Planning to get the book for Christmas. Having said all that I am a true "no preorder" believer before anything. A lesson learned over many years. I will wait for proof of reasonably greatness before buying.
The book this game is based on is really good. I enjoyed it and the lore. They already said they’re changing a few things from the book, but the book at least gives you a good understanding of the lore.
I'm beyond excited for Exodus. I'm about half way thru the book from Peter F. Hamilton, and it has me even more excited. I love the concept of time dilation, and I cant wait to see how they incorporate this into the game using choice and consequence. It could truely be epic. The Celeatials are ancient humans, some of the first to make the trip and have essentially evolved into something more alien. This could be epic, and I can't wait to see more.
the time dilation may just kinda remove the player too much from what is happening though. hard to care for something millenia in the past or future. it's essentially just the end game cinematic cut into smaller parts and given during the game rather than at the end.
When I saw this game I wasn’t really looking deep at the development it was just kinda weird now I’m really excited for it hopefully we see something new at the game awards .
Wizards of the coast may have a different kind of evil effect than what EA has on Bioware if that makes sense. Because the more I hear about the development of veilguard the more I realise the devs lost a lot of battles to EA and wotc had to basically be sneakily outplayed by larian for BG3 to be fully realised and for it to be a consumer friendly game
I am optimistic about this game, however I do hope that if they find success (which I believe they will), that they'll manage to stay on track. In a lot of cases with these big games and promising studios, the first game is fantastic, but then it's the sequels that really struggle due to mounting pressure from the studio itself, from the fans, and most importantly, the money men who fund it all.
Are we entering the era of the Triple A Indie game? Small devs lead by seasoned vets, bringing us AAA-level good games while the established houses struggle with their launches and DLC?
Give me a bunch of smaller, handcrafted maps with interesting, diverse areas over generic huge explorable planets with nothing in them any day of the week.
It's not a galaxy, it's a star cluster. The Centauri Cluster may contain about a hundred thousand stars and tens of thousands engineered habitable worlds, but that's a millionth of the total size of our galaxy. Sci-Fi fans should really get their terminology right. Also, forget Interstellar. Just read the book by Peter F Hamilton.
I have listened to the book that Peter F Hamilton wrote and now I am reading the physical book now and I am excited for this game, but I hope that they can pull it off.
Despite them being owned by WotC and by extension Hasbro Ent. I am still excited about this project. Just bc you work for a less then favorable company doesn’t always mean the product will be bad.
I do think they won't meddle with this game too much, however, if it becomes a big success, then they might try to stick their tentacles all over it just like EA did with BioWare after Mass Effect's success.
Drew Karpyshyn is the writer of the game? im sold!! i remember reading the 3 Mass Effect book and his previous works on game are great!! dunno why Bioware dont use him for ME3 and MEA which turns out to be lackluster,.
So many games over the years have said "don't worry, all the old developers from our old studio are working on it now" yet it has never changed the outcome. I'm not saying this game will be bad, I have no clue, but having the knowledge that some old developers are working on it too means absolutely nothing.
@@ReaperCet no i don't. concord is bad, unknown 9 is bad, dragon age Veil guard is bad, evolve is bad, anthem is bad and i played anthem. i can look at gameplay of games as well as searching for videos of multiple people saying good or bad about games to determine if a game is good or not. I also can recognize things I don't like vs things that are bad. i don't like botw or TotK but they are not bad. I don't like the entire genres of sports, racing, or BR's. I may think they are bad personally but that does not mean they are bad.
@@IPlayVideoGamesAndNothingElse you didn't say "bad" you said trash. That tends to mean that there's nothing redeeming about those games. You can't get that information from people on the Internet, especially if they're grifting, you have to see for yourself to actually have a valid opinion. Goat simulator is a "bad" game, but there's *some* fun to be had with it and it's worth *some* amount of time and money. It's not _trash_ I can say the same about anthem, and I won't say anything about the other two, because I haven't played those games.
