As a new owner of a 19 Bullitt, I have to agree with your impressions of it. As it climbs through the rpms the intensity just builds until you get to 6k. Then it is unreal. This is the first nice car I have owned since high-school and I have no regrets, not even the price tag. The comfort on long drives, the awesome range of rpms, it is a full package and an amazing GranTour car.

About the badges...the car is not a "Bullitt", it is a Mustang, Bullitt Edition. The debadging was not done to disconnect it from the Mustang line, it was done because Steve McQueen's car in the movie was missing some of its badges, most notably, the one in the grille. This model is actually badged properly to match the movie car, with a couple of cute special edition badges (like the fake fuel filler) to identify it as such. Ford didn't "forget" to change the wheel caps. Same with the added chromed trim, versus the usual black...it is designed to suggest the 1968 model, which had more brightwork.

Hi Sarah, loved the video! Such a great title! As you demonstrated, the Bullitt is about loud pipes and the screaming Gen III Coyote. Few other engines sound or have the feeling as it revs to 7400. It’s pure mechanical music! Like you said at 8:05, "I just don't get tired of that". I've owned a lot of engines and my 2020 Coyote is my favorite.
    PS: Great shifting!

Nice to see you drive it in a way that even Steve McQueen would approve of. This is the best effort by Ford to capture the feeling that the original 1968 GT gave. I will start giving your reviews a 1-10 taco 🌮 score. Score for this one:
10 🌮 with some hot sauce on the side.

If you ever have the chance to drive a 1967 / 1968 FE block (390 or 428), take advantage of that. While this new version is way more technologically advanced, the original version will give you a sense of the very character you describe, plus the smell of good old American car exhaust adds to the experience. Also, great job on the video editing on this one, you are fast becoming the new American Top Gear or Grand Tour of You Tube.

Great review Sarah! I'm glad you liked it! There's lot of great sports car options at the 50k mark, but very few offer this much horsepower along with the combo of a loud V8 and a manual transmission. Aside from my love of the movie, those things are what make the Bullitt special to me since they're becoming more and more rare these days. Also, at the rate your channel is growing, you'll be able to afford 50k cars soon! Keep up the great work!

Ms. Sarah: I just discovered your most excellent channel today. About damn time. I bought a Bullitt 3 months/6,000 miles ago. I was 25 when the Bullitt movie came out, so I guess I'm at the graybeard edge of the target demographic. I traded in a perfectly respectable Honda Clarity, but Hey, you're only 76 once. My vanity plate reads AGE APPR. Re your review, you nailed it: the Bullitt does feel very special. And my take is that it's a lot like you: one of a kind, a unique concoction, consistently uncommon and delightful.

Wait, I have to find my walker, teeth, and hearing aid. I learned to drive in a 1964 1/2 HO Mustang convertible. 289 CI, 4 on the floor, AM Radio, no A/C, and 57 T-Bird wheels (The real pretty wire spoke ones). So while you get your sippy cup, I'm going for the Red Solo Cup. I may not be as good as I once was, but that 65 stang was as good as it will ever get. We invented 'Drifting' and 'Rally' driving in that car during the winters in Minnesota. I saw Bullet on the Silver Screen (that is what we called movie theaters last century.) You may have your youth and looks, but you will never have a Mustang slide for 40 feet across a movie screen.
Great review, love them all, during the brake test, your ears moved right next to your eyes, and your hair was reaching for the windscreen.
BUT, THREE BEANS. You gave the Honda Cart car 3.5 beans. I think it deserves at least a 357, maybe even a 44 magnum.

But yes, an LX5.0 would be pretty awesome, even if there is no way it coild ever come in under $20k, though it could probably happen for $25-27k.
Thats still a significant difference from the over $40k it now takes to even get into a v8 mustang. I am happy with my pre loved 2016 eco for just over $20k😊

    • @brian5o
      @brian5o 5 лет назад +1

The car is pretty ridiculously priced, I agree but the sad thing is Ford will not have any problem selling them at that price because they are really cool cars, definitely the best incarnation of Ford's special Bullitt Mustang compared to the 2001 and 2008 by a mile.
These are toys for people with money or people willing to overextend their debt to own one. Unfortunately, I don't fall into either of those categories.
Ford built a one-off Kona Blue Bullitt for charity, I did buy several raffle tickets to to try to win it but no such luck, unfortunately. I am going to keep an eye open for these on the used market but I have a feeling, even used there will be a hefty premium to buy one. A run-of-the-mill GT can be had particularly used for significantly less than a Bullitt, they are plentiful and can usually be had for the low $30s with very low mileage. It is getting harder and harder to find one with a proper manual transmission which makes me nervous though. Ford had better not drop the manual because I absolutely refuse to own a Mustang with an automatic transmission.
I remember looking at a new 2001 Bullitt when they first came out at the dealership. If I remember correctly, it had a sticker price of just under $30,000. I thought that was a crazy price for a Mustang back then, even a Bullitt. Boy how times have changed....

I know this is 5 years old, but having owned a similar power Mustang (14 GTCS retuned to boss 305 specs) we bought brand new, its hard to appreciate how much stupid fun one of these can be as a daily driver. I don't romp on mine much but if you turn off the electronic protection, you can really get nuts quickly. I found I would skid it sideways with too much power early on and had to learn how to feather the power and also how to brake into the corners to keep from sliding the front or spinning out the rear. Put the electronics back on and its a much more sane car but still a bunch of fun. Sarah, while you still can, go back and re-review the big modern V8 beasts like Mustang, Camaro, Corvette and the like. I suspect their time is limited which is why I bought two GTCS's. A convertible and coupe so we have the best of both worlds in big V8 power with the 305 tune and upgrades.

Bullitt is a 1968 American action thriller[3] film directed by Peter Yates and produced by Philip D'Antoni. The picture stars Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughn, and Jacqueline Bisset.[4] The screenplay by Alan R. Trustman and Harry Kleiner was based on the 1963 novel, Mute Witness,[5][6][7][8] by Robert L. Fish, writing under the pseudonym Robert L. Pike.[9][10] Lalo Schifrin wrote the original jazz-inspired score, arranged for brass and percussion. Robert Duvall has a small role as a cab driver who provides information to McQueen.

A refreshing review! About time someone didn’t fanboy a Bullitt (not that I’m not a fan, just realistic about what they are). I own a 2018 Mustang ecoboost, and love how torque builds quite rapidly. No tune yet, just a custom catback that sounds way better than stock without being obnoxious. I know the manufacturers tell us the future is four or six cylinder cars, or god forbid, electrics, but that sound out of the tailpipes of that Stang is just too good to ever let get away. My number one gripe about the 2019 Ford Raptor...no V8.
