stale and generic
I liked a lot of it. The exploration was more of the problem, the writing was pretty much on par with their other games. It was definitely better than Fallout 4 though.
I bet that video felt good. You do a lot to maintain a positive channel throughout the year and you deserve to vent some frustrations at negative trends in the gaming industry. Thanks as always for the video!
This is not a positive channel. About half the videos are complaining and being negative. He's even got Shattered Space as number 1 and it's not even a game, it's a DLC. Then half of his review of Shattered space in this video isn't even about Shattered Space, it's about Starfield. It's just shameless tbh and bad faith journalism

there are hundreds of people who "never trust" Bethesda since Fallout 76. However, as soon as ES6 get a release date, the same people ended up preordering, hyping, and trusting Todd like a cultist follower. That is why those game devs treat us like complete idiots, even Matty will hype up ES6 with dozens of video. We gamers are truly sheep in a slaughter.

All they had to do was make AC4 but basically all on ships. They had the premise of the game, the technology, models, etc. There is no way it should has e taken them as long as it did. It took like 3 years to make AC4. They should have had Skull And Bones done in way less time.
27:20 I am sorry Matty but Bioware is in fact NOT more capable. I know you want to hope the next Mass Effect game will be the "Bioware is back" moment but I don't think that's gonna happen. Unless they really do some serious soul searching within Bioware and actually take the right lessons from Veilguard (which I don't think is particularly likely) then the next Mass Effect is going to end up on your "most disappointing games of 202X" when ever it gets released.
Microsoft probably learned it the hard way that just acquiring game studios isn't the way. Money doesn't work in the game industry. Only love for gaming works. Microsoft doesn't love their games. It's just services and software to them
@bodacious117 Yes, but I credit machinegames, not Microsoft, because out of 10 games like redfall, one should come out good. Machinegames is 1/1 (after acquisition) but Microsoft 1/10, roughly speaking

To be honest, the moment William Shen left Bethesda Game Studios, it was already clear that all the Starfield DLCs would be bad, and his absence is very noticeable in Shattered Space. Going from a DLC as great as Far Harbor (entirely led by William Shen with minimal involvement from Emil Pagliarulo) to a DLC as bad as Shattered Space (entirely led by Emil Pagliarulo with zero involvement from William Shen). The outcome speaks for itself regarding Bethesda's decisions on how to hire and retain talent.
Veilgaurd's writing is equivalent to a middle schooler's first writing assignment, but even a middle schooler could write a better game than Veilgaurd. Also, I agree with the notion that the choices in the game don't have any actual weight to them
Among all these AAA disappointments, I strongly urge everyone to play Banishers Ghost of New Eden. It's one of the best settings and stories in recent times. Very well written main story and some of the best side quest writing I have seen after Witcher 3

@@heavyartillery-qm5hu Well all I want in a game is to have a good time with it and in DA Veilguards case I did, so Matty and I disagree on that one. To each their own though.

