    I consider the premium 401A, performance pack, active exhaust and MagneRide as "mandatory" options on a new Mustang GT. At that price point, you'd be crazy not to get a Bullitt as it lumps everything together for very little additional cost and it will hold it's value slightly better than a Mustang GT premium. A new GT350 is 22% more expensive and its price point is in another league. If money was no object, I'd go GT350 all day and attend at least a couple of track days per year. However, here in the real world money does impact our decisions and there is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing a Bullitt.

    Your reasoning is sort of why I decided to go with the new WRX over the STI. I went with a fully loaded WRX Limited for $35k (could have gotten a base STI for cheaper). My reasoning was that the car was just better for daily driving with all the features and the more economical engine. Even though I love my WRX, I do get a feeling of inferiority a bit when I pull up next to a STI. There's something about having the next model up that just stays in the back of the brain even though I know the WRX is better for me as a daily.

    Matt, I think you are right in your decision to go for the Bullit instead of the Shelby GT350. The Shelby is awesome having driving it finally but it was hard to enjoy in the street. Plus to improve the car its harder to do but doable yet the new Coyote motor will be more available for better tuning for those who want more out of it. I myself would get a Shelby if possible because I enjoy the look and it fits me for what I need. Yet as a daily driver...the Bullit would be the better choice. Thanks for sharing and may you enjoy your new Bullit...and hopefully no one hits it LOL 😎.

    It's nice to see the enthusiasm for the Bullitt is still going strong.
    I remember working for FoMoCo. when the fourth generation (2001) Bullitt hit the scene. So much hype that the majority of Bullitt's that initially sold were to Ford employees lucky enough to get their order in first. After all, the automotive industry is more about "who" you know rather than "what" you know. Alas, some things never change.
    Congrats again Matt. Perhaps we should contemplate a new segment alternative to 'Mustang Mondays'? Maybe something along the lines of a continuous vlog as a new Bullitt owner titled "Bullitt Points" or "Full Metal Jacket Fridays"... Well maybe not FMJ Fridays being that the news is already a lot of work but you get the idea. Then again, 'Mustang Mondays' still sounds great too.
    Keep up the great work my friend.

    • @BertShackleford

      +Logical Man That's fair. It all comes down to personal preference and the history behind the movie. Mr. McQueen was a legend in the automotive and Hollywood realm. He performed all his own stunts and without a doubt, he has solidified his place in Hollywood as the world's greatest car chase scene in film history.
      The famous Bullitt chase scene was done on location and performed by Steve McQueen himself. You simply cannot mimic or even hope to come close to the original chase scene from the movie. To quote Emanuel Levy in 2003 "Bullitt contains one of the most exciting car chases in film history, a sequence that revolutionized Hollywood's standards".
      IMHO, the second best car chase scene in film history didn't come until 2000 when Nicholas Cage roared through the streets in the dearly beloved 'Eleanor' from the remake of "Gone in 60 seconds".
      Take care my friend.

    Matt, it amazes me anyone is questioning your decision to go Bullitt over the GT350. I have to wonder if these folks know you very well. I've been subscribed to your channel for about two years now. When I subscribed, you were still driving the Ecoboost. That car, and both your subsequent GT's have all been green, in honor of the Bullitt. It's been your obsession since long before that, I'm sure. Get the Bullitt! I'm looking forward to your videos on the car. Take care of it and leave it to your kids! In the mean time, watch out for motorcycles and it would probably be wise to not drive in heavily wooded areas too. ;-)

    I totally agree on the fun factor, it seems like most people are just concerned with how fast cars are without accounting for the fun factor. It is difficult to enjoy a car that is just insanely fast and you are breaking every speed limit in second gear. A slower car that you get to push harder is much more fun on the street, which is where cars are driven 99% of the time or more!

    You forgot to mention the price differences in maintaining both vehicles which SHOULD have been more of a deciding factor than the initial up-front cost, IMO.
    The GT350 has:
    - $380 OEM pads
    - $1000 OEM rotors
    - $1200 tires
    - 10-10.5 qz oil that'll cost $180 if you DIY (which most people change at 1,000/5,000/10,000 miles
    - expensive insurance even with a clean driving record (at least in CA)
    - ~$1700 CA gas guzzler tax
    - will probably need to clear bra the front (which I doubt people do to GT's) another $1000 give or take
    and other more expensive shit to deal with. These are the reasons I didn't pull the trigger ;(

    @dlg5485 6 лет назад

    I totally agree with you about cars with lower limits being far more fun to daily drive. Track focused cars like the Shelby, ZL1, ZR1, etc are not my cup of tea for exactly that reason. I'm not a pro driver, nor are most people (who think they are), so I'm not arrogant enough to believe that I have the skilled to safely utilize 600+ HP without killing myself or someone else, plus it's just not worth the additional cost for these top performance models, in my opinion. I'd much rather have a car with 450-ish HP that can be thoroughly enjoyed on the road, but can also be great for occasional track duty. Good choice!

