Long fields of grass and dense forest just doesn't lend itself well to Sonic. So yeah, here is at least one person who does love these styles of games also feeling uncertain about Frontiers.
My open world Sonic game, might not be the best idea, but find Eggman land that was rebuilt during Forces, you now are in a GTA style city with actions that can give you wanted level, you can do small tasks and missions to destroy this new Eggman land, you could bring back the ocs as workers and slaves, the goal being to free them, but that attracts badnicks and gives you wanted level.
SUPER EMERALDS FOR F***ING- WHY IS THIS EVEN A THEORY!?!?! (It's Literally Bigger The Chaos Emeralds And Smaller Then The Master Emerald, PLUS THE SUPER EMERALD ARE INBETWEEN THE SIZE OF BOTH F***!!!)
The requisite that makes good open worlds is the level design, Take for example "Super Mario Oddysey". That games is made and crafted with LOVE for the character. And while you have some places where you can mess around, it's really fun just to control Mario there. I do hope Frontiers do well. I want to believe that Sonic Team can do it right. But as you've said it: Until more gameplay is revealed, I'm not really interested that much.
I agree with you about the RPG thing, you're not alone in your opinion, I hate games where you have to talk to townspeople and gather clues to unlock this or that, might aswell play Fable or Skyrim and Sonic Adventure 2 was a better game than the first Sonic Adventure. I liked how Sonic Adventure 2 you went straight into the action with each character and the cut scenes in between gameplay explained the story advancements, however I hated Sonic Heroes approach on the action how we were forced to constantly control all three characters in what felt like a Mega-CD FMV game where every run, jump, bash and flight had to be done in a sequence of button mashing to make it through the level or you were forced to repeat the whole process over and over. Also this is just a personal nitpick of mine not aimed at anybody: why is Eggman/Robotnik the only Sonic villain in basically every Sonic game since the original? Why isn't there ever any other evil humans or monsters trying to stop Sonic from succeeding in a Sonic game? I just feel the Eggman thing in every game is getting boring now, I can't help but compare it to something like the old Captain Planet cartoons where the Planeteers had several enemies trying to stop them at different times in different episodes.

I like Open World, I just don't feel like it would fit with Sonic's purpose. He runs fast through set stages (semilinear or otherwise) in order to progress to the next stage. The problem with Sonic Frontiers is that it's probably gonna be fully Open World, similar to BOTW. Maybe if there was a huge gigantic hub world to run around in and find stages to play and people to talk to and a few """side quests""" taking place in said hub world, that would be cool and a bit similar to Unleashed (one of my personal favorite Sonic games) but it seems to me like there aren't going to be any stages at all (well, rather, one single stage that takes place throughout the entirety of the game).another problem is that they're probably going to go into development hell again like they did with Forces because they're trying to get the game out by a set deadline which, mind you, is a lot closer than you think considering how long game development takes. Maybe that's why they've been silent on games for as long as they did, so that they didn't have to worry about deadlines and things so that they could take their time like a normal dev should.

Da fuq, why you saying Eggman a lot!? I had always assumed you were British, and at your age it should most definitely be ingrained in your brain as ROBOTNIK
I have to disagree, the first movie was a soulless ripoff of hundreds of children's movies and the sequel seems to be copying the superhero formula down to its bare essentials. Zero passion, zero heart, zero effort, and were the designs in the original not changed people would despise the movie for all of its aspects, which is pretty apparent considering the overall reaction to the initial trailer. Lines do not suddenly become good after a character starts looking different. And no, I don't really consider visual references heart or effort, Sonic isn't Peter Rabbit, Sonic Isn't Spiderman, Sonic is... well, Sonic. I'd like a Sonic movie, not a copy of the other 2 with all the fun parts surgically removed.
In an ideal movie, I'd much rather a Sonic movie with full-out CGI in the same style as Sonic unleashed. But we never got that. The first movie I had real low expectations but it beat them. Then this movie, I made my expectations higher but still in check. And it met it so, meh, I'll be happy with what we get.
@@redhotsonic Yeah I'm glad that other people are enjoying it, I just had to say my peace lol I mostly said what I said because I see the potential in a Sonic movie that's a lot more Sonic and a lot less kidsperhero. I don't mind it being live action, the most memorable Sonic games had humans in it (for better or worse), I just wish it was less archetypal.
I agree with this comment wholeheartedly. The Sonic movie was a mistake and I wish they would go back to making games like sa1, or sa2. Not even talking specifically about the gameplay, I just miss there being a coherent plotline, with good characterization. Even 06 got the characterization down.
@@guy-dev There is an interesting conversation to be had about Sonic an his characterization, since there have been many different iterations of it over the years. Some people might use that to justify his characterization in the movies, but the difference there is that no matter how Sonic acted in the other games, he did not act like that exclusively in an attempt to copy other characters. Hell, Sonic STARTED an archetype, I don't expect a super in-depth and entirely original character, but I do expect some effort put into him.
@@Peasham yeah, I agree. I think Sonic's (as well as all other characters) characterization was best in the so-called "Dark Age" of Sonic. Da fuq, why you saying Eggman a lot!? I had always assumed you were British, and at your age it should most definitely be ingrained in your brain as ROBOTNIK
+10000 for your views on RPG styled games, couldn't agree more...
@@redhotsonic Yeah I'm glad that other people are enjoying it, I just had to say my peace lol
I mostly said what I said because I see the potential in a Sonic movie that's a lot more Sonic and a lot less kidsperhero.
Post colors, he just feels like a saturday morning cartoon protagonist (not to mention that his character was better even when he WAS a saturday morning cartoon protagonist)