True. Metaphor and reload for sure make up almost 300 hours of gameplay for me alone this year. Just loved them both so much and I am well aware Japanese games pumped out other bangers this year
Veilguard is my number 1 for most disappointing game of 2024....no, most disappointing game EVER! And 90% of that disappointment stems from the utterly GARBAGE level of writing. I never expected BioWare to fall from grace this hard. Their writing was always their strongest aspect, but Veilguard has the worst writing I have ever come across in an RPG-style game. It is so fucking awful, it has completely killed my love for the series.
You know something is bad when it kills even the will to play/watch anything that was related to it. Dragon Age has that power, as star wears and game thrones stuff had.
I feel like other games are way worse but nobody cares. Kingdom Hearts has IMO the worst writing of an action RPG but the gameplay is why I keep coming back to it. This game feels the same to me. I love the gameplay too much for me to say it's bad.
1. Isn't Aspyr the same company that promised a finished KOTOR2 and then left it unfinished? 2. Ubisoft disappointed you in 2024? I think they've already disappointed us in 2025.
Insane to think that I’ve been following this channel since the early days of Fallout 4 speculation. Before it was even confirmed to be a thing and we had those crazy websites counting down things, and this channel spoke about theories and what not. Now look at it, there’s so many different topics and content, really good to see your growth. I appreciate the videos
20:12 MAN the fact we never had a true game with Catwoman when her combat flow felt SO GOOD in arkham city.... Such a crime. Even her "run around" in the city/stealth was super fun.
Actually a great video Matty! As a huge dragon age fan, the veilguard was most disappointing to see for me. I also held out some hope, but now I will not be playing it.
You should play Veilguard, it's great. It took some time to get used to the new art direction, but the game is beautiful. The combat is fun, though I wish there was even more loot, and the characters are well realized, though at the start, some are cliché . There is some Joss Whedon quippy stuff in there, but that's not inherently bad, and there is also some wonderful deep writing. I'm an old console Bioware fan, I played KOTOR and Jade Empire on the days they were released. If you're a person who did Renegade runs on Mass Effect or had team members leave in Dragon Age games because you were so mean to them or did things they didn't like constantly, Veilguard may not be for you, as the Rook character can't really be an asshole, even when you pick the stern response. And there isn't much exploration, if thats what you wanted, as it's not an open world game, but the previous Dragon Age games weren't either. But the rest, if you liked Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition, you'll like Veilguard. And it also has some of those big story decisions, like Origins had. Even If you don't play it now and you play it 2 years in the future when it's on sale for $15 on some storefront, or game store, come back here and let me know if Matty or I, was more correct. (As I also disagreed with Matty about Metaphor Refantazio, I so disliked that game, for a myriad of Reasons, and it was his GOTY. That was the game with the cringe writing to me. Beyond it's plot getting nonsensical near the end. And I'm a Persona 5 lover, and Loved Infinite Wealth this year, so I'm a fan of Sega & Atlus RPGs.)
@@thefearmakerlive "Wonderfully deep writing" lmao. No, it has some of the cringiest writing in video game history. Go and watch some actual good writing in tv shows like The Sopranos, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Game of Thrones (except the final season), and then compare that to what we got in The Veilguard. What's more surprising than how bad the writing was, is how many people just accept this drop off in writing quality and actually think it's good.
On your note about toxic positivity and the failure of concord, have a look at all of Todd Howard and co’s toxic positive. Bethesda has turned into a cesspit of toxic positivity in my opinion. Just look how they respond to all criticism.
I haven't played a proper, AAA game this year, which is crazy to me. Like, I've played a little Delta Force and a couple mobile games, but I just don't have it in me to sit down and play a modern, proper game. I never thought it would happen, but I might be done with 'proper' games. I'm turning into a hyper casual and spending my time on other things like reading and writing.
As one of the 4 people who actually played Reynatis, you are 100% right about the perfect parry being so janky and unwieldy. Like if anything the sudden pause from the circle appearing, which is supposed to help you time stuff better, is actually highly distracting and makes you miss completely. It appears and disappears so fast that you have no time to react to it properly. I do still enjoy this game, and plan to finish it at some point, but it definitely feels like a budget action title that should’ve been refined more.
Everything you said about Shattered Space was right on the money. FO3 is my all time fav, and I’ve been playing Bethesda titles since Daggerfall. I’ll still buy their games, but they broke my heart with this one.
After playing Starfield for about 30 hours, I quit. I suddenly felt like I was swimming in an empty ocean, with no land in sight. If the swimming was fun, I would have kept on going, but it wasn't.
Reynatis's dodge mechanic isn't nearly as pixel perfect as he makes it sound. In fact, when you are recharging your magic you don't have to dodge melee attacks at all until it automatically pulls up the big circle. Once you figure that out, the timing becomes fairly easy.
I really don't get the hate for Star Wars Outlaws. It was jank at launch for sure, and I wouldn't call it "amazing" but I found it to be pretty solid and I appreciated Ubisoft didn't just do their normal towers/map icons template and tried something different with the intel system.
My first impression was a 9/10, it did a lot right and I was having a lot of fun, but the game ended up being a 7 by the end. It's just too repetitive and was lacking that something special. I didn't mind the stealth though, I actually think its a very good stealth game with some interesting mechanics.
6:08 It exists because Sea of Thieves had just came out in early access and was very popular for a few months. That’s literally the only reason. They thought they could copy paste black flag and make it an mmo. It was in development hell for 11 years.
I understand you're a Bethesda fan and that you'd put Shattered Space at the top of your list. Yet as a Dragon Age fan I was hoping Veilguard would top your list like it does mine. That game hurt me.
@@johndeighan2495 Here is the problem, one of the games he listed was literally to him a 5/10. but could be an 8. In a worst games list, you think a 5/10 game should be on there? How he described Outlaws and DA, they didn't sound like they were actually bad, but not what he wanted. There is a difference between being disappointed in something and finding something bad like a Gollum or Skull Island: Rise of Kong which are truly bad games. With that said, if this is all the games he did play, technically the list would work. I thought outlaws was great but im not used to star wars games. Havent played anything since i was a kid. That & the vr game was pretty good too. Im trying to get back into the ip. I also like stealth mechanics a lot.
Bioware simply destroyed DA Veilguard by giving devs right to implement wokesm in their one of the best IPs i felt like the devs concentrated more on this woke idea and make it real in their games
There’s a very real possibility that I simply never install Starfield ever again and that’s truly an indictment on Bethesda as a studio as I’ve been a fanboy my entire life.
That's where I'm at. I even grinded my character up to level 95. I got a bunch of the skill tree abilities that I wanted. The game is just generic, they should've made Fallout 5 instead.
BGS is also my favorite developer. Played all of their games to death and still play FO4 & Skyrim to this day, but havent even touched Shattered Space even though I own it
The case of Dragón Age is more insuferable when you are a spanish speaker and HAVE to read a Codex Full of "inclusive language" IN SPANISH...it felt like they were mocking us

