On the nose of Dettling Single Barrel Cask Strength Straight Bourbon has all those classic bourbon notes of cherry, caramel and vanilla but a surprising hint of lemongrass and dustiness like fresh cut wood.
On the palette, this is like drinking a boozy Starbucks caramel macchiato and we’re not mad about it. The Kentucky hug is pronounced but not as hot as you would think with a 54.7% proof with lingering tannins on the tongue.

I sampled a Dettling store pick a few months ago. The coffee note was too forward. I'm not a coffee drinker, so it threw me off. I did order a bottle from a barrel pick through a bourbon club for a great cause. Hopefully, it makes me a convert🥃
The coffee note can definitely be polarizing if you're not a big fan of the taste. Glad to see you're not willing to let your first experience be the only one! It can be really challenging for some people to get past that first impression.