@@ReaperCet in gamer language the terms trash and bad are interchangeable. i pretty much only play video games and watch RUclips videos. people that comment on video games from multiple platforms use these words to describe a game that is below average and not worth purchasing. look up lotor: Golem and you will find videos saying garbage, terrible, trash, and worst as ways to describe the game. I've never played Golem but its objectively all these things listed about it. it's a buggy mess that has clunky controls boring gameplay and terrible graphics. all of this I can see by doing research on the game instead of listening to people that say you can't judge something you haven't wasted money on.
As a new studio I think they should start with a AA title. Setup the world in the first game and then aim for AAA game next. Start small and aim big vs aim big and faceplant.
I'm more drawn in by a non-voiced character. Picking the dialogue in DA: Origins or Baldur's Gate 3 not only lets me choose what my character is going to say but why they are saying it, I get to choose the intent. With a voiced character they are never truly my character as while I can pick a dialogue option, I don't get to decide the intent behind the line.
@MrMattyPlays which dragon age should i play first? I thought Origins looked too boring and bland Dragon age veilguard is looking pretty good, better than origins. Does it have better writing?
LOL... First thought was "Gee though, WotC isn't a good thing right now... they're getting Hasbro'd to death." So, I'm not alone, and clearly the comments see what Matty didn't here. I'm not going to allow myself to get psyched at all over this.
Drew is an RPG writer, not a looter shooter multiplayer writer. He was forced to work on Anthem when that’s literally not the type of games he writes for. So anthem doesn’t count in history of games he’s written. He left BioWare for a reason, just like Casey did. They saw where BioWare was heading, they didn’t like the Anthem project and they left. Hell they probably don’t even like EA
Getting combined Mass Effect and Warhammer vibes. Far more excited for this then the next ME game. Sadly after andromeda, anthem and veilguard (all which actually had good combat) i no longer trust Bioware to write good characters, story or have the choice with consequence that i enjoy in an rpg.
Tempering hopes is reasonable. But the main Exodus trailer had fantastic writing within that self-contained story. For the last ~10 years--feels like storytelling has been treating the audience like we're idiots. High-level game plots have become increasingly basic with very few story developments. That one trailer showed the type of writing I've been desperately missing and I think it's a really good sign that promo materials show promising writing when that's what we're looking to this studio for.
If I was the head of Lucas films, I would hire Drew Karpyshyn (the lead writer on this game) to write a Star Wars trilogy. Drew Karpyshyn has written some of my favorite story’s in the Star Wars universe. KoToR 1, the Revan novels and the Bane Trilogy. He was also the lead writer on Mass Effect 1 and 2. His style is dark, yet philosophical. He not only makes you emotionally invested in the characters, but the force itself. The stories are Mysteries filled to the brim with action. He understands how to craft a compelling story that grips you from beginning to end. He understands Star Wars and its mythos while expanding on its themes in a respectful way.
Karpyshyn and Zahn should have been the lore keepers and writing directors for Disney SW from day 1. Too late for SW at this point if it remains in Disneys hands though.
I am Highly Skeptical. Too many times I've been excited for a game because it was supposedly being done by 'BioWare' people. So I now I feel 'betrayed' in some ways, and I will never trust them again.
I saw this the other day and I'm excited, signed up for their newsletter and everything. I'll keep my expectations tempered, though...I know how shady WotC is.
Many artist are simply tired of working on the same IP style for years. They want to do something different. The same can be said for actors. It’s only natural that we try to do new and exciting projects.
Also check out Judas, the new bioshock type game from Ken Levine with some innovative sounding procedural storytelling aspects. That one looks like it could be something special even the gameplay looks very much like just modern bioshock. There’s a lot more under the hood.
Hey that's a good point that says something about the industry, Bioware released 3 mass effect and 3 dragon age games during the 7th generation, how many games did Rockstar released during the 8th? ONE, red dead redemption 2, and it was a masterpiece for sure but still, they preferred to milk the shit out gtav that whole time instead of creating at least another game/IP, crazy when you think about it, also aaa games take too damn long to make and sometimes all you want is a nice rounded shorter aa experience.
So.. When i was telling everyone I don't care about next Mass Effect and Don't play DA4 But im waiting for Exodus that was Really old BioWare team's Game? good damn man i still have some taste!