I didn’t hate Starfield…and there was a few days where I enjoyed it. However one day I just stopped in the middle of a mission and never picked it up again. Just no motivation to carry on. Didn’t hate it but felt there just wasn’t any reason to play.
2024 will for me go down as one of the most disappointing years in gaming, we had some seemingly great lineup of games for 2024 but almost all of them fell flat on their face. I can maybe count on one hand the number of games that were actually good. Hopefully 2025 is better. January already is looking pretty good with FF7R for PC and the new Dynasty Warriors but lets see how the rest of the year goes, although from the top of my head i can't really remember any noteworthy titles coming out in 2025 but hopefully we get some pleasant surprises
Why are people holding on to the idea that Bioware will make a comeback. All the talent that made them great left years ago. It is and never will be the Bioware we all love. Those days are long gone
Full disagree on Hellblade 2 and i'm aware i might be in the minority here. IMO the 2nd opus expands and improves on the 1st one by moving, not on, but beyond the premise of the first. Senua's story is now that of a leader; she's still plagued by the voices and her psychosis, but now she can take up her responsibility of caring for her people, and going after the gods. That story - spoiler alert - is one of taking off the gods' mask, like at the end of a Scooby Doo episode, and finding good ol' human oppression and class struggle at the heart of every story of oppression and domination. Nothing is more powerful or meaningful than that in my opinion. Also graphically and artistically gorgeous; there's a scene in the 4th or 5th act, where the game makes you stop in your tracks and look at the scenery and the sunrise. It knows what it's doing, it's very obvious an in your face, but it still brought the tears out man, that was just masterful visual storytelling.
I agree. I love the game, especially the story. I feel the simple nature of the game is a reflection of the psychosis itself. The walking parts allows for the player to experience the silent dialogue that takes place. It's just senua walking but in her mind she hears these voices. The puzzles were really good but could have had a few more with slightly more complexity. It's an almost quiet journey but that itself possibly resembles psychosis in that no one might realise someone has it.
Matty I respect the fact that you voice your real feelings about Bethesda, because Todd Howard’s been on your channel in a video and stated that he watches your stuff, so really it takes balls to say those things knowing that he will likely see it.
@Zarie_Rose fair enough. I'm definitely in my own bubble of hatred, but it just wasn't a DA game. The setting, the character design, the story telling. It just felt bad to me

