This is, hands down, the most educational and interesting video on whiskey/bourbon I've ever watched. Not only is this man a genius, but the videography and storytelling is incredible. Thanks TJ.
A master distiller in the Deep South drinking a bunch of different bourbon cask tastings and then driving off to fight a mobile home fire is the most American thing ever and I’m here for it.
He is such a nice guy! Talked with him for quite some time at spillway and he let me have his last bottle of the Pick at the spillway event. I want to do whatever possible to help him out because he goes above and beyond for what a distillery does.
This is the best Brewzle video ive seen. I have always wondered why Dettling is under the radar. Its absolutely amazing. Im also in Mobile, Alabama and know Atmore very well as its only 45 mins from me. This man is quite obviously very intelligent and well spoken which gives me even higher hopes for the Dettling future. And im extremely excited to experience it and proud of them for representing our great state. Im on my 3rd bottle of tge cask strength and i have one orange label BiB. Its very rare i buy the same botlle 3 times and once this one is gone, ill be buying a 4th. Thats alot of repeats for someone, as myself, that has a 200+ bottle whiskey collection. I cant say enough about Dettling. Theyre a sleeping giant and i selfishly hope it stays that way bc thats more for me and less for the A-hole hoarders and secondary flippers that buy up all the allocated/unicorns and leave nothing for the rest of us just so they can make a dollar or add it to the multiple bottles they already have. I see people with dozens of unopened EHT, Stagg, etc and all they do is jack the price or let it collect dust. Anyways, forgive my salty rant. 😂 Try Dettling CS if u havent already! Cheers!
@pammullin2160 the Cask Strength is my favorite. It's the dark brown label but the Bottled in Bond is alot lighter with more fruity notes and thats the red/Orange label. The only bad one is the clear whiskey they make and I've never had the green label one.
Wow, that was awesome . I love this hobby. Learned a lot and I'm gonna start looking for a bottle of this man's liquor and taste it myself, my mouth is salivating after watching this video . Thanks for the content, and you were looking a little pie eyed at the end lol .
A quick check shows this man has a finance degree from Auburn School of Business. I LOVE project management and Bourbon.... This is a great video to enjoy and learn both.
My wife got me a Dettling single barrel bottled in bond for Christmas. It’s a very good bottle and has a different flavor and color than anything else in my collection.
My best friend processes game. He does everything the old fashioned way (cast iron kettles, old fashioned smokehouse, etc..). He refuses to expand his cooler capacity because he wants to do everything his way, and knows if he grows he's going to have to change his product. It can take up to 4 days depending on the weather to make some of our products, and he doesn't offer some products that only he and I and some of our close friends get because they are so time consuming he can't get the money for his time from the product. There's something to be said for resisting growth. He's doing this because he wants to, not because he has to.
Such a genuine guy, and a genius at his craft. Makes me proud to say we share the same hometown and being able to see how he runs his outfit makes it all the better.
This is the best tour/tasting video I've ever seen. This gentleman's attention to detail and knowledge is amazing. If i ever see a bottle of his whisky I'll definitely be buying it
Really cool place. I deliver the propane every 2 weeks that they use at the distillery. Always good people and I enjoy watching the process week to week.
He's working on distribution in Texas right now but I'm not sure how long before he will get them in stores. We are getting them to the store we work with in Austin so we can ship them online.
Great vid and an absolute craftsman in his own right doing what he obviously loves. I loved seeing how his eyes lit up when he was showing the old bourbon (unpalatable) barrel and he turned and noticed some barrels to upper left and his smile and his face lit up.showed he's livin the dream all in one moment. Awesome
Seeing y’all taste barrels while Seth is kicking back in an HK hoodie immediately makes me want to hunt for his bourbon. I really appreciate the knowledge of bourbon and southern hospitality that he displayed in this video it was amazing!
My buddy turned me on to Dettling a while back, and we are able to get it most places in Maryland. After watching this video, I really appreciate it just that much more, and will have to have a pour when I get home. Fantastic !!
I was afraid of ryes for a while because the ones I tried had a bitter harshness I thought was the "rye spice". After trying more ryes, I realized that harshness was just bad whiskey and not the spiciness of rye lol
It's so good to see someone who comes off as a down to earth guy who is just passionate about making whisky. No high end operations, just attention to detail. I personally would love to open my own distillery and this shows its obtainable. Good stuff Brewzle, one of my favourite videos. All the best Seth! I hope to try some of your whisky one day if it comes to Australia!
Man I don't even drink whiskey but I want a bottle from this man. You can tell he enjoys making high quality product and put alot of time and energy making it
Wow!! Very informative. His attention to detail is top notch. Very cool to see/hear a mad scientist speak about his creations with such love and passion. It seems like a family affair, wifey has her own mash bill in production, the son is pulling samples from barrels, and I bet he is working on his own mash bill. Definitely adding them to my list to search for. Well done!
This is so cool, makes me so excited to get into distilling my own whiskey (distiller should be here in two weeks) But did anyone else notice at the end of the video it looks like brewzle took that glass?
I took sine samples of the barrels, we left the glasses. We were on our way to sample more whiskey when he had to go fight the fire so we are toting glasses but we left them.
I’d love to sit down with this guy and pick his brain on what he does. Such a methodical approach to everything and nothing is just by chance. I wish I lived in the area to get a bottle of this. 😢 Not to mention he looks like Ragnar Lothbrook from Vikings. 😂
I feel like this is the future of bourbon. Obviously the big ones will always be around, but it’s getting boring drinking the same pours on the market. I’m curious how much a barrel/bottle is considering he only sells 50-60/yr and that sustains the operation
When I was in my 20’s I thought if I was going out I had to have a jacket and coke or something like that… no clue why though. I’ve tried doing straight whiskey and did have a couple really nice drinks but I never got very used to it. I also had access to very powerful moonshine and saw a trend of special blends like apple pie, banana(which taste like a banana flavored popsicle) and just about every fruit flavor that people would add. I never saw them mixed with real fruit grown locally. WV isn’t the best place to produce white lightning but man was it strong! I’ve thought about trying to make my own, even down to using staves or smaller barrels to age it in just to say I did, I’d prefer to enjoy the taste of it better before that. It’s truly amazing to see the knowledge he has of the entire process. Maybe one day I can get a bottle of his and his wife’s favorite creations.
I just got my hands on my first bottle of eagle rare 🙌 honestly i wouldnt be on this adventure without the help of this channel or TJ so thank you guys!
Instead of the background music throughout, maybe add small narrated sections during the factory tour and put the music over those parts to break the video up, but when they’re talking maybe cut the music out or make it way lower, was hard to hear at times and the repetitive guitar riff killed me 😂 great video tho thanks!
Consumer wise there is nothing I like about alcohol, but production wise I find the art and craft fascinating. Edit: I do actually like the smell of some especially old whiskey barrels.
26:20 - I am drawn to Rye on the label... Some of my favourite Gin is made with a 100% rye base spirit, same with my favourite grain based Vodka 100% rye.
My wife and I both said this guy looks just like Travis Fimmel, the guy who played Ragnar in Vikings!! We look forward to picking up some Dettling on our way through Kentucky. Sadly Virginia doesn't sell it.
Pretty sure I have a new man crush, what a red blooded American, plus we share the same name, what a guy. Great video TJ that was incredibly educational.
You guys should try to be in Texas in a couple of weeks to catch the total eclipse and sample Texas Whiskey -Balcones and others that would be extra cool
In my opinion this video is in the top five of all of them I've seen from your channel. Hats off to this family's operation. I'm hoping one day when my daughters are old enough that I can do something similar. I haven't gone legal myself but on a state level it's legal in Maine. I can't go into specifics because of an NDA I signed recently. Even saying this is very questionable but... Anyways I started the beginning of the casting process for a popular TV show on the discovery channel.😉😉 I'm hoping that prospect goes through, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it if not. I'm sure it would kick my life in a different direction. Hopefully in a positive direction. At the end of the day, I like the direction my life is already in. I can't deviate from the original family plan. Even if it involves a five or six figure contract. Until the next one. Cheers Mate 💪🍻
I’ve been getting into distilling since last year. I’ve been trying to get out to all of the whiskey distilleries in DFW and some of the bigger brands in Texas. 1835 near McKinney TX is a small distillery that y’all need to look out for. They have a great 4 grain bourbon. I’m excited to see what they will do.