I am sad that Casey Hudsons Humanoid studios and Macs studio closed basically together. So two sci fi games i was really interested in are basically gone now.. Exodus is the last hope for me since i dunno when/if/how Mass Effect 5 will be and come out. Hope Casey will open a new studio and tries funding with kickstarter maybe...
Drew working on this game is all I need to know. I don't even need to be cautious. His Darth Bane trilogy are the best books in the Star Wars universe, and every game story he's written has been on point.
I just hope they focus on making a fun game first, because I'm seeing a trend with some development teams of trying to create a whole set of multi media products before they even know if their IP is any good (see Concord or Unknown 9 Awakening)

My fear with Exodus is that the time travel will risk making any investment (relations.. personal or other, building if they have it, trades etc..) in the game pointless. Time travel is a hard thing to get right. In short.. I'm not a big fan of time dilation as a mechanic in games. Would be happy to be proven wrong, but I have very low expecations due to that mechanic. (And Omega Centauri is in the Milky way.. it's not its own galaxy (just in case that is something they said))
This sounds amazing but I learned, from years of watching Game Expos, that what they want to release and what we get are often different. Creators have a lot of great ideas but just not enough time and resources to do them all. I hope, hope, hope, this game is amazing - I am ready for another Mass Effect quality Bioware game - but I will not get my hopes too high.
It makes me nervous that Archetype is working under WOTC (a very greedy, non-consumer friendly company now), but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Exodus. So much of the Bioware talent like James Ohlen and Drew Karpyshyn now work there. You're my only hope Archetype Entertainment, because I have zero faith in Bioware and the next Mass Effect (if Bioware survives that long).
Wizards of the Coast have become the villain now, so eh. Also, Callisto Protocol was such a let down, and I really don't think anyone would call it a diamond in the rough or a hidden gem, sadly.
I am really curious if Exodus is going to get the same backlash over culture war issues that Bioware & Bethesda does these days. Bioware was pretty progressive even back in the old days of Kotor & ME 1. I wouldn't be surprised if Exodus goes that way too, especially with the strong transhumanist themes in setting.

The RPG I’m wanting to see more of in 2025 is Clockwork Revolution. Hope we get updates
Mattys talk about cautious optimism was what i did with starfield and MAN was that a good move
nvm guys im over the moon this sounds so good
This is going to be the new Mass Effect of this generation potentially
Drew wrote the best Star Wars EU trilogy ever Darth Bane. An incredible read even better audio book with Lucas art sound effects. Just had to say it.
Matty you had to make a video about it, now the studio is closing shop lol
Game not due till '26. They have a TON of lore laid out. And a true vision, every reason to anticipate a Banger. Imho
Are we entering the era of the Triple A Indie game?
Small devs lead by seasoned vets, bringing us AAA-level good games while the established houses struggle with their launches and DLC?
I love your always honest reviews and news, thanks from Denmark :D
RIP BioWare...
I need this game yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Kind of reminds me of the first idea I had for a battlefront sequel/spin off focused on galactic conquest. Had cloning mechanics and everything
RIP Humanoid Origin studio. All eyes on Archetype now.
Premise seems cool. I will keep an eye on its development. Hopefully it pans out well.
Oh you can just taste the mass effect DNA in it and I'm here for it
I have listened to the book that Peter F Hamilton wrote and now I am reading the physical book now and I am excited for this game, but I hope that they can pull it off.
Despite them being owned by WotC and by extension Hasbro Ent. I am still excited about this project. Just bc you work for a less then favorable company doesn’t always mean the product will be bad.
I really liked anthem. I was gutted they shut it down. It had so much potential.
WoTC is at Hasbro’s whim. The greatness of BG1-BG3 is due to the 3rd party studios creativity.
I do think they won't meddle with this game too much, however, if it becomes a big success, then they might try to stick their tentacles all over it just like EA did with BioWare after Mass Effect's success.
I wish sponsorship block was available on mobile, RUclips could ask any price if I never had to hear " a word from our sponsor" ever again
He didnt mention it but there is already a full novel out of Exodus called Exodus: The Archimedes Engine.