I know that stateside folk have a lot of passion for cars & also for brands. Chevy folk, Dodge folk & Ford folk in particular...... Thank goodness that we're all different, it would be a boring world otherwise. The only real question should be, "Does it make you happy?" If a Challenger Hellcat Rocks your boat, Great, If you'd prefer to cruse down the road in a Kia Soul Turbo, good for you so long as it puts a smile on your face. :-) Oh yeh & me, I love the Bullitt which they are also making for the right hand drive market too...... Overall, the new Bullitt looks great. However, I don't know what the stylists were thinking when they chose red brake calipers. They don't compliment highland green very well, nor do they suit the Bullitt's classic, low-key styling. Alternatively, black or some variation of silver/grey (my preference) would look great. Plus, they would work equally well on the black Bullitt, as well.

    • @MattMaranMotoring

  • @Drake5153
    @Drake5153 6 лет назад

    honestly, im not sure why people are comparing the two, their two different mustangs, setup in two different ways. the gt350 is the performance-orientated build with a wider front stance for better grip, better tires, a track-based engine that has a HUGE powerband, and a wonderful tremec 6 speed to beat on, couple that with a basic interior and the rest that comes with the R package and you've got a store-bought track car that you could daily. on the other hand you have the bullitt thats based on the current mustang, but stylized to be a heritage car, something your gonna want to drive everyday, that probably isn't going to be driven hard, or exceed 100mph, look good, feel good, something more applicable to the masses and will still hold more value than the average mustang. does that mean one is better than the other? yea lol but not in the same category, so why the fuss?

    I looked up 2019 GT350\R and it can come with leather, B&O sound and all the safety alerts so there you go. Still just the manual trans offered but should have the 10speed as an option. Such a great auto tranmission.

    Matt the speed limit in pittsburgh pa is 70 mph so there should be no problem reline shifting in second gear if you are worried about getting a ticket.

    The Tech thing was a concern for me with the GT350 for me also as a daily driver. Simply having to USB my phone to the car for Apps is not only an inconvenience for me but a safety issue also. I change my Music while I drive for instance. I know I could update the head unit, but if I bought a Shelby I'd keep it a SHELBY. The Coyote is still a real good motor.

    • @TheGrindcorps
      @TheGrindcorps 6 лет назад +1

      Daniel Avila it’s like he is describing everything I don’t want in a car not that bullit is bad with all the electronic bullshit, “convience” infotainment, poorer traction etc.... basically a worse car as why he wants the bulllit. I understand price perspective but Obviously, but it sounds like for same price he’d rather have less of a car and more of like of a relatively bloated car with stuff that distracts and takes away from driving that is less safe and “skower in his opinion.” 80 mph in second gear is bad because it breaks highway speed limits? Insane grip
      Is and better breaking is bad? But lane departure warning is good? Do people like not drive anymore or can’t pay attention on the road? I can’t imagine and have never needed studd like that nor want regardless of car. With some of this new money wasting tech you can’t get away from it’s like why would I ever need or want a car that puts me Auto keeps me in the right lane unless I wanted to drive around shitfaced drunk and not swerve or depart lanes and get arrested or hit someone? Like maybe I’m a different breed but unless you are severely impaired or like asleep or not driving and screwing with tech toys It honestly seems hard for me to not stay in the correct lane. Well it is for me personally. I mean different strokes fir different folks but if the guy is unhappy he can’t break the limits of a GT350 easily on the road and wants to do that in a car or it’s too powerful or good for public roads why even bother with a bullet. Might as well get like a Miata so you can string it out on public roads without violating speed limits as easily. Or hell a minivan hahahahah.