This mans attention to detail and care in his product is unmatched. I cant imagine how good his whiskey must be.
also we finally know what the dude who played ragnar in vikings did after the show.
This is, hands down, the most educational and interesting video on whiskey/bourbon I've ever watched. Not only is this man a genius, but the videography and storytelling is incredible. Thanks TJ.
The stories these 2 must have
I was thinking the same thing
The more I listen to this guy the more I realize he is no joke. Loved this.
A master distiller in the Deep South drinking a bunch of different bourbon cask tastings and then driving off to fight a mobile home fire is the most American thing ever and I’m here for it.
That's how we roll in Alabama
Only thing missing was his sister on his side.
@@StarvieCarvie😂
A man wearing a Heckler and Koch hoodie is a man I want to purchase whiskey from.
Amen
He's my uncle. Can attest to his love for H&K 😆
Seth Dettling is an example of what a person can achieve when they are passionate about something. Fantastic!
He is such a nice guy! Talked with him for quite some time at spillway and he let me have his last bottle of the Pick at the spillway event. I want to do whatever possible to help him out because he goes above and beyond for what a distillery does.

I don't like a strong oak finish, which bottle of Dettling should I try
@pammullin2160 the Cask Strength is my favorite. It's the dark brown label but the Bottled in Bond is alot lighter with more fruity notes and thats the red/Orange label. The only bad one is the clear whiskey they make and I've never had the green label one.