Drew Karpyshyn is the writer of the game? im sold!! i remember reading the 3 Mass Effect book and his previous works on game are great!! dunno why Bioware dont use him for ME3 and MEA which turns out to be lackluster,.
I discovered this a couple of months ago. I'm super hyped for it. I'm still scared to get my hopes up very much for any video game these days though.
So many games over the years have said "don't worry, all the old developers from our old studio are working on it now" yet it has never changed the outcome. I'm not saying this game will be bad, I have no clue, but having the knowledge that some old developers are working on it too means absolutely nothing.
I don’t treat all games are like GOTY. I treat all games like concord, anthem, fallout 76. They have to prove that they aren’t trash.
@@IPlayVideoGamesAndNothingElse you have to actually play the games to tell whether or not they're trash
It's not _trash_
I can say the same about anthem, and I won't say anything about the other two, because I haven't played those games.
I thought Origins looked too boring and bland
Dragon age veilguard is looking pretty good, better than origins. Does it have better writing?
LOL... First thought was "Gee though, WotC isn't a good thing right now... they're getting Hasbro'd to death."
So, I'm not alone, and clearly the comments see what Matty didn't here.
Bane trilogy is one of my favorite book series of all time
Karpyshyn and Zahn should have been the lore keepers and writing directors for Disney SW from day 1. Too late for SW at this point if it remains in Disneys hands though.
@@echoesofmalachor3700 spot on.
@@TeamGames19 me too!
Drew is the main reason I am hopeful for this game. WotC better leave him alone.
I am Highly Skeptical. Too many times I've been excited for a game because it was supposedly being done by 'BioWare' people. So I now I feel 'betrayed' in some ways, and I will never trust them again.
Video starts at 4:28. Enjoy
Sssooo excited for this! ❤ No faith Bioware will do ME5 well and this looks amazing
I’m excited for Exodus,it looks better with each video they drop on their channel.
Looks cool
Gonna keep an eye for this.
But as usual guys, never pre order and wait for reviews AFTER release 😁
Are you high? The Callisto Protocol is absolutely NOT a "HiDDeN GeM" 🤣😂
So..
When i was telling everyone
I don't care about next Mass Effect and Don't play DA4
But im waiting for Exodus that was Really old BioWare team's Game?
good damn man i still have some taste!
Side note they should not have given up on anthem 100% salvageable imo
Trailer was really good, they were able to deliver a story! Won my hard, but obviously sceptical for new AAA project
I'll have to watch out for this...but...I still weep for those of us fantasy lovers that have lost what Dragon Age Origins had given us.
Im definitely interested in Exodus, but a big part of me wishes that these guys had been the ones working on the KotOR remake.
Drew working on this game is all I need to know. I don't even need to be cautious. His Darth Bane trilogy are the best books in the Star Wars universe, and every game story he's written has been on point.
Looks awesome, thanks for the deep dive.
I just hope they focus on making a fun game first, because I'm seeing a trend with some development teams of trying to create a whole set of multi media products before they even know if their IP is any good (see Concord or Unknown 9 Awakening)
Get the tie-in novel, Exodus: the Archimedes Engine by Peter F. Hamilton. Very cool world building. Great space opera.
WotC is a big red flag.
Short of Sweet baby inc or similar, it's the biggest. Wotc basically has sweet baby ink baked into its DNA
You guys are such brain rot. Old BioWare games always been woke and hugely succesful
@@Henbot Revisionist nonsense. You're as dimwitted as those knuckle dragging mouth breathers on reddit that believe whatever is written there.
What was woke about KOTOR? Or original Baldur's Gate?
@@Henbot Because they once had talented writers and designers who didn't think like the current grifters do. Agenda and The Message first, gameplay, story and fun a distant second.
@@zybch Except their old games are filled with messages and woke? You seem to be living in a fictional reality that they weren't woken before. Yes, the writing quality has got bad across the board in games, but wokeness has been constantly used by you types that want your politics in the game.
NGL, the entire game gives me powerful Mass Effect vibes.