      Rude

    • @TheGrindcorps
      @TheGrindcorps 6 лет назад

      I mean, sorry if it came off that Rude. I guess that is, was the great thing about America, many western kinda free but cartelized(labor unions and corporations as well as many other rent seeking offenders Are all part of the issue as they get more welfare and ask for and get less competitive and heavily distortionary laws and regulations enforced out of self interest.). There is business/labor etc... and they rationally don’t want competition or innovation even at low levels and the. There are general economic or healthy market practices. While people may chide against corporations or unions, or immigrants or public sector workers or whatever, really the first thing that really get’s overlooked that would make everyone collectively wealthier would be.... not incentivizing corruption and welfare/rentseeking and cartel style laws to harm everyone else instead of trying to be productive. Most welfare exists just in laws that don’t necessarily pay anyone directly ever, they just destroy or ban, competitive market practices and create literally incentive to essentially do the opposite if productive and they are pervasive. People or groups including corporations get frustrated they aren’t doing better(hard to with such poor laws unless you just get them more in your particular favor) and the situation just gets worse. “Capitalism” I guess we call it here in America is very close to how Chinese market economics work. And they call it market socialism with Chinese characteristics.
      Ironically Trump admin and the rent seekers attached to them seem to support this type of nearly Chinese top down controlled Cartelistic market structure...
      But I mean it’s America so there is sort of the option of picking what you want and having the freedom to choose between very limited options because everything else is illegal or doesn’t exist because stupid practices caused it to not be able to exist and so we are all effectively poorer....
      But I mean at least you can still chose between somethings that haven’t been banned yet and some pretty cool cars are still on that list. And if you can afford them... wait stop, most people totally can’t reasonably afford them responsibly. I’m fortunate in that regard, not really an issue for me. Hope
      It’s not for Bullitt owner like taking on a lot of debt for that car.... but I mean still his choice and we all have different tastes. Just I have different preferences and really, I’ll probably be taking a Zl1 1le Camaro for my next daily driver and should pretty easily be able to get about 20-30k off it new. It’s not for everyone, especially as a daily driver... I’ll definitely save those tires it comes with for track duty as they just are pricey, wear quick and unnecessary for Road use. I mean if the bullit makes the dude happy, I’m glad for him and he did the right thing, got the right car for him I hope. Just the right car for me/my preferences are very different obviously and I’ll take a Zl1 1LE for the price he spent on the Bullitt new and enjoy it more as a daily driver. He probably would not enjoy daily driving or road tripping in that car. For me, it would be opposite is all. His car is inferior... for me. That doesn’t make it an inferior car or a worse car for anyone else anymore than a minivan is... just... I had a minivan as a second car to move stuff in.... I spent $500 on it and didn’t drive it much..... to me getting a new bullit would be kinda like soending 60k on a minivan. Now obviously I’d take the bullet if I had to spend 60k on either of those or like get shot, but neither are propositions I would really consider otherwise...

    • @TheGrindcorps
      @TheGrindcorps 6 лет назад

      I mean IDK I think for bullit price I’d just go ahead and get a used v10 M5 for like 20k or less with 50k miles or less and buy a 1ss 1le camaro new for I can find one for 35k if not less 2018 or 2017 at least before taxes. That is if I have to spend all that money on cars... I get a comfy 8500rpm redlining V8 ridiculous 500hp family car lightly used with probably a lot more features than Bullitt and a faster and in my opinion much better sports coupe that is also cheaper and much better to drive on the track... And I’d have 2 cars for the same amount of money..... if you reaaaaaaallly like the Bullitt then it will probably be nore valuable to you than both of those... To me, it would maybe be competitive with one of the 2 cars the V8 1ss 1le camaro at 35-40k.... maybe. Otherwise it just seems crazy and overpriced to me. Obviously I’m not a lot of people as for sells a lot of mustangs even the Bullit for a lot more than I think they are possibly worth and peoeple like them and don’t mind in my opinion mostly spending a crazy amount of money generally about 20k over how Imd value those
      Mustangs personally. And they sell well. So Ford is doing something right. Just not making a car that is that appealing to me at such price points vs competition or no car.... but people like them, they sell, and hopefully people enjoy their cars... don’t know how else to put it. I mean for Bullit money I’d have a new bmw M2 competition coupe and a little hacking and a few thousand dollars and I would have a much more equipped lightee car, and a solid 500 hp to the crank. I mean Bmw M2 competition coupe is being dyno’d at around close to 400 rwhp and torque factory in some cases so, so a tune at most and it probably is has more hp and def more torque than bullit as it has the m4 cs engine detuned. A couple thousand to unlock anything they tuned out and a few parts and yeah I’m sorry but that just has way way more goodies for bullit price and is also faster and more nimble and lighter... if you prefer Bullit more power two you. I’d take a cheaper lighter and faster more powerful M4 essentially vs the bullit as it is in the very same price range...

  • @speedfiend925
    @speedfiend925 6 лет назад

    With the adjustable suspension added to the Bullitt combined with added power you are basically getting 3/4 the capability of the GT350 at 10k less in price. That is a pretty good deal IMO. That price gap no doubt is the Flat Plane Crank engine which is arguably the better collector investment if you plan to keep the car awhile. 😉

  • @MrMortadella1
    @MrMortadella1 6 лет назад

    I agree with him. The GT350 is not for the street, relatively very little low end torque so it feels kind of anemic around town considering the HP. You have to track it to really enjoy it and how often are you really gonna track it. Would never consider it as a daily driver. Although looks wise it looks so much better than the 2018 with that terrible front end. Matt didn’t sound very convincing saying he’s learned to like the 2018 looks more. The car has an ugly front end, end if story. Can’t get around it. Hopefully Ford doesn’t do the same misstep for the 2021 model.