Thanks for the content, and you were looking a little pie eyed at the end lol .
This man can really talk. Doesn't stutter, stumble, or crutch, just pure information in a smooth southern drawl. I loved every second of it
Wow the stereotypes for Alabama lol
A quick check shows this man has a finance degree from Auburn School of Business. I LOVE project management and Bourbon.... This is a great video to enjoy and learn both.
This is probably the best bourbon video I have literally watched to this day. Absolutely loved this!
One of the coolest picks I've watched and his operational efficiency is top notch. Well done to the both of you.
My wife got me a Dettling single barrel bottled in bond for Christmas. It’s a very good bottle and has a different flavor and color than anything else in my collection.
Seth is the kind of guy that I could hang around every single day and never get tired of his company.
My best friend processes game. He does everything the old fashioned way (cast iron kettles, old fashioned smokehouse, etc..). Found some Dettling in KY and immediately picked it up after watching the video. Orange label, BiB. Incredible pour.
Such a genuine guy, and a genius at his craft. Makes me proud to say we share the same hometown and being able to see how he runs his outfit makes it all the better.
"This life" does not get better than: Sip'en good whiskey on the front porch with friends. This video made my week, vicariously. Thanks.
I’d love to work for that man. Not so much the hours, but he cares so much, and he’s also aware that people gotta chill
Just became a distiller about a month ago I have to say I love this guys process!
Drinking on a Dettling store pick from High Cotton in Oxford, MS. I bought the bottle then saw the video come out! Very good stuff!
Seth Dettling is a master. I really enjoyed this video. Wish it went on longer
Coolest distillery you have went to and probably coolest distiller. Just a regular Joe and his passion for his bourbon.
You can tell he's incredibly smart and I can only imagine how good his final products taste after all the thought he puts into the process.
5 minutes in and I’m ready to buy a bottle or two. I doubt it’s anything I’ll find in Texas but I’m gonna try.
He's working on distribution in Texas right now but I'm not sure how long before he will get them in stores. We are getting them to the store we work with in Austin so we can ship them online.
@@Brewzle I’m pretty sure I frequent the store you work with in Austin. Same store where you got the Utopia? I’ll talk with him, I like that dude.
love how Brewzle brings levity to all his videos.

When the Brewzle Whiskey bar opens I will make the trip for sure. 👍
Seeing y’all taste barrels while Seth is kicking back in an HK hoodie immediately makes me want to hunt for his bourbon. I really appreciate the knowledge of bourbon and southern hospitality that he displayed in this video it was amazing!
I’m 50 minutes from atmore down in Baldwin county, just started my burbon journey and am definitely gonna keep an eye out for dettling in the stores
Really interesting operation he's got going on. Seems like he knows what he's doing.
This was like a visit to a Unicorn Farm that can only be visited on a Tuesday, on February 29th. I wish this brand had wider release.
this guy is a a whiskey genius. Give me his Rye NOW!!!
I don't drink, but this was still incredibly interesting to me. Such a cool process and his passion is contagious

I don’t drink. But I love watching you and learning and seeing your excitement in these videos. Keep it going
Such an authentic guy -- Dettling's a name I'm gonna keep track of, for sure!
Got to meet both TJ and Seth Dettling at the Spillway Big Bourbon Block Party! Great, knowledgeable people!

The SiB CS is really good. One of my top 5! Dettling is a genius! Spiral cutting adds a huge amount of extra surface area in the barrel!
Stay small and be the best! It's the enthusiam, knolwedge and attentuon to detail that people love. Great work, wishing you a fortuitous future 🎉

I'm in Baldwin county....on the coast. Dettling is really good. Brown label 120p is really good.
It's also not cheap....which makes sense now that I see the attn to detail
Love the video, TJ! Love the passion and craft that Seth brings to his whiskey. Good on you to highlight this brand.

Smart man right there! Loves his job, and isn’t stressed to the heavens!
Lived in Raben Alabama 67 years ago was a town in a dry county. All the alcohol was across the state line between Atmore and Florida.

I might have learned more from this video than any other bourbon video I've watched. I wish I could like it twice.
I live in Perdido not far from there surprised to see he’s doing a video so close to my home
I have wanted a bottle of their boubon for years . This is awesome. Thank you guys .
I do not drink alcohol, yet damn this is interesting craft. Anyone who is passionate of their craft deserves respect.
Awesome video. Love the tasting with the owner on the porch, wearing an H&K hoodie.

I’m enjoying this episode so much!
wow... super clean and well organized process. that black shirt is cut nicely as well.
Popcorn would have loved to have had a legal business for his shine. RIP Popcorn he was the master!

Rare breed rye is amazing. Still hunting a Jack Daniels barrel strength rye.
Shouldn’t be too hard to find soon. It’s stupid good
That was an excellent video…i find people like him so inspiring ,and love their passion for their journey…Bravo!
Dettling is a genius!
What kind of Glens are they using? Fancier and curvier?
The BEST whiskey/bourbon video I have seen yet. I would love to be able to taste some of those barrels.
Like every day back at the store! 😂
Hopefully we can get some Dettling in Socal, hi time wine would be a great place to sell it.
Very nice. This dude is a distilling genius. The best rye is 60% R, 28% C and 12% M
This guy reminds me of the old stories of pappy van winkle in the 60s.
"how old's this one?" - "Its four years old in October." hahahaah knows all his barrels like family birthdays. what a cool video. Fella knows his whiskey. what a set up. amazing
Awesome video. I was in Atmore about 20 years ago getting loads of cedar lumber from a mill nearby.
