- According to Chinese government statistics and World Bank data, since the beginning of the reform and opening-up policy, especially since 2012, China has lifted more than 700 million people out of poverty.
I am one of those people. In this video, I will talk about my extreme poverty and terrible living conditions during my childhood. I personally witnessed all these changes and maintained a positive attitude towards life and learning despite the harsh environment. Riding the wave of the times, I was able to change my life.
By the way, I'm a self-English learner, I have been learning this language all by myself, I created this channel primarily to practice my English writing and speaking skills, if I made any mistake, please correct me I'm really appreciat your help.

I work at an American university. Your English is better than that of many of our students. Your accent is easier for me to understand than some regional American, U.K., and Australian native English speakers’ accents.
Fei you are amazing and thanks for sharing your story with us. China is really a rags to riches success story and the chinese people deserve all praise and appreciation for all they have achieved. China is in a difficult situation right now, but nothing compared to how bad things were 30-40 years ago. China will get out of this difgicult time and lead again.

Your English vocabulary is very good. You must read a lot of English books. For the word "Clothes", pronounce it the same way as "Close" (like, close the door). I grew up in the US in the 60s and we were poor. Not as poor as your village but, I was the poorest one in my class in elementary school. I can relate to the food, clothes and hygiene stories. Comfortably retired now because I learned not to waste. People waste a lot in the US. Good luck with your channel.

Clothes: cloh-thz. It's a hard word to pronounce for non native speaker.

Very good English with some difficult words. Listen to some pronunciations of "clothes", "various" again and try that. Your story reminds of how I grew up in south Africa, past down clothes that had repairs and didn't fit, no shoes , cracked skin on hands and feet from cold, worms and lice, we played in trees and with mud and sticks. we were happy as we didn't know better till later when image mattered.

I have been to South Africa before. it's a beautiful country, But I think there's a big gap between rich and poor. we have the problem now too. but back then, it was a different situation, everyone was poor in the country.
