  • Back during the Game Boy Color days, Nintendo decided to fund a series of games based on Hamtaro. Across multiple handhelds and genres, this little hamster went on many adventures EXCLUSIVE to Nintendo consoles! Interesting information, for sure, but are the games actually fun?

So fun fact: the first Hamtaro game isn't really a pet simulator game. It's actually a daily fortune teller game. That's why Hamtaro asks for things like your birthday and blood type. Hamtaro walking around his cage and eating is just something for you to look at while the game's internal clock ticks down to the next time you can get your fortune told.
Another fun fact: the lead designer for that game was SO inspired by it that he created the Tomodachi Life series. No this is not a joke.

No joke: Hamtaro Ham Ham Heartbreak was one of my absolute favorite games for the GBA. My dad bought it for me for my 12th birthday. I legit got stuck for the longest time in the manor and didn't come back to it until I was in high school.

OMG same! I actually ended up getting stuck in the Manor more than once.
I stumbled upon the solution to the place in the Manor I had gotten stuck at, but then I had to replay the game from the start not long after (due to save data getting deleted by a family friend's kid), during which I got stuck at the same part for years without being able to remember how I solved it...
I played that game SO much, and always ended up going back to it if I didn't know what to play on GBA. I have so many fond memories of everything in that game except for the last Hula Dance contest; that last routine was so ridiculously specific and I only beat it years later because I found the solution on the internet somewhere lol

Ham-Ham Heartbreak is literally my favorite game in the series. That sprite work alone is phenomenal but I really loved the story, the interactivity, the locations. For kids? Sure, but still. It might've been my first experience with anime.
19:33 Ah, you see, that's because that game was designed for the artstyle of a Japan-only reboot of sorts, or perhaps a sequel, _Tottoko Hamutaro Hai,_ which was a collection of 3D animated shorts, which made the Ham-Hams shaped like peanuts for some reason.

I didn't have any home media of the anime, just a book and a polly pocket like toy of Hamtaro, and those were the only two items I had to prove that Hamtaro wasn't just a thing that I had made up.