I listened to numerous reviews of Veilguard. I knew the game was very different from the last three games so I waited for a sale. But I’m 11 hours into it almost done with chapter 1 and I’m loving it. You really can not know how it plays and looks unless you play it yourself. In terms of worst games for me it was... 1. Dragon Age: Veilguard Then nothing else is even close. That game was such a disaster and the death of a previously great studio. It was this years Starfield for me, but even worse.
I still stand by that the Battlefront Collection wasn't Aspyr's fault. I feel like with Aspyr it depends on what company they are working with, because almost every other port they do is solid, but they must have had a very small time frame for the collection(or just a little bit too little time). Reynatis could've been so good. The problem with the dev studio is that they don't care for graphics(in general, not art style, or fidelity), or gameplay. The studio has amazing ideas, but they just need to get some more budget and spend more time working on their games. I was interested in the game, but the demo was all I needed to play to know it wasn't for me.
Played Dragon age Veilguard and in spite of all the negative talk about DAV (which delayed me getting it), I enjoyed it. The DA1 was still the best storyline. DAV does have fast travel which is great. there is no sneak in game. its a attack only type. there is the part where Taash talks about some crazy life styles which has nothing to do with the game. But overall DAV was enjoyable. It did take a long time to figure out the skills tree and get into playing 3rd person. I had to keep the dot on to see where to shoot the arrows. StarField I had a tough time getting into when thrust into the space fight and ship building, but after 8 hours I started to get into it and enjoyed SF a lot. Will say there are just too many procedural generated buildings that are all the same, the caves in Shatered Space are all the same interiors once you leave the main NPC box area. SF has no working real sneak. On the other hand with mods the game is much better. There still is no core historical aspect to SF. SF needs a Morrowind type dweamer alien perspective not just the here we go to the NG again and its still just the same quests all over again. Players were hoping to fight the Zetas but none exist. Maybe exploring the history of alien races who built the relics.
Shattered Space has great exploration bro, makes you explore other games before playing it.

Vanguard was genuinely an amazing experience. So much so it pisses me off how the rest of the game is low quality in comparison.
I uninstalled it after around six hours. Was bored out of my mind. Dreadful game.

Fr, Matty always tries to speak on the most positive side he can and that’s part of what I appreciate of his channel, he isn’t just a grifter. It was nice to see him vent after the reviews he published last year

Skull and Bones wasn't made to chase a trend but rather to carry on from the momentum AC4 had and it just took far too long with too many problems.
The next good Mass Effect game is going to be Exodus, not ME4.
Microsoft probably learned it the hard way that just acquiring game studios isn't the way. Money doesn't work in the game industry. Only love for gaming works. Microsoft doesn't love their games. It's just services and software to them

I’ve been watching Matty for like a decade now.. how does bro not have at least 1 million subs?!

As one of the 4 people who actually played Reynatis, you are 100% right about the perfect parry being so janky and unwieldy.

IKR learning Matty is a conservative that's bothered by a non binary character saying "I'm non binary" made me so sad lol.
@@pinkplasticlag It had nothing to do with a non binary character saying they are non binary.
It was the way it was said and portrayed in the game that was the problem.
@@Lilac-and-GooseberriesIf polarising is around 90% of people hating it, thus the extremely low sales. It came in #68 or something on Steam for sales. Beaten by dozens of games years old. Seems overwhelmingly negative to me. Even the woke PC Gamer just dropped an article saying it was terrible and their done with BioWare.
@@shannonbayley3684 That’s a huge exaggeration, it’s more 50/50 when you actually look into it. We don’t know official numbers yet, seems so far it’s done average. No where near the levels of greatness but not atrocious either.
Not sure what PC Gamer article you’re referring to, all the ones I’ve seen have been praising it. A little too much imo.
Really feel the same about some of the games on this list. This year was bi-polar in good and bad games.
I don't think MMP knows the difference between the worst and most disappointing games.
It's his own opinion, and many will agree or disagree.
What's your top 10 worst/disappointing games?

I feel like the next Mass Effect from current shell of Bioware will make even Andromeda look like a masterpiece. The bar just can't get any lower at this point.
I am officially unsubscribing
As opposed to "unofficially"?
Have an officially good 2025
Happy new year Matty , 1Morbillion subs this year
In terms of worst games for me it was...
1. Dragon Age: Veilguard
Then nothing else is even close. That game was such a disaster and the death of a previously great studio. It was this years Starfield for me, but even worse.
I thought BioWare were already dead to most people after Mass Effect 3.
@@Lilac-and-Gooseberries I don't know how people didn't see this coming after Anthem and Andromeda
